Violet A. Plunkett

Funeral services for Mrs. Violet Plunkett, 85, of Williamsville were held Friday at Williamsville Baptist Church with burial in Parkway Cemetery.

Rev. Joe Blackwell, Rev. Jerry East and Rev. Barry Corbett officiated.

"Miss Violet" as many referred to her, was born Nov. 30, 1918 to Robert Allen and Evie Miller Allen in Leake County. She taught elementary school at Sallis, Long Creek and several other area schools before retiring after 36 years.

Mrs. Plunkett was an active member of Williamsville Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Women's Missionary Union. She was also an RSVP volunteer at the Natchez Trace Visitors Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, J.D. Plunkett, who was also an educator, and died May 2, 1978.

She is survived by sons Hugh Plunkett of Clarksdale and Robert Plunkett of Ripley; daughters Betty Plunkett of Clinton, Terri Huey of Brookhaven and Suzanne Ables of Kosciusko; brother Hubert Allen of Shreveport, La.; sister Doris Lovett of Ridgeland; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Her three grandsons and Bobby Lindsay, Robby Robertson and Weldon Harris served as pallbearers.

The family requests that memorials be made to Williamsville Baptist Church designated for missions, 16995 Williamsville Road, Kosciusko, MS 39090 or to the Television Ministry of First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 70, Kosciusko, MS 39090.

Culpepper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Anthony Parker

Services for Anthony Parker, 25, of Attala County were held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Winters Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Parkway Cemetery.

Parker, a construction and factory employee, died Sept. 25, 2004 at the University Medical Center in Jackson. He was a member of Delydia Hill M.B. Church in Leake County.

He is survived by his parents, Larry Joe and Patricia Parker; a brother, Jason Parker.

Rev. Clyde Johnson Jr. officiated.

Charles Swinton Agent

Funeral services for Charles Swinton Agent, 78, of Philadelphia were held Monday at 1 p.m. at John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Services with burial in Arlington Baptist Cemetery. Agent, a veteran of the U.S. Army, died Oct. 8, 2004 at Maison DeVille Nursing Home in Harvey, La. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Arlington Baptist Church. He is survived by a daughter, Judy Boudreaux of Marrero, La.; a son, Donnie Agent of Harvey, La.; three sisters, Elner Coghlan of Kosciusko, Marie Flowers of Gretna, La., Sherlene Nance of Philadelphia; brothers, Kern Agent of Denison, Texas and Keith Agent of Philadelphia; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Vernon Wattles, Ray Greenwood, Sean Agent, Dennis Todd, Nicholas Thibodeaux and Guy Agent.

Rev. Don Savell and Rev. John Stephens officiated.

Marvin Henry Carter

Graveside services for Marvin Henry Carter, 73, of Carthage were held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery in the Singleton Community.

Carter, a veteran of the Korean War, was retired from General Motors.

He is survived by his wife, Tommie E. Carter of Carthage; a son, Dennis Boyd of Carthage; a sister, Barbara Ann Ashwell of Salem, Ore. and a brother, Dennis Wilson Boyd of Irving, Texas.

Rev. Bobby Robertson officiated with Culpepper Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Connie Marie Fortenberry

Services for Mrs. Connie Marie Fortenberry, 59, of Philadelphia were held Sunday at 4 p.m. at Crossroads Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Fortenberry died Oct. 8, 2004 at Hospice In His Hands in Madden. She was a retired waitress and a member of Crossroads Baptist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Shelly Belk of Carthage; a step daughter, Janet Belk of Union; sons, Kevin Collins of Kosciusko, Sam Collins of San Antonio, Texas, Warren Collins of Carthage; sisters, Rita Lewis of Tennessee, Linda Lewis of McComb; brothers, W.J. Demarest of Tennessee, and Terry Demarest of Albany, La.; 12 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Fortenberry in 1998.

Rev. Curt Pace officiated with John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Services in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Tommy Belk, Matthew Belk, Billy Dean Belk Jr., John Williams, Kevin Belk, Andy Savell and Cody Collins.

Nora Lee Weeks Jennings

Mrs. Nora Lee Weeks Jennings, 77, of Kosciusko, a retired clerk for Hammond Hardware, died Sept. 21, 2004 at her residence.

Services were held Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church with burial in Parkway Cemetery.

Mrs. Jennings was a member of First Baptist Church and a long time Sunday School teacher.

She is survived by her husband, Marcus Pellon Jennings; sons, Danny Weeks of New York, N.Y. and David Jennings of Meridian; a daughter, Laurie Elaine Jennings Browning of Kosciusko; brothers, Gilbert Garland Weeks and Thomas Michael Weeks, both of Carriere, and James Clifford Weeks of Tylertown; a sister, Nedra Kay Doyle of Carriere; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert Weeks and Olive Pearson Weeks; and sister Margaret Elaine Weeks Herring.

Jordan Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Oma Lee Patterson

Services for Miss Oma Lee Patterson, 86, of Ackerman were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Bradley Church of God with burial in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in the Bradley Community.

Miss Patterson, a native of Oktibbeha County, died Oct. 9, 2004 at the Choctaw County Nursing Home.

She is survived by four sisters, Ellie McBride of Bessemer, Ala., Mattie Coleman of Kosciusko, Ida Horten of Birmingham, Ala., and Mary Moore of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Allie and Ellen Upchurch Patterson, and a brother, Pat Patterson.

Rev. David Tatum and Rev. Rammy Porter officiated.

Pallbearers were Aaron Patterson, Gordon McBride, Kenneth Coleman, Charles Coleman, James Hal Coleman and Richard Rooker.

Culpepper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Elesteen F. Rockette

Services for Mrs. Elesteen F. Rockette, 56, of Milwaukee were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Barlow United Methodist Church with burial in Barlow Cemetery.

Mrs. Rockette, an elementary teacher, died Oct. 1, 2004 in Milwaukee following an illness of several months. She was a member of Barlow United Methodist Church. She was a native of Attala County.

She is survived by her husband, Johnny Clyde Rockette; a daughter, Kimberly Renee Rockette of Milwaukee; a son, Johnny Andrett Rockette of Milwaukee; a sister, Ruth Handley of Milwaukee; four brothers, James Fleming, Hubert Fleming, Walter Fleming and Billy Fleming all of Sallis; host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Rev. Leon Collier officiated with Winters Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Leroy Fleming, Francis Fleming, Charles Fleming, Leonard Brown, Joenathan Barksdale, and Romaro Barksdale.

Bea Shurden

Services for Mrs. Bea Shurden, 77, of McCool were held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church with burial in the Hopewell cemetery.

Mrs. Shurden, a retired host and clerk for Holiday Inn, died Oct. 7, 2004 at her residence.

She is survived by her husband, Gene Shurden; a host of family and friends.

Serving as pallbearers were Glenn Deason, Billy Shurden Nunn, Chris Stevenson, Leon Stevenson, Floyd Morgan, James Collier, Morris May and David Fancher.

Memorials may be made to Hopewell Cemetery Fund.

Rev. Timothy Black officiated with Jordan Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Lessie Mae Lewis Swanson

Services for Mrs. Lessie Mae Lewis Swanson 88, of Kosciusko were held Friday at 10 a.m. at Center Church of God with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Swanson, a native of Attala County, died Oct. 5, 2004 at the Attala Nursing Center following an illness of several weeks. She was a retired pre-school teacher and a member of the Center Church of God.

She is survived by a brother, Jerry C. Lewis of Kosciusko, several nieces and nephews.

Rev. Charles Hardy officiated with Winters Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
