Funeral services for Elton C. “Pig” Mallett, 49, of Kosciusko will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Hill M.B. Church with burial in Parkway Cemetery.

Mallett, a construction worker, died Aug. 17, 2007.

Winters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Elbert William Foster

Services for Elbert William Foster, 64, of Kosciusko will be held Saturday at noon at Marble Rock M.B. Church with burial in Parkway Cemetery.

Foster, retired from the military, died Aug. 20, 2007 at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital.

Winters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Janice Williams

Funeral services for Mrs. Janice Williams, 58, of Kosciusko will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Parkway Cemetery.

She died Aug. 20, 2007 at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital.

Elma Delores Hendricks McBride

Graveside services for Mrs. Elma Delores Hendricks McBride, 80, of Durant will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near West.

Mrs. McBride, a retired secretary, died Aug. 26, 2007 at the Durant Nursing Center.

Victor Dennis Steen

Services are incomplete for Victor Dennis Steen, 78, of Kosciusko. He died Aug. 28, 2007 at his residence.

Arrangements are being handled by Culpepper Funeral Home.

Victor Dennis Steen

Funeral services for Victor Dennis Steen, 78, of Kosciusko will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Culpepper Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Hebron Cemetery.

Visitation is Wednesday, 5-8 p.m.

Steen, a retired transportation director for Holmes Community College, died Aug. 28, 2007 at his residence. The Montgomery County native was a member of Second Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Estelle Fultz Steen, a son, Mike Steen, a daughter, Denise Storey all of Kosciusko; a sister Bobbye Nell Griffin of Arlington, Texas; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Rev. Donald Self will officiate.

Emily Sims Busbea

Funeral services for Mrs. Emily Sims Busbea, 67, of Kosciusko were held Aug. 30 at 11 a.m. at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Parkway Cemetery.

Mrs. Busbea, a housewife, died Aug. 28, 2007 at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Williamsville Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Clay Busbea of Kosciusko; a son, Buzz Busbea and his wife, Beth of Flowood; daughters, Cindy Thompson and her husband, Bobby, of Collierville, Tenn., Beth Johnson and her husband Ronnie of Denham Springs, La.; brothers, earl Sims of Kosciusko and Ronnie Sims of Meridian; grandchildren, Melissa Samsel, Kara Johnson, Rebecca Thompson, Emily Johnson, Jesse Busbea and great-grandchildren, Molly Arnold, Paul Joseph Johnson, and Ezra Arnold.

Rev. Allen Simpson officiated.

Pallbearers were Donnie Sims, Ralph Sims Jr., Jeff Sims, Earl Price Jr., Alfred Rawls and Seth Price.

Memorials may be made to the Williamsville Baptist Church building fund.

Douglas Wayne Rawson

Funeral services for retired Kosciusko Fire Department Chief Douglas Wayne Rawson, 73, were held Friday at 11:30 a.m. at the fire department with Rev. Barry Corbett officiating.

Rawson died Aug. 29, 2007 at Atwood Personal Care Home.

He was an active firefighter for 37 years with the Kosciusko Fire Department and served as chief for a number of years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest Grover Rawson and Ida Mabel Porter Rawson West; a brother, Howard Rawson; a sister, Alberta Ellis.

He is survived by a daughter, Beth Cummins and her husband Frankie of Kosciusko; two grandchildren, Lauren Cummins Watts and Jake Cummins; a sister, Virginia Stroud of Portsmouth, Va.

Burial was in Parkway Cemetery with firemen assisting with full honors. Jordan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Kosciusko Fire Department personnel served as pallbearers and former firefighters with the department served as honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or to the building fund of First Baptist Church of Kosciusko.

James Carl McElroy

James Carl McElroy, 83, of Vaiden died Sept. 1, 2007 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Kosciusko.

He was born Oct. 5, 1923 in Poplar Creek, Montgomery County, to Oliver Hazzard and Erma Canon Curtis McElroy.

He was a retired welder with Sheller-Globe Corp. and Superior Coach Corp for 33 years. He was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church, the Winona Coon Hunters Assoc., a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army as technician 5th grade.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Calvin Cosnahan officiating. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Olene McElroy of Vaiden; sons, David McElroy and Mark McElroy of Vaiden; step sons, Kempe Hodges of Vaiden, Phillip Hodges of Jackson, and Jeff Hodges of Vaiden; daughters, Carleen Hodges of Vaiden; step daughter, Kathy Alford of Vaiden; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Erma Dean Thornton of Vaiden; a brother, O.D. McElroy of French Camp.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen Irwin McElroy, and son, Doug McElroy, and one sister, Lorene Williams, brothers Paul McElroy and Ralph McElroy.

Pallbearers were Bobby Hulett, Jerry O’Briant, Gene Shirley, Andy Ellington, Brian Hodges and Brandon Hodges. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Winona Coon Hunters Association.

Memorials may be made to the Friendship cemetery fund.

Robert Anthony Weeks

Funeral services for Robert Anthony Weeks, 43, of Kosciusko will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Culpepper Funeral Home Chapel with burial in New Hope Lutheran Church Cemetery, Sallis.

