Graveside services for Cleo "Red" Rice, 64, were held at Black Jack Missionary Baptist Church on July 7, 2000.

Mr. Rice died on June 29, 2000. Funeral services were held on July 5, 2000 at First Bethany Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles, California.

Honorary Pallbearers were deacons of First Bethany Missionary Baptist Church and Black Jack Missionary Baptist Church.

Active pallbearers were Carlos Almonte, Jerry Grant, Herbert Love, Bill Morgan, Carl Reed and Sol Roark.

Pallbearers and flower bearers in Starkville were nephews and nieces.

Pastor Gregory McClain, Sr. and Pastor Robert Branson officiated at the services.

Hampton Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.

Sean Austin Crouch

Funeral services for Sean Austin Crouch, 10, were held on Friday, July 28, 2000.

He died at his home of an accidental drowning.

Survivors include his parents, Allen and Lauryn McDowell Crouch of Noxapater; maternal grandparents, Richard and Thelma McDowell of Baton Rouge, LA; paternal grandmother, Minnie Miller of Ledbetter, KY.
Austin was born in Jackson and attended Hight Assembly of God.

Pallbearers were Ricky Thaggard, Cully Hudspeth, Lynn Rudd and Richard McDowell, Jr.

Wilcox Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Beulah Mae Fulton
Funeral services for Beulah Mae Fulton, 86, were held on Friday, July 28, 2000 at Nowell Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Fulton died on July 25, 2000 of heart failure at Hospice in Austin, Texas.

She was a homemaker and a member of Methodist United Women.

Survivors include a daughter, Julia Moody of Austin, Texas; brothers, Benny Clark of Metairie LA; Bick Clark of Birmingham, AL; sister, Jennie King of Marietta, GA; and two grandchildren.

Harry Gay officiated at the service with burial in Rocky Hill Cemetery in Winston County.

Nowell Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.

Henry Griffin

Funeral services for Henry Griffin, 75, were held on July 29, 2000 at Mt. Nebo M. B. Church.

Mr. Griffin died on July 25, 2000 of heart failure at Neshoba County Hospital in Philadelphia.

Survivors include his wife, Corine Griffin of Philadelphia; daughter, Berlene Griffin of Philadelphia; son, Henry Earl Griffin of Jackson; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Rev. M. C. Thompson, Jr. officiated at the service with burial in Donald Rest Cemetery.

Williams & Herring Funeral Home of Louisville was in charge of arrangements.

Homer Harris

Funeral services for Homer Harris, 81, of Louisville, were held on Monday, August 7, 2000 at Tilghman Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Harris died on August 5, 2000 of a stroke at Winston Medical Center.

He was a farmer and a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Survivors include sisters Ada M. Harris White and Vada Mae Harris Sloan of Louisville and a host of nieces and nephews.

Rev. Arnold Davis officiated at the service with burial in Murphy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Tilghman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Gwendolyn Lampley

Funeral services for Mary Gwendolyn Lampley, 81, of Noxapater were held on Saturday, August 5, 2000 at Noxapater Baptist Church.

Miss Lampley died of cancer at her residence in Noxapater on August 4, 2000.

She was a retired personnel director with Bell Telephone for 45 years.

Survivors include a brother, John Webb Lampley and Bettie Agnes Lampley of Vaughn; sister, Charlye Sue Burton of Noxapater; one niece, two nephews, three great-nieces and one great-nephew.

Rev. Kevin White and Rev. Ken Anderson officiated at the service with burial in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jim Burt, Mason Caraway, Bill Martin, Chris Wells, Billie Gene McNeil, James Coward.

Nowell Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.

Thomas H. Lovorn

Funeral services for Thomas H. Lovorn, were held on July 14, 2000 at Pine Crest Memorial Cemetery in Mobile, AL.

Mr. Lovorn died on July 12, 2000 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Route, LA. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran, a retired chemist for CIBA-Geigy and a native of Louisville.

Survivors include his wife, Jacquelyn A. Lovorn of Baton Rouge, LA; daughters and sons, Renet Lovorn and William Neil Bender of Athens, GA; Lynda Lovorn Bonin and Donald Bonin, Jr of BAton Rouge; son and daughter in law, Stephen and Sallie Beraud Lovorn of Bastrop, LA; five grandchildren, Jonathan Andrew and Kelli Elizabeth Bonin of Baton Rouge; Lee Wells, Jacob Antoine and Jennie Jacquelyn Lovorn of Bastrop, LA.

Memorials may be made to Mary Byrd Perkins Cancer Center, 4950 Essen Lane, Baton Rouge, LA 70809-3482.

Green Oaks Funeral Home of Baton Rouge, LA was in charge of arrangements.

