Noel Henry "Butch" Blaylock, 57, of Horn Lake, retired heating and air conditioning technician, died of heart failure March 24, 2001. Services were held March 26 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch with burial in Lebanon Cemetery. Mr. Blaylock leaves his wife, Martha Blaylock; a step daughter, Brenda Estes of Lewisburg; a step son, James Elton Gadd of Ashland; two sisters, Joanna Foster of Collierville, Tenn. and Clara Johnson of Cordova, Tenn. and three grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to the American Diabetes Association.

DARLING

Murray Darling, 89, of Olive Branch, formerly of Memphis, retired auto body repairman for Mustin’s Auto Work, died of heart failure March 24, 2001 at Baptist Memorial Hospital Collierville. Services were held March 26 at Forest Hill South Chapel with burial in Forest Hill South Cemetery. He was a member of Capleville United Methodist Church where he was active on the Official Board and Administrative Board. Mr. Darling leaves his wife of 68 years, Annie Laurie Darling; a daughter, Margaret Traylor of Olive Branch; two sons, Elbert "Buddy" Darling of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Thomas "Tommy" Darling of Sandston, Va., ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Capleville United Methodist Church.

KNICHEL

Vernon Fredrick Knichel, 88, of Southaven, retired inspector for Firestone Tire and Rubber Co., died of heart failure March 24, 2001 at Methodist South Hospital. Services were held March 27 at Forest Hill South Chapel with burial in Forest Hill South Cemetery. He was a member of Coro Lake Church of Christ, former deputy game warden in Tennessee, and professional wrestler until 1938. Mr. Knichel leaves his wife, Jessie Knichel; three daughters, Manda Bailey of Lake Cormorant, Deborah Osbirn and Susan Taylor, both of Southaven; a son, William Knichel of Olive Branch, ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

MCBRIDE

Betty L. McBride, 63, of Olive Branch, retired from NSA Water Systems, died of heart disease March 23, 2001 at Baptist Memorial Hospital DeSoto. Services were held March 27 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch with burial in Blocker Cemetery. Mrs. McBride leaves her husband, William McBride; five daughters, Gail Beith of Millington, Tenn., Rita Morrison of Seward, Ark., Dee Osman of Water Valley, Lynn DiBiaci of Memphis, Tenn. and Judy Taylor of Olive Branch; two sons, John Lindsey of Calhoun City and Bo Johnson of Holly Springs; a sister, Christine Struble of Selmer, Tenn. and thirteen grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

MORROW

Venn Herman Morrow, 88, of Memphis, retired school teacher, died of heart failure March 27, 2001 at St. Francis Nursing Home in Memphis. Services were held March 29 at Waller Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford with burial in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Oxford. He was a member of Covenant Baptist Church in Germantown, Tenn. and served as a Yeoman 1st Class in the Navy during World War II. Mr. Morrow leaves his wife, Marine Winter Morrow; a daughter, Suzanne Covey of Olive Branch; two sisters, Mary Katherine Palmer of Holly Springs and Sarah Evelyn Brooks of Oxford; a brother, Joe William Morrow of Oxford and a granddaughter, Cynthia Carol Covey of Olive Branch. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Covenant Baptist Church in Germantown or to the American Heart Association.

PRUETT

Hope C. Pruett, 77, of Horn Lake, died of heart failure March 26, 2001 at Baptist Progressive Health Care in Southaven. Services were held March 29 at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel with burial in Forest Hill South Cemetery in Memphis. She was a member of the Nesbit Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Mrs. Pruett, the widow of Mell Lee Pruett, also leaves a daughter, Glenda McGroom of Mountain View, Ark.; a son, Robert L. Pruett of Horn Lake; six sisters, Evelyn Sudderfield of Heber Springs, Ark., Eva Hicks of Searcy, Ark., Nell Turner of Houston, Tex., Mary Macha of Hillderbrandt Acres, Tex., Velta Boudreaux of Orangefield, Tex. and Joyce Reeves of Neederland, Tex., eleven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

SHEPHERD

Lynda Sue Shepherd, 50, of Southaven, died of heart failure March 23, 2001 at Baptist Memorial Hospital DeSoto in Southaven. Graveside services were held March 28 in New Bethlehem Cemetery. She leaves three sisters, Marsha Elliot and Nettie Baker, both of Southaven and Sybol Carter of Clarksdale, and a brother, James Shepherd of Memphis, Tenn.. The family requests that any memorials be sent to the Special Olympics.

