Joe Noe Jr.

CLARKSDALE — Joe Noe Jr., 76, a farmer, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at Kosciusko Veterans Home.

Visitation was held 6-8 p.m. Thursday with rosary beginning at 7:30 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Clarksdale. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today at the church with burial at Oakridge Cemetery.

Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale is handling the arrangements.

He also leaves many nieces and nephews and friends who fondly referred to him as “Uncle Joe.”

He was a Navy veteran and proudly served his country.

He loved his God and his church and was involved in many ways. For many years, he was an usher and choir member, was involved in the St. Elizabeth Parish Fair, was past president of the Parish Council and worked on the church building committee, the school building committee and many benefit projects.

He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was active in the community as well, having served on the Board of Covenant Bank and instrumented its formation. He was a board member of North Delta Compress and the Farm Bureau and was an FSA committee member.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Noe Sr. and Margie Mangialardi Noe; and three sisters, Louise Noe Rauch, Rosalie Noe Jackson and Marie Noe Walton.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Bobby Jean Balducci Noe of Clarksdale; son, Joe Noe III (Robin) of Clarksdale; three daughters, Angela Kestenbaum (Pete) of Madison, Reneé Turner (Mike) of Vicksburg and Judith Martin (Russell) of Greenwood; brother, Richard Noe of Clarksdale; six sisters, Helen Noe Tuminello, Elizabeth Noe Malatesta, Ramona Noe Young and Agnes Noe Sherman, all of Clarksdale, Gloria Noe Stewart of Batesville and Nancy Noe Frazier of Greenville; eight grandchildren, Peter Vincent, Sara Jean Turner, Clara Grace Turner, Clayton Martin, Camryn Kestenbaum, Joseph Noe, Robert Noe and Caroline Noe.

Memorials may be sent to St. Elizabeth Catholic School, Clarksdale, MS or the Alzheimer’s Association, Mississippi Chapter, Jackson, MS.

Perry Jean Austin

ROLLING FORK — Perry Jean Austin, formerly of Rolling Fork, died Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at her home in Chicago. She was 62.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Guiding Star M.B. Church in Cary with Pastor Timothy Matthews officiating. Burial will follow at Green Chapel Cemetery in Rolling Fork. Visitation will be from 4 until 5 tonight at Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.

Dorothy Jean Williams Flowers

ROLLING FORK — Dorothy Jean Williams Flowers, 77, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, in Greenwood.

Mrs. Flowers was born in Hollandale on Feb. 6, 1932, to the late A.T. and Beulah Mae Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar A. Flowers.

Mrs. Flowers was a retired day-care operator. She loved her family, her church and flower gardening.

She is survived by her sons and their wives, Eddie (Angie) Flowers of Greenwood, Richard (Jennifer) Flowers of Huntsville, Texas, Rodney “Boo” (Nancy) Flowers of Pontotoc and Michael (Diane) Flowers of Tupelo; a sister, Glynn Smith and husband Robert; grandchildren, Kimberly Hooker, Allen Flowers, Julie Flowers, Meagan Rae Mitchell, Mary Britton Mitchell, Jay Mitchell, Leslie Wiggins, Meghan Flowers, Chad Flowers, Reid Flowers, Emily Flowers, Truett Flowers, Kaitlin Flowers and Eli Flowers; and great-grandchildren, Win Hooker, Anna Margaret Hooker, Belton Walker, Elliott Flowers and Logue Flowers.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 12:30 until 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Rolling Fork. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Mound Cemetery in Rolling Fork under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home of Rolling Fork.

Pallbearers will be Allen Flowers, Chad Flowers, Truett Flowers, Reid Flowers, Jay Mitchell and Ed Hooker.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmie Dick Carter, Lawrence Carter, Ike Collins, Jimmy Walker, John Abney, Robert McAffey, Thad Virden, Dr. Danny Jackson, Dr. Henry Flautt and Dr. Aca Bennett with special recognition to the many children that Mrs. Flowers kept in her home throughout the years who blessed her life.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Baptist Children’s Village, P.O. Box 27, Clinton, MS 39060-0027 or to First Baptist Church of Rolling Fork.

Lee Anna Wells

Lee Anna Wells died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at River Region Medical Center. She was 80.

Mrs. Wells was born in Claiborne County. She was a retired cook who had worked at Maxwell’s Restaurant, and was of the Church of Christ faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, D.C. and Carrie Thomas James; husband, Willie Wells Sr.; a son, Lamon Wells; and four sisters, Alberta James, Mattie James Daniels, Goldie James and Irene J. Strong.

She is survived by two sons, Willie Wells Jr. of Vicksburg and Lorenzo Dan Wells of Los Angeles; four daughters, Daisy Wells, Delores Wells Tate and Mildred Wells, all of Vicksburg, and Gracie J. Holmes of Detroit; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Fielding D. Tucker

NATCHEZ — Funeral services for Fielding D. Tucker, 84, of Natchez, who passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at Natchez Community Hospital will be at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Vidalia, La., with Father George Pookkattu officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg under the direction of Laird Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10 until services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Fielding was born April 28, 1925, in Vicksburg, the son of Henry Thomas Tucker and Katherine Butler Tucker. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at age 18 and served two enlistments and was a recipient of the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, a Presidential Citation for the Battle of the Bulge and other decorations. Fielding was first stationed in Africa, where he trained for the invasion of Italy. He then deployed to Italy with the 7th Army, and participated in the liberation of Rome and numerous other battles before deploying to France and participating in the D-Day invasion, Battle of the Bulge and battles throughout many villages of France.

During numerous returns to the Alsace region of France, Fielding rekindled friendships with WWII French veterans and relatives of veterans and worked with them to dedicate monuments to American soldiers who lost their lives during the liberation of France.

