Mildred B. Gibson
Mildred Bertha Gibson, 88, of Woodville, died Aug. 6, 2009, at her sister’s residence in Baton Rouge.

Visitation is 10 a.m. Friday at Bay Ridge Baptist Church in Woodville until services there at 11 a.m. The Rev. Frank Sullivan will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Rest Cemetery in Woodville, with Newman Funeral Home in Centreville in charge of arrangements.

Miss Gibson was born March 18, 1921, in Woodville, to Robert and Pinkie Doleman Gibson.

She worked as a seamstress, and was a baker and a gardener who loved to do for others. She had been a member of Bay Ridge Baptist Church since childhood.

Miss Gibson was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary G. Williams; and four brothers, John Webb, Robert Gibson Jr., Johnny H. Gibson and William Gibson.

Her survivors include six sisters and a brother-in-law, Hazel and Lev Stewart, Bernice Stewart, Willie Mae Bennett, Alice Bazile and Dorothy Gibson, all of Baton Rouge, and Bessie Barnes of Woodville.
Pallbearers will be Robert Gibson, Michael Gibson, Johnny Gibson Jr., Andre Gibson, Terry Gibson and Kerry Gibson.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Kempt Jr., Lester Stewart, Clarence Williams, Clarence Williams Jr., Corey Williams and John Kempt III.

Sadie P. Sanders

Sadie Pearl Sanders, 66, of Gloster, died Aug. 9, 2009, at her residence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Gloster First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Willie Shavers Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Gloster. Anderson Funeral Home in Gloster is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Sanders was born Sept. 3, 1942, in Mississippi. She was the daughter of Lillie B. Crawford.

Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Earl Sanders Sr.; and a son, Odis Dell Cooper.

Survivors include a son, Stefon Cooper of Gloster; a daughter, Jennifer Cooper of Gloster; three grandchildren, Johnny W. Robinson of Jackson, Christopher Jackson of Gloster and Latrice VanNorman of New Orleans; a brother and sister-in-law, Eddie Hughes Jr. and Gladys of Baton Rouge; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and John McPipe of Baton Rouge; five stepchildren, April Sanders, Corey Sanders, Robert Earl Sanders Jr., Brian Sanders and John D. Thompson, all of Gloster; a foster son, Derrick Tobias of Gloster; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Robert E. Haley

Robert “Bob” Edward Haley, 85, of McComb, died Aug. 10, 2009, at Camellia Estates.

Visitation is 2 p.m. today at Jones Family Funeral Services in McComb until services there at 3 p.m. Dr. Jimmy Porter will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Hollywood Cemetery.

Mr. Haley was born June 24, 1924, in Pike County, to Daniel and Loube Bridges Haley.

Mr. Haley proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Shangri-La during World War II and was also aboard the ship in Tokyo Bay for the signing of the peace treaty between the United States and Japan.

Following World War II, Mr. Haley worked for Illinois Central Railroad in Chicago. He then returned home, where he began his 31-year career with Mississippi Power & Light Co. in their steam plants.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of McComb.

Mr. Haley was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jack and Albert Haley.

Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Lee Haley of McComb; a son and daughter-in-law, Earl and Susan Baham; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Don Ward; four grandchildren, Kristen, Kelly, Katie and Grant; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John and Russell Blackwell, Wade Lamb, Jim Edwards, Lew Herring and Randy Ferris. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Mr. Haley’s Sunday school class.

Paul J. Wichers

Paul J. Wichers, 80, of Magnolia, died Aug. 12, 2009, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.

Cleo Brumfield Sr.

Cleo Brumfield Sr., 82, of Magnolia, died Aug. 10, 2009, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cook’s Enterprise Funeral Home in McComb, then noon Friday at Pleasant Spring Baptist Church until services there at 1 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

J.C. Gardner

J.C. Gardner, 73, of Osyka, died Aug. 11, 2009, at his residence, after a lengthy illness.

Arrangements are incomplete with Craft Funeral Home in McComb in charge.

Brenda Ann Deer

Brenda Ann Stephens Deer, 62, of McComb died Aug. 15, 2009, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Central Baptist Church, McComb. The Revs. Randall Griffin, Bob Lynch and David Millican will officiate. Cook-Enterprise Funeral Home of McComb is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Deer was born June 2, 1947, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, the daughter of William George “Bill” Stephens and Florizel Maud “Flo” Stephens.

