Memorial services were held March 22 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch. Mr. Brown leaves his wife, Carol Brown; a daughter, Cindy Brown-Motroni of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; a son, Michael Brown of Houston; a stepdaughter, Melissa Lance of Olive Branch; a stepson, Brad Lance of Senatobia; two sisters, Sue McCulley of Paragould, Ark., and Jean Webbe of Jonesboro, Ark.; two brothers, Don Brown of Olive Branch and Elvin Brown of Heber Springs, Ark., and three grandchildren. The family requests that memorials be sent to American Cancer Society.

JAMES O. COMBS, 65, of Eagletown, Okla., formerly of Memphis, manufacturing plant manager, died March 11 at Christus St. Michael Health Center in Texarkana, Texas. Graveside services were held March 15 at Combs Cemetery in Leburn, Ky. Evans & Miller Funeral Home in Poteau, Okla., had charge. Mr. Combs leaves his wife, Glenda Combs; three daughters, Sherry Moore of Nesbit, Stephanie Wilson of Canton, and Stacie Marsh of Hernando; a son, Steve Combs of Southaven; two stepdaughters, Tina Hogan of Waxahachie, Texas and Cara Westbury of Midlothian, Texas; a stepson, Boyce Markham of Aurora, Colo.; two sisters, Hope Johnson of Lancaster, Ky., and Gloe Worley of Eagletown; two brothers, Gordon Combs and Vodge Combs, both of Leburn, and seven grandchildren.

FRANK CONNELL Jr., 75, of Memphis, security guard at Glen Alden Community, died March 16 at Methodist Healthcare-North. Services were held March 18 at Family Funeral Care Stage Road Chapel. He was a World War II and Korean War Navy veteran and a member of the Crockett County Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Connell leaves his wife of 55 years, Peggy H. Connell; a daughter, Elisa Layton of Memphis; five sons, Monte Connell of Brownsville, Tenn., Frank Connell III of Memphis, Neil Connell of Olive Branch, Shawn Connell of Bartlett and Shane Connell of Calhoun, Ga.; a sister, Amelia Wortham of Atoka, 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The family requests that memorials be sent to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Services were held March 21 at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member, with burial in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. M. J. Edwards & Sons Funeral Home Whitehaven Chapel had charge. Mrs. Farmer, the widow of Wash Farmer Jr., leaves two daughters, Shirley Townsend of Southaven and Catherine Shelton of Nashville; a son, Robert F. Slocum of Memphis; three sisters, Catherine Burrows of Wichita, Kan., Anna Williams of Alton, Ill., and Mildred Ailsworth of Memphis, eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

JERRY THOMAS FARRIS, 52, of Batesville, formerly of Memphis, clerk for Batesville Package Store, died March 16 at UT Bowld Hospital. Memorial services were held March 23 at his home. Family Funeral Care Summer Avenue Chapel had charge. He leaves a daughter, Jennifer Farris of Southaven; his mother, Helen Farris of Gulfport; a brother, David Farris of Eads; a stepbrother, C. J. Farris of Memphis, and a companion with whom he lived, Jennifer E. Thompson. The family requests that memorials be sent to American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

CLAUDE H. GAYDEN JR., 73, of Sardis, retired heavy equipment operator from Mississippi Department of Transportation, died March 17 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. Services were held March 20 at Hernando Funeral Home with burial in Oakwood Cemetery in Tunica. He was a member of Faith Chapel Holiness Church. Mr. Gayden, the husband of Mary Faye Gayden, also leaves five daughters, Bobbie Floyd and Robbie Parrish, both of Strayhorn, Barbara Brownlee of Batesville, Brenda Howe of Hernando and Patricia Freeman of Como; two sons, Richard Lowell Gayden and James Richard Gayden, both of Sardis; a sister, Gladys Strickland; a brother, Jimmy Lee Gayden of Coldwater, 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Hughes, also leaves three daughters, Rachell Norman and Shirley Earnest, both of Byhalia, and Elaine Marshall of Memphis; a son, James Marshall of Bartlett; a sister, Linda Kidd of Covington, Tenn.; two brothers, Curtis Pugh of Cleveland, Ohio, and Larry Pugh of Memphis; a half-sister, Louise Graber of Atoka, Tenn., 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

James of Greenville, S.C., and Dana H. James of Nashville; a sister, Marijo James Denson of Decatur, Miss., 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family requests that memorials be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

He was a World War II Army veteran, who received five Bronze Stars, two Purple Hearts and a good conduct medal, a Baptist and a member of Caraway (Ark.) Senior Citizens. Mr. New, the widower of Myrtle New, Ruth New and Lucille New, leaves three sons, James E. New of Byhalia, Michael New of Jonesboro, Ark., and Jerry New of Memphis; two sisters, Rossie Privett of Harrisburg and Faye Privett of Payneway, Ark.; a brother, Fred New of Helena, Ark., seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
