Annie Beatrice Hunt Morgan

Annie Beatrice Hunt Morgan, 87, of Madden died Feb. 20, 2003, at Hospice in His Hands in Madden.

Mrs. Morgan, a retired factory worker, was born in Choctaw County on Feb. 28,1915. She was a member of Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church in the Panhandle area. She was an avid quilt maker and gardener, and she loved to fish.

Survivors include one son, Wendell Morgan and his wife, Sue, of Weir; three grandchildren, Stacie Morgan, Gary Morgan and Connie Phillips; one sister, Norma J. Hunt of Meridian; two sisters-in-law, Annie Katheryn Hunt and Jeannette Hunt of McCool; and one brother-in-law, Johnny Turnipseed of Meridian. She also leaves 36 nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Morgan was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Morgan; and a son, Melvin.

Services were Feb. 22 at Nowell Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Roger Griffith and James Burrell officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Presbyterian Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hospice In His Hands, 242 Thaggard Road, Madden, MS 39109.

Ruben Earl Morgan

Ruben Earl Morgan, 63, of Starkville died Feb. 23, 2003, at Clay County Medical Center in West Point. He had been visiting family there.

Mr. Morgan, a lifelong resident of Oktibbeha County, was known and loved by many. After 45 years as a local merchant and friend, he currently served as coordinator of the drug treatment program for the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Mr. Morgan was chairman of the board for Paul's Home for Children in Sturgis. He was a lifelong member of the Jaycees, and was also a third-degree Mason and Shriner. He was a member and usher at Starkville Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Arick Morgan; two sons, Bill Morgan and his wife, Dawn, and Mike Arick Morgan and his wife, Alicia; one daughter Dr. Mona Castle and her husband, Alan; and seven grandchildren, Chandler Arick, Shannon Bingham, Carrie Shepherd, Jacob Castle, Shedd Castle, Morgan Castle and Sarah Castle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lois and Gladney Morgan; his sister, Elizabeth Angeline Starns; and by his brother, Alford Hill Morgan.

Services were Feb. 25 at Starkville Church of God with Rev. Steve McCullar and Dewayne Blackwell officiating. Burial was in Pheba Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the Starkville Church of God Building Fund.

Welch Funeral Home of Starkville was in charge of arrangements.

Annie Mae Vance

Annie Mae Vance, 88, of Atkins, Ark., and formerly of Maben, died Feb. 16, 2003, at Atkins Nursing Home.

Mrs. Vance, a homemaker, was born in Webster County on July 1,1914. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Maben.

Survivors include one son, Jessie Vance of Pottsville, Ark.; two grandchildren, John Vance of Bossier City, La., and Anthony Vance of Russellville, Ark.; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were Feb. 19 at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randle Poss officiating. Burial was in Vance Cemetery in Calhoun County.

Naomi Willis Ryals

Funeral services for Naomi Willis Ryals, 89, were held Oct. 28 at Porter Funeral Home with Dr. Charles Lloyd officiating. Interment followed at Plattsburg Baptist Cemetery in Louisville.

Born Nov. 24, 1912 in Neshoba County, Ryals was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She died at the Care Centere in Louisville on Oct. 27.

She is survived by one daughter, Caroline Cummins of Louisville; two sons, Howard Ryals and Roy T. Ryals both of Louisville; three sisters Hazel Johnson of Philadelphia, Dixie Jordan of Kosciusko, and Zudye Bell Smith of Philadelphia; one brother, Dr. Lester Willis of Ecru; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Porter Funeral Home of Louisville was in charge of arrangements.

Geneva Hill Burkes

Funeral services for Geneva Hill Burkes, 87, were held Oct. 30, 2002 at Nowell Funeral Home with Joyce Murphy and Kenneth Hall officiating. Interment followed at Fulton Cemetery in Winston County.

Born Sept. 5, 1915 in DeKalb, Burkes was a retired Assistant Dietician at the Tri-County Nursing Home.

She is survived by two daughters, Dot Knighton of Louisville and Gean huntley of Buckhead, GA; one son, Don Burkes of Dothan, AL; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband, Freeman Burkes and grandson Curtis Huntley.

Nowell Funeral Home of Louisville was in charge of arrangements.

