Jonathan Clayton

Services for Jonathan Clayton, 83, of Kosciusko were held Jan. 25 at 11 a.m. at Center Hill M.B. Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Clayton, a native of Leake County, died Jan. 21, 2005 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Kosciusko. He was a member of Center Hill M.B. Church and a veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, LaPearl Clayton; a son, Larry Clayton of Milwaukee; host of nieces and nephews.

Rev. Robert Denmark officiated with Winters Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Clinton Hunt

Services for Clinton Hunt, 90, of Sallis were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church in the Panhandle Community of Choctaw County where he grew up. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Hunt, a retired dairy and cotton farmer, died Jan. 28, 2005 at Health Alliance in Meridian. He had been a resident of Atwood Personal Care Home in Kosciusko. He served as president of the Attala County Farm Bureau for many years and was a longtime member of the Attala County ASCS Committee. He was a founding board member of the Attala County Cooperative.

He is survived by two sisters, Kathleen Brannan of Weir and Thelma Turnipseed of Columbus; seven nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Homer Lee Hunt; his mother, Pearla Whitmire Hunt; brothers W.D. Hunt and Orris Hunt; sisters, Lois Hunt Black and Vera Hunt Goodyear.

Pallbearers were Tommy Buford, Harvey Cook, David Quarles, John Quarles, Paul Rone and Hilton Whitmire.

Honorary pallbearers were Curtis Burrell and E.E. Lacey.

Culpepper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Hopewell Cemetery Fund, Rt. 1, Box 13, McCool, Miss. 39108 or to the charity of choice.

Margie Hutchison

Services for Mrs. Margie Hutchison, 70, of Sallis were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Culpepper Funeral Home Chapel with burial in McClain Cemetery.

Mrs. Hutchison, a native of Attala County, died Jan. 28, 2005 at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Hurricane Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Johnnie Hutchison of Sallis; two sons, Douglas Hutchison of Sallis and Randy Hutchison of Kosciusko; a daughter, Joyce Crum of Morgan City, La.; two sisters, Betty Edwards of Sallis and Annie Lou Moore of Kosciusko; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Rev. Freddie Tanksley and Rev. Glenn Ellington officiated.

Pallbearers were Bobby Ray Edwards, James Arthur Edwards, Johnny Crum, Timothy Crum, Brad Hutchison and Pierre Cain.

Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Farrell and Carlton Alford.

Mildred K. Lovorn

Services for Mrs. Mildred K. Lovorn, 88, of Kosciusko were held Jan. 27 at 3 p.m. at Culpepper Funeral Home Chapel with burial in New Hope Cemetery.

Mrs. Lovorn, a native of Attala County, died Jan. 25, 2005 at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She was a retired cashier for Morrison's Cafeteria.

She is survived by a son, James Patrick Eagan of Durant; a daughter, Jeanette May of Kosciusko; a step daughter, Jinky Hatley of Kosciusko; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Gray Lovorn.

Rev. John Ballard officiated.

Pallbearers were David Moore, Keith White, Phillip White, Brian White, Catlin May and Galen Shumaker.

Douglas Irwin McElroy

Services for Douglas Irwin McElroy, 55, of Vaiden were held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Friendship Cemetery.

McElroy died Jan. 28, 2005 at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital. He was a retired employee of LuVel Dairy and served as fire chief of the Friendship Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra McElroy; a son, Cory McElroy of Vaiden; three daughters, Carla Ellington of Kilmichael, Callie McElroy and Cassie McElroy of Vaiden; two brothers, David McElroy and Mark McElroy of Vaiden; a sister, Carleen Hodges of Vaiden; two grandchildren; his father, James Carl McElroy of Vaiden.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Kathleen Irwin McElroy.

Rev. Billy Little and Rev. George Felts officiated.

Pallbearers were Trent Evans, Mike Evans, Craig Evans, Jeff Hodges, Ricky Rawson, Chris McElroy, Brian Hodges and Mike Rawson.

Volunteers of the Friendship Fire Department served as honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the Friendship Memorial Fund.

