James L. Sanders

Services for James L. "Stubby" Sanders, 68, of Kosciusko were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial was in Parkway Cemetery.

Sanders, retired owner and operator of Sanders Ambulance Service from 1974 to 1984, died Sept. 18, 2002 at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital following a long illness.

He was a member of Second Baptist Church, an honorary Deputy Sheriff of Attala County, a member of the Kosciusko Shriners Chapter.

He had served as an Emergency Medical Technician since 1974.

He was responsible for bringing the first set of Jaws of Life to Attala County.

He helped form the first softball league for teenage girls in Kosciusko.

He spent a number of years as a driller for Rowan Drilling Company and a sheet metal fabricator at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula.

Sanders, a native of Attala County was the son of the late Johnnie Lavelle and Mamie Dell Sanders of Attala County.

He is survived by his wife, Hilda Frazier Sanders of Kosciusko; two daughters, Vicky Sanders Abel of Kosciusko and Rita Sanders Bennett of Philadelphia; a son, James Lamar "Jimmy "Sanders of Pascagoula; four granddaughters, Ashley Shea White of Philadelphia, Amanda Carol DuBard of Kosciusko, Amye Dell Campbell of Kosciusko, Brittani Anea Coleman of Starkville; three great-grandsons, Brandon Scott Crowson of Philadelphia, Hayden Micheal Burns of Kosciusko, and Nicholas Cash White of Philadelphia; one step-great-grandson, Chance Tyler White of Philadelphia; two sisters, Mary Margaret O'Neal of Gulf Breeze, Fla. and Nell Puckett of Jackson; two brothers, Billy Lavelle Sanders of Gautier, and David L. Sanders of Pascagoula.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Shirley Laverne Sanders of Attala County, four brothers, Louie Fletcher Sanders of French Camp, Barney Dell Sanders, George Earl Sanders and James Donald Sanders all of Vicksburg.

His nephew, the Rev. Charles Fisher of Wharton, Texas, officiated.

Nephews serving as pallbearers were Daniel Fisher, James Frazier, Michael Frazier, Butch McGlothin, Galen Sanders and Randy Sanders.

Charles Williams Akins

Services for Charles Williams Akins, 60, of Kosciusko were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Myricks Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Mt. Pilgrim Cemetery at McCool.

Akins, a native of Attala County, died Dec. 3, 2002 at his residence.

He was a member of Mt. Pilgrim M.B. Church.

He is survived by two sisters, Willie L. Akins of Kosciusko and Gracie Hill of Detroit, Mich.; four brothers, Howard Akins and Scott Akins of Chicago, Ill., Lawrence Akins of Houston, Texas, and Hunter Akins of San Francisco, Calif.; a niece, Bridget Akins of Kosciusko.

Pastor Tom Alexander officiated.

Lorraine Cameron Anderson

Services for Mrs. Lorraine Cameron Anderson, 71, of Kosciusko were held Monday at 2 p.m. at Christian Liberty M.B. Church with burial in Tribulation Cemetery at Carthage.

Mrs. Anderson, a retired hospital administrator, died Dec. 4, 2002 at St. Dominic Medical Center in Jackson.

She was a member of AKA Sorority, Beta Pi Sigma Sorority, Business and Professional Women's Organization, NAACP, Lower Elementary reading program, Excelsior Alumni, and served on the focus board of Merchants & Farmers Bank.

She was also a volunteer at the information center.

She was a member of Christian Liberty M.B. Church.

She is survived by her husband, John A. Anderson of Kosciusko; a daughter, Natasha Jones of Kosciusko; a godson, Rev. Eric C. Dodd; a sister, Mrs. Barbara Julien and a brother, Ivory Cameron, both of Kosciusko; a son-in-law, Percy Whalen Jr.

Rev. Marvin K. Myles Sr. officiated with Winters Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Vida Mae Burrell

Services for Mrs. Vida Mae Burrell, 81, of Sallis were held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Seneasha United Methodist Church with burial in the Seneasha Cemetery.

Mrs. Burrell died Dec. 4, 2002 at the University Hospital Nursing Center in Durant.

She was a member of Seneasha United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Tommye McCrory Kirksey of Clinton; two sons, Kenneth Lane Burrell of New Orleans and James Earl Burrell of Trinity, Ala.; two sisters, Dorothy Mitchell of McAdams and Pat Collins of Savannah, Tenn.; two brothers, Ephraim Burrell and Bob Burrell of Goodman; a granddaughter, Tracy Brewster.

Rev. Walter Hughley and Rev. Luther Robertson officiated.

