Mr. Louis Lester Welch, Jr.

December 1, 2003

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Louis Lester Welch, Jr. , 81, were held at 10 a. m. Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Louisville. The Rev. Don Boone officiated.

A native of Jones County, Mr. Welch was the owner of Welch Enterprises. He worked for Harper Foundry & Machine Company in Jackson and later formed his business, Welch Enterprises. Mr. Welch was a retired United States Air Force sergeant who served during World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Louisville and a member of the Men's No. 2 Sunday School Class. Mr. Welch died Monday, December 1, 2003 at Winston Medical Center in Louisville.

Survivors include his wife, Bebe Nell Welborn Welch of Louisville; two daughters, Candace W. Carr of Memphis, Tenn. , and Totsy Welch Shelton of Kosciusko and five grandchildren.

Porter Funeral Home of Louisville was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lester Ladell Brown

December 2, 2003

Funeral services for Mr. Lester Ladell Brown, 82, were held at 2 p. m. Thursday, December 4, 2003 at Nowell-Tilghman Funeral Home Chapel in Louisville. The Rev. Roy Hawkins officiated. Burial followed in Union Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery in Noxapater.

A native of Kosciusko, Mr. Brown was a resident of Columbus and a former resident of Noxapater. He was a retired office manager who worked for the Mississippi Employment Security Agency from 1961 until 1986, retiring as the manager of the Unemployment Compensation Claims Office in Columbus. Mr. Brown was a World War II veteran, having served in the 6th Marine Division in the United States Marine Corps from June 19, 1940 to July 6, 1946. He was a survivor of Pearl Harbor and received the Purple Heart due to injuries received in the Battle of Okinawa in the Pacific Theatre. Mr. Brown was a member of Union Ridge Baptist Church in Noxapater and the Mississippi Wildlife Federation and National Rifle Association. An avid sportsman and hunter, he was a member of the Lowndes County Wildlife Federation and a past vice president of the organization. Mr. Brown died Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Golden Triangle in Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Genell Brown of Columbus and one son, Lester Arnell Brown of Columbus.

Pallbearers were Johnny Carey Brown, Jr. , Jason Griffith, Joe Griffith, William Lockard, Derrel Traylor and Thomas Toney.

Nowell-Tilghman Funeral Home of Louisville was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mary Ladella Rose Moore

December 2, 2003

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ladella Rose Moore, 23, were held Saturday, December 6, 2003 at Chester Baptist Church. The Rev. Glenn Ellington and Jim Vance officiated. Burial followed in Chester Baptist Church Cemetery.

A native of Ackerman, Mrs. Moore was a member of Chester Baptist Church. Mrs. Moore died Tuesday, December 2, 2003 in Starkville.

Survivors include her mother, Rose Edwards of Ackerman; father, Joe D. Edwards of Ackerman; one son, James David "Jamie" Moore of Ackerman; two brothers, Donald Wayne Edwards of Ackerman and William Oliver Britt III of Goldsboro, N. C. , and one sister, Tonya Wallace of Starkville.

Memorials may be made to Chester Baptist Church.

Mr. James David Moore, Jr.

December 2, 2003

Funeral services for Mr. James David Moore, Jr. , 24, were held Saturday, December 6, 2003 at Chester Baptist Church. The Rev. Glenn Ellington and Jim Vance officiated. Burial followed in Chester Baptist Church Cemetery.

A native of Kosciusko and resident of Ackerman, Mr. Moore was a member of Chester Baptist Church. Mr. Moore died Tuesday, December 2, 2003 in Starkville.

Survivors include his mother, Virginia Moore of Kosciusko; one son, James David "Jamie" Moore of Ackerman; one brother, James Moore of Kosciusko and one sister, Deborah Annette Moore of New Caney, Texas.

Memorials may be made to Chester Baptist Church.

Mr. John B. Raines, Jr.

Tuesday, December 2, 2003

Funeral services for Mr. John B. Raines, Jr. , 81, were held Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville. The Rev. Steve McCullar officiated. Burial followed in Curtis Chapel Cemetery.

