Leonard Herrington

Services for Leonard Herrington, 74, of Ackerman were held April 8 at 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Ackerman.

Burial was in Enon Cemetery with Coleman Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Herrington was a native of New Albany where he graduated from high school. He attended Mississippi State University and the University of Mississippi where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.

He was plant manager/owner of the Ackerman Shirt Company. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Rotary Club and was a recipient of the club's Paul Harris Award. He was a Mason and Shriner and served on the Pushmataha Council of Boy Scouts. He served on the Choctaw County School Board and was an alderman for the Town of Ackerman.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Kathryn Grittman Herrington of Ackerman; daughters, Kathryn Davis of Starkville, Leigh Naugher of Kosciusko, Elizabeth Beatty of Hoover, Ala.; a brother, Jack Herrington of New Albany; sisters, Peggy Campbell of Pontotoc, Anne Barker of Jackson, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren.

he was preceded in death by a son, Leonard Herrington III.

The Rev. George Buell officiated.

Pallbearers were Houston Sanford, Allen Sanford, Pinson Naugher, Preston Campbell, Jay Herrington, Jim Barker, Tom Campbell and John Barker.

Wesley Evon Lepard

Wesley Evon Lepard, 60, of Harlingen, Texas, former resident of Kosciusko, died April 10, 2004 while visiting with his family in Grand Prairie, Texas. He was president and CEO of Magnolia International Corp. and was a leader in the field of maquilador plant development along the Texas-Mexico border.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Harlingen. Prior to graveside services at Coleman Cemetery in McAdams today (Thursday) at 3:30 p.m. the family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. in the parlor of First Baptist Church in Kosciusko.

Lepard was a graduate of Mississippi State University where he earned a degree in engineering and did graduate work in environmental protection, hazardous waste handling, recovery, and utilization. After working with the Packard Electric Division of General Motors for 10 years, and as part owner of KLH/LVI for three years, he moved to the Valley and founded Magnolia International Corp. in 1992 to assist companies throughout the world in relocation to this border region.

He had 10 years of volunteer leadership within the health care field through his work with the Valley Baptist Health System by bringing improved delivery of health services to the people of South Texas and northern Mexico.

Serving on the Valley Baptist Board since 1994, and as chairman of the Valley Baptist Health System Board since its inception in 2001, he held a position on all subsidiary boards within the System. He served on the Texas Hospital Trustees Foundation Board, chairing the Texas Baptist General Convention's nominations committee for Institutional Boards for valley Baptist, and as the first person from South Texas to be appointed to the American Hospital Association Regional Policy Board.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Harlingen where he was a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and member of the budget committee.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Rigby Lepard of Harlingen; two daughters, Tommi Jo Hurt of Natchez and Cassie Stanteen of Grand Prairie; a sister, Marjorie Culpepper of Memphis; four grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Wilbron Stanteen, Greg Gibson, Tip Johnson, Ben McKibbens, Jim Springfield, Randy McLelland, Tom Coyle and Russell SoRell.

Honorary pallbearers were board members of the Valley Baptist Health System and deacons of First Baptist Church in Harlingen.

Memorials may be made to the Valley Baptist Foundation, P.O. Box 2588, Harlingen, Texas 78551-9982, or to First Baptist Church, 501 E. Van Buren, Harlingen, Texas 78550.

Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home of Harlingen handled arrangements.

Billy Gene Ramage

Services for Billy Gene Ramage, 67, of Kosciusko were held Friday at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Ramage, a native of Attala County and a retired route salesman for Mosby Packing Co., died April 8, 2004 at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Briarwood Baptist Church of Meridian.

He is survived by a son, Woody Jones of Quitman; two daughters, Gina Gant of Kosciusko, Linda Warren of Forest; two sisters, Yvonne Gregory and Mattie Ramage, both of Kosciusko; four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Mae Ramage.

Rev. James Salter officiated with Culpepper Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Jessie Warren, Jason Warren, Joshua Warren, Justin Warren, Brice Cole and Alex Gregory.

Honorary pallbearers were Joseph Warren, Trevor Gant and Andrew Gregory.

Mabel Earl McCool Bell

Mabel Earl McCool Bell, 85, of Thomastown, died May 25, 2004 at Clinton Health and Rehabilitation Center. Services were held May 27 at 2 p.m. at Thomastown Baptist Church with burial in Thomastown Baptist Cemetery.

Mrs. Bell was a native of Ethel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Bell, who was a chair maker, and her grandson Dean Runnels.

She was a longtime member of Thomastown Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher.

She is survived by a son, Heywood Bell of El Centro, Calif.; three daughters, Polly Runnels of Ridgeland, Susie Hale of Purvis and Teresa Bryant of Clinton; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Officiating ministers were Rev. Albert Clark and Rev. Brent Johnston Jr.

