Ms. Tammy Bryan

October 31, 2010

Funeral services for Ms. Tammy Bryan, 40, were held at 10:00 am November 3, 2010 at Grace Baptist Church. Reverend Chester Carlisle and Reverend Chris Vowell officiated. Burial followed in East Lawn Cemetery in Philadelphia. Ms. Bryan worked at Silver Star Casino. She was also a member of Sandtown United Methodist Church. Ms. Bryan died Sunday, October 31, 2010 at Neshoba County General Hospital in Philadelphia. Survivors include mother Carolyn Bryan, father Bobby Dewayne Bryan, daughter Samantha Withers, brothers Everett Bryan and Darryl Bryan, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Douglas Walker, Claudie Embry, Ray Parham, Randy Bryan, David Bryan, Archie Woodson, Merle Bryan, Jimmy Glenn, Ricky Bryan, and Ricky Ellingburg. John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Services of Philadelphia was in charge of arrangements.

Annie D. Bell Brandon, Mississippi

Annie D. Bell, 96, died Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at Brandon Nursing and Rehab. Visitation was 5 – 8 pm on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Breeland Funeral Home in Canton.

Funeral services were 11 am Friday at Breeland Funeral Home with interment services at 2 pm at Harmony Cemetery in Crystal Springs.

A native of Attala County, Mrs. Bell had lived in Rankin County for 22 years. She was a member of Lake Harbor Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hansel O. Bell and sister, Loraine Anderson.

Survivors include: sisters, Dovie Mae Mangrum of McCool, Cynthia Smith of Van Cleve, and nine nieces and nephews including her primary care giver, Linda L. Phillips.

Mr. Olyn L. Houston

Mr. Olyn L. Houston, 86, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, at Winston County Nursing Home in Louisville. Funeral services were held at 2:00 P. M. Sunday, Nov. 7th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Eddie Painter officiating. Interment was in Ellison Ridge Cemetery.

Mr. Houston was born September 28, 1924, in Winston County, MS. He was an Army and Navy veteran of World War II, and was a retired welder at Taylor Machine Works. He was a member of Ellison Ridge Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Lynn Houston.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine Smith Houston; four daughters, Roslyn Collins of

Trussville, AL, Rhonda Hurt of Jacksonville, FL, Rebekah Reed of Charlotte, NC, and Ramona Green of Starkville, MS; two brothers, Theodore Houston and Otis Houston, both of Louisville, MS; 12 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Mike Fuller, Perry Hemphill, Larry Hemphill, Stanley Eaves, Larry Cockrell,

Edward Stokes, and Johnny Eaves. Honorary pallbearers are Leroy Fulcher, John Moorehead, Ted Eaves, Gary Hill, and Steve Jernigan.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Assn. , the American Kidney Foundation, and the American Diabetes Foundation.

Abbie Jean Caperton Pearl

Abbie Jean Caperton, 80 , went to be with the Lord Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Crossgates River Oaks Hospital in Brandon.

Visitation was at 5-8 pm Tuesday, November 9, 2010 and 10 am until the 11 am funeral service Wednesday, November 10, 2010 all at First Pentecostal Church of Jackson.

Interment followed at Mars Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia at 3 pm. Chancellor Funeral Home of Byram handled arrangements.

Mrs. Caperton was born July 28, 1930 to M. M. and Rosa Lee Burge Capps in Zama, MS. She has lived in the Jackson/Pearl area since 1974 having come from Louisville. Mrs. Caperton was a homemaker and member of First Pentecostal Church north of Flowood.

She is preceded in death by her parents M. M. and Rosa Lee Capps; daughter Lynn Graham; brothers Buster, Millard, and Connard Capps and sisters Ethel Adcock and Amy Whitehead.

Survivors include her son Randy Caperton of Jackson; daughter Mary Anne Chatham (Bill) of Pearl; brother Donald Capps of Moss Point; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren.

Mr. Kenneth Luke

Mr. Kenneth Luke, 71, died Sunday, November 7, 2010, at his home in Louisville.

A memorial service will be held at later date. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Luke was born May 12, 1939, in Greenville, MS. He was a retired welder for Taylor Machine Works, and an Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Martin Luke; three sons, Sam Luke of West Point, MS, and Tim Luke and Wayne Luke, both of Louisville, MS; a sister, Kitty Steadman of Louisville, MS; two brothers, Johnny Luke and Frankie Luke, both of Louisville, MS; and 6 grandchildren.

Mr. Robert Earl Sudduth

Mr. Robert Earl Sudduth, 70, died Saturday November 13, 2010 at North MS Medical Center in Eupora, MS. Funeral Services were held at 2P. M. , Saturday November 20, 2010 at Mt Union M. B. Church, with Bishop George Young officiating. Interment was in Church Cemetery in Eupora, MS.

Mr. Sudduth was born November 18, 1939. He was a retired chef.

