Minnie "Lucy" Hunter

Services for Mrs. Minnie "Lucy" Hunter, 59, of Chicago, Ill., were held May 26 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Church with burial in Saron Cemetery at Durant.

Ms. Hunter, a native of Attala County, died May 19, 2004 in Chicago following an illness of several months.

She was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church in Chicago.

She is survived by her husband, Malcolm Hunter; a daughter, Debra Jones of Calumet City, Ill.; four sons, Frederick McGee of Chicago, Christopher McGee of Bay St. Louis, Michael Hunter and Marcellis Hunter, both of Chicago; five brothers, Archie Scott, Sammy Scott, Eddie Jones all of Chicago, Bernard Boyd of Durant and Tony Boyd of Kickman, Ky.

Rev. Dexter Howard officiated with Winters Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Nell Proctor Lomenick

Graveside services for Mrs. Nell Proctor Lomenick, 71, were held Saturday at Snowdown Cemetery in Iuka.

She died May 27, 2004.

She is survived by a son, Trip Lomenick of Iuka; one granddaughter; four sisters, Mable Smith of Ethel, Bobbie Proctor of Kosciusko, Mildred Black of McCool and Betty Larson of Canton; two brothers, Billy Proctor and Arnell Proctor, both of Ethel.

Rev. Dwain Whitehurt officiated with Cutshall Funeral Home handling arrangements.

Robert Lewis Moore

Robert Lewis Moore, 46, of Eupora died May 29, 2004 at his residence.

Graveside services were held Monday at 10 a.m. at Sallis Cemetery with Rev. Sean Pennington officiating.

Moore was a first mate on a river boat with Arkansas River Co., in Rosedale.

He was a native of Bolivar County, son of Jimmy Taylor and Lyda Janette Smith Moore.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Lyda Moore of Eupora; sisters, Patricia Nason of Eupora, Janet Druery of Greenville and Judith Moore of Kosciusko; a brother, Jimmy T. Moore of Cleveland.

Jordan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ethel M. Melton

Graveside services for Miss Ethel M. Melton, 91, of Durant were held May 26 at 5 p.m. at Old Wheeling Cemetery at West.

Miss Melton, a native of Holmes County, died May 25, 2004 at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital.

She was a retired teacher and a member of Durant First Baptist Church.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

Rev. Charlie McBride officiated with Southern Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

C.A. Myers

Services for C.A. "Jack" Myers, 88, of Durant were held May 26 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Durant with burial in Mizpah Cemetery.

Myers, a retired employee of Mississippi Power & Light with 35 years of service, died May 24, 2004 at University Hospital of Holmes County in Lexington.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a Mason.

He is survived by his wife, Clara Burrell Myers of Durant; a son, Charlie Myers of Yazoo City; two daughters, Betty McBride and Donna McLellan, both of Durant; two sisters, Elsie Drane of Madison and Virginia Rickman of Itta Bena; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Rev. Matt Brady, Rev. Ed McDaniel and Rev. Kenny Boyette officiated.

Pallbearers were Charles "Chuck" Myers Jr., Keith Myers, Curt Myers, Michael McBride, Brian McBride and Cole McBride.

Honorary pallbearers were Brad Cain, Shea Schuler, John Drannan, Don Drane, Charles Keelhofer, Jim Ferguson, William Ferguson, Bill Burrell and Morris Keith.

Novertis Porter

Services for Novertis Porter, 66, were held Friday at 3 p.m. at Mt. Pilgrim M.B. Church with burial in Fancher Hill Cemetery at McCool.

Porter, a native of Marshall County, died May 23, 2004 at the Choctaw County Medical Center.

He is survived by his wife, Annie Jewel Porter; two daughters, Lakishia Porter of Ethel and Alice Rean Porter of Detroit, Mich.; two sons, Robert Ray Porter, Stanley Porter, both of Detroit; five sisters, LoveAnn Foreman of Dayton, Ohio, Eddie Mae Holt of Bronx, N.Y., Annie Ruth Malloy of Jersey City, N.J., Helen Shard and Mary Ann Weeks of Memphis; five brothers, Douglas Porter of McCool, William Porter, Albert Porter, R. Lee Porter all of Memphis, Troy Porter of Bronx, N.Y.; six grandchildren and two step daughters.

