Joseph Leonard Broadhead
Joseph Leonard Broadhead, 71, of Bay Springs, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, with burial in Mathews Cemetery.
He was a retired consultant and was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Columbus Broadhead and Hester W. Holifield Broadhead, and two brothers, Laudis Broadhead and Eldon Welborn.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Ruth Caudill Broadhead of Bay Springs; a son and daughter-in-law, Leonard Dewayne and Kelly Broadhead of Bay Springs; three daughters and sons-in-law, Trudy and Johnny Yelverton of Laurel, Rhonda and Derrick Robinson of Puckett and Sandra and Kenny Pool of Homer, La.; two sisters, Melba Craft and Attie Mae Welborn, both of Laurel; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today, at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, which is in charge of arrangements.
Roberta V. Maxcey
Roberta V. “Bobbie” Maxcey, 65, of Heidelberg, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Florence Church Cemetery in Sandersville.
She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Viola Runbeck, and a son, Steve Sloan.
She is survived by two sons, Jim Sloan of Atlanta, Ga., and Tommy Sloan of Moss; five daughters, Sandi Gray of Las Vegas, Nev., Lynda Maxcey of Sandersville, Billie-Jo Maxcey and Jessie Mozingo, both of Northport, Ala., and Charli-Ann Campbell of Soso; 27 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, which is in charge of arrangements.
Jessie Ducksworth
Jessie Ducksworth, 92, of Taylorsville, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2006, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, at Leaf River Baptist Church in Taylorsville, with burial in New Hopewell Cemetery in Taylorsville. The Rev. James E. Page will officiate.
He worked as an electrical lineman for Southern Pine Power Association and attended Leaf River Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Fannie Barnes Ducksworth, and two sons, J.D. Ducksworth and Evon Ducksworth.
He is survived by his wife, Carmel Powe Ducksworth; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ross George and Georgia Ducksworth of Gulfport and James David and Helen Ducksworth of Laurel; four daughters and sons-in-law, Etoria and Roosevelt Harris of Jackson, Lenora and Augustus Johnson of Gulfport and Carmel and Andrew Jordan and Patricia and Lorenzo King, all of Taylorsville; two brothers, L.C. Ducksworth of Milwaukee, Wis., and Franklin Ducksworth of Easterlin, Wis.; a sister, Catherine Robinson of Taylorsville; 27 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. today, at Bay Spring Funeral Home in Bay Springs, which is in charge of arrangements.
Eva Frances Tucker Bullock
Eva Frances Tucker Bullock, 75, of Lucedale, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006, at George County Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today, at George County Funeral Home in Lucedale, with burial in Magnolia Cemetery. Malcolm Clark and J.B. Stonecypher will officiate.
A member of Temple Missionary Baptist Church, she was a nurse’s aide at Ellisville State School.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Will Thomas Bullock; a grandson, Jimmy Henry Tucker; and parents, H.C. and Lottie Tucker.
She is survived by a son,; Jimmy Tucker of Lucedale; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Sidney Eugene Tucker of Centerville, Texas, and Howard Allen Tucker of Gulfport; four sisters, Louise Bush of Soso, Margaret Rogers of Collins,; Betty Nix of Centerville, Texas, and Dale Baker of Laurel.
Visitation will be held from 2-3 p.m. today, at George County Funeral Home in Lucedale, which is in charge of arrangements.
Jeanette Finnegan
Jeanette Finnegan, 72, of Laurel, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006, at Windham House in Hattiesburg.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at Immaculate Conception Church in Laurel, with burial in Crestview Cemetery in Laurel. Mike Thornton and Ken Ramon-Landry will officiate.
She was a homemaker and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where she taught Sunday school and did volunteer work. She was also a volunteer at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel.
She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Sonny and Karen Finnegan of St. Louis, Mo., Brian and Diane Finnegan of Meridian, Chris and Cindy Finnegan of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Andy and Jennifer Finnegan of Hattiesburg; two daughters and a son-in-law, Paula and Bobby Phillips of Bay Springs and Laura Finnegan of New Orleans; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Gina Headrick of Laurel; a sister, Carline Craig of Laurel; grandchildren and their spouses, Ellen and Paul Russell, Renee’ and Rod Tolbert, Megan Phillips, Jonathan Phillips, Grayson and Makenna Finnegan and Chandra and Sam Shumate; and three great-grandchildren, Andrew Shumate, Annaleigh Shumate and Sara Beth Shumate.
Pallbearers will be Richard Headrick, Jonathan Phillips, Hurd Finnegan, Sam Shumate, Lyon Herrington and Wayne Nichols. Honorary pallbearers are Paul Russell, Rod Tolbert, Norbert Finnegan and Matt White.

