Nola B. Bender

Nola B. Bender, 72, of Bay Springs, died Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Bay Springs, with burial in Shady Grove Cemetery in Taylorsville. The Rev. Gerald J. Chatman will officiate.

She was employed by Friends of Children as a housekeeper. She was the daughter of the late Daniel Keys and the late Thelma Ducksworth Keys.

She is survived by her husband, Henry Bender of Bay Springs; a daughter, Sandra Gavin of Bay Springs; two sons, Dale Bender of Laurel and Hubert Hilton of Bay Springs; a sister, Mary Doris Love of Laurel; two brothers, Joe Calvin Keys and Bobby Ray Agee, both of Bay Springs; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, at Bay Springs Funeral Home in Bay Springs, which is in charge of arrangements.

William C. Kelly

William C. “Billy” Kelly, 69, of Heidelberg, died Thursday, July 6, 2006, at Regency Hospital in Meridian.

Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. today, at Heidelberg Cemetery. The Rev. Bill Boulton will officiate.

A self-employed pulpwood dealer, he was a member of Heidelberg Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Rachel Evans Kelly of Heidelberg; a daughter, Lora Blackledge of Meridian; and two grandchildren, Nicole Blackledge of Hattiesburg and Brandon Blackledge of Meridian.

Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Heidelberg is in charge of arrangements.

Billy S. Ellzey

Billy S. Ellzey, 82, of Soso, died Tuesday, July 4, 2006, at Guardian Angel Hospice in Raleigh.

Graveside services were held Saturday, at Ellzey Cemetery. The Rev. John Hilbun officiated.

He was retired from Masonite and was a member of First Baptist Church in Ellisville. He was a World War II Navy veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Annie Lee Ellzey; first wife, Betty Ellzey; two sons, John Ellzey and Chris Ellzey; and 23 brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Ellzey of Soso; two sons and daughters-in-law, Billy Wayne and Angie Ellzey of Oak Grove and Jimmy and Shirley Ellzey of Moselle; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Charlotte Ellzey of Houston, Texas, Pam and W.J. Livingston of Laurel and Joyce and Calvin Broome of Mandeville, La.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Ollie Faye and Hugh Touchy of Houston, Texas, and Eleanor and John Allen Butler and Jackie Hill, all of Soso; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a stepson, Jessie Fitzgerald of Laurel and his family Mark Fitzgerald, Michelle Fitzgerald, Kandi Fitzgerald and Frankie Fitzgerald; a stepson and his wife, Larry and Linda Fitzgerald of Laurel and their family, Jennifer Fitzgerald, Kenny Fitzgerald and Amanda Fitzgerald; and a stepdaughter and her husband, Lori and John Dickens of Collins.

Jones Funeral Home in Ellisville was in charge of arrangements.

William Flynt McCraw

William Flynt McCraw, 89, of Meridian, died Friday, July 7, 2006, at Queen City Nursing Center in Meridian.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at Barham Funeral Home in Meridian, with burial in Meridian Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr. Jason Bird will officiate.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Judy McCraw of Laurel; three grandchildren, Nicki McCraw of Seattle, Wash., Scott McCraw of New Orleans, La., and Russell Adams of Philadelphia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. today, at Barham Funeral Home in Meridian, which is in charge of arrangements.

Marie M. Braddock

Marie M. Braddock, 77, of Ellisville, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Ellisville, with burial in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The Revs. Darrell Mayo and Gerald Henderson will officiate.

She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and was retired from the meat market at Jitney Jungle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, “Vep” Montgomery and Daisy Massey; a sister, Jean Braddock; and a husband, William “Bill” Braddock.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Barbara Braddock of Laurel; three grandchildren, Michele Beagle of Columbia, S.C., Keith Braddock of Louisville and Dusty Braddock of Petal; great-grandchildren, Hayden Braddock of Gainesville, Fla., Morgan Beagle of Columbia, S.C. and Kye Braddock of Louisville; a sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Jack Touchtone of Peachtree City, Ga.; and special family, Concetta Brooks, Becky Crane, Ruth Dossett and employees and residents of Jones County Rest Home.

