Audene Armstrong

Funeral services for Mrs. Audene Armstrong, 79, of Kosciusko were held Friday at 2 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Parkway Cemetery.

Mrs. Armstrong, a seamstress, died Sept. 18, 2002 at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital.

She was a member of First Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Glenda Ables of Kosciusko and Shirley Hooks of Jackson; two sons, Glenn Armstrong of Jackson and Charles Nash of Kosciusko; a brother, Elon Nash of Austin, Texas; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Bobby Oakes officiated.

Pallbearers were Will Atwood, Craig Moudy, Butch Nash, Danny Nash, Larry Armstrong, and Randy Armstrong.

Akavion Broadnax

Graveside services for infant Akavion Broadnax of Holmes County were held Monday at 2 p.m. at Smyrna Cemetery near West.

The infant was born Aug. 7, 2002 and died Sept. 20, 2002 at University Hospital-Lexington.

Survivors are father, Anthony Leroy Broadnax; mother, Francis A. Erving; grandparents, Debbie Cook and Mr. and Mrs. Van Erving.

Deacon Marshall Felton officiated with Winters Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Gracie Lee Adams Foster

Funeral services for Mrs. Gracie Lee Adams Foster, 96, of Canton were held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Parkway Cemetery.

Mrs. Foster died Sept. 19, 2002 at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital.

She was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church in Canton and a former member of the Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by two sons, James C. "Jimmy" Foster of Kosciusko and Carlton P. Foster of Starkville; three grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Gregory Bryant and the Rev. J.N. Dillon officiated.

Serving as pallbearers were Tommy Foster, Jamie Foster, Barry Foster, Carl Foster, Eddie Warren and Dave Ballard Jr.

Reba A. Sanders Junkins

Services for Mrs. Reba Audrey Sanders Junkins, 91, of Jackson were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Nile Church of Christ Cemetery.

Mrs. Junkins died Sept. 23, 2002 at River Oaks Hospital in Jackson.

She is survived by a daughter, Dorreece B. Faulkner of Jackson; a son, James Junkins of Sacramento, Calif.; five grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Jerry A. Keen

Services for Jerry A. Keen, 54, of West were to be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at Culpepper Funeral Home Chapel.

Keen, a native of Attala County, died Sept. 24, 2002 at his residence.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Devine Keen; a son, Johnny Hood of West; a daughter, Angela Engle of Kosciusko; a brother, J.T. Keen of Durant; three sisters, Maggie Burrell, Dorothy Burrell and Clara Blackstock, all of Durant; four grandchildren.

The Rev. Willie Bishop was to officiate.

Burial was to be in North Union Cemetery.

Lurline Sumrall Lee

Lurline Sumrall Lee, 76, of Boyle died Sept. 20, 2002 at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville.

Funeral services were held Monday at 11 a.m. at Ray Funeral Home in Cleveland.

Mrs. Lee, a native of Scott County, was the daughter of John Wesley and Viola Frances Walker Sumrall.

She is survived by three daughters, Sandra Lee Dixon of Kosciusko, Linda Lee Mason of Tallulah, La., and Brenda Lee Gary of Greenville; a brother, W.J. Sumrall of Cleveland; a sister, Ethel Wood of Laurel; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lee; a brother, Delbert Hooper Sumrall; a sister, Frances Sumrall Hughes, and her parents.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church of Cleveland or the Lupus Foundation.

Imogene K. McKnight

Services for Mrs. Imogene K. McKnight, 74, of Weir were held Tuesday at noon at Nowell Funeral Home Chapel in Ackerman.
Burial was in South Union Methodist Church Cemetery.

She died Sept. 22, 2002 at Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville. She was a native of Choctaw County, a member of New Zion Baptist Church.

She is survived by four sons, Donald McKnight of Ackerman, Dale McKnight, Jackie McKnight and Jimmie McKnight of Weir; a daughter, Linda Baxter of Weir; three brothers, Edward King of Ackerman, Ralph King of Lambert, Wayne King of Weir; two sisters, Gloria King and Montez Reece of Weir; 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Loran McKnight, and a son, Dennis McKnight.

Pallbearers were Robbie McKnight, Jeff McKnight, Chris McKnight, Ray McKnight, Brenton McKnight, Kevin Keith, Roger McKnight, Bobby McKnight and Tony Higgins.

Memorials may be made to New Zion Baptist Church at Weir.

Otho E. Pettit

Otho E. Pettit, 93, died Sept. 24, 2002 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Kosciusko. Services were to be held today (Thursday) at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel.
Pettit was a lifelong resident of Attala County. He graduated from Attala County Agricultural High School at McAdams where he was a stellar athlete in basketball, track, and football. His senior year he was named to the All-State football team as a running back.

He married Sue Oliver in 1934. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and in 1945 began working in the oil and gas distributorship business with Cities Service Oil Co. He continued to work with this company (later named Citgo) until his retirement in 1993. For most of those years he was the distributor for the Kosciusko area. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kosciusko for 64 years.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sue Oliver Pettit; his children, Patsy Jordan and her husband, David, of Jackson, Otho "Bubba" Pettit and his wife, Gail, of Kosciusko; three grandchildren, Paxton Pettit, Hart Pettit of Kosciusko, Jennifer Adams and her husband, Bill, of Brandon; a great-grandson, Oliver Adams; and a sister, Catherine Dye of Fort Worth, Texas.

Pallbearers were to be Paxton Pettit, Hart Pettit, Bill Adams, Owen Oliver, John Pettit and Jerry Pettit.

The Rev. Barry C. Corbett will officiate.

Burial will be in the Kosciusko City Cemetery.

Sadie Waggoner Pope

Services for Mrs. Sadie Waggoner Pope, 93, of Canton were held Monday at 2 p.m. at Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel in Carthage. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery.
Mrs. Pope, a retired grocery store owner, died Sept. 21, 2002 at Madison County Nursing Home in Canton. She was a member of Pickens United Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by two daughters, Emily Young of Madison and Mary Jane Sampson of Bend, Oregon; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was the widow of John P. Pope

The Rev. Harry Hawkins and the Rev. Billy Cooper officiated. Culpepper Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Pallbearers were David Young, Brad Young, Sam Jones, David Williams, Tommy Jones and Richard Turnipseed.

Merle M. Raridon Sr.

Services for Merle M. Raridon Sr., 85, of Kosciusko were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with burial in Edgefield Cemetery.
Raridon, a retired banker with Merchants & Farmers Bank, died Sept. 21, 2002 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. He was a native of Iowa. He was a member of First Baptist Church, the Gideons, VFW, American Legion Post 44 and was active for a number of years in the Lions Club, Jaycees and Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Republican National Committee since 1982, was a member of the Republican Presidential Task Force founded by President Ronald Regan and was honored with a lifetime membership.

He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Ida Lee Simmons Raridon; a son, Mel Raridon Jr.; a daughter, Barbara Manning, all of Kosciusko; five half brothers and sisters.

The Rev. Barry Corbett officiated with Culpepper Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Bill Roberts Sr., Wade Simmons, Tim Deason, Hollis Smith, James L. Cole and Larry Simmons.