Laverna Weldy Cox
Laverna Weldy Cox, 99, of Madison, formerly of Laurel, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, at Nichols Center in Madison.
Graveside services were held Monday, at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Laurel.
She was a kind, loving mother and grandmother, and wife of the late Carl Harper Cox. She was a lifelong resident of Laurel. She was the daughter of Charnell Weldy and Emma Stringer Weldy. She was born Oct. 8, 1906, in Perry County. She attended Laurel city schools and was a devoted member of the First Methodist Church congregation. She was among the first telephone operators for the local phone service.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Doreece, in 1938, and by all of her six siblings.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charnell C. Cox and Janelle N. Cox of Madison; a grandson, Joshua L. Cox of South Bend, Ind.; and many caring nieces and nephews.

Chase F. Leaser
Chase F. “Bo” Leaser, 91, of Theriot, La., died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, in Houma, La.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, at Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Laurel.
He will always be remembered as a hardworking man that anyone could count on anytime. He retired from Schlumberger with more than 47 years of dedicated service. He proudly served in World Ward II in the United States Navy, attaining the rank of chief boatswain mate. He was active in Masonry and its various organizations including Shriners, Knights Templar and Scottish Rite Consistory. He was also a member of Unity Lodge F and AM No. 267, where he was past worshipful master. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4752 and American Legion Post 31.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary McAlpin Leaser; parents, Ruben E. Leaser and Albina Sedlacek Leaser; and a sister, Annie Victoria Zimbro.
He is survived by three sisters, Alfrina Christine James of Markham, Texas, Alice May Danner of Mexia, Texas, and Nora Lee Bucek of Bay City, Texas.

Mary E. Harris
Mary E. Harris, 81, of Laurel, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006, at the Care Center of Laurel.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, at Jehovah’s Kingdom Hall in Laurel, with burial in Oak Hill #2 Cemetery. Michael Robinson will officiate.
She was retired from Ellisville State School and was a member of Jehovah’s Kingdom Hall.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stan and Faciev Combest.
She is survived by a son, Gary Harris of Laurel; four daughters, Juanita Sims of Laurel, and Margo Merritt, Sybil Cage and Mary Alice Harris, all of New Jersey; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. today, at Jehovah’s Kingdom Hall.

Bobbie Jean Robinson, 70, of Ellisville, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, at Jones and Son Funeral Home in Moselle, with burial in Oak Bowery Cemetery in Ellisville. The Revs. Glen Shoemake and Buster Smith will officiate.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, George Max Robinson of Ellisville; a son, Timothy Robinson of Moselle; two daughters, Renae Holifield and Joan Frederick, both of Ellisville; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Betty Holifield Moore
Betty Holifield Moore, 73, of Laurel, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Rev. Jimmy Holder will officiate.
She was preceded in death by a son, Doug Holifield and a daughter, Patti Holifield.
She is survived by four sons, Steve Holifield of McDonough, Ga., Lucky Holifield of Laurel, Lewis Holifield and his wife, Sandy, of Laurel, and Tommy Holifield and his wife, Sissy, of Opelika, Ala.; two sisters, Essie Lee of Ellisville and Rhoda Waldrip of Stockbridge, Ga.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
