T.A. Jackson Jr.

T.A. Jackson Jr., 84, a lifelong resident of Coles, died July 20, 2009, at Field Memorial Community Hospital in Centreville.

Visitation is 5 to 8 tonight at Brown Funeral Home in Gloster. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Reggie Forman, the Rev. Kent Campbell, the Rev. Cade Campbell and the Rev. Max Foreman officiating. Burial will be in Roseland Cemetery in Gloster.

Mr. Jackson was born Dec. 24, 1924, to T.A. Jackson Sr. and Enna Jackson.

He was a graduate of Crosby High School, was a longtime insurance salesman and a man who truly loved his church and family. He was a member and trustee of Union Church. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt, fish and play golf.

Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Martelle Taylor.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Pat Havard Jackson of Coles; two sons and a daughter-in-law, T.A. Jackson III of Coles and Kenny and Jenny Jackson of Centreville; a daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Kent Campbell of Vicksburg; three grandchildren, Leslie Shultz and husband Chris of Morganton, N.C., Cade Campbell and his fianceé Amy Binns of Vicksburg and Jenae Jackson of Mobile; two great-grandchildren, Peyton and Dawson Schultz of Morganton; two sisters, Yvonne Lane of Jackson and Kathleen Livingston of Baton Rouge; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be his nephews, W.R. Taylor Jr., Robert Taylor and Marty Taylor; and Max Foreman, Brett Forman and Terry Short.

Opal W. McCullough

Opal Wilson Yeaman McCullough, 85, died July 20, 2009, at her home in Amite County, surrounded by friends and family.

Visitation is 9 a.m. Thursday at the Episcopal Church of the Mediator in McComb followed by services there at 11 a.m. The Rev. Melanie Lemburg will officiate. Burial will be in Whittington Cemetery in Amite County under the direction of Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb.

Mrs. McCullough was born Feb. 2, 1924, in Danville, Va., to James Fletcher Yeaman and Ethel Lacey Pruitt Yeaman.
Mrs. McCullough was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles McCullough; four brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Eddie Conn; a granddaughter, Rachel Bean McKenzie and husband Tommy McKenzie; two grandsons, Charlie Bean and wife Dawn, and Reb Bean and wife Candace; five great-grandsons, Elliot McKenzie, Truett McKenzie, Jack McKenzie, Miles Bean and Harrison Bean; three great-granddaughters, Madison Bean, Emma Taylor Bean and Kate McKenzie; a sister, Willa Neal Yeaman Carter; and a brother, Joseph Fletcher Yeaman.

Pallbearers are Don DeKreek, Dub Brock, Jimmy Robinson, Larry Chisholm, Jerry Alford and Pat McCullough.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 810, Memphis, TN 38101.

Alford K. Butrick

Alford K. Butrick, 80, of Summit, died July 21, 2009, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.

Marshall I. Phelps

Marshall Isiah Phelps, 40, of Zachary, La., died there July 19, 2009.

Visitation is 5 to 8 tonight at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb and 1 p.m. Thursday until services at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Miracle Lighthouse Cemetery.

Mr. Phelps was born Nov. 24, 1968, in Magnolia. He was the son of Buck H. Phelps Sr. and the late Bessie Dianne Fowler.

He was an avid cowboy. He had a love for horses and worked as a farrier and horse trainer.

Mr. Phelps was preceded in death by his mother and a son, Marshall Phelps Jr.

Survivors include his father; his stepmother, Betty Phelps; a daughter, Darlene Nichole Phelps Watson and her husband John O’Rion Watson; his fianceé, Kim Rabalais; four sisters, Franices Turnage, Dianne Shoffner, Nancy Sayes and Tina Lewis; five brothers, Bobby Phelps, Jeffrey Phelps, William Avery, Buck Phelps and Jimmy Phelps; a grandson, Marcus O’Rion Watson; and many other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Chris Hutson, Andy Hutson, Jeff Phelps, William Avery, Charlie Scott and Ben Sayes.

Harry Rodgers

Harry Kenneth Rodgers, 89, of Amory, died July 20, 2009, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.

Services were 9 a.m. today at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory, with Father Tom Lolar and Sister Florita Rodman officiating. A funeral mass will be 11:15 a.m. Thursday at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in Magnolia, with Father Brian Kasky officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.

Mr. Rodgers was born June 2, 1920, in Randolph, to Henry Lake and Freddie Harriet Bouchillon Rodgers.

He lived in Magnolia and in Amory for four years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. In 1952, he married Grace L. Gianforte, who preceded him in death in 2004. He worked as a Cooperative Extension Service agent and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Mr. Rodgers was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, Whit Rodgers; and a sister, Louise Bland.

Survivors include two sons, Harry Ken Rodgers Jr. and wife Kathy of Tupelo and John David Rodgers of Amory; a brother, Henry Clay Rodgers of Pontotoc; four grandchildren, Sara Roeder, Jacob Roeder, Nikki Rodgers Farris and John Daniel Rodgers; and two great-grandchildren, Bry-son Rodgers Farris and Chloe Grace Farris.

James V. Marshall

James Vernell “Slugo” Marshall, 62, of Clarksville, Tenn., and formerly of Magnolia, died July 18, 2009, at Gateway Medical Center in Clarksville.

Visitation will begin at noon Saturday at Young’s Funeral Home in Summit and continue until services there at 1 p.m. The Rev. Johnny Anderson will officiate, and burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery.

Mr. Marshall was born Aug. 13, 1946, in Magnolia. He was the son of T.C. Taylor and Mary Williams.

