Melvin S. Worthy

Services for Mrs. Melvin S. Worthey, 95, of Madison were held May 27 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Pickens.

Mrs. Worthey, a native of Madison County, died May 25, 2004 at St. Catherine's Village in Madison. She was a retired teacher and a member of the Pickens United Methodist Church.

She is survived by 12 nieces and nephews. She was the widow of Harry Worthey.

Rev. George B. Butler and Rev. Skipper Maxwell officiated with Southern Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Burial was in Quiet Ridge Cemetery.

Grace Ballard Walbert

Funeral services for Mrs. Grace Ballard Walbert, 84, of Kosciusko were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Liberty Cemetery.

Mrs. Walbert died May 27, 2004 at her residence. She was the last member of Liberty Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Walbert Sr. and a son, Carl Walbert Jr.

She is survived by a sister, Blanche Rasberry of Kosciusko; two grandsons.

Rev. Albert Clark and Rev. Leslie Wooten officiated.

Pallbearers were George Pinkard Jr., Jerry Allen, Hugh Allen Ballard, Hugh Lee Ballard, Willie Roses, and Jerry Cagle.

Honorary pallbearers were Bill Bagley, Paul Merchant, George Pinkard Sr., Brad Adcock and John Robert Ballard.

Memorials may be made to Yockanookany Baptist Church.

Wilma Lavera B. Burch

Funeral services for Mrs. Wilma Lavera Beauchamp Burch, 94, of Kosciusko will be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Kosciusko City Cemetery.

Mrs. Burch, a native of the Marydell Community of Leake County, was the daughter of Howard Bittle and Nellie Ratcliff Beauchamp. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank C. Burch, who was manager of the Attala County Co-op for many years.

She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church and later became a charter member of Parkway Baptist Church in Kosciusko where she was active as long as her health permitted. Before moving to Attala County, she and her husband taught school in Leake County for several years.

She is survived by a son, Dr. Howard Beauchamp Burch of Lafayette, La.; a daughter, Mrs. Nettie Ann Demas of Kosciusko; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren.

Rev. Walter Hines will officiate.

Pallbearers are Brooks Swales, William Burch, Mark Atwood, Charles Brashier, John Chaney and James D. "Buster" Oliver.

Memorials may be made to Parkway Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 579, Kosciusko, Miss. 39090, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.

Josie Hollingsworth Busbin

Services for Mrs. Josie Hollingsworth Busbin, 92, of Sallis were held Wednesday at noon at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Palmer Cemetery at Hesterville.

Mrs. Busbin died June 26, 2004 at the University Hospital of Lexington.

She is survived by a daughter, Estelle Perry of Sallis; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband John H. Brown and sons, infant Doyle Brown and John A. Brown.

George Leonard Cain Sr.

Services for George Leonard Cain Sr., 73, of Corinth were held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home in Corinth. Graveside services were held at 3:30 p.m. in the Sallis Cemetery with Rev. Curtis Cain officiating.

Cain, a native of Sallis, died June 22, 2004 at Magnolia Regional Health Center. He was retired from the Mississippi State Department of Education in Jackson. He was the son of the late Dodd and Pearl Dickerson Cain of Sallis. He was a graduate of Sallis High School, Holmes Junior College and Delta State University. He received his masters degree from the University of Mississippi.

He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany for two years. He returned home to coach football at McAdams and Meadville. He became the principal of Franklin High School, then joined the Mississippi State Dept. of Education ending his career as Director of School Building and Transportation. He retired after 26 years in Jackson and relocated to Corinth.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Greer Cain of Corinth; a son, Dr. George L. Cain Jr. of Corinth; a daughter, Pamela Cain Aderholt of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren; sisters, Sarah Pilgrim of Vicksburg, Mary Grace McClellan of Sallis and Mildred Lindsay of Kosciusko; a brother, E.A. Cain of Birmingham, Ala.

Pallbearers were four grandsons Joe, Ben, Lee and Blake Cain, Billy Whitehurst and Ted Alexander.

Honorary pallbearers were his former students of the 1958 championship Tangipahoa Conference of Franklin County, and his former high school football team members from Sallis High School.

Culpepper Funeral Home handled local arrangements.

Charlie J. Ferguson

Services for Charlie J. Ferguson, 73, of Kosciusko were held June 24 at 1 p.m. at First M.B. Church with burial in Parkway Cemetery.

