Bobby L. Shoemaker

Bobby L. Shoemaker, 54, of Bay Springs, lost his battle with lung cancer, Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Bay Springs United Methodist Church.

He was an attorney in Bay Springs for 30 years. He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with degrees in history and political science in 1974. He graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1977 where he was president of Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity. He was a member of the University of Southern Mississippi Alumni Association for over 27 years. He served as County Attorney from 1980-84. He was Jasper County Youth Court Referee for 23 years. He was a certified mediator with the National Association of Conflict Resolution. He was active in many civic organizations and served as president of Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce. He was a faithful member of Bay Springs United Methodist Church where he served as treasurer of Methodist Men. He was also instrumental in the founding of the Children’s Bus Ministry. He touched the lives of many individuals and is deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dewey O. Shoemaker and a sister, Sylvia Ann Shoemaker.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lillous Alexander Shoemaker; a son, Bobby Barr Shoemaker of Oxford; three daughters, Megan S. Bensley and husband Sean Bensley of Oak Grove; Lillous Ann Shoemaker of Bay Springs and Joanna Ophelia Shoemaker of Bay Springs; two grandsons, Sean Brighton Bensley and Campbell Parkes Bensley, both of Oak Grove; his mother, Doris A. Shoemaker; brothers, O’Farrell Shoemaker and wife, Melanie, and Larry Shoemaker and wife, Cheryl.

Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Bay Springs is in charge of arrangements.

David Earl Campbell

David Earl Campbell, 54, of Ellisville, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006 after a long illness at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel.

Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with burial in Sunset Gardens Cemetery.

He was a 1971 graduate of R.H. Watkins High School and a former employee of Howard Industries.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanette Campbell.

He is survived by his wife, Denise Campbell of Ellisville; parents, Malcolm and Betty Campbell of Ellisville; sons and their spouses, John and Tera Campbell of Ellisville, Josh and Codi Campbell of Bay Springs; step-son Kevin Gatwood and wife, Crystal, of Southaven; step-daughter, Sabrina Peterson and husband, Robert, of Hattiesburg; sister, Mary C. Sheley of Brandon; brother, Scott Campbell and wife, Jan, of Houston, Texas; two step-brothers, Steve Walters and wife, Carol, of Ellisville, Mike Walters and wife, Jan, of Ellisville; step-sister, Diann Walters of Ellisville; four grandchildren and step-granddaughter, Kaylee.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Gatwood, Robert Peterson, Billy Quick, Terry Pate, Lester Smith and Joel Cook.

Visitation is today from 5-8 p.m. at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Ralph Victor Craven

Ralph Victor Craven, 69, of Collins, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at his residence.

Graveside services will be 3 p.m. today at Willow Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Rudolph Sims will officiate.

He was a retired road contractor and was a member of New Bethany Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Myrtle Magnus Craven; first wife, Shirley Abercrombie Craven; second wife, Debra Simpson Craven; two brothers, Doyle and Jack Craven, and sister, Audrey Boykin.

He is survived by four sons, Michael Craven of Collins, Hershell D. Craven and Shane Craven, both of Seminary, and Brian Craven of Laurel; daughter, Thalia Roxanne Galvan of Mt. Olive; brother, Robert Craven of Big Creek; four sisters, Dorothy Cagle and Helen Yates, both of Collins, Sharron Taylor of Raleigh, and Sue Grantham of Pace, Fla.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

John B. Davis

John B. “Junior” Davis, 81, of Laurel, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Lebanon Baptist Church in Jones County with burial in the church cemetery. The Revs. Johnathan McLemore, Dallas Hickey, Eugene Murphy, Harold Floyd and Aaron Maxwell will officiate.

He retired from Masonite Corp. after 48 years of service and was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church. He enjoyed working in his garden and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Buford and Rea Davis; five sisters, Lillie Rea Cooley, Vina Duck, Stella Harrison, Phronia Walters and Dago Cooley; and a daughter-in-law, Cindy Davis.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alene “Cat” Jefcoat Davis of Laurel; a son, Johnny Davis of Laurel; a daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Charles McLemore of Laurel; grandchildren and their spouses, Maria and Dallas Hickey, Johnathan and Cannie McLemore, Josh Davis and Aaron and Karen Davis; six great-grandchildren, Kiersten Hickey, Malachi Hickey, Josiah Hickey, Maciah Hickey, Michael Davis and Carmen Ainsworth; a sister, Geraldine Pitts of Laurel; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Stanley Jefcoat, Billy Ray Mauldin, Donald Davis, Mike Hayes, Homer Cooley, Freddie Strickland, Ricky Bynum and Roger Jefcoat. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Burkes, James Jones, Jimmy Temple, Larry Jefcoat, Ruben Bryant, Preston Roney, George Harper and Dennis Hill.

Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. today, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel which is in charge of arrangements.

Perry Grant Kelley

Perry Grant Kelley, 33, of Bay Springs, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, with burial in Sharon Cemetery in Jones County. The Revs. Kevin Bishop and Buddy Jennings will officiate.

He was a poultry producer.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Oren D. Kelley; maternal grandfather, the Rev. J.C. Lampkin; and maternal grandmother, Helen Arrington.

He is survived by his parents, Grant and Sherry Kelley of Stringer; daughters, Ariel Kelley and Lexie Lewis Kelley, both of Bay Springs; fiancée, Dina Lewis of Bay Springs; a sister, Daphne Manning of Stringer; paternal grandmother, Gladys Kelley of Stringer; and maternal grandfather, Jack Arrington of Wrens, Ga.

Walid T. Damlouji

Walid T. Damlouji, 76, of Laurel, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, at Regency Hospital in Hattiesburg.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Laurel, with burial in Lake Park Hills Cemetery in Laurel. Michael Thornton will officiate.

Affectionately known at “Wally” to his many friends, he was a longtime resident of Laurel and a friend to all he met. He was born Feb. 17, 1930, in Mosul, Iraq, and grew up in Baghdad. He came to the United States to attend Kansas State University where he graduated with a mechanical engineering degree and became a naturalized citizen. While attending college he met his wife of 55 years, Janelle.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Laurel where was deeply involved until his death. He was a fourth degree Knights of Columbus. He has been in the food service industry for more than 40 years and, after moving to Laurel in 1961, founded Mid-South Industries which later became ThermoKool Walk-in Manufacturing. He later sold that business and started a manufacturers’ representative firm, W.T.D. Associated, that still operates today. He remained active in his business and was an avid stamp collector until his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Col. T.S. and Miriam Damlouji, and a sister, Nuthar Umary.

His is survived by his wife, Janelle Brittain Damlouji of Laurel; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Jameel and Gerry Damlouji of Shreveport, La., Mark Damlouji of Gulfport and Paul Damlouji of New Orleans; a daughter and son-in-law, Janine Damlouji Knibbs and Robert Knibbs of Vancleave; three sisters, Suha Al Rawi, Maha Orfali and Huda Sharief; and two granddaughters, Danielle Kamlouji and Layne Kidd.

Pallbearers will be the Knights of Columbus.

Rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 833 W. Sixth Street, Laurel, Ms. 39440, The Animal Rescue League, P.O. Box 2671, Laurel, Ms. 39442 or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Visitation will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, which is in charge of arrangements.

Joe P. Jefcoat

Joe P. Jefcoat, 78, of Quitman, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2006 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Wright’s Funeral Home in Quitman, with burial in Archusa Memorial Gardens in Quitman. The Rev. Grady Crowell will officiate.

Bertha Jean Buckley

Bertha Jean Buckley, 67, of Bay Springs, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at Nazareth Missionary Baptist Church in Bay Springs, with burial in the church cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cal and Bertha Agee, and a daughter, Jacqueline Buckley.

She is survived by her husband, Calvin Buckley of Bay Springs; a brother, Willie Agee of Bay Springs; and a sister, Mandy Lynn Keys of Bay Springs.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, at Young’s Funeral Home in Taylorsville, which is in charge of arrangements.

Willie Julius Bonner

Willie Julius Bonner, 59, of Heidelberg, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, at Triumph the Church and Kingdom of God in Christ Church in Vossburg, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Prince Charlie George will officiate.

He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Julius Bonner, and his daughter, Lisa Lawson.

He is survived by his mother, Maudie Bonner of Vossburg; a son, Alane Lawson of New Orleans, La.; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Agnes and Frank Bridges and Pamela and Allen Thomas, all of Picayune, Malykka and Kendale Bonner of Waynesboro, Deanna and Dennis Brown of Louisville, Ky., and Titianna Bonner of Hattiesburg; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Lonnie and Jerlene Bonner, Mack and Shirley Bonner and Terry and Cynthia Bonner, all of Vossburg; a sister and brother-in-law, Marcella Leggett and George Leggett Sr. of Vossburg; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. today, at Triumph the Church and Kingdom of God In Christ Church in Vossburg.

Brown Mortuary Inc. in Laurel is in charge of arrangements.