Wordl War II Veteran Fielding Tucker was recently named “Chevalier” (Knight) of the Legion of Honor by the President of France. The Legion d’honneur is a French order established by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802 to acknowledge services rendered by persons of great merit. The Order is highest decoration in France.

Fielding made numerous contributions to literary organizations to honor memories of World War II comrades. “Promise Made-Promise Kept,” one of several Fielding Tucker World War II memoirs, is featured on the CNN sponsored Web site memoriesofwar.com. Fielding provided his memoirs of World War II to HBO for use in connection with the Band of Brothers Living Memorial and also provided World War II letters signed with his nickname “Snippy” for inclusion in “World War II Letters,” a book being edited for Walter Cronkite.

Fielding retired as Production Superintendent of Natchez Democrat after 32 years of service. He was a devout member of Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church in Vidalia.

He and his war records and honors had been featured numerous times in The Vicksburg Post.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Theresa Tucker; very special friend, Helen Roberts; one brother, Butler Tucker; one sister, Tee Roberts; and one great-grandchild, John Casey Ashley.

Survivors include one sister, Elsie Hossley of Vicksburg; five daughters, Kathy D’Antoni and husband Paul, and Mary Ann Eagle, all of Lake Charles, La., Diana Hinson, Becky Ferguson and husband Jeff, all of Vidalia, and Janie Reyes and husband Roy of Ferriday, La.; three sons, Tony Tucker and wife Mary Kay of Lake Charles, Ed Tucker and wife Marie of Natchez and Danny Tucker and wife Donna of Pollock, La.; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David D’Antoni, Stephen Tucker, Roy Reyes, Michael Ferguson, Philip Tucker, Anthony Tucker and Brandon Eagle.

Honorary pallbearers are Brian Tucker, Jeffrey Ferguson, Levi Reyes, Joseph Tucker, John D’Antoni and Ryan Eagle.

Homer Lafayette Flournoy, Jr.

(March 9, 1938 - September 12, 2011)

Services for Homer Lafayette Flournoy, Jr., 73, of Natchez, who went to be with the Lord on Monday Sept. 12, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, Sept. 15, at St. Mary Basilica with Father David O’Connor officiating. Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday at St. Mary Basilica.

Homer was born March 9, 1938 in Natchez, the son of Homer Lafayette Flournoy, Sr. and Emma Beneditine Flournoy. He was a member of St. Mary Basilica and the Quarter Century Club. He retired from International Paper Company after 43 years of service. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include three sisters; Betty Shannon of Natchez, Mary Helen VanVlack of Ivanhoe, N.C., and Dorothy Strickland of Lake St. John, LA., one brother; James W. Flournoy of Natchez, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be members of the family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to St. Mary Basilica or a charity of your choice.

David L. Kunkle

(June 18, 1941 - September 13, 2011)

Funeral services for David L. “Dave” Kunkle, 70, of Natchez, MS who died Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Natchez Community Hospital, surrounded by his devoted family will be 11:00 am Friday, September 16, 2011, from Natchez First Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Broome officiating. Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011 and also from 10 am until the time of service Friday, at the church. Dave was born June 18, 1941, in Angola, Indiana. He was reared on a farm, attended Hamilton, Indiana public schools, was salutatorian of his 1959, high school graduating class, and was runner-up as the STAR Hoosier Farmer in 1959.

He was a graduate of Perdue University in Lafayette, Indiana with a Bachelor of Sciences in Agricultural Economics in 1963. Dave was a licensed Real Estate Broker in Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas and a member of the National Institute of Farm and Land Brokers, the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, Metropolitan Board of Realtors, a mason and member of First Baptist Church of Natchez since 1978. Early in his career Dave was employed as a Professional Farm and Ranch Manager, real estate appraiser and salesman with Doane Ag Services where he managed 35 farms and ranches in Missouri, Oklahoma and Arkansas totaling more than 19,000 acres.

In the early 1970’s he moved to Louisiana, purchased farm land and was a very successful farmer growing soybeans, rice and corn. There was nothing better Dave enjoyed more than “making a deal!” He would eventually organize and mastermind the building of Kunkle Seed Company which grew into a thriving business for 20 years. He was well known throughout the Miss-Lou area, and carried many farmers and helped them during “lean years”, by his caring and generous spirit. In May, 2000, the Kunkle Seed Company was sold, but not ready for retirement, he and his son David Edward drove the “big rigs” from the year 2000 until present, all across the southeast and parts beyond. He is preceded in death by his father Don Kunkle.

Survivors include his loving wife Charlotte, of 38 years; five children, David Edward Kunkle and wife Donna of Ferriday, Charlynn Kunkle Griffin and husband Clay of McCall Creek, Phillip Kunkle of Natchez, Karen Hightower and husband Gary of Midland, TX and Steve Pugh of Spokane, WA; his mother Laurene Kunkle of Indiana; two sisters, Judy Manahan and Beverly Knox , both of Angola, Indiana; one brother Ken Kunkle of Vidalia; eight grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews, countless friends who ministered to his family during his recent illness.

Special thanks to the members of the Wil Nolan Sunday School class of First Baptist church that lovingly and faithfully ministered to the Kunkle Family during this difficult journey in their lives. He will be missed and loved always ! Pallbearers will be Willard Kassel, Wil Nolan, Gene Perkins, Lee Thomas, Charles Stephens, and Tim Welch. Honorary Pallbearers will be men of the Co-Ed Sunday School Class that Dave and Charlotte were members of for 33 years. Memorials may be made to Natchez First Baptist Church, The Gideon Bible Association, or a charity of choice.