Geneva Jones Lovvorn

Services for Geneva Jones Lovvorn, 77, of Sturgis, were held October 21, 2002 at Friendship Baptist Church in Sturgis, MS with Rev. Halton Davis, Jr. & Rev. Russell Mord officiating and interment in McClelland Cemetery.

Mrs. Lovvorn died October 18, 2002 at Oktibbeha County Hospital. She was a Homemaker and a Member of Sturgis Baptist Church.

Mrs. Lovvorn is survived by Daughter, Sandra Sanders of Ackerman; Son, Louis Jones of Sturgis; Sister, Lottie M. Files of Sturgis; Three brothers, Frank Jones and Fletcher Jones both of Sturgis; Willie C. Jones of Portage, Ind.; 6 Grandchildren and 3 Great-Grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Friendship Baptist Church Building Fund.

Edith Skelton Oliver

Services for Edith Skelton Oliver, 82, of Eupora, were held October 17, 2002 at Eupora First Baptist Church with burial in the Eupora City Cemetery.

Mrs. Oliver died October 14, 2002 at her home of congestive heart failure.

Mrs. Oliver was born August 26, 1920, to Spencer and Naomi Ruth Skelton and lived most of her life in Eupora. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Welty Oliver, Sr. Following World War II in 1947, the Olivers established Oliver Funeral Home, building the business together as they ministered to many families in and around the area.

Mrs. Oliver was an active member of First Baptist Church for more than 50 years, participating in WMU, teaching children's classes and singing in the choir for as long as she was able. She was also a former member of the Eastern Star and 20th Century Club.

"Miss Edith" was the matriarch of the Oliver Family and loved each and every one of them with her big heart. She is survived by her daughter, Amy Stephens and son-in-law Loye Stephens; son, Charles Welty "Charlie" Oliver Jr. and daughter-in-law Becky Oliver, all of Eupora; four grandchildren, Stephanie Stephens of Ridgeland, MS, Suzanne Stephens of Starkville, MS, Edie Oliver and Casey Oliver of Eupora; one great grandson, Collin Stephens of Ridgeland, MS; two sisters Pauline Boyd of Corinth, MS and Ruth Witherington of Bartlett, Tn. and two caregivers Martha Rogers and Ann Fondren of Eupora, MS

Memorials may be made to the Choir Fund or the Building Fund of the Eupora First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 268, Eupora, MS 39744.

Pallbearers: Pete Fortner, Charlie Ward, Jackie Savage, Clayton Allen, Jimmy Witherington, James Earl Oliver, Johnny Elkins, Don Steen.

Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora was in charge of arrangements.

Bessie M. Witcher

Services for Bessie M. Witcher, 85, of Ackerman, were held October 21, 2002 at Nowell Funeral Home Chapel in Ackerman with Rev. Bob Mamrak officiating and burial in French Camp Cemetery.

Mrs. Witcher died October 19, 2002 at Choctaw County Nursing Home of Heart Failure. She was a Homemaker/Housewife and a Member of French Camp Baptist Church.

Mrs. Witcher is survived by three sons, Vernon C. Witcher of Jackson, Ms, Cordell Witcher of Kosciusko, Thomas Witcher of Hattisburg, MS; five daughters, May Belle Reibsamen of Richmond, VA, Nannie Witcher of East Ridge, TN, Hazel Oswalt of Ackerman, Linda Foster of Meridian, Shirley Box of Kosciusko, 10 Grandchildren; 9 Great-Grandchildren.

Nowell Funeral Home of Ackerman was in charge of arrangements.

James T. 'Buddy' Davis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- James T. 'Buddy' Davis, 62, was killed in an automobile accident in Memphis on Oct. 20, 2002.

Mr. Davis was born Jan. 1, 1940, to Filder and Willie M. Davis in Eupora. He worked for many years for the Missouri Pacific Railroad and was owner of Davis Enterprises in Memphis.

Survivors include two sons, James T. Davis and Michael Davis; two daughters, Sherry Blackwell and Judy Davis; three grandchildren and six stepgrandchildren, all of Little Rock, Ark.; and two sisters, Mary Kimble of Wappapello, Mo., and Betty Nail of Columbus.

Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert W. Davis and Donald R. Davis.

Graveside services were Oct. 25 at Eupora City Cemetery with the Rev. William Stewart officiating.

Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
