Funeral services for Olympia Lewis, 41, were held on May 6, 2000 at Union Chapel M. B. Church.

Mrs. Lewis died on April 29, 2000 or cardiac arrest at University Medical Center.

She was a homemaker and a member of Greensboro C. M. E. Church.

Survivors include son, Manuel B. Cooper of Jackson; sisters, Glendia Cooper of Jacksonville, FL, Bettye Cooper, Sandra Miller and Dorothy Cistrunk of Louisville; brother, Howard Cooper of Vicksburg and a special friend, Booker T. Washington of Jackson, MS.

Rev. Eddie B. Robinson officiated at the service with burial in Union Chapel Church.

Beck Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Houston L. Oswalt

Funeral services for Houston L. Oswalt, 89, of Weir, were held on Saturday, May 6, 2000 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.

Mr. Oswalt died on May 4, 2000 at Kilmichael Hospital of heart failure.

He was a retired farmer, a lifelong resident of Weir and a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons, H. L. Oswalt of Jena, LA and Billy Joe Oswalt of Weir; daughters, Rose hunt of Ackerman, Barbra Nicewonger of Weir and Sandra Bates of Weir; brothers, Grover Oswalt of Ackerman, Larkin Oswalt of Weir and Paul Oswalt of Weir; sisters, Bonnie Sue Sledge of Weir , Ella Ruth Gazaway of Bradley, Mary Higgins of Weir and Wilma Black of Ackerman; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

Burial was in Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Houston Oswalt Memorial Fund, % Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Weir.

Nowell Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.

Zeb Rash, Jr.

Funeral services for Zeb Rash, Jr. , 70, of Winston County were held on May 12, 2000 at Mt. Talley M. B. Church.

Mr. Rash died on May 7, 2000 of cancer at Rush Memorial Hospital in Meridian.

He was a member of Mt. Talley M. B. Church and was a construction worker.

Survivors include his wife, Willie Dale Rash of Noxapater; daughters, Weodia Jordan of Louisville and Dalphine Eichelberger of Noxapater; sons, Kenneth Rash of Stallo and Elton Rash of Noxapater; sisters, Ordean Diggs of Detroit, MI, Icylee Matthews of Pittsburgh, PA, Bessie J. Matthews of Detroit, MI and Irene Rankins of Pittsburgh, PA; brother, Harvey Rash of Pittsburgh, PA.

Rev. Tommy Grant officiated at the service with burial in Mt. Talley Cemetery.

Williams & Herring Funeral Home of Louisville was in charge of arrangements.

Eliza Thigpen

Funeral services for Eliza Thigpen, 95, of Meridian, were held on May 6, 2000 at Mt. Salem Missionary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Thigpen died on May 2, 2000 of cardiac arrest at Riley Memorial Hospital of Meridian.

She was a member of Mt. Salem Missionary Baptist Church and was a retired seamstress.

Survivors include four step-daughters, Winnie B. Gavin of Rose Hill, Lou Eva Turner of New Orleans, LA, Aserlean Hambrick of Laurel and Nancy A. Ellison of Flint, MI; step-sons, Easie Thigpen, Webb Thigpen, Rev. Earl Thigpen of Rose Hill, Lemuel Thigpen of Laurel and Willie Thigpen of Detroit, MI; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Rev. Darryl Rush officiated at the service with burial in Anderson Jackson Cemetery.

Beck Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jessie Ruby White

Funeral services for Jessie R. White, 87, of Noxapater were held on Thursday, May 11, 2000 at Noxapater United Methodist Church.

Mrs. White died on May 9, 2000 of heart failure at her residence.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her daughter, Merle Burrage of Noxapater; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Noxapater United Methodist Church.

Rev. Doug Pepper and Rev. Tom Murphy.

Emmette Carl Carr

Funeral services for Emmette Carl Carr, 91, of Winston County, were held on May 26, 2000 at Tilghman Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Carr died on May 23, 2000 of heart failure at Winston Medical Center in Louisville.

He was a farmer/machinist and a member of Masonic Lodge/Member of Eastern Star and a member of East Louisville Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta Carr of Louisville; daughter, Geraldine Carr Hindman of Louisville; son, Don Carr of Arlington Heights, IL; sisters, Maggie Lee Crowell of Meridian, Mildred McCloud, Mable Herrington, Maxine Hurt, Miron Hill and Margaret Rogers of Louisville; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Rev. James Lewis, Rev Tommy Jones, Rev. David Keen and Rev. Calvin Price all officiated at the service with burial in Murphy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Tilghman Funeral Home of Louisville was in charge of arrangements.

Johnny Dee Harmon

Funeral services for Johnny Dee Harmon, 56, of Louisville were held on May 20 at Beck Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Harmon died on May 16, 2000 of cardiac arrest at Winston Medical Center.

He was a truck driver.

Survivors include his mother, Vera Lee Harmon of Louisville; son, Royce Derell Harmon of Louisville; sister, Georgia Felicien of Milwaukee, WI; two grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Rev. Charlie Moore officiated at the service with burial in Memorial Gardens.

Harvey Headd, Sr.

Funeral services for Harvey Headd, Sr. were held on May 25, 2000 at Center Ridge M. B. Church.

Mr. Headd died on May 18, 2000 of pneumonia at Winston County Nursing Home.

He was a retired laborer with Louisville Brick Yard and a member of Center Ridge Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy B. Headd of Louisville; daughters, Julia Mae Crawford of Kansas City, Kansas, Hattie E. Foster of Oakland, CA, Carrie L. Robinson and Martha J. Headd of Berkeley, CA. , Mattie Shields of Boston, MA and Lucy P. Headd of Louisville; son, Harvey Headd, Jr. , of East St. Louis, IL; 13 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Elder Joe Idom officiated at the service with Memorial Garden.

Annie Bell Hoskin

Funeral services for Annie Bell Hoskin , 91, of Louisville were held on May 19, 2000 at Union Chapel M. B. Church.

Mrs. Hoskin died on May 11, 2000 of cardiac arrest at Choctaw County Hospital Hospital.

She was a homemaker and a member of Union Chapel M. B. Chapel.

Survivors include daughters, Martha, Ella Mae, Masarine and Lizzie Dale of Louisville; one sister; 42 grandchildren, 86 great-grandchildren; 27 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Rev. Charles Goss officiated at the service with burial in the church cemetery.
