James Franklin Hughes Jr.

Services for James Franklin "Jim" Hughes Jr., 48, of Lexington were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Lexington with burial in Oakland Cemetery.
Hughes, retired Lexington fire chief, died July 25, 2003 at the University Medical Center in Jackson. He was a native of New Orleans, a graduate of Central Holmes Academy and Holmes Community College and a member of the Lexington First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his mother, Pauline L. Hughes of Lexington; his fiance, Debra Brown of Lexington; a brother, Jefferson Lee Hughes of Pensacola, Fla.; a sister, Rachael Pauline Turri of Memphis.

Rev. Skipper Maxwell and Rev. Mike O'Brien officiated with Southern Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Bubber Carnathan, Dudley Farmer, Mike O'Brien, Derek Hodges, Len Ware Jr. and Jessie Joiner.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Lexington Volunteer Fire Dept., Lexington Police Dept., Doug Aldridge and Bob Gilfoy.

Patrick Alvin Jackson

Services for Patrick Alvin Jackson, 49, of Mozell were held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Ackerman Baptist Church with burial in Morgantown Baptist Church Cemetery near Sturgis.
He is survived by his parents, Marilyn Jackson of Ackerman and Glendell "Bob" Jackson of Sturgis; four brothers, Ed and Kevin , both of Seattle, Wash., Mike of Macon and Mark of Noxapater; three sisters, Carolyn of Mesa, Ariz., Aime of Toppenish, Wash., and Julie of Maben.

Nowell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Carolyn Armstrong McGehee
Services for Mrs. Carolyn Armstrong McGehee, 61, of the Carmack Community were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Culpepper Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. McGehee, a native of Attala County, died July 24, 2003 at the Methodist North Hospital in Memphis. She was a member of North Union Baptist Church, the Carmack Community Club and served as a volunteer with Helping Hands Ministries. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and had served as a past matron.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Z. McGehee of Carmack; three daughters, Paula Montgomery of Bartlett, Tenn., Pamela Vincent of Jacksonville, Fla., Emilee McGehee of Memphis; five brothers, Curtis "Mickey" Armstrong, T.A. Armstrong, Ronnie Armstrong, Kyle Armstrong all of Carmack, and Jerry Armstrong of Sallis; a sister, Fay Bingham of Carmack; three grandchildren.

Rev. Morris Jones officiated.

Burial was in North Union Cemetery.

Her five brothers and brother-in-law Barney Bingham served as pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to North Union Baptist Church Building Fund.

Infant Charles Michael Scholl

A private graveside service for Charles Michael Scholl, infant son of Brian and Catherine Ritter Scholl of Germantown, Tenn., were held at Parkway Cemetery.
The infant died July 27, 2003 at Methodist LeBonheur Hospital in Memphis.

In addition to parents, the infant is survived by his twin sister, Elizabeth Park Scholl; grandparents Charles W. "Tex" and Carolyn Ritter of Kosciusko, Carl and Mallory Scholl of Starkville; great-grandmother, Mrs. Jean Wyngaarden Zimmer of West Point; aunts, Sandy Scholl of New York, N.Y., and Shelley Ritter of Clarksdale.

The Rev. James Salter and Rev. Byrd Hillman officiated.

Jordan Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Homer A. Strickline

Services for Homer A. Strickline,74, of Philadelphia were held Monday at 10 a.m. at Nowell Funeral Home Chapel in Ackerman with burial in Fentress Baptist Cemetery.
Strickline, a native of Choctaw County, died July 25, 2003 at Rush Hospital in Meridian. He was a retired crane operator for General Motors.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Strickline of Philadelphia; a son, Randy Strickline of Olive Branch; daughter, Susan Hammendorp of Philadelphia; grandson, Turner Blaine of Philadelphia; brothers, Hubert Strickland, Billy Stricklin of Ackerman and Finley Stricklin of Brandon; a sister, Nellie Faye Mitchell of Jackson; half brother, Harvey Strickline of Midwest City, Okla.; half sisters, Priscilla Edwards of Eupora, Vickie McElroy of Hernando and Audry Steadman of Alabama.

