Leon Williams Sr.

Leon Williams Sr., 78, of Houston, Texas, died there June 28, 2009, at Houston Hospice Care Center, after a lengthy illness.

Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Centreville, with Dr. M.D. Smith officiating. Burial will be in the church Cemetery, with Craft Funeral Home in McComb in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Williams was born Aug. 30, 1930, in Gloster, to Walter and Helen Newton Williams.

He was a retired construction worker.

Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen Williams; and a son.
Survivors include three daughters, Debra Celestine and Tammy Parker, both of Houston, and Leanna Williams of Flint, Mich.; two sons, Charles and Wayne Williams, both of Houston; and several grandchildren.

Christopher Jackson
Christopher C. Jackson, 79, of Chicago, died July 4, 2009, at a hospital there, after a brief illness.

Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Craft Funeral Home in McComb. Services are 1 p.m. Friday at Tickfaw Baptist Church in Amite County, with the Rev. Emanuel Powell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Jackson was born Dec. 28, 1929, in Liberty, to Martin Luther and Emma Anderson Jackson.

He was retired from the railroad.

Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and six brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey Ginn Jackson of Chicago; two daughters, Jennifer Jackson of Chicago and Gina McNeil of Indianapolis; a son, Chris Andre Jackson of Coon Rapid, Minn.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Christine and Louis Williams of Magnolia and Johnnie and Emanuel Powell of Liberty; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Frances H. Orso

Frances H. Orso, a longtime resident of Crosby, died July 7, 2009, at McComb Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in McComb.
Arrangements are incomplete at Brown Funeral Home in Gloster.

Lawrence Dale Hunt
Lawrence Dale Hunt, 45, of Gloster, died July 7, 2009, at his father’s house in Gloster.

Arrangements are incomplete with Anderson Funeral Home in Gloster in charge.

Dorothy O. Ford

Dorothy O’Quin Parsons Ford, 83, of Magnolia, died there July 20, 2009, at Beacham Memorial Hospital.

Visitation is 5 to 9 tonight at East Union Baptist Church in Magnolia, then 9 a.m. Wednesday until services at 11 a.m. The Rev. Emmon White, the Rev. Frank Smith and Bro. Ray Bowlin will officiate. Burial will be in East Union Cemetery, with Jones Family Funeral Services directing.

Mrs. Ford was born Jan. 31, 1926, in Magnolia, to Emmett and Ethel Lewis O’Quin.
Mrs. Ford was a retired registered nurse, having served 50 years in the medical field. She was a member of East Union Baptist Church and the XYZ Club, where she served the Lord faithfully for many years until her health failed.

Her family said, “She was a wonderful mother and nurse who kept her family together and had a wonderful sense of humor. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.”

Mrs. Ford was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cecil P. Parsons; and three brothers, Aaron, Everett and Jamie O’Quin.

Survivors include her husband, Delma Ford of Magnolia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Frank Cecil and Julie Parsons of Summit, and Carl Lewis and Sherrie Parsons of Jayess; a sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Robert Kuhn of Byram; two grandchildren, Alex Parsons and wife Melissa, and Nita Parsons; two great-grandchildren, Halle C. Parsons and Ashton D. Parsons; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special caregiver, Marcia Sumerall.
Pallbearers will be Billy Morgan, Johnny Morgan, Paul Kuhn, Brian Kuhn, Alex Parsons, James Hucabee and Wayne Cooksey.

Honorary pallbearers will be her East Union Baptist Church Sunday school class, with C.W. McKee and Sammy Bozeman.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the East Union Baptist Church general fund or the East Union Cemetery Association.

Horace Mark Cole

Horace Mark Cole, 84, of Clinton, La., died July 19, 2009, at his home.

Visitation is 5 to 7 tonight at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton, then 9 a.m. Wednesday until services there at 10 a.m. Dr. Greg Belser of Morrison Heights Baptist Church will officiate. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Reeves Family Cemetery in Pike County, with the Rev. Tommy Shumate officiating.

Mr. Cole was born April 6, 1925, in McComb, and was the fifth child of John Walter and Emma Edith Page Cole.

In 1943, he graduated from McComb High School, where he excelled on the debate team. He also achieved the Eagle Scout designation.

After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served three years as a pharmacist’s mate during World War II.

Following his military service, he began a 39-year career with Mississippi Power & Light Co., where he retired as the first safety director. Until recently, he enjoyed operating his own small electrical business.

As a faithful member of Baptist churches in McComb, Greenville, Natchez and Clinton, he taught junior high boys in Sunday school for 25 years and participated in the choir.

His many pleasures were fishing, spending time with friends, gardening and inventing unique items. He enjoyed 63 years with Ina, the love of his life.

Mr. Cole was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Benjamin, Johnnie and Robert Cole; and a sister, Doris Cole Newton.