SHINAULT

W. Sidney Shinault, Sr., 80, of Byhalia, retired construction foreman for E.I Dupont died of heart failure March 26, 2001 at Baptist Memorial Hospital Collierville. Services were held March 28 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch with burial in Byhalia Cemetery. Mr. Shinault leaves his wife of 60 years, Ione Blanton Shinault; two daughters, Annella Szanyi and Theresa London, both of Byhalia; three sons, Sidney Shinault, Jr. of Olive Branch, Joey Shinault of Byhalia and Cecil Shinault of Scottsboro, Ala.; a brother, Lt. Col. Tom Shinault of Sacramento, Calif., five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

VAUGHN

Thelma Anderson Vaughn, 87, of Hernando, died of heart failure March 25, 2001 at her home. Services were held March 28, on her 88th birthday, at Bakers Chapel Methodist Church in Hernando, where she was a member since 1925, with burial in Baker Chapel Cemetery. Brantley Phillips Funeral Home in Hernando had charge. Mrs. Vaughn leaves her husband, Lonnie Vaughn; three daughters, Kay Speed of Germantown, Tenn., Annette Ragsdale of Roanoke, Va. and Gail Blosfield of Smyrna, Ga.; a son, Erwin Vaughn of Hernando, ten grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. The family requests that all memorials be sent to Bakers Chapel Building Fund.

BAKER
Edna Ann Baker, 62, of Byhalia, housewife, died of cancer April 12, 2001 at St. Francis Hospital. Services were held April 14 at Brantley Funeral Home with burial in Byhalia Cemetery. She was a member of the Apostolic Church of Jesus. Mrs. Baker, the wife of Virgil Louis Baker, also leaves two step-daughters, Donna Austin of Ashland and Shelia Baker of Memphis, Tenn.; a step-son, Louis Baker Jr. of Memphis and a son, Kevin Baker of Byhalia; five sisters, Joy Fay Simmons of Jacksonville, Fla., Gloria Knipper of Murfreesboro, Tenn. and Sandra Giddens, Linda Lance and Sherry Rhodes, all of Jackson, Tenn.; four brothers, Bobby West of Memphis, Jerry West of Jackson, Tenn., Terry West Sr. of Corinth and Larry West of Bolivar, Tenn., and two grandchildren.

BROADWAY

Rosa Kirkland Broadway, 95, of Hernando, retired teacher, died of heart failure April 8, 2001 in Southaven. Services were held April 10 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch with burial in Boggan Cemetery. She was a member of Lewisburg United Methodist Church. Mrs. Broadway, the widow of Jordan Broadway, leaves a daughter, Norma Treadway of Horn Lake; two sons, Thomas Broadway and Albert Broadway, both of Hernando; ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. The family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Wesley Meadows in Hernando.

CLEMMER

Ricky Dennis Clemmer, 47, of Olive Branch, disabled U.S. Navy Veteran, died of heart failure April 7, 2001 at V.A. Medical Center. Services were held April 11 at Forest Hill South Chapel with burial in Forest Hill South Cemetery. He was a member of Broadway Baptist Church. Mr. Clemmer leaves his daughter, Tanya Tepfenhart of Memphis, Tenn.; two sons, Dennis Clemmer and Andrew Clemmer, both of Memphis; his parents, Dennis and Helen Clemmer of Olive Branch; a brother, Donald Clemmer of Olive Branch; his grandmother, Nora Malone of Olive Branch and one grandson. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Broadway Baptist Church "Invested In The Future" fund.

CRUMPTON

Charles Fletcher Crumpton, 82, of Southaven, retired truck driver for Shelby County Road Department, died of heart failure April 6, 2001 at Baptist Memorial Hospital DeSoto. Graveside services were held April 9 at Forest Hill South Cemetery. Mr. Crumpton leaves his wife, Clara Crumpton; two stepdaughters, Janice Arceo of Onalaksa, Wisc. and Jackie Crunk of Memphis, Tenn.; two stepsons, Marvin Petty and Don Petty, both of Memphis; a sister, Vergie Justice of Springfield, Mo. and one grandson.

GARNER

Helen Anderson Garner, 88, of Southaven, retired homemaker and seamstress, died of respiratory failure on April 8, 2001. Services were held April 11 at Forest Hill South Chapel with burial in Forest Hill South Cemetery. She was a member of Longstreet United Methodist Church. Mrs. Garner, the widow of John Lee Garner Sr., leaves a son, John Lee Garner Jr. of Hernando; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

GULLEDGE

Dr. Thomas Eldridge Gulledge, 75, of Hernando, formerly of Memphis, retired Dentist, died of heart failure April 7, 2001 at Baptist Memorial Hospital DeSoto. He was a member of The Lion's Club and The American Dental Association. Memorial Services were held April 10 at Forest Hill South Chapel. Mr. Gulledge, the widower of the late Mildred Earlene Gulledge, leaves a son, Thomas Gulledge Jr. of Hernando; a sister, Helen Maxcy of Birmingham, Ala.; a brother, Joe Lee Gulledge of Jackson Gap., Ala., and two grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society.