James E. Lowrey

Funeral services for James E. Lowrey, 72, of Louisville were held on August 1, 2000 at First Apostolic Church in Louisville.

Mr. Lowrey died on July 30, 2000 at his home in Louisville of heart failure.

He was a minister and a carpenter. He was a member of First Apostolic Church and he built and pastored numerous churches in the area. He was an avid gardener and outdoorsman.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva Lowrey of Louisville; daughter, Karen Lowrey Coleman and husband Earl of Jackson; sons, Rev. Bobby Lowrey and wife, Mary of Noxapater and Kenneth Lowrey and wife, Clytee of Macon; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sisters, Willie Bankston of Jackson, June Holst of Glen Carbon, IL, Dorothy Crowson of Louisville and Janie Pullen of Jackson; brothers, Aaron Lowrey of Louisville and Elmer "Sonny" Lowrey of Jackson.

Rev. Burlon Commer officiated at the service with Rev. Fred Frazier, Jr. and Rev. Richard Burgett assisting.
Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Tilghman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Billy James Miller

Funeral services for Billy James Miller, 47, of Louisville were held on July 27, 2000 at New Zion M. B. Church.
Mr. Miller died of cardiac arrest on July 23, 2000.

Survivors include his step-father, Archie Kennedy of Louisville; mother Emma Jane Kennedy of Louisville; sisters, Clara Hardin of Louisville; brothers, Walter J. Miller and Willie G. Miller of Louisville; a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Rev. W. L. Hightower officiated at the service with burial in the church cemetery.

Phillip Keith Owens, Sr.

Funeral services for Phillip Keith Owens, Sr. , 52, of Louisville were held on July 29, 2000 at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Owens died on July 23, 2000 of cancer at Riley Memorial Hospital in Meridian.

He was a business owner.

Survivors include daughters, Stephanie Owens of Sumter, SC, Christina Owens, Kathleen Owens of Fond-Du-Lac, WI, and Tiffany Owens of St. Louis, MO; sons, Keith Owens, Jr. of Dallas, Texas, Scotty Owens and Norwood Owens of Sumter, SC; brothers, Bobby Owens, Sr. of Holly Springs, Eddie J. Owens, Everett Carl Owens of Milwaukee, WI and George Owens of Denver, CO; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Rev. Phillip Owens, Jr. officiated at the service with burial in the church cemetery.

Beck Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mildred Purser

Funeral services for Mildred Purser, 78, were held Monday, August 7, at 10 a. m. from the chapel of McClain-Hayes Funeral Home. Rev. Danny Purser and Rev. Jack Garnett officiated. Burial was in Good Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Purser died Friday, August 4. Survivors include daughters, Virginia Purser of Greenville, Margaret Ann Haston of Magnolia, AR, Tera Faye Kiester of Gulfport; sons, Paul Purser of Eupora, Rufus Purser of Carthage and Rev. Danny Purser of Noxapater; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Doris Jean Allen of Pass Christian.

Pallbearers were Steve Haston, Larry Purser, Jerry Purser, Edward James, Bobby Johnson and Tony Parker.

George Willie Taylor

Funeral services for George Willie Taylor were held on July 30, 2000 at Hampton Funeral Chapel.

Mr. Taylor died on July 24, 2000.

Survivors include his wife, Anne Taylor, ten children, Joyce, Will, Red, Mae, Sammie, Debra Ann, Lillian, Rebaby, K. K. and Joe Willie and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Rev. James Boyd officiated at the service.

Ruth Cannon Welborn

Funeral services for Ruth Cannon Welborn, 91, of Louisville were held on Monday, July 31, 2000 at Nowell Funeral Services Chapel.

Mrs. Welborn died of heart failure at Care Center of Louisville on July 29, 2000.

She was a retired clothing broker, a member of First Baptist Church of Louisville and of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include brothers, Joe Cannon and Jack Cannon of Louisville; sister, Jimmie H. Shurden of Louisville and a host of nieces and nephews.

Dr. Don Boone officiated at the service with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Stella Mae Brooks

Funeral services for Stella Mae Brooks, 95, of Eupora, were held on Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church. Mrs. Brooks died of heart failure at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo on August 5, 2000.

She was a homemaker, a lifelong resident who recently moved to the Eupora area and a Primitive Baptist.

Survivors include son, James M. Brooks of Boone, NC; brothers, Charlie Reed of Mobile, Al and Jessie L. Reed of Tennessee; sisters, Bertha Hightower of Ackerman, Plummie Clardy of Eupora, Annie Johnson of Houston, Earline Miller of Eupora and Virginia Chavis of Fair Hope, AL; 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Nowell Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.