Pastor Katherine Weatherby officiated with Winters Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Larry McBride, William Porter Jr., Paul Prince, Kevin Sharp, Derrick Ward, Jimmy Carter and Chris Hollman.

Ralph P. Sims Sr.

Services for Ralph P. Sims Sr., 70, of Ridgeland, formerly of Kosciusko, were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Williamsville Baptist Church with burial in Liberty Chapel Cemetery near Ethel.

Sims, a retired conservation officer in Attala County, died May 30. 2004 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ridgeland and a former member of Williamsville Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy H. Sims of Ridgeland; sons, Ralph P. Sims Jr. of Madison, Jeffrey H. Sims of Ridgeland; a daughter, Danita Sims Rawls of Ridgeland; two brothers, Earl Sims of Kosciusko, Ronnie Sims of Meridian; a sister, Emily Busbea of Kosciusko; four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W.C. and Neta Hammond Sims, and a sister, Charlotte Bane.

Rev. Jerry East, Dr. Allen Simpson and Dr. Grant Arinder officiated with Jordan Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were "Buzz" Busbea, Craig Bane, Earl Price Jr., Jason Sims, Todd Tyler and Seth Price.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Williamsville Baptist Church Building Fund.

Ora Lee O'Briant Shields

Services for Mrs. Ora Lee O'Briant Shields, 87, of Kosciusko were held Friday at 3 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Parkway Cemetery.

Mrs. Shields died May 27, 2004 at Hospice in His Hands in Durant.

She was a member of Parkway Baptist Church where she worked in the nursery for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husbands R.L. Shields and Wilburn Maurice Murphy; and her parents, Arthur H. and Pearl Lesley O'Briant.

She is survived by two sons, Rev. Tommy M. Murphy of Noxapater and Randy D. Shields of Kosciusko; a sister, Clara Mae Thrasher of Ethel; four grandchildren; three step grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

The Rev. Tommy Murphy and Elder J.T. Shields officiated at the services.

Pallbearers were George Patton, Buster Oliver, Alton Taylor, Jessie Crosby, Joel Edwards and Walter Hines.

Memorials may be made to Parkway Baptist Church in Kosciusko.

Laura Merle Wasson Taboleski

Memorial services for Mrs. Laura Merle Wasson Taboleski, 79, of Greenville, S.C., were held Sunday at 11 a.m. at Stonewall Cemetery.

Mrs. Taboleski, a native of Ethel, died May 27, 2004.

She met Steve Taboleski while working at the army base in Jackson during World War II and they were married in 1945.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Carol Iseley of Greer, S.C., and Mrs. Sherri Griggs of Tulsa, Okla; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a brother, Joseph Mallard Wasson of Greenville.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Joseph Alex and Jimmie C. Bell Wasson; brothers, Perry, Alfred, Cecil, Ryland Bell and James Coleman Wasson; sisters, Irene McDaniel and Lorraine Crosby.

Jordan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lila Welch

Services for Mrs. Lila Welch, 90, of West were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Southern Funeral Home Chapel with burial in County Line Cemetery.

Mrs. Welch, a native of Attala County, died May 31, 2004 at Greenwood Leflore Hospital in Greenwood.

She was a retired cashier at Welch's Store.

She was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Annie Welch Gant and Beverly Welch Gant both of West; four brothers, Joe Cummins, James Cummins, Mitchell Cummins all of Grenada and Herman Cummins of Eliot; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Rev. Gerald Welch officiated.

Pallbearers were Tim Ables, Joe Gant, Tim Gant, Gerald Gant, Larry Cole and Dennis Champion.

Honorary pallbearers were Garry Caldwell and Ronnie Phillips.
