Janice Thompson

Janice Louree Young Thompson, 86, of Pricedale, died Aug. 7, 2009, at Golden Living Center in Tylertown.

Visitation was 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb, and 10 a.m. today at Union Primitive Baptist Church until services there at 1 p.m. with Elder Mickey Myers and Elder Randall Myers officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Thompson was born Oct. 17, 1922, in Warnerton, La., to Jones Taylor Young and Fannie Nettles Dickerson Young.

Mrs. Thompson was known by many precious titles and was teasingly called “Prunk” by her brothers. She graduated from Carter’s Creek School as “Janice.” She married her sweetheart as “Louree.” To her children she was Mother, Momma and Mom. To her nieces and nephews she was “Aunt Ree.” She became a mother-in-law as “Momma Lou” and was “Maw Maw” to her grandchildren and “Maw Maw Great” and “Great” to her great-grandchildren. In her declining years she was known as “Miss Lou” by many friends and loved ones. Above all of these titles, her family said her favorite was to be called a Child of God.
She was a faithful member of Union Primitive Baptist Church for more than 70 years. After graduating from high school, she was a devoted housewife and mother, active in PTA and church activities. Later she worked for F.W. Woolworth, T.G.&Y and Kellwood Co. in McComb, where she was recognized for invention. Mom will be truly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl Benjamin Thompson; a great-grandson, Ryan Pappas; her stepmother, Fannie “Gran” Young; siblings, Lee, Pete and G.C. Dickerson, Harold, Robert and Charles Young, Essie Summers, Wadie Howell, Ina Mae Guy and Willie B. Reid.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Ron and Flo Thompson of Fairhope, Ala., Jan Brown of Brookhaven, Mike and Judy Thompson of Magnolia and Becky and Ronnie Campbell of Tylertown; her grandchildren and their spouses, Hollie and Terry Pappas, Tamatha and Mike McElmurry, Leanne and Darren McCaffery, Gretchen and Dr. Lee Neal, Carly and Josh Jordan, Mat Thompson, Ben and Courtney Thompson, Jennifer and Roland Burch, Amanda and Darin Ballard, Stephanie and Jess Greer, Anna and Steve Lawrence and Sara and Will DeLong; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Claire McElmurry, Mitch Pappas, Boyd, Noah and Seth McCaffery, Harris, Reid, Fitz and Finley Neal, Navy Elizabeth and Hayes Jordan, Brock, Brittney, Brooke and Bayleigh Burch, Sydney, Lyndey and Carly Greer, and Peyton and Logan Lawrence; two sisters-in-law, Son Young of Felders Campground and Vera Young of Laurel; the staff at Hospice Compassus and her many caregivers and sitters.
Pallbearers are Darin Ballard, Brock Burch, Roland Burch, Josh Jordan, Darren McCaffery, Mike McElmurry, Dr. Lee Neal, Mitch Pappas, Terry Pappas, Ben Thompson and Mat Thompson.

Memorials may be sent to the Mississippi Alzheimer’s Association, 1900 Dunbarton Drive, Suite 1, Jackson, MS 39216.

William B. Badon

William Benjamin “Willie B.” Badon, 84, of Liberty, died Aug. 7, 2009, at Liberty Community Living Center.
Visitation was 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Brown Funeral Home in Liberty. Visitation continued at 1 p.m. today at Liberty Baptist Church in Liberty until services there at 2 p.m., with the Rev. James Sadler officiating. Burial is in Liberty Cemetery.

Mr. Badon was born Feb. 11, 1925, in Smithdale, to Thomas Ford Badon and Nannie Cruise Badon.

He was a longtime businessman in Liberty and retired as owner-operator of Liberty Auto-Lec hardware store in 1990. He was a longtime member of Liberty Baptist Church and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a gunner on the battleship U.S.S. North Carolina.
Some of his favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, deer watching and visiting with his friends at the hardware store.

He was preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers and sisters, Ira Welch, Lorraine Prestridge, Ethel Mae VanNorman, Royce Badon, Ellzey Badon, Mary Lee McGehee and Eddith Gillispie.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Imogene Mitchell Badon of Liberty; a son and daughter-in-law, William “Bill” and Connie Badon of Liberty; two grandchildren, Shaina and Alex Badon; a brother and sister-in-law, T.F. and Betty Badon of Liberty; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Bradley Martin

Mary M. Bradley Martin, 43, of Gloster, died Aug. 7, 2009, at her residence.
Arrangements are incomplete with Peoples Undertaking Co. in McComb in charge.

Willie J. Martin

Willie J. Martin, 43, of Gloster, died Aug. 7, 2009, at his residence.

Jeffrey L. Davis

Jeffrey L. Davis, 26, of McComb, died Aug. 9, 2009, from an accidental drowning in Sylacauga, Ala.

Arrangements are incomplete with Craft Funeral Home in McComb in charge.

Betty Sue Temple

Betty Sue Temple, 74, of Picayune, died Aug. 8, 2009, at Highland Community Hospital.