JONES

Lessie G. Jones, 85, of Olive Branch, retired from Bonds Clothing Store, died of heart failure April 6, 2001 at Methodist Healthcare Central. Services were held April 9 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch with burial in Forest Hill East Cemetery. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Olive Branch and the Order of the Eastern Star, and a former member of Audubon Park Baptist Church in Memphis. Mrs. Jones leaves her husband, T.M. Jones; two daughters, Linda Kay Smith of Olive Branch and Karen Jones Martin of Atlanta, Ga.; two son-in-laws, Joe D. Smith of Olive Branch and Robert Martin of Atlanta, Ga., four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family requests that memorials be sent to First Baptist Church or a charity of the donor's choice.

MEACHAM

Jessie Elizabeth McDaniel Meacham, 90, of Olive Branch, formerly of Germantown, died of heart failure April 6, 2001 at Baptist Memorial Hospital DeSoto. Services were held April 10 at Memphis Funeral Home-Poplar with burial in Memorial Park. She was a member of Maples United Methodist Church and a former member of Germantown United Methodist Church, where she served as president of women, former president of Methodist Hospital Auxilary, and worked as a pink lady. Mrs. Meacham, the widow of the late Paul Meacham, leaves two daughters, Patsy McMorris of Olive Branch and Peggy Tomes of Memphis; two sons, Paul T. Meacham Jr. of Matamoras, Pa. and Garrott Brittain Meacham of Mobile, Ala.; two sisters, Annelou Johnson of Doylestown, Pa. and Alice Walker of Senatobia; a brother, John B. McDaniel of Hattiesburg, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The family requests that memorials be sent to Maples United Methodist Church, American Lung Association, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or a charity of the donor's choice.

Henry Mills, 81, of Hernando, retired minister, died of heart failure April 11 at V.A. Medical Center in Memphis. Memorial services were held April 13, 2001 at Brantley Phillips Funeral Home in Hernando. He was an Army Air Force veteran. Mr. Mills leaves his wife, Juanita Mills; a daughter, Patricia Dickey of Hernando, 2 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

MORRIS

Stephen Ray Morris, 20, of Horn Lake, employee of Roadhouse Grill died of heart failure April 5, 2001. Services were held April 8 at Forest Hill South Chapel with burial in Forest Hill South Cemetery. Mr. Morris was a member of First Baptist Church in Horn Lake. He leaves his parents, Gary and Lisa Morris of Horn Lake; one brother, Robert Morris of Horn Lake; his grandparents, Robert and Virginia Quinley of Lake Cormorant, Ray and Patricia Morris of Fairfield Bay, Ark. and 2 great-grandmothers, Lottie Baker of Memphis and Willie Wages of Lake Cormorant. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Glenn’s Chapel Congregational Methodist Church.

Oneta Pearson, 83, of Southaven, died of heart failure April 7, 2001 at Baptist Progressive Healthcare in Southaven. Services were held April 9 at Hernando Funeral Home chapel with burial in Hernando Memorial Park. She was a member of Hernando United Methodist Church. Mrs. Pearson, the widow of John A. Pearson Sr., leaves one daughter, Patricia Pearson of Clinton; one son, John Pearson Jr.; three sisters, Willie MaeKoeltz of Hernando, Dot Mooneyhan of Southaven and Ileta Youngblood of Senatobia; two brothers, Rev. Billy Wayne Stanford of Clinton and T.J. Stanford of Oxford; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

WATERSON

Martha L. Waterson, 60, of Memphis, formerly of Hernando, died of cancer April 9, 2001 at St. Francis Nursing Home in Memphis. Services were held April 13 at Brantley Phillips Funeral Home in Hernando with burial in Grays Creek Cemetery. She was a member of Grays Creek Baptist Church in Hernando. Mrs. Waterson leaves one daughter, Melba Waterson of Memphis; three brothers, Robert Harrell of Hernando, Billy Harrell of Memphis and James Harrell of Jacksonville, Fla and one grandchild.

Armour

Frank Armour, 73, of Southaven, retired from Cruzen Equipment, died of heart failure Oct. 14, 2001 at his home. Services were held Oct. 15 at Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven with burial in McCalips Chapel Cemetery in Selmer, Tenn. He was a member of Holmes Road Church of Christ in Memphis. Mr. Armour leaves his wife, Beatrice Moore Armour. The family requests that memorials be sent to the Holmes Road Church of Christ.