Visitation will be Friday, 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Weeks, a native of Augsburg, Germany, died Sept. 17, 2008 at his residence. He was owner-operator of a lawn service in Kosciusko. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his parents, Johnnie and Margaret Weeks of Kosciusko; a son, Kodi McCoy of West Monroe, La.; two daughters, Barbara Heath and husband Dixon, and Kayla O’Quinn; two brothers, Michael Weeks and wife Peggy, Ronald Weeks; a sister, Valerie Johnson; special friends, Melanie Edwards and Cindy Dees.

Rev. James “Bo Bo” Burrell and Rev. Allen Dees will officiate.

Rosa Lee Bishop Sims

Funeral services for Mrs. Rosa Lee Bishop Sims, 91, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Parkway Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday, 10-11 a.m.

Mrs. Sims died Sept. 18, 2008 at the Tippah County Hospital in Ripley following an extended illness. She was born Dec. 21, 1915 to the late James Ellison Bishop and Cordie McHann Bishop in Drew, Sunflower County. Married in 1937, she was the widow of Horace Allen Sims of Kosciusko. She was an active member of Kosciusko First Baptist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Sarah S. Washburn of Blue Mountain; two granddaughters, Susan W. Taylor of Madison and Laurel W. Baldwin of Alvaton, Ky.; four great-grandchildren, Will Taylor and Katie Taylor of Madison, Melissa Baldwin of Nashville and Adam Baldwin of Bowling Green, Ky.; three special nieces, Patricia Bishop Lacey of Kosciusko, Doris Stewart Summers of Jackson, and Ava Sims Day of Brandon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace A. Sims; four sisters, Mildred Bishop, Martha B. Stewart, Edna B. Bonnett, Mamie B. Booker; one brother, Jesse Bishop; and a host of other fine relatives.

Pallbearers will be Robert Allen Knight, James Sims, Bill Day, Greg Taylor, Adam Baldwin and Will Taylor.

Wayne J. Brown

Wayne J. Brown, 85, of West, a millwright, died Sept. 17, 2008 at his residence. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Bethsaida Baptist Church near Poplar Creek with burial in the Bethsaida Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Jordan Funeral Home.

Rev. Dewitt Cutts officiated.

Mr. Brown was of the Baptist faith. He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was also a former Mason and member of the Eastern Star.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Judith Ann Brown; parents, Joe E. and Bertha Mae Hellum Brown; brother, Willard David Brown.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Brown; sons, Wayne L. Brown and wife, Kathy, of Marietta, Ga., Jimmie E. Brown and wife, Dale, of Crescent City, Fla., and Shawn M. Brown of West; daughters, Patricia B. Sullivan of Kennesaw, Ga., Mary Jean Willis and husband, Ted, of Buford, Ga., Shirley Goss and husband, Ken, of Duluth, Ga., Kathy Widner and husband, Glen, of Waynesboro, Ga., and Joy Cutts and husband, Jackie, of West; 21 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Mike Thomas, John Tennet, Scott Creswell, Johnny Holton, Wesley Widner and Keith Willis.

Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Chunn, Weiss Rosamond, and Brian Norwood.

John Alex Munn

Funeral services for John Alex Munn, 85, of Kosciusko were held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Culpepper Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Parkway Cemetery.

Munn, retired foreman at Superior Coach, died Sept. 18, 2008 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Kosciusko. He was a native of Leake County, a member of the Methodist Protestant Church, and a veteran of World War II serving in the Marine Corp.

He is survived by a son, John Munn and his wife Joy; two daughters, Brenda Pinkard and her husband George Pinkard Jr., Jennifer Cagle and her husband Jerry, all of Kosciusko; a brother, Murray Munn and a sister, Minnie Meggs; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Munn; brothers, Grady Munn, Mitchell Munn; and a sister, Marie Culpepper.

Rev. Jerry Meggs and Rev. Baron Pilgrim officiated.

Pallbearers were Ben Pinkard, Ricky Culpepper, Bill Carson, Matt Munn, Josh Pinkard and Lawrence Meggs.

Louie Hutchins

Funeral services for Louie Hutchins, 83, of Carthage, will be held Sept. 26 at 1 p.m. at Center Hill M.B. Church, Carthage with burial in the Church Cemetery.

Hutchins, a retired teacher, died Sept. 19, 2008 in Attala County.

Winters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

David Bernard Kernop

David “Pete” Bernard Kernop, 77, of Kosciusko, formerly of Camden, died Sept. 30, 2008 at the Attala County Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday, Sept. 2) at 11 a.m. at Goodhope Baptist Church with burial in the Church Cemetery.

Kernop, a native of Madison County, was a member of Goodhope Baptist Church. He was employed with the road maintenance of Madison County.

He is survived by his wife, Velma Barrett Kernop of Camden; two sons, David Lee Kernop of Canton, Luke Kernop of Camden; a daughter, Judy Goss of Camden; three sisters, Annette Seawright of Kosciusko, Betty Jeanette Duran of Carthage, and Margaret Gross of Huntsville, Ala.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Rev. Tim Dortch and Rev. Clarence Stringer were to officiate.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jefferson W. Kernop Jr.

Culpepper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