Bob McCullough

Funeral services for Bob McCullough, 76, of Jackson were held Monday at 1 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Tabernacle Cemetery. He died Jan. 28, 2005 at his home.

He was a graduate of Louisville High School, Holmes Community College and Mississippi State University where he received a bachelor of science and a masters degree in social science. He was a longtime resident of Jackson and retired after 37 years with Vickers where he served as an accountant. He was a member of Briarwood United Methodist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and on various committees throughout the years. He was a veteran, serving as a corporal in the 25th infantry of the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Gwendolyn Rone McCullough of Jackson; son, Mark Lee McCullough of Flowood; one grandson; a brother, Carl Gene McCullough of Tyler, Texas

Memorials may be made to the Mississippi Methodist Rehabilitation Center Wilson Research Foundation, 1350 East Woodrow Wilson, Jackson, Miss. 39216 or Briarwood United Methodist Church.

Bonnie K. Norris

Services for Mrs. Bonnie K. Norris, 83, of Dallas, Ga., were held Friday at 11 a.m. at Culpepper Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Center Cemetery.

Mrs. Norris, a native of Attala County and a retired teacher, died Jan. 25, 2005 at her residence. She was the daughter of Charlie Ross Kelly and Mattie Cornelia Bailey Kelley. She graduated from Mississippi State University and taught elementary grade students at Glendale and Caledonia before moved to Powder Springs in 1967. She taught second grade at Powder Springs Elementary School when it was located on Atlanta Street. She retired in 1979 after a 21-year teaching career.

She was a member of Roswell Street Baptist Church in Mareitta. In previous years she served as president of the Mimosa Garden Club in Powder Springs, president of Keen Wayfarers in Mableton, Ga. and entertainment coordinator for the Powder Springs Senior Citizens Center.

She is survived by three daughters, Mattie Norris and Linda Norris of Dallas, Ga., and Mary Ann Ghattas of Marietta; two grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry "Red" Norris who was a teacher in Cobb County, Ga.

Rev. James Culpepper officiated.

Pallbearers were John White, Michael White, Rayborn White and Jason White.

Mabel Ann McGuire

Services for Mrs. Mable Ann McGuire, 63, of Oklahoma City, Okla., were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the First United Pentecostal Church in Kosciusko with burial in McCool Cemetery.

Mrs. McGuire died Jan. 25, 2005 at Midwest City Hospital in Oklahoma City.

She is survived by her husband, Alvie McGuire; sons, Roger Overton Hill of Ethel and Mark Steven Hill of McCool; daughters, Lisa Karen Blaine of Jackson and Gay Ann Fancher of McCool; brothers, Bob Overton of Clarksdale and Bill Overton of Pickens; sisters, Attie Jean Merchant and Lena Rose Moore of Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Phillip Fancher, Bradley Fancher, Matt Steed, Robert Veazey, Richard Veazey and James Fancher.

Rev. Ferdinand Schexnayder and Rev. Shannon Pennington officiated with Jordan Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Southern Oak Pentecostal Church, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Catherine Sims Patton

Services for Mrs. Catherine Sims Patton, 92 of Topeka, Kan., formerly of Kosciusko, were held Monday at 3 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Bear Creek Cemetery.

Mrs. Patton, a native of Attala County, was the daughter of Henry and Leola Huffman. She was a graduate of Weir High School and East Central Junior College in Decatur.

She was married to Leon Sims of Kosciusko in 1936 in Carthage. He was killed in a tractor accident in 1966. She married Roy C. Patton, formerly of Springfield, Ill., in 1972. In 1992, she moved to the Tucker Apartments in Carbondale, Kan. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kosciusko where she was president of her Sunday School class for several years. She attended the Christian Fellowship Church of Carbondale.

She is survived by a son, Jerry L. Sims of Topeka; step daughter, Ester Patton Kirby of Buffalo, Ill.; a sister, Leolene Hann of Waverly, Ohio; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; also step grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Kosciusko First Baptist Church music ministry fund.