Visitation is 1 p.m. today at Picayune Funeral Home until services there at 2 p.m. Bro. Carl Duane McDaniel is officiating. Burial is in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The service also will be a time of remembrance for Betty’s husband, Robert Temple, who died June 21, 2009.

Mrs. Temple was born Nov. 20, 1934, in Fernwood. She was the daughter of Percy L. and Ethelyn McDaniel.
She lived in the Picayune area for 48 years and was a Baptist. She and her husband owned Miss Betty’s Day Care Center and the Ozona Store.

Mrs. Temple was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, Percy Carl McDaniel.

Survivors include two sons, Joe Temple of Carriere and Robert D. Temple of Jackson; a brother, Jimmy D. McDaniel and his wife Sheila of Fernwood; a sister-in-law, Margie McDaniel of McComb; and three grandchildren.

Willie H. Kelleher

Willie Nell Hart Kelleher, 84, of Tylertown, died Aug. 9, 2009, at her residence.

Visitation is 5 to 9 tonight at Tabernacle Apostolic Church in Kentwood, La. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Raymond Garcia officiating. Burial will be in Spence Cemetery. Capps Funeral Home in Tylertown is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kelleher was born Aug. 12, 1924, in Pike County. She was the daughter of Willie V. and Bessie O. Marbury Hart.
She was a retired nurse and was a member of Praise Tabernacle Apostolic Church.

Mrs. Kelleher was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Leo Kelleher; a son, Richard James Kelleher; two sisters, Lillian Mizell and Betty Hammon; and two brothers, Winton C. Hart and Ronald C. Hart Sr.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Mary Paulette Whittington Kelleher of Tylertown; nieces and nephews, the Rev. Raymond Garcia and family; and the Praise Tabernacle Church family.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Gros, Richard Strange, Russell Garcia, Randall Garcia, Roger Whittington, Anthony Lee and David Brooks.

Clarence G. Gates

Clarence Glenn “C.G.” Gates, 80, of Osyka and a longtime resident of Denham Springs, La., died Aug. 3, 2009, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.

Family and friends remembered and celebrated his life at his daughter’s home on Aug. 6 to fulfill his wishes.

His body was donated to Genesis Legacy in Memphis, Tenn.
Mr. Gates was born in Shreveport, La.

He was a retired businessman.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ed Gates of Shreveport.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Gene Singleton Gates; two daughters, Elizabeth Anne Alsobrook of Etowah, Tenn., and Pamela Thorning of Denham Springs; two sons, Randolph G. “Greg” Gates of Denham Springs and Stephen Alan Gates of Parachute, Colo.; two brothers, Elbert Gene Gates of Houston, Texas, and Ted Gates of Shreveport; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Robert E. Haley
Robert “Bob” E. Haley, 84, of McComb, died Aug. 10, 2009, at Camellia Estates in McComb.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 tonight at Jones Family Funeral Services in McComb, and 2 p.m. Wednesday until services there at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery.

Cleo Brumfield

Cleo Brumfield, 82, of Magnolia, died Aug. 10, 2009, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.

Arrangements are incomplete with Cook’s Enterprise Funeral Home in McComb in charge.

Susan C. Haskins

Susan Christena Haskins, 20, of McComb, died Aug. 11, 2009.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 tonight at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in McComb with Dr. Mack Amis and the Rev. Wayne Hall officiating. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery.

Miss Haskins was born Oct. 16, 1988, in McComb, to Carldon Odell “Don” Haskins Jr. and Barri Butler Haskins.
A 2007 honor graduate of Parklane Academy, Susan was homecoming queen, a cheerleader, a member of the McComb Garden Club Azalea Court and president of the McComb Junior Auxiliary Crown Club.

She was a junior hospitality management major at the University of Mississippi. Susan was an active member of Kappa Delta Sorority and a member of the rush team. A chancellor’s honor roll student, she volunteered for Leap Frog, was a member of Ole Miss Ambassadors of Southern Hospitality and recently was inducted into Sigma Alpha Lambda, a national leadership and honors organization.

Her lifelong friend, Lee Anna Woodcock, said, “Susan had the unique ability to always make everyone feel special and needed. Her kindness and warmth filled a room and impacted our hearts for good.”
Susan’s most treasured advice came from her grandmother, Mama Sue: “Try to do something good for someone every day. Stay close to God and He will stay close to you.”

She lived a life that exemplified these words.

Susan was an active member of First Baptist Church in McComb.

Miss Haskins was preceded in death by one brother, Carldon Odell “Carr” Haskins III; and her grandfathers, Calvin Butler and Carldon O. Haskins Sr.

Survivors include her parents; her brother, Cal Haskins of Hammond, La.; and her grandmothers, Mrs. Calvin (Susan) Butler of Clinton, and Mrs. Carldon O. (Tena) Haskins Sr. of McComb.

The family requests that memorials be sent to the Baptist Children’s Village in Jackson or the McComb Junior Auxiliary’s Camp Sunshine.