Survivors include his devoted wife, Ina Faye Cothern Cole; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Cole Ogden and Page of Natchez and Edith Cole Breithaupt and Charlie of Petal; granddaughters, Vanessa O. Graham, Valerie O. Seal, Natalie Breithaupt and Leigh Breithaupt; a grandson, Eric Breithaupt; and three great-grandchildren, Hayden Page Seal, Olivia Graham and Bennett Graham.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Morrison Heights Baptist Church or to a charity of choice.

Bennie G. Simmons

Bennie Gaylen Simmons, 68, of Line Creek, La., died July 18, 2009, at Ochsner Hospital-Elmwood in Harahan, La.

Visitation is 6 to 9 tonight at Line Creek Baptist Church in Kentwood, La., then 8 a.m. Wednesday until services there at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Merlin McCon and the Rev. Ken Irvin officiating. Burial will be in Line Creek Cemetery. McKneely & Vaughn Funeral Home of Amite, La., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Simmons was born Feb. 1, 1941, in Line Creek to Iley W. and Bennie Mae Swearingen Simmons.

Mr. Simmons, a loving father, grandfather and friend, retired from Tangipahoa Parish as road superintendent after 23 years. He was a member of Springview Country Club and had been a dairy farmer all his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joyce Yvonne Simmons.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Bennie Scott and Debbie Simmons and William Brent and Beth Simmons, all of Kentwood; a brother and sister-in-law, I.W. Simmons Jr. and Peggy of Kentwood; a special friend and fianceé, Mary Wilkinson of Loranger, La.; seven grandchildren, Christie Taylor and husband David, Crystal Morgan and husband Heath, Renee’ Simmons, Laken Simmons, Alex Leon Simmons, Steven Scott Simmons and Koley Scott Simmons; four great-grandchildren, Emilee Taylor, Lauren Taylor, Taylor Morgan and Nicholis Scott Major Simmons; three nephews, I.W. Simmons III, H. Wayne Simmons and wife Lisa, and Jeffrey Wendell Simmons and wife Ginger; great-nephews, Kevin Simmons and Jeff Simmons; two great-nieces, Kristin Simmons and Chelsea Simmons; two step-children, Julie Peek and husband Brandon and Beth Ensign and husband Edwin, all of Loranger; and four step-grandchildren, Jacie Stogner, John Stogner, Eddie Ensign and Maddie Ensign.

Pallbearers will be David Taylor, Heath Morgan, Wesley Travis, Alex Simmons, Steven Simmons, Koley Simmons, Kynan Carlin, Nelson Lea, Pierce Miller, Mason Simmons, Sam L. Cutrer, H. Wayne Simmons, Wendell Simmons and Wilkie Simmons.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Line Creek Baptist Church, 78659 Highway 1053, Kentwood, LA 70444.

Kent M. Cantrell

Kent Mitchell Cantrell, 50, died July 17, 2009, in Collinsville, Okla.

Visitation is 4:30 p.m. today at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb until services there at 6 p.m. The Rev. Karen Hayden will officiate. Burial will be Wednesday in Alexander City Cemetery in Alexander City, Ala.

Mr. Cantrell was born April 17, 1959, in Marks. He was the son of Anne Thomas Cantrell of McComb and the late Bert Cantrell.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Sulfur, La. Mr. Cantrell earned his Eagle Scout rank with Troop No. 121.

Survivors include his mother; a son and daughter-in-law, Kyle Mitchell Cantrell and April of Prairieville, La.; a daughter, Kristen Cantrell Robichaux and husband Schaffer of Mary Estes, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Danyail Rush of Collinsville; a sister, Lynn Cantrell Guerrant and husband Steven of Durhan, N.C.; a grandson, Gabriel Mitchell Cantrell; a nephew, Brian Halaway Murray of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and a niece, Emilie Guerrant Lamb and husband Brian of Durham.

Memorials may be sent to the McComb Interdenominational Care Association (M.I.C.A.), 126 Fifth St. N., McComb, MS 39648.

William Levi Langford

William Levi Langford, 87, a resident of Bedford Care Center in Hattiesburg, died July 18, 2009, at Forest General Hospital in Hattiesburg.

Services were 2 p.m. today at Wilson Funeral Home in Monticello. Burial was in Roberts Memorial Cemetery in Jayess.

Mr. Langford was born March 19, 1922, in Yazoo City to Robert Lee and Sara Estelle Taylor Langford.

He was a retired distributor for Cam and Rose Dog Food and was a member of Gum Pond Baptist Church in Pearl River County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. He lived in Jayess for 31 years and moved to Pearl River County 13 years ago.

Mr. Langford was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Bonnie Jean Langford; and numerous brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Cole Langford of Lumberton; a son, Barry E. Langford of Tupelo; a stepson, Steve Backstrom of Lumberton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