Ferguson, a concrete finisher, died June 20, 2004 at the Attala County Nursing Center following an illness of several weeks. He was a member of New Bethel M.B. Church at Sallis.

He is survived by four daughters, Shirley Winters, Mary Ferguson, Magnolia Bibbs all of Kosciusko and Kate Sanford of Shreveport, La.; four sons, Charles Ferguson, J.C. Ferguson, Lawrence Ferguson and Juan Ferguson all of Kosciusko; 21 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren.

Rev. Simeon Johnson officiated.

Serving as pallbearers were Jeremy Ferguson, Gerald Ferguson, Antiwon Ferguson, Terry Brown, Charles Latez Ferguson, Eric Shaw and Tony Jones.

Lula Pearl Foster

Services for Mrs. Lula Pearl Foster, 83, of Kosciusko were held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Winters Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Marble Rock Cemetery.

Mrs. Foster, a native of Attala County, died June 2, 2004 following an illness of several days. She was a member of Joint Heirs with Christ Outreach.

She is survived by three daughters, Julia Ann Foster Walker of Columbia, S.C., Louiza Dixon of Kosciusko, Emma Williams of Milwaukee; four sons, Samuel Edward, Elbert William and Marvin all of Kosciusko and Laddie Moore Jr. of Jackson; two sisters, Virgie Lene Carter and Rosie Ann Kyles of Kosciusko; 42 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild.

Elder Jerry Dixon Jr. officiated.

Pallbearers were Darryl Richard Walker, Mervin Foster Jr., Joseph Foster, Perry Foster, Harold Wilder, John Wilder, TaJaun Talley and Tony Snow.

Luna Bell McDonald

Services for Mrs. Luna Bell McDonald, 84, of Kosciusko were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Parkway Cemetery.

Mrs. McDonald, widow of George Allen McDonald, died June 25, 2004 at Hospice in His Hands Ministry in Durant. She was the daughter of the late Edgar Martin and Luna M. Myers Therrell.

She was a member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

She is survived by two nephews, Charlie Davis and John Bowie of Kosciusko; a niece, Tommie Therrell Hodge of Birmingham, Ala.; eight great-nieces and nephews.

Rev. James Salter officiated.

Pallbearers were Brent Davis, John Davis, Royce McDonald, Ed McDonald, Sean Bowie and Neal Alsup.

Stacey Renee' Farrell Nail

Services for Stacey Renee' Farrell Nail, 33, of Kosciusko were held Monday at 2 p.m. at Culpepper Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Harmony Cemetery near McCool.

Ms. Nail, employed by Kosciusko Super Center in car sales, died June 26, 2004 in an automobile accident in Yazoo County. She was a native of Jackson and a member of Harmony Baptist Church.

She is survived by her father, Thomas Farrell Jr. of McCool, her mother and step father, Doris and J.C. Tyler Jr. of Kosciusko; a daughter, Lacy Nichole Nail of Kosciusko; her grandmother, Minnie Warren of Pulaski; a brother, Chad Farrell of McCool; a sister, Tiffany Farrell of Kosciusko; a niece and nephew.

Pallbearers were Jeff Warren, James Reeves, Tony Henry, Jared Reeves, Bobby Thornton and Larry Carter.

Opal Hodges Adcock Ramage

Services for Mrs. Opal Hodges Adcock Ramage, 89, of West Point, former resident of McAdams, were held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Memorial Garden Cemetery.

Mrs. Ramage, daughter of the late Marvin and Rilla Gibson Hodges, died June 27, 2004 at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Jo Peeples and Emmie Fulgham, both of West Point; three grandchildren, three step grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, eight step great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and eight step great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Farris Hodges of Millington, Tenn.; five sisters, Pauline Moore of Birmingham, Ala., Betty Villanveva of Bartow, Fla., Joyce Stevens of Baton Rouge, La., Bonnie Lois Lee of Raymond and Vonda Simpson of Clinton.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Emmett Adcock in 1950 and Bill Ramage in 1981.

Officiating ministers were Dr. James Lowery, Rev. Roy Myers and Rev. Jim Young.

Pallbearers were Elbert A. Smith, Emmett Armstrong, Gerald Armstrong, Joe Pratt, Dewitt Adcock and Roy Moore.

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. R.T. Lott, Dr. Robert Dunn, Dr. Edmund A. Miller, staff of Dugan Memorial Home and staff of North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point.