He was a graduate of Eva Gordon High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam and Gulf wars. He retired in 1992 after 25 years of service.

Mr. Marshall was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles Ray Banks; and two aunts, Ora Felder and Alma McKinley.

Survivors include his wife, Hilda I. Marshall of Clarksville and formerly of McComb; a daughter, Belinda L. Marshall of Clarksville; a granddaughter, Domonique R. Marshall of Clarksville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Delores and Tracey Jordan of Cleveland, Ohio, and Vernes and Bobby Harness of Magnolia; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Carrie and Lafayette Harris of McComb, Andrew Watson Jr. and Viola of California and Charles C. Watson of McComb; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Johnny W. Marks Jr.

Johnny Wilbur Marks Jr., 32, of Franklinton, La., died July 16, 2009, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Bush, La.

Visitation is 6 to 8 tonight at Ginn Funeral Home in Tylertown. Services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Friendship Church of God in Christ in Hackley, La. The Rev. Bruce L. Brown Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Hayes Chapel Cemetery in Hackley.

Mr. Marks was born Nov. 8, 1976, in Los Angeles. He was the son of Johnny Wilbur “J.W.” Marks Sr. of Long Beach, Calif., and Joann Pigott Marks of Hackley.

He was preceded in death by grandmothers, Annice Marks and Christine Brown Jordan; a special uncle, Lem Dillon and uncle, Jessie Marks.

Survivors include his parents; his companion of eight years, Catandra Lewis of Franklinton, La.; four sons, Vincent “Li’l Johnny” Haley of Slidell, La., and Jonkez “Nankie” Dillon, Bladen J. Marks and Cameron Trazell “Tre” Lewis, all of Franklinton; two daughters, Tia Ja “Tootie” Marks of Bogalusa, La., and London Paris Marks of Hammond, La.; a goddaughter, T’Amber “Tai-Tai” Lee of Tylertown; brother, Benard T. Forrest of Baton Rouge; sister, Tomisha Marks of Hackley; two nephews, Wayne and Chymek Marks, both of Hackley; and two aunts, Emma Lee Chisholm of Paramount, Calif., and Reshan Lipsey of Los Angeles.

Pallbearers are Niki Lee, Deautae Gatlin, Lance “L.J. Jackson, Christopher Marks, Fredrick Brown and Ryan Brown. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Brown, Larry Brown, Michael Brown, Nicholas Brown, Deon Chisholm, John H. Brown, Charlie Chisholm, Kelvin Brown, Calvin Cotton and Ray Robertson.

Horace Mark Cole

Horace Mark Cole, 84, of Clinton, Miss., died July 19, 2009, at his home.

Visitation was 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton, and 9 a.m. today until services there at 10 a.m. Dr. Greg Belser of Morrison Heights Baptist Church officiated. Graveside services are 2:30 p.m. today in the Reeves Family Cemetery in Pike County, with the Rev. Tommy Shumate officiating.

Mr. Cole was born April 6, 1925, in McComb, the fifth child of John Walter and Emma Edith Page Cole.

In 1943, he graduated from McComb High School, where he excelled on the debate team. He achieved the Eagle Scout designation. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served three years as a pharmacist’s mate in World War II. Following his military service, he began his 39-year career with Mississippi Power & Light, where he retired as the first safety director. Until recently, he enjoyed operating his own small electrical business.

As a faithful member of Baptist churches in McComb, Greenville, Natchez and Clinton, he taught junior high boys in Sunday school for 25 years and participated in the choir. His many pleasures were fishing, spending time with friends, gardening and inventing unique items. He enjoyed 63 years with Ina, the love of his life.

Mr. Cole was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Benjamin, Johnnie and Robert Cole; and a sister, Doris Cole Newton.

Survivors include his devoted wife, Ina Faye Cothern Cole; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Cole Ogden and Page of Natchez and Edith Cole Breithaupt and husband Charlie of Petal; granddaughters, Vanessa O. Graham, Valerie O. Seal, Natalie Breithaupt and Leigh Breithaupt; a grandson, Eric Breithaupt; and three great-grandchildren, Hayden Page Seal, Olivia Graham and Bennett Graham.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Morrison Heights Baptist Church or to a charity of choice.

Robert R. Wallace

Robert R. “Bob” Wallace, 81, of Baker, La., died Aug. 6, 2009, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid-City.

Visitation was 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Charlet Funeral Home Inc., in Zachary, La., with Masonic services there at 7 p.m. Visitation continued at 9 a.m. today at the funeral home until services at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Danny Grieg officiating. Graveside services were in Adams Methodist Church Cemetery in Auburn.

Mr. Wallace was born Feb. 12, 1928, in Lincoln County to Enoch and Velma Wallace.
He was an employee of BellSouth for more than 32 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II. He was a former member of East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Posse, a lifetime member of the National Cutting Horse Association, National Rifle Association, CWA, Telephone Pioneers and Trinity Union Lodge 372 F. & A.M.

Mr. Wallace was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Gloria Jean Wallace and Lurline Cutrer; and a brother, Clifford Bailey Wallace.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Eleanor Brister Wallace of Baker; a daughter and son-in-law, Joan Ryland and Ervin of Zachary; a son and daughter-in-law, Brent W. Wallace and Linda of Richfield, Minn.; three sisters, Mabel McNeil of Brookhaven, Maddie Lee Hughes of Auburn and Dorothy Fay Moak and her husband Delton of Bogue Chitto; a brother, Rayford Wallace of Brookhaven; and two grandchildren, Brian Ryals and Shani Wallace.
