Ada P. Davis, 88, of Laurel died Monday, July 10, 2006, at Magnolia Gardens in Laurel.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Arrington Cemetery in Wayne County. The Rev. David McIssac will officiate.

She was retired from South Central Regional Medical Center and was a member of Lawn Haven Baptist Church in Jones County.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Olla Mae Bunch and Julia McLain; a brother, Luther B. Perryman; two sons, W.R. Davis and J.B. Davis; and a daughter, Floye Trigg.

She is survived by a son, Kennon L. Davis of Laurel; a daughter, Christine Champagne of Houston, Texas; 11 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, which is in charge of arrangements.

Joyce S. Gresham

Joyce S. Gresham, 77, of Ellisville, died Tuesday, July 11, 2006, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Jones Funeral Home in Ellisville, with burial at 1 p.m. at Clear Creek Cemetery in Baxterville. The Rev. David Parker will officiate.

She was a homemaker and a member of Juniper Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cleve and Buelah Stevens; a son, James Willie Sanders; first husband, Willie Vernon Sanders; and second husband, Clint Gresham.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Susan Sanders of Ellisville; grandchildren, Roy Sanders Jr. and wife Melissa Sanders, Shannon Sanders, Lacy Sanders, Stacy Sanders, Jamie Sanders and Jeremy Sanders, all of Ellisville; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Adams, Jayce Sanders, Karah Stern, Lyric Herrin and Anastasia Herrin, all of Ellisville; and special friend, Otis “Snooky” Robertson of Ellisville.

Pallbearers will be Roy Sanders Jr., Trey Wigley, Lee Roundsaville, Jamie Strickland and Danny Ray Abbey.

Pamela Nicholson Brown

Pamela Nicholson Brown, 72, of Jackson, Ala., died Saturday, July 8, 2006.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, at First United Methodist Church in Jackson, with burial in Pinecrest Cemetery in Jackson.

She was a graduate of Mississippi Southern College with a degree in home economics and was a member of Delta Zeta sorority. After college, she taught school for many years before entering private business. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, always putting her family first. She was the world’s greatest Cubs fan and an excellent cook.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Joe Brown; children, Vicki and Joey Heam of Chatom, Ala., Andy and Donna Brown of Gulfport, Dick and Lynne Brown of Jackson, Nick and Mandy Brown of Ruston, La., and Susan Sledge and Homer Sledge III of Cleveland; two brothers, David Nicholson of Marianne, Fla., and Jerry Nicholson of Birmingham, Ala.; and 11 grandchildren.

Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson is in charge of arrangements.

Nelson Newell

Nelson Newell, 68, of Soso, died Friday, July 7, 2006.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, at New Hope Apostolic Church in Soso.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby J. Newell of Soso; mother, Caldonia Newell of Stringer; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Gladys Jones of Hebron, Denise and Q.C. Jones of Soso, and Lisa Newell and Sylvina and Dennis Buckley, all of Laurel; and two sons and daughters-in-law, Vincent L. and Sharon Newell and Michael D. and Johnnie Mae Newell, all of Soso.

Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Thursday, at New Hope Apostolic Church in Soso.

Young’s Funeral Home in Taylorsville is in charge of arrangements.

Dan Jones

Dan Jones, 59, of Ellisville, died Friday, July 14, 2006, in an automobile accident in Galliano, La.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel with internment in Lake Park Hills Cemetery. Dr. Alan Woodward will officiate.

A native of Collins, he worked 34 yeas at Jones County Junior College, making his tenure the longest of any employee at JCJC. The JCJC graduate began as a watch and jewelry repair instructor and was promoted to the administrative positions, Asst. Dean of Vocational Technical Instruction, Enrollment Management Director, and V.P. of Student Affairs.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Jones of Collins.

He is survived by his wife, Martha McCreight Jones of Ellisville; son, Cape Jones of Collins and his fiance`, Elizabeth Todd of Columbia; son and daughter-in-law, Collin and Angela Jones of Mendenhall; father, Stanley Jones of Collins.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Smith, Houston Jones, Jack Crosby, Ed Smith, Sam Jones and George Harrison. Honorary pallbearers will be D.O. Thoms, Jesse Smith, Terrell Tisdale, Ronald Whitehead, Rick Youngblood, Jim Kelly and Aaron Crosby.

Visitation will be 5-10 p.m. today at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel which is in charge of arrangements.