He is survived by his mother; Julie Sudduth of Eupora, four sisters Dot Sudduth of Jackson, Freddie Sudduth, Olia Cotton and Betty Ann Varendo all of McComb; seven brothers Pat, Frank, and Harold all of Eupora, MS, Doyle and Douglas both of Jackson, Bruce and Tommie of McComb; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

William, Herring and Hampton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Katie C. Clay

Mrs. Katie C. Clay, 92, died Sunday November 14, 2010 at home in Louisville, MS. Funeral Services were held at noon. , Saturday November 20, 2010 at Mt Union M. B. Church, in Louisville with Dr. Benjamin Pittman officiating. Interment was in Little Member Cemetery .

Mrs. Clay was born in Louisville July 28, 1918. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Little Member Missionary Baptist Church in Macon.

She is survived by two daughters, Lucinda Mitchell of Louisville, MS and Lottie Smith of Omaha, NE; four sons, Nathaniel Clay of Chicago, IL, Rev. Billy Clay of Louisville, MS, Booker T. Clay of Milwaukee, WI and Rev. Larry Clay of Starkville; one sister, Ethel Mosley of Louisville; and two brothers, Dr. Robert Crockett of Jackson, MS and Bobby Cockrett of Preston’ 24 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives.

Beck Funeral Home, Louisville, MS was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lloyd W. Haberle

Mr. Lloyd W. Haberle, 71, died Sunday November 14, 2010 at his residence. Funeral Services were held at 2 P. M. , Wednesday November 17, 2010 at Neshoba Baptist Church, with Rev. Johnny Collins officiating. Interment was in church Cemetery.

Mr. Haberle retired from the U. S. Navy. He worked as a construction welder for many years. He was a mason. Mr. Haberle was a member of Neshoba Baptist Church.

Mr. Haberle is survived by his wife Dorothy Haberle of Philadelphia; three daughters; Dawn Haberle of Philadelphia, Karen Haberle Kilpatrick of Philadelphia, Terri Haberle Richardson of Union; step-daughter Michelle Burrage of Philadelphia; four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews

Mr. Cecil “Sandman” Barrier

Mr. Cecil “Sandman” Barrier, 71, died Monday November 15, 2010 at Neshoba County General Hospital in Philadelphia. Funeral Services were held at 10 A. M. , Wednesday November 17, 2010 at John E. Stephens Chapel, with Rev. Nathan Moore, Rev, Randall Dunaway and graveside Rev. Johnny Peden officiating. Interment was in North Bend United Pentecostal Cemetery, Philadelphia, MS.

Mr. Barrier was a self employed trucker which he owned and operated for 44 years, He was a member of North Bend United Pentecostal Church.

Mr. Barrier is survived by his wife Sylvia Barrier of Philadelphia; two daughters; Ashley Benson and, Charlotte Alford both of Philadelphia; three sons, Michael Scott Barrier and Brian Higginbotham of Philadelphia, Brad Higginbotham of Conehatta, MS; three sisters, Eva McClain of Clinton, MS, Naomi Caldwell of Grand Bay AL and Dorothy Johnson of Philadelphia; two brothers, Naaman Barrier and Thomas Barrier of Philadelphia; eight grandchildren and a host nieces and nephews.

Mr. Samuel Edwards Oliver

Mr. Samuel Edwards Oliver, 50, died Saturday, November 20, 2010, at his home in Louisville, MS. A memorial service was held at 3:30 P. M. Monday, November 22nd, at East Louisville Baptist church, with Rev. Mason Joy officiating. Porter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Oliver was born September 12, 1960, in New Orleans, LA. He was a graduate of Louisville High School and the University of Central Florida. He received his Juris Doctor degree from Florida State University, and was an attorney in Orlando, FL. He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Edwards Oliver.

He is survived by his father, Richard J. Oliver of Orlando, FL; aunt, Bobbie Lee and the late Bill Whitehead of Louisville; uncle, Billy Morris Edwards of Louisville; and a number of cousins.

Mr. Ralph Massey

Mr. Ralph Massey, 77, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 19, 2010, at his home in Louisville, Mississippi, surrounded by his family. Visitation was at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Saturday, November 20, 2010, from 4:00 p. m. until 8:00 p. m. Funeral services were at 2:00 p. m. on Sunday, November 21, 2010, at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Craig Springs Cemetery in Sturgis, Mississippi, with Rev. Eddie Agnew, Rev. Adrian Holley, Rev. Fred Frazier, Jr. , and Rev. Dan Frakes officiating.

Mr. Massey was a retired logger and a member of First Pentecostal Church of Louisville.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Massey of Louisville; one son, Larry and Gail Massey of Louisville; one daughter, Daphne and Robert Lovern of Philadelphia, Mississippi; three grandsons, Drew and Kristie Massey and Josh Massey all of Louisville and Justin Lovern of Philadelphia; one great-grandson, Kade Massey of Louisville; two brothers, Paul and Claudine Massey of Starkville, Mississippi and Felix Massey of Sturgis, Mississippi; one sister, Gladys and Clarence Wiley of Starkville and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, J. D. Massey of Starkville; his mother, Grace Massey O’Kelley of Sturgis, Mississippi; and one brother, Birnes Massey of Ocala, Florida.