Rev. Larry Ferris officiated.

Memorials may be made to Philadelphia First Church of the Nazarene Building Fund, 902 Blount St., Philadelphia, Miss. 39350.

Isabel Moss Thompson

Services for Mrs. Isabel Moss Thompson, 87, of Ackerman were held Friday at 10 a.m. at Ackerman United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Thompson, a native of Choctaw County, died July 22, 2003 at the Choctaw County Nursing Home. She was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Jackson. She was a retired adjudication clerk with the Veterans Administration.

She is survived by her husband, George W. Thompson Jr. of Ackerman; a daughter, Susan Kruss of Fremont, Neb.; three sisters, Erin Moss, Thelma Moss, Evelyn Moss, all of Ackerman; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Enon Cemetery with Nowell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to South Union Campground Fund.

J.R. Turner

Services for J.R. Turner, 45, of Milwaukee, Wis., were held Saturday at 11 a.m. at West M.B. Church with burial in the West Cemetery.
Turner, a bus and truck driver, died July 19, 2003 in Milwaukee. He was a native of West and a member of West M.B. Church.

He is survived by three daughters, Sherita, Melissa and Mariah; a son, Jarvis; eight sisters, Mae, Mildred, Nellie, Viola, Peggy, Felicia, Miranda and Baretta; seven brothers, Walter, Howard, Joe, Edward, Jessie, Sheldon and Marcus.

Rev. Edward Turner officiated with Winters Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

P.C. Carter

Graveside services for P.C. Carter,77, of Weir were held Friday at 11 a.m. at Shady Grove Cemetery.
Carter, a retired security guard, died July 28, 2003 at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo following an illness of several months. He was a native of Choctaw County and a member of Shady Grove M.B. Church.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Carter; a son, Leonard Carter; four grandchildren.

Rev. Simeon Johnson officiated with Winters Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Cleveland Edwards

Services for Cleveland Edwards, 75, of Kosciusko were held July 8 at 1 p. m. at Palestine M.B. Church with burial in Wright Cemetery in Leake County.
Edwards was a retired foreman at Block Plastic Co. in Chicago. He was also a former bus driver in the Attala County Schools and served as president of pastor aid and caretaker of grounds at Palestine Church. He died July 2, 2003 at the University Medical Center in Jackson following a brief illness. He was also a member of the singing group, the Carthage Jubilees and a deacon of Palestine M.B. Church.

He is survived by three daughters, Bernita Hirsach of Joliet, Ill., Gwendolyn Delois Hines of West Illinois and Pamela Clark of Kosciusko; a son, Terrence Edwards of Lorman; a brother, James Edwards of Kosciusko; a sister, Bessie Mae Peeler of Milwaukee; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers were Henry Kimbrough, William Kimbrough, Mark Harmon, Mack Allen, Willie Perteet and Dennie Clark.

Honorary pallbearers were Terrence Edwards, Antwain Perteet, Shawn League, Eric Hirsach Jr., Marion Hirsach and Brittie Webb.

Wesley Memorial Funeral Home of Carthage was in charge of arrangements.

George William Fleming

Funeral services for George William Fleming, 86, of Kosciusko were held July 31 at 11 a.m. at Christian Liberty M.B. Church with burial in Parkway Cemetery.
Fleming, a native of Holmes County, died July 24, 2003 at his residence following a long illness. He was a member of Christian Liberty M.B. Church.

He is survived by seven daughters, Iola, Katie Lee Fleming, Dorothy Coffee, Bobbie Ferguson, Sarah Hawthorne, Kathy Riley all of Kosciusko, Bonnie Harris of Holt, Mich.; five sons, G.W. and William Fleming of Kosciusko, George T. Saffold of Winona, John Henry Fleming of Chicago and John D. Riley of Mobile; a sister, Betty Mae Saffold of Maywood, Ill.; two brothers, Nora Fleming of Winona and Rebel Saffold of Waterloo, Iowa; 38 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Rev. Marvin K. Myles officiated with Myricks Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Harold Harris, Noah Coffee, Kerry Fleming, Lloyd Fleming, Marcus Coffee and Rebel Coffee.