Serving as pallbearers were Bobby Burrell, Darrell Burrell, William E. Burrell Jr., Earl Mitchell Sr., Fred Collins and Ronnie Burden.

Memorials may be made to the Seneasha Cemetery Fund.

Jordan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jepth Grady Cutts

Services for Jepth Grady Cutts, 92, of Weir were held Friday at 11 a.m. at Nowell Funeral Home Chapel in Ackerman with burial in Fentress Cemetery.

Cutts, a native of Choctaw County, died Dec. 4, 2002 at his residence.

He was a retired farmer and a member of Fentress Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Cutts of Weir; three daughters, Martha Jo Phillips of Gulfport, Delois Hathorn of Louisville and Linda Newman of Fort Smith, Ark.; a brother, Richard Cutts of Weir; two sisters, Merra Oswalt of Sturgis and Iline McQuirter of Winona; four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; two step-daughters, Jean Faulkner of Brandon and Bonnie Sanders of Pearl.

Rev. Dewitt Cutts and Rev. Jerry Wise officiated.

Ethel Chism

Services for Mrs. Ethel Chism, 43, of Chicago, were held Dec. 4 at 1 p.m. at Travelers Rest M.B. Church with burial in Parkway Cemetery.

Mrs. Chism died Nov. 27, 2002 following an illness of several days.

She was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church in Omaha, Neb.

She is survived by her father and mother, James Kern and Elma Kern; three daughters, Leondra Coren Chism, Constina Cherole Chism and Jessica Lynn Chism; a brother, Ernest Alick of Omaha, Neb.

Rev. Cleotis Woods officiated with Winters Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Sammie Adams, Clarence Jackson, J.B. Kern, Wendell Pullum, Moses Lewis, Lawrence McDonald, and Charles Nash.

Juanita Kerr Howard

Services for Mrs. Juanita Kerr Howard, 77, of Weir were held Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Howard, a resident of Weir since 1947, was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.

She died Dec. 2, 2002 at the Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville.

She is survived by three daughters, Regina Weeks, Jan Braswell of Weir and Joy King of Greenville, S.C.; a son, W. Joe Howard of Morrow, Ga.; a brother, Bernice Kerr of Vicksburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, A.H. Howard Jr. and a son, Michael Kerr Howard.

Rev. Ralph Rodgers, Rev. Roy Hawkins and Rev. Dewitt Cutts officiated.

Pallbearers were Jeff Howard, Jeff Buturff, Gary Kerr, Paul Cravens, Mitch Sanders, Clyde Ferrell, David Kerr and Billy Joe Oswalt.

Jordan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Moriah Building Fund or French Camp Academy.

Dilcie Pearl Elmore Harmon

Services for Mrs. Dilcie Pearl Elmore Harmon, 70, of Kosciusko were held Friday at 2 p.m. at Myricks Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Parkway Cemetery.

Mrs. Harmon, a native of Attala County, died Dec. 1, 2002 at the Vaiden Community Living Center.

She was a member of the Church of Christ.

She is survived by her husband, Louis Harmon of Kosciusko; a daughter, Hazel Elmore of Chicago; three sons, Charles Elmore of Kosciusko, Louis Y. Harmon of French Camp, and Earnest Harmon of Chicago; four sisters, Nora F. Moore, Linda Faye Hatten of Kosciusko, Lessie Mae Patterson of Durant, and Leonia Thomas of Chicago; two brothers, J.E. Elmore and Donnie Elmore of Kosciusko; three grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.

Rev. Eric Dawkins officiated.

Pallbearers were Bo Patterson, Randy Jamison, Earl Brantley, Richard Harmon, Marshal Felton and Tyrone Jamison.

J.O. Keith

Services for J.O. Keith, 83, of Durant were held Monday at 2 p.m. at Bowlin Baptist Church with burial in the Bowlin Cemetery.

Keith retired from Airco Plastic, died Dec. 7, 2002 at his residence.

He was a native of Attala County and a member of Bowlin Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Lura K. Keith of Durant; sons, Edward Keith, Elbert Keith, Leonard Keith all of Sallis, Tommy Keith of Goodman, Calvin Keith of Jackson; daughters, Patsy K. Blaylock, Barbara K. Shelton, Kathy K. King and Sue K. Thornton, all of Durant; a brother, V.B. Keith of Sallis; 27 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Rev. Thomas Wicker and Rev. Daniel Blaylock officiated with Southern Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Rodger Cochran, Bo Cochran,. Tony Cochran, Lynn Keith, Randy Keith, Dennis Keith and Lewis Engle.