Pallbearers were David Shelley, Sam Swearingen, Gene Harmon, Roy Young, Bobby Terry and Scott Moore.

Memorials may be made to the Thomastown Baptist Cemetery Fund.

Jordan Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Sabina Loewenberg Block

Services for Mrs. Sabina Loewenberg Block, 96, were held May 25 at Congregation Beth Israel in Houston, Texas, with private interment.

Mrs. Block was born in Kosciusko July 11, 1907, the youngest of seven children of Gus and Clara Loewenberg. She moved to Houston, Texas, in 1935 upon her marriage to Shelton Block to whom she had been married 54 years at the time of his death in 1989.

Preceded in death by her husband, four brothers and one sister, she is survived by her son, Gus Block; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a sister, Pauline Abrahm; nieces, nephews, step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

Altha Rebecca Carroll

Services for Mrs. Altha Rebecca "Becky" Carroll, 57, of Kosciusko were held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with burial in Parkway Cemetery.

Mrs. Carroll died May 31, 2004. She had served as a teacher in Tupelo and at French Camp Academy as a dorm parent and school secretary. At age 50, she returned to school to become a registered nurse and then worked as a school nurse in the Carroll County School System. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her husband, Charles S. Carroll III; her mother Elsie Bartholomew of Kosciusko; sons, Dr. Charles Shannon Carroll Sr. of Jackson, W. I. "Bubba" Carroll of Kosciusko, CPT. Joshua G. Carroll of Ft. Knox, Ky., Caleb K. Carroll of Duncan, Okla., Kevin Connell of Oxford; eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, W.A. Bartholomew.

Dr. Ed Hartman and Rev. Barry Corbett officiated with Jordan Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Dr. Shannon Carroll Sr., W.I. "Bubba" Carroll, CPT. Joshua G. Carroll, Caleb K. Carroll, Kevin Connell and Brad Page.

Leon Cross

Services for Leon Cross, 80, were held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Hill M.B. Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Cross, a ret-ired farmer, died May 24, 2004 at his residence. He was a native of Attala County and a member of Little Hill M.B. Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Ella Mae Cross; a daughter, Sandra Faye McFadden of Cheraw, S.C.; three sons, Ellis Donnell of Louisville, Ky., William of Clinton and Theodore of Forest; three sisters, Earmon Smith of Saginaw, Mich., Janie Hines and Annie Lee Chestnut; six brothers, Sherman, Nevor, Noble, Freddie and L.A. all of Milwaukee, Wis., and Ernest of Chicago; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild.

Rev. Lonnie Henry officiated with Winters Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Todd Cross, Otha Cross, Effie H. Dotson, Troy White, Clinton White and Larry Smith.

Claude Ray Cook

Services for Claude Ray "Dick" Cook, 71, of Kosciusko were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Parkway Cemetery.

Cook, a heavy equipment operator, died May 26, 2004 at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was a member of West United Methodist Church and a 50 year member of Bethel Lodge 107.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa Wigley Cook; daughters, Gail Rawson, Sandra Heffner, Rose Ann Ferguson, all of Kosciusko, Lisa Cauthen of Carmack and Cindy Mangrum of Heflin, La.; five grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Lewis and Minnie Maude "Doster" Cook.

Pallbearers were Russell Rawson, Paul Ferguson, Walter Cauthen, Greg Kelley, David Allen Ellington and Keith Dean.

Honorary pallbearers were Troy Dean, Steve Clark, Richard Mangrum, Trent Ferguson and Christopher Kelley.

Memorials may be made to Hospice in His Hands Ministries, P.O. Box 387, Walnut Grove, Miss. 39189.

Allyne Moore Eakin

Services for Mrs. Allyne Moore Eakin, 76, of McCool were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Culpepper Funeral Home Chapel with burial in McCool Cemetery.

Mrs. Eakin, a native of Attala County, died May 28, 2004 at Hospice in His Hands in Durant. She was retired from Kosciusko Hosiery Mill. She was a member of Liberty Hill Methodist Church.

She is survived by three sons, Jerry Eakin of Madison, Gary Eakin of Columbus and Bennie Eakin of McCool; two sisters, Betty Jean Whittington of McCool and Willie Sue Jennings of Ethel; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Aaron Eakin.

Rev. Nicky Abraham officiated.

Pallbearers were Wendel Whittington, Brad Whittington, Jason Wheeless, Larry Wheeless, Joe Hunt and Jimmy Abraham.

Honorary pallbearers were Kenny Tanksley, Willie Goss and Jeremy Eakin.