Oliver F. Johnston

Oliver F. “Tunk” Johnston, 82, of Laurel, died Monday, July 17, 2006, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, with burial in Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Vossburg. The Revs. Cary Kimbrell, Robbie Johnson and Tim Lee will officiate.

He was a self-employed construction contractor and served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a Shriner and a member of Oakland Grove Baptist Church in Jones County.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jack Daniel Herrington, and 10 siblings.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Beth Johnston of Laurel; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda J. and Bennis Walters and Milly J. and Jack Herrington, all of Laurel; grandchildren, Rhonda and Jerry Ballard, Sam and Kenneth Keyes, David and Shelly Johnston, Scottie and Tommie Walters, Bryan and Amy Walters, Hannah Johnston and Forrest Johnston; great-grandchildren, Stephanie Ballard, Johnathan Ballard, Mason Walters, Logan Walters, Makenzie Walters, Myles Walters, Anna Cate Walters, Tyler Johnston and Olivia Johnston; and two sisters, Mary Johnston Breire of Pensacola, Fla., and Janelle Troutman of Sandersville.

Pallbearers will be Scottie Walters, Bryan Walters, Mason Walters, Jerry Ballard, Mike Shoemake and Talley Walters. Honorary pallbearer will be David Johnston.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, which is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Ethel Wilson

Mary Ethel Wilson, 77, of Ellisville, died Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Jones Funeral Home in Ellisville, with burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. The Rev. Bryan Atwood will officiate.

She was retired from Ellisville State School and was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and Nora Ingram; husband, Johnny Wilson; a son, Gary Atwood; and a sister, Bonnie Ingram.

She is survived by three sons, Keano Atwood of Seminary and Randy Hodges and Reed Hodges, both of Ellisville; a daughter, Wanda Atwood Coleman of Moselle; a brother, William Jefferson “Billy” Ingram of Ellisville; a sister, Fannie Mae Smith of Hattiesburg; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

John Fletcher Allums

John Fletcher Allums, 93, of Falls Church, Va., died Dec. 11, 2005, in Fairfax, Va.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at Ellisville First United Methodist Church in Ellisville.

He was a Mississippi native.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lora Lee DeLoach Allums, and a daughter, Lee Allums.

He is survived by his siblings, Marvin Miller Allums, Bobbie Allums Bell and Sarah Kate Lapeyrouse.

Everly Funeral Home in Fairfax, Va., was in charge of arrangements.

Robert Cooley Jr.

Robert Cooley Jr., 76, of Laurel, died Thursday, June 22, 2006, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, at Calvary Baptist Church in Laurel, with burial in Oak Hill #2 Cemetery. The Rev. Vernon Graves will officiate.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Cooley Sr. and Velma Cooley, and a daughter, Grace Alice Jones.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Cooley of Laurel;’ six sons and a daughter-in-law, Odell and Doris Cooley, Ricky Jones and Antonio Jones, all of Fremont, Ohio, Jerry Gammage of Iowa and Charles Jones and Willie Gammage, both of Laurel; 10 daughters and two sons-in-law, Bonnie and Dennis Reagan of Fremont, Sheila Gammage of Iowa and Diane Nixon, Joann and Jerry Hall, Loretta Elkins, Wanda Andrews, Pam January, Rosie Jones, Jennifer Jones and Bobbie Smith, all of Laurel; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Margie Porter and Mary and Johnny Hosey, all of Laurel; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Brown Mortuary Inc. in Laurel is in charge of arrangements.

Martha Faye Welch Easterling

Martha Faye Welch Easterling, 66, of Ellisville, died Friday, June 30, 2006, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, at Jones Funeral Home in Ellisville, with burial in Sandhill Cemetery. The Rev. David Allen will officiate.

She was employed with the Jones County Tax AssessorÕs Office and was a member of Sandhill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Aaron Ira and Lucinda Welch, and a sister, Bertha Mae Hill.

She is survived by a son, Kelvin Easterling of Ellisville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Gail Graham of Ellisville and Julie and Claude Dupree of Taylorsville; two brothers, Cliff Welch and Jake Welch, both of Ellisville; two sisters, Ollie Pitts of Ellisville and Mabra Jefcoat of Soso; and two grandchildren, Bobbie Gail Pryor and her husband Josh Pryor and Sharlie Richardson.

Pallbearers will be Lance Smith, David Scruggs, Larry Hilbun, Ron Hilbun, Ryan Hilbun, Trae Shoemake, Randy Lawson and Whitney Welch.

Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. today, at Jones Funeral Home in Ellisville, which is in charge of arrangements.