A resident of Starkville, Mr. Raines was a retired used car parts salesman and a member of the Starkville Church of God. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion in Columbus. Mr. Raines died Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at his home in Starkville.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Jean Miller Raines of Starkville; three daughters, Peggy Kee of Starkville, Betty Florene Howard of Weir and Fara Sue Brooks of Maben; one brother, Jimmy Raines of Starkville; five sisters, Doris Chesteen, Fay Robinson and Joyce Garnett, all of Starkville, Maxine Condit of Jackson and May Marrow of Daffodil, Texas, and one grandson.

Memorials may be made care of Sarah Raines to help cover funeral expenses for John B. Raines, Jr.

Mr. Arthur Milton Cook

Thursday, December 4, 2003

Funeral services for Mr. Arthur Milton Cook, 69, were held at 11 a. m Saturday, December 6, 2003 at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel in Kosciusko. The Rev. Barry C. Corbett and the Rev. Mark Parnell officiated. Burial followed in Parkway Cemetery in Kosciusko.

A native of Attala County, Mr. Cook was a civil engineer. He graduated from French Camp Academy in 1952 as valedictorian of his class and served on the engineering student council at Mississippi State University, where he earned his bachelor of science degree in civil engineering in 1956. Upon graduation, Mr. Cooks served two years as an ensign in the Coast and Geodetic Survey. Following his military service, he joined the Mississippi State Highway Department where he served as an engineer with the Photogrammetry Division and attained his registration as a professional engineer and land surveyor. Mr. Cook began his private practice in 1966, accepting a position as City Engineer for Kosciusko. He was appointed Attala County Engineer by the Attala County Board of Supervisors a few years later and served in this capacity until his recent retirement to private practice. Mr. Cook was a member of First Baptist Church of Kosciusko and a lifetime member of the Kosciucko Lion's Club.

Survivors include his mother, Verna Wade Cook of Kosciusko; his wife, Josephine Fulcher Cook of Kosciusko; two sons, Arthur Leon Cook of Kosciusko and Michael Olyn Cook of Greenwood; one brother, Boyd Wade Cook of Olathe, Kan. , and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers were the Adult 6 Sunday School Department of First Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to French Camp Academy or First Baptist Church of Kosciusko.

Mr. Daniel Parks Fulcher

Funeral services for Mr. Daniel Parks Fulcher, 81, were held at 2 p. m. Sunday, December 7, 2003 at Robinson Funeral Home Chapel in West Point. The Rev. Terry Partin and the Rev. Walter Simmons officiated. Burial followed in Murphy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Louisville.

A native of Winston County, Mr. Fulcher was a resident of West Point and a retired superintendent at Southern Natural Gas Company. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Navy and a member of Poydras Baptist Church in St. Benard, La. Mr. Fulcher was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 75 in Louisville and a former resident of Louisville who had lived in West Point for the past 20 years. Mr. Fulcher died Friday, December 5, 2003 at North Mississippi Medical Center - West Point.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Fulcher of West Point; three sons, Nick Fulcher of Cabot, Ark. , Stan Fulcher of Picayune and Kim Fulcher of West Point; one sister, Clytee Eaves of Louisville; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the Palmer Home for Children, 912 11th Avenue, Columbus, MS 39701.

Mr. Hermon M. Robertson

Funeral services for Mr. Hermon M. Robertson, 86, were held at 2 p. m. Sunday, December 7, 2003 at Vernon Assembly of God. The Rev. Mark Thompson, the Rev. Mackie Amacker and the Rev. Bobby Joe Butler officiated. Burial followed in Vernon Assembly of God Church Cemetery.

A native of Louisville, Mr. Robertson was a farmer. Mr. Robertson died Friday, December 5, 2003 at his residence in Louisville.

