Her daughter stated that, “She always saw that we attended Sunday school and church as a family and raised us in a Christian atmosphere. She always took part in programs, more especially civic activities that might be going on at that time. At age 17, she took the responsibility in helping raise her baby sister. Mon also helped dad start their own business in1948 and worked by his side every day until they retired in1989. She worked and still saw to it that we got every opportunity there was to reach our fullest potential, whether it be sports, dancing, schooling or other activities. I always said that when I grew up if I could be just half the woman my mother is I would be happy. I don’t think there is another one quite like her, at least not in my book. She always had time for us no matter how busy she was. She listened as well as talked. She praised as well as criticized. She rewarded as well as punished. She taught us as well as learned from us. She was firm but gave us room to grow. But most of all, she loved us, and isn’t that what mothers are all about?”
