Jimmie L. Brown
Funeral services for Jimmie L. Brown, 91, of Philadelphia were held Monday at 10 a.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Leake County,
Brown, a native of Attala County, died Feb. 14, 2004 at Choctaw Residential Center in Choctaw. He was a longtime resident of the Conway Community of Leake County but had been a resident of Philadelphia since 1984. He was a retired farmer.
He is survived by three sons, Johnny Brown of DeKalb, James Brown of Philadelphia and Gerald Brown of Kosciusko; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Zetha "Granny" Brown in 2002, and an infant daughter and a grandson.
Pallbearers were John Trussell, Clay Brown, Kip Wilcher, Ben Carroll, Eddie Carroll and Don Smith.
Dr. Wayne Hill officiated.
Robert 'Bob' Wayne Cockroft
Robert "Bob" Wayne Cockroft, 67, a retired owner and operator of Attala Ambulance, died Feb. 16, 2004 at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were to be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home with the Rev. James Burrell of County Line Baptist Church and the Rev. Barry Corbett of Kosciusko's First Baptist Church officiating.
Burial was to follow in Parkway Cemetery.
Mr. Cockroft was a member of County Line Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a son, Tony Cockroft, and a brother, Bernard Cockroft.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Cockroft; a son, Kosciusko Mayor Jimmy Cockroft and his wife Linda; brothers Billie Cockroft and Cooter Cockroft of Kosciusko, Jerry Cockroft of Ridgeland, and Joe Cockroft of Brandon; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers were to be Troy Steed, David White, Dexter Dabbs, Ronnie J. Adams, Curtis Pope, Scott Watkins and Sonny Reynolds.
Honorary pallbearers were to include the men of County Line Baptist Church.
If desired, the family suggests memorials be made to County Line Baptist Church, 3921 Singleton Rd., Carthage, MS 39051, or to Kosciusko First Baptist Church.
Bertha Odelia Cook
Services for Mrs. Bertha Odelia Cook, 93, of Hesterville were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Providence Cemetery.
Mrs. Cook, a former employee of Aponaug Manufacturing Co., died Feb. 14, 2004 at the Attala Nursing Center.
She is survived by a daughter, Christine Rollins of Sarasota, Fla.; a son, Paul Curtis Cook of Picayune; two sisters, Donnie Lamb of Boaz, Ala., Marie Totten of Hesterville; a brother, John Everette Ellard of Carthage; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was the widow of Herman Cook.
Rev. Sean Pennington officiated.
Pallbearers were T.J. Rule, Miller Crawford, Bill Boone, Ken Boone, John E. Ellard and Carlton Miller.
Memorials may be made to Hospice in His Hand Ministry.
Alice Mae Deason
Services for Mrs. Alice Mae Deason, 84, of Morton were held Monday at 2 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Parkway Cemetery.
Mrs. Deason, a retired factory worker, died Feb. 14, 2004 at the University Medical Center in Jackson. She was a member of Leesburg Baptist Church in Morton.
She is survived by a daughter, Joann Shoemaker of Morton; a son, James Elmer Deason of Climax Springs, Mo.; a sister, Ruth Bush of Detroit, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Early Deason.
Rev. Jerry Meggs officiated.
Serving as pallbearers were William McCurdy, Bobby Davis, William Beggiani, Robert Reid, Toby Holmes and Michael Holmes; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Leslie Farmer
Services for Leslie "Dutch" Farmer, 84, of Lexington were held Monday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Farmer, a retired supervisor, died Feb. 14, 2004 at the G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery Medical Center in Jackson. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Hattie Maude Farmer of Lexington; a brother, Jack B. Farmer of Lexington.
Dr. Mike O'Brien, Rev. Sonny Chapman and Rev. Blaine McLaine officiated with Southern Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Farmer, Dudley Farmer, Sammy Massey, Stewart Angell, James Downs and Mike Chapman.
Honorary pallbearers were Bill Warrington, Mike Lammons, Reuben Netherland and Billy Martin.
He was preceded in death by a niece, Wanda Power Cockrell.
Melvin Fulce
Services for Melvin "Jug" Fulce, 92, of Ackerman were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Fulce, a native of Choctaw County, died Feb. 15, 2004 at his residence. He was a retired mechanic for the Choctaw County Schools. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
He is survived by his wife, Nannie Fulce of Ackerman; a daughter, Geneva Guess of Ackerman; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Coleman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Providence Baptist Church.
George Russell James Sr.
Graveside services for George Russell James Sr., 80, of Eupora were held Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery.
James, a native of Arkansas, died Feb. 15, 2004 at Beverly Health Care in Eupora. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Marines at Pearl Harbor. He was a former tugboat chief engineer and a member of Concord Baptist Church.
He is survived by three sons, George James Jr. of Mathiston, Virgin Allen James and Norman Thomas James of Maben; three daughters, Janet Faye Powers of Ashland, Ruby Jean Johnson of Mathiston and Nancy Lorena Bright of French Camp; four sisters, Sue Painter of Virginia, Willa Jean Hughes of Canton, Pat Baird of Gulfport and Doris Short of North Carolina; 14 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Rev. Roger Griffith officiated.
Coleman Funeral Home of Ackerman handled arrangements.
William Robertson Lewis
Services for William Robertson Lewis, 19 month-old son of Shannon and Jana Lewis of Sallis, were held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Sallis Baptist Church with burial in the Harmonia Methodist Church Cemetery.
He died Feb. 12, 2004 in an automobile accident in Kosciusko.
Besides his parents, he is survived by grandparents, Claudette and Ricky Hathcock of West, James and Gloria Bordelon of Sallis, Wayne and Christine Lewis of Alexandria, La.
Rev. Thomas Wicker and Rev. Joe Reynolds officiated with Southern Funeral Home of Durant in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Clint Hathcock, Chris Hathcock, Holt Hathcock and Brad Moore.