Survivors include his wife, Frances McKinley Robertson of Louisville; one daughter, Patty R. Kemp of Franklin, Tenn. ; two sons, Perry Robertson of Louisville and Billy Don Robertson of Franklin, Tenn. ; four sisters, Mavis Hanna of Louisville, Marion Bateman and Maxine Robertson, all of Louisville, and Margie Gully of Rogers, Ala. ; four brothers, Steven Robertson, Wilbur Robertson and Harold Robertson, all of Louisville, and Bob Robertson of California; nine grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Donnie Robertson, Blake Johnson, Brandon Redus, Perry Redus, Luke Thompson, Mike Robertson, David Thompson, Shane McDaniels, Scott Gregory, Rusty Kemp, Chris Hurd and Drew Robertson.

Mr. Curtis H. Frensley, Sr.

Saturday, December 6, 2003

Funeral services for Mr. Curtis H. Frensley, Sr. were held at 11 a. m. Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at Porter Funeral Home in Louisville. The Rev. Mike Allday and Mr. Steeven Chambliss officiated. Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery in Louisville.

A native of Paris, Tenn. , Mr. Frensley was a corporate meat merchandiser for Malone & Hyde for 30 years. He was a Shriner and a 32nd degree Mason. Mr. Frensley was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served in World War II. Mr. Frensley died Saturday, December 6, 2003 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Roberts Frensley of Louisville; one son, Curtis H. Frensley, Jr. of Tupelo; two brothers, William Allen Frensley and Quincy Gregston, both of Paris, Tenn. ; one grandson and one great grandson.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Dale Holton

Funeral services for Mr. Dale Bolton, 73, will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday, December 11, 2003 at Crossroads United Methodist Church in Lucedale. Brother Clint Ware and the Rev. Nell Maki will officiate. Burial will follow in Crossroads United Methodist Church Cemetery.

A native of Winston County, Mr. Bolton was retired from the United States Army and a Methodist. Mr. Bolton died Saturday, December 6, 2003.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret L. Holton of Lucedale; one son, William Steve Holton of Meridian; one daughter Margaret Gail Pace of Lucedale; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Mr. Charlie Cole

Funeral services for Mr. Charlie Cole were held at 2:00 p. m. on Thursday, June 10, 2004, at Blackwater Baptist Church in DeKalb, MS. Rev. J. T. Windham officiated.

Mr. Cole was a member of Blackwater Baptist Church. He died Thursday, June 3, 2004.

Survivors include his daughter, Helen Bennoman of DeKalb; one son Michael Hudson of DeKalb; three sisters, Willie Cole of Detroit, MI, Fannie Mae McChriston and Eathel Wheeler, both of New York; two grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Dr. Clare Leslie Marquette, Ph. D.

Funeral services for Dr. Clare Leslie Marquette, 100, were held at 10:30 a. m. on Monday, June 7, 2004, at the Nowell-Tilghman Funeral Home Chapel in Louisville. Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery in Louisville.

A resident of Louisville, MS, Dr. Marquette was a retired history professor at the University of Mississippi. He earned a B. A. Cum Laude from Milton College in 1928, an M. A. from the University of Wisconsin in 1936, and a Ph. D. from the University of Wisconsin in 1940. Dr. Marquette began his teaching career at Oconto High School in Oconto, WI, where he taught from 1928-1930; Appleton Senior High School, in Appleton, WI from 1930-1936; Northland College in Ashland, WI from 1940-1946 where he was chairman of the Department of Social Studies and Professor of History; University of Wisconsin (Adjunct Professor of History) during the summers from 1947-1960; and the University of Mississippi (Professor Emeritus of History) from 1946-1972. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a life member of the Southern Historical Society, life member of the State Historical Society of Wisconsin, and a member of Phi Kappa Pi. Dr. Marquette died Friday, June 4, 2004, at his home in Louisville.

Survivors include his brother Charles Marquette of Apache Junction, AR, and his sitters, Janet Garrard, Polly Kennedy, Vermell Young, Maggie Eaves, Johnny Ray Hisaw, Charlene Mayo, and Gloria Raleigh.

Pallbearers were Bruce Burney, Bob Comstock, John Mitchell, Lee Mitchell, Robert Mitchell, and John Taylor Paschal.

Memorials may be made to the Lena Mitchell Marquette Scholarship Fund at the University of Mississippi.