Pallbearers will be Russell Brooks, Roy West, Harold West, Oscar Montgomery, Rhett Reid and Lavelle Braddock. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. James Beasley and Charles Brett.

Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. today, at Jones Funeral Home in Ellisville, which is in charge of arrangements.

T.J. Miller

T.J. “Tommy” Miller, 92, of Laurel, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, with burial in Sharon Cemetery. The Revs. Bud Dixon, Eddie Lambert and Andy Miller will officiate.

A native of Jasper County, he was a member of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church. He was a retired brick mason and a charter member of the brick union. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Sandersville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.L. and Arlie Clark Miller; a son, Thomas L. Miller; three grandchildren; four brothers; six sisters; and three sons-in-law, Harold Bush, Robert J. Graham and Bobby D. Holifield.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Blanche Gable Miller of Laurel; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Henry and Mary Miller of Ellisville, Sidney H. Miller of Ellisville and James E. Miller of Laurel; three daughters and a son-in-law, Arlene and Calvin Heptinstall of Laurel, Annie R. Graham of Stringer and Edna G. Holifield of Mobile, Ala.; 22 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

John Wesley Adams

John Wesley Adams, 82, of Laurel, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, with burial Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Jones County.

He was a Baptist and a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Berry and Louisia Adams.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Durham Adams of Laurel; two sons, James Logan of Stringer and Larry Logan of Crossville, Tenn.; four daughters, Betty Wadell of Beckley, W.V., Becky Graham and Deborah Weems, both of Ellisville, and Charliene Fraser of Maryland; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today, at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, which is in charge of arrangements.

Bobbie Clark Holifield

Bobbie Clark Holifield, 77, of Laurel, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006, at Comfort Care Nursing Home in Laurel.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, at Indian Springs Cemetery in Jones County. The Rev. Robert Scruggs officiated.

A homemaker, she was retired from Walmart and was a member of Indian Springs Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, J.W. Holifield; mother, Mary Clark Barber; father, F.E. Clark Sr.; and a brother, Zeno Clark.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Jonie Jones of Laurel and Rusty and Debbie Holifield of Ellisville; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Kenneth Walker of Soso; grandchildren, Stacey Hilbun of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Tara Jones, Kendall McCord, Jess Holifield and Josh Holifield, all of Laurel; seven great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Harold Lee of Laurel; special friends, Jackie Mallett, Carolyn Calloway, Frankie Bailey and Ollie Thompson; and special friend and caretaker, Jean Taie.

Pallbearers were Mike Hunter, George Calloway, Rodney Parker, Johnny Holifield, Brandon Bush and Darrell Strickland.

Arline Crews

Arline Crews, 73, of Covington, La., died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006.

Memorial services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, in the garden room of Christwood Retirement Community in Covington.

She was a native of Birmingham, Ala., a former resident of Laurel and a resident of Covington for the past two years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Crews.

She is survived by two daughters, Marcia Bailey Holmes and Linda Bailey Mayer; two grandchildren, Mary Lee Holmes and Perry Pfister; and a brother, Louis W. Perry Jr.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Northshore Office, P.O. Box 2484, Covington, La. 70434.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until service time Saturday, at Christwood Retirement Community.

E.J. Fielding Funeral Home Inc. in Covington is in charge of arrangements.

Sylvester Ferguson

Sylvester Ferguson, 64, of Laurel, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2006, at the Veterans Administration Center in Jackson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Elmo Baptist Church in Laurel, with burial in Nora Davis Cemetery. The Rev. Joe Holloway will officiate.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Nancy Ferguson; two sisters, Clara Nell Ferguson and Sally Beatrice Ferguson; and a brother, James Hamp Ferguson.

He is survived by three sisters, Willie J. Mosley of Chicago, Ill., Evelyn Sue Keller of Waterloo, Iowa, and Jenelle Ferguson of Laurel; two aunts; an uncle; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