Pallbearers will be Drew Massey, Justin Lovern, Josh Massey, Ronnie Massey, Joe Shurden, Jr. , Roy Wood, Michael Hemphill and Bud Hogan.

Mr. William C. “Billy” Pearson

Mr. William C. “Billy” Pearson, 64, passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at Calvert Nursing Home in Calvert, Texas.

Memorial services were be at 2:00 p. m. on Sunday, November 21, 2010, at Hopewell Baptist Church in Choctaw County with Rev. Terrell Mayo and Rev. Terry Mayo officiating. Burial followed in Hopewell Cemetery. Mr. Pearson was a former resident of Louisville, Mississippi.

He is survived by two sisters, Eloise Burnham and Marie Livingston; one step-brother, C. A. “Pete” Simpson; one aunt, Jewell Mayo; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Vercie Mayo and William H. Pearson; two sisters, Vergie Hancock and Frances Piehl; and one brother, Hubert Pearson.

Mr. David Bryan Gross, Sr.

David Bryan Gross, Sr. , a84, distinguished Mississippi attorney and former vice-president of Shell Oil Company, died very peacefully in the loving presence of his children and daughter-in-law on Monday, January 2, 2006, at the Summit at Westlake, an extended car facility in Austin, Texas. Funeral services were held at 10:30 A. M. Thursday, January 5, 2006, at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Cathedral in Jackson. Burial followed in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Laurel.

A native of Oxford, MS, Mr. Gross attended Jones County Junior College and the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He received his law degree from the University of Mississippi in 1947. Elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives while he was still in law school, he served in the legislature from 1948 to 1952. From 1954 to 1982, he worked for Shell Oil Company, beginning as an attorney in the legal department in Shell's New Orleans office, and progressing ultimately to Vice President of Government Relations in Washington, D. C. He retired from Shell in 1982 and moved to Jackson where he continued to practice law until the summer of 2003. During World War II, Mr. Gross enlisted in the Army Air Corps and piloted a B-24 Liberator in 27 bombing missions over Germany, Hungary, Austria, and Yugoslavia. After his plane was shot down on November 22, 1944, he was captured by the Nazis and interned in Stalag Luft I in Barth, Germany, until the P. O. W. camp was liberated by the Russians in Mary 1945. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and a Purple Heart. Mr. Gross was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in Laurel during his youth, and is a member of Galloway United Methodist Church but has regularly attended St. Andrew's Episcopal Cathedral in Jackson for the last ten years of his life.

Mr. Gross was married for 52 years to the late Ellen Janice Rodgers of Louisville. He is survived by his daughter, Ellen Verna Gross of Houston, Texas; son, David Bryan Gross, Jr. of Austin, Texas; and two granddaughters of Austin.

Mr. H. F. "Buster" Richardson

Wednesday, January 4, 2006

Funeral services for Mr. H. F. "Buster" Richardson, 72, were held at 1:00 P. M. Friday, January 6, 2006, at Nowell Funeral Home in Louisville. Rev. Bobby Joe Butler and Rev. Gerald Butler officiated. Burial followed in Jackson Field Cemetery.

A resident of Preston, Mr. Richardson was a retired tree planted and a member of Ebenezer Pentecostal Church. Mr. Richardson died Wednesday, January 4, 2006, at the Winston County Medical Center.

Survivors include his daughter, Wanda Russell of Louisville; two sons, Jerry Richardson and Larry Richardson of Preston; one brother, Houston Richardson of Preston; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Nowell Funeral Home of Louisville was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ruth Mae Hampton Jackson

Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Mae Hampton Jackson, 80, were held at Mt. Sinai M. B. Church in Louisville. Rev. Karl Moore officiated.

Mrs. Jackson was owner and operator of the Woodruff Sandwich Shop and was know as the "Tupperware Lady" throughout Mississippi, Alabama, and Arkansas. She was recently named the Winston County NAACP Mother of the Year for 2005 and was second runner-up for the state of Mississippi NAACP Mother of the Year for 2005. Mrs. Jackson died Friday, January 6, 2006.

Survivors include her eleven children, Calvin Hampton and Vettiest Jean Mason of Louisvile, Jessie L. Jones of Arlington, TX, ElDorado Hampton of Gaithersburgh, MD, Randy R. Hampton of Duncanville, TX, Harvey D. Hampton of Louisville, Theresa Liggans of Austell, GA, Carolyn Fields and Glendaria Hampton of Arlington, TX, Frederick M. Hampton of Douglasville, GA, and Margo Hearns of Louisville; two brothers, David Harris of Pasadena, CA, and Randolph Harris of Milwaukee, WI; two sisters, Henry Mae Lewis of Louisville and Dorothy Armstrong of Clarksdale, MS; 30 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Hampton Funeral Home of Louisville was in charge of arrangements.
