Billy Ray Landingham - Services for Billy Ray Landingham, 61, of Kosciusko were held Friday at 11 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church with burial in the Kosciusko City Cemetery.

Landingham, a native of Attala County, died Feb. 13, 2001 at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.

He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his mother, Katie Dickens of Kosciusko; a daughter, Bridget Landingham of Milwaukee, Wis.; two sons, Barron landingham of Denver, Col., and Cedric Carr of Kosciusko; a sister, Barbara Landingham of Chicago, Ill.; a brother, Lawrence Landingham of Inkster, Mich.

The Rev. Victoria Sizemore Tandy officiated.

Pallbearers were Jeffrey Jackson, Terry Johnson, Barron Landingham, John Louie, Billy McAfee, Rio Winters and Henry McArthur Kimbrough.

Myricks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ronnie J. Myers - Services for Ronnie J. Myers, 51, of Kosciusko were held Monday at 11 a.m. at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Parkway Cemetery.

Myers, a truck driver for IMC Webb Graphics, died Feb. 16, 2001 at the G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam from December 1967 to April 1973.

During his tour he was awarded three Bronze Service Stars, an Air Medal Marksman Rifle award, three Purple Hearts and four D/S bars.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Myers of Kosciusko; two daughters, Charlene Palmertree and Darlene Overstreet of Winona; his mother, Margie Myers of Kosciusko; two brothers, Delane Myers of Spokane, Wash., and Steve Myers of Madison; three grandchildren.

The Rev. Don Ray officiated.

Pallbearers were George Brunt, Rickie Edwards, Boyd Ramage, James Ramage Jr., Terry Culpepper, Tim Nowell, Austin Edwards, and Troy Steed.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Dr. John W. Pender - Attala County native Dr. John William Pender, 88, died Feb. 18, 2001 in Placerville, Calif.

Dr. Pender, known as "Billy Boy" to Kosciusko residents, was born in the Hesterville Community in 1912.

He practiced medicine in Mississippi from 1937 to 1940, and later went on to become medical partner as an assistant professor of anesthesia at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
From there he went to the Palo Alto Medical Clinic in 1954 and practiced there until 1982.

His medical practice spanned 48 years.

He received his B.S. degree from the University of Mississippi in 1933 and his medical degree from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1935.

Dr. Pender was a deeply respected pioneer in his medical specialty of anesthesiology.

He provided an anesthetic for President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1944 when he was only 31 years old.

In 1977, he was honored by Stanford University as the First Clinical professor Emeritus of Anesthesia.

His wife, Catherine Theresa McCaffery Pender, preceded him in death in 1994.

He is survived by six children, John W. Pender Jr. of New Orleans, Dr. Mary Pender Jacobson of Chapel Hill, N.C., Jane Wheeler of Santa Clara, Calif., Charles Pender of Capitala, Calif., Dr. Sarah Pender of Placerville, Calif., Louise Pender of Osaka, Japan; nine grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Robert Hardison of Kosciusko.

Graveside services will be held at New Salem Cemetery in Attala County.

Blanche J. Wallace - Services for Mrs. Blanche Jamison Wallace, 90, Attala County were held Feb. 13 at noon at the Center Church of God.

Burial was in Patterson Cemetery.

Mrs. Wallace, a retired teacher, died Feb. 8, 2001 at the Baptist Medical Center in Jackson following an illness of several days.

She was a native of Attala County and a member of the Center Church of God.

She is survived by daughters, Mrs. Ethel Odom and Mrs. Wilean Burt of Kosciusko; three sons, Samuel Wallace of Milwaukee, Wis., Austin Wallace, Solomon Wallace of Kosciusko; a sister, Bernadine Brister of Detroit, Mich.; two brothers, Eudell Jamison and Daniel Jamison of Milwaukee; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Charles Hardy officiated with Winters Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Donald Evans

Graveside services for Donald Evans, 87, of Kosciusko, formerly of Ethel, were held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Stonewall Cemetery near Ethel.
Evans, a native of Leake County, died July 23, 2001 at the Attala County Nursing Center.

He was a retired truck driver and a member of the Ethel United Methodist Church.

Evans, widower of Wilbur Carter Evans, had no immediate survivors.

The Rev. Bryd Hillman officiated with Nowell Funeral Home handling arrangements.

Willie J. Gatlin

Services for Willie J. Gatlin, 84, of Ackerman were held Friday at 10 a.m. at Ackerman Methodist Church with burial in Mt. Airy Methodist Cemetery.

The Rev. Sam Dodd officiated with Nowell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

He died July 18, 2001 at his residence. He was a member of Ackerman United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Isabel Gatlin of Ackerman; two sons, Ben Gatlin and Gerald Gatlin, both of Ackerman; a daughter, Mary Davis of Smithville; a sister, Evelyn Malloy of Memphis; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Richard E. Jordan Jr.

Richard E. Jordan Jr., 58, of Clinton died July 21, 2001 at his home.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home.

Burial was in the Jordan Family Cemetery in Carthage.

Jordan, a native of Kosciusko, was the son of Richard and Mary Dorothy Jordan.

He was a long time resident of Clinton.

He retired in 1990 from the Illinois Central Railroad where he was employed as a brakeman.

He was a member of the United Transportation Union and the Thomastown Christian Church, a community he was extremely fond of.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Miller Jordan of Clinton; his mother, Dorothy Arnold Jordan of Thomastown; sons, Bill Jordan of Brandon, Randy Jordan of Clinton; daughter, Pam Johnson of Stonewall; grandchildren, Christopher Jordan, Kenneth Jordan, Bailey Hutchison.

Memorials may be made to the Thomastown Christian Church, Thomastown, Miss., or the Jordan family Cemetery Fund, Carthage, Miss.

Houston C. Kyzer

Services for Houston C. Kyzer, 65, of Durant were held Friday at 11 a.m. at Southern Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Mizpah Cemetery.
Kyzer, retired fire chief for the City of Durant, died July 18, 2001 at his residence.

He is survived by his mother, Dollie Kyzer of Durant; a son, Mark Wellman of Durant; a brother, Ross Kyzer of Durant; a sister, Jane Blackmon of Carrollton; a number of nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Willie Bishop officiated.

Pallbearers were Jerry Bankhead, Howard Harris, Al Jobe, Andy Ledbetter, Kerry Ellington and Sonny McCrory.

Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Toten, Don Buchanan and Charles Hudson.

Memorials may be made to the Firefighters Association.

Mildred McNair

Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred McNair, 87, of Carthage were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Singleton United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Mrs. McNair, a native of Leake County, died July 20, 2001 at her residence.

She was the former owner of McNair\'s Grocery.

She was a member of the Singleton United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Joe McNair of Carthage; a son, Dwain McNair of Carthage; a sister, Bernadine Scarborough of Carthage; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Jeff Morrison and the Rev. Chris Turner officiated.

Mary Lavenia Baldy

Services for Mrs. Mary Lavenia Baldy, 79, of Kosciusko were held Jan. 31 at 11 a.m. at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Parkway Cemetery.

Mrs. Baldy died Jan. 29, 2002 at the Vicksburg Convalescent Home.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Baldy; daughter, Norma Goad and son-in-law, Edwin Goad Sr. of Paris, Tenn.; grandchildren, Edwin Goad Jr., Robert L. Goad and Michael Goad; five great-grandchildren, Mary Goad, Larry Goad, Megan Goad, Joshua Goad, Jason Goad.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Read McLemore.