She was a partner in Photo Perfect and worked in sales with Lott Furniture.
She was past president of the McComb Lions Club, past Ladies Club champion at Fernwood Country Club, a member of Central Baptist Church and an avid golfer, bicyclist and photographer.

Brenda will be remembered by her family and friends for her infectious laugh and beautiful smile. The family thanks all their friends and Central Baptist Church members for the love shown to Brenda and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Lenna Elizabeth Munro; an aunt, Sophie Edgecombe; and her father-in-law, Ray Deer.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Leon Deer of McComb; mother-in-law, Fay Kirkland Deer of McComb; and one brother and sister-in-law, William George “Bill” and Judith “Judy” Anne Edgecombe of Kelowna, B.C.

In lieu of flowers, make donations to Hospice Compassus of McComb, American Cancer Society or Central Baptist Church.

Joan D. Jackson

Joan Darville Jackson, 80, of Kinder, La., died Aug. 14, 2009, at Riverside Hospital in Alexandria, La.

Visitation is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Ardoin Funeral Home in Kinder, continuing at Kinder United Methodist Church from 2 p.m. until services there at 3. The Rev. Truman Stagg will officiate, and burial will follow in Green Oak Cemetery.

Mrs. Jackson was born July 2, 1929, in McComb, to Robert and Viola Darville.
She was a graduate of McComb High School and the University of Southern Mississippi. She retired from the Allen Parish school system after teaching at Kinder Elementary for 20 years.

She lived most of her life in Kinder. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Kinder Garden Club.

She served on numerous boards for Kinder United Methodist Church, receiving the Cross and Flame Award for her devoted service to the church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Badon “Bill” Jackson, and a great-grandson, Hudson Storer.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Courtney J. Storer and Dr. George Storer of Moss Bluff, La., and Kay J. Buck, and Dr. Michael Buck of Alexandria; a brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Joe Ann Darville of McComb; seven grandchildren, Dr. Bill Storer and wife Kristina, Lara S. Guidroz and husband David, Kris S. Price and husband Kelvin, Zack Storer, Ruthanne Buck, Jane Buck and Helen Buck and fiancé Richard Chatman; and nine great-grandchildren, Drew, Kate and Wes Price, Cameron and Easton Storer, Meredith, Cecilia and Thatcher Guidroz and Hollis Buck.

Pallbearers will be Bill Storer, Zack Storer, David Guidroz, Kelvin Price, John Sneve and Richard Chatman.

Margie C. Bowlin
Margie C. Bowlin, 85, of Baton Rouge, died Aug. 13, 2009, at the Carpenter House hospice there.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. Tuesday at Baker Funeral Home in Baker, La., until services there at 11 a.m. The Rev. Huey Moak will officiate. Burial will be in East Fork Baptist Church Cemetery in Amite County.

Mrs. Bowlin was born Sept. 30, 1923, in Amite County. She was the daughter of Jack and Doll Cleveland.
She was a beautician and a member of Foster Road Baptist Church in Baton Rouge.

Mrs. Bowlin was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Marshel Bowlin Jr.; her parents; one daughter, Janis Bowlin; and an infant son.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Norma Brock and Thomas of East Fork and Tybee Island, Ga.; five grandchildren, Jamie and Dale Campbell, Christian Brock and David and Kimberly Brock; and three great-grandchildren.
Clifton Nichols

Clifton Nichols, 59, of Magnolia died Aug. 11, 2009, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Visitation is 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Washington Funeral Home in Tylertown. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rose Hill Church of God in Christ, Magnolia, with Elder Howard Jefferson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Nichols was born Sept. 3, 1949, in Magnolia, son of the late Willie Nichols and Ole Mae Magee-Nichols of Fernwood. He was a machine operator.

He was preceded in death by his father and three brothers.

Survivors include his mother; two daughters, Kimyetta Smith of Atlanta and Candice Nichols of Parmont, Calif.; one son, Clifton Nichols of Parmont; six sisters and their husbands, Norma and Robert Jackson of McComb, Mary and Gene Littlejohn and Doris Herring, all of Brookhaven, Helen and Jake Burris and Willie M. and Paul Magee, all of Chicago, and Jeanette and Randy Jackson of Fernwood; four brothers and their wives, I.J. and Mary Nichols and Charles Nichols, all of Fernwood, James E. and Debra Nichols of Austin, Texas, and Bernard Nichols of McComb; and one grandson, Jadarius Smith of Atlanta.
