Mrs. Margie F. Long

Mrs. Margie F. Long 53, passed away on Thursday, November 25, at her residence.

She was retired due to illness. Before she retired she was manager of Kentucky Fried Chicken, where she worked for thirteen years. She also worked for Hardee’s for seven years. Mrs. Long was a member of Assembly of God.

Funeral services were held at John E. Stephens Chapel at 3 P. M. Sunday. November 28, 2010 and burial following in Bond Baptist Cemetery in Philadelphia, MS.

Officiating ministers were Rev. John Stephens, Rev Gary Walton and Rev, J. D. Jones.

Mrs. Long is survived by her husband of 31 years, Lester Long of Philadelphia; stepdaughters Dian Hemphill of Louisville, MS and Judy Pettey of Philadelphia; sons, Jeff Long, Josh Long, and Jessie Long all of Philadelphia; stepsons, Larry Long, Ricky Long, Danny Long, Randy Long, and Marty Long, all of Philadelphia; sister, Wyvette Harvey of Philadelphia; brothers, Terry Smith and Earl Smith of Philadelphia; 25 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

The grandsons served as pallbearers.

John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Coleen White

Ms. Coleen White, 65, passed away on Monday November 15, 2010 at Winston County Nursing Home.

Mrs. White was a member of Jerusalem Temple in Philadelphia.

Funeral services were held Calvary Apostolic Church, Louisville, MS Saturday November 20, 2010 at 11 A. M. Sunday, and burial following in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Officiating minister was Elder James A. Young.

Mrs. White is survived by one daughter, Jerri Harrington of Louisville; six sisters, Nancy Johnson, Dr. Mary White of Haines City FL. , Rachel Williams of Midway, AL, Odeen White of Newark, NY, Clara Hudson of Louisville, and Roxie Boyd of Philadelphia, MS; three brothers, Frank White of Noxapater, MS, Randy Mays of Louisville, MS and Jerome White of Meridian; and a host of other relatives.

William, Herring and Hampton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. James Russell

Mr. James Russell 76, passed away on Friday November 19, 2010 at Winston County Nursing Home.

He was a retired laborer. Mr. Russell was a member of Agape Baptist Church in Louisville, MS.

Funeral services were held Agape Baptist Church, Louisville Saturday, November 24, 2010 at 1 P. M. Wednesday, and burial following in Union Chapel Cemetery. Officiating minister was Rev. Robert Brownlee.

Mr. Russell is survived by one daughter, Ruby Perry of Louisville; one son, Jimmy C. Miller of Louisville; one sister, Sammie Cistrunk of Louisville; two brothers, John Henry Hickman of Louisville, and Tyrone Hickman of Clinton, MS; a host of grandchildren great grandchildren also nieces and nephews.

Beck Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn McCool Ray

Evelyn McCool Ray died November 25, 2010 at Hospice Ministries, Ridgeland MS.

Visitation was Saturday, November 27, 2010 from 9:00 – 11:00 at Lakewood Funeral Home in Jackson and visitation Saturday, November 27th from 1:30 - 2:30 and service followed at Rural Hill United Methodist in Winston County.

Mrs. Ray was born March 19, 1922 to Robert C. (Bob) and Estelle McCool. She married John Freeman Ray (now deceased) and lived in the Rural Hill Community in Winston County most of her life. She later lived in Williamsville Community near Kosciusko and then Clinton for about 20 years. She enjoyed her family and planning family time, gardening, cooking, traveling and doing for others. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and loved her Lord.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Freeman Ray, parents, and siblings – R. T. McCool and wife Sara, Clyde McCool and wife Emma Ruth, Laura McCool and Dee McCool.

Mrs. Ray is survived by her children John W. Ray and wife Iva, Dianne Ray Tripp and husband Ben both of Clinton and Annette Ray Reiter and husband Jeff of Madison, Grandchildren – Kip Ray, Corey Ray, Nicole Ray Booker, Ben Tripp Jr. , Robert Tripp, Amanda Tripp Price, Rachel Daniels Shoemaker and Luke Daniels and twelve great grandchildren. She has two devoted sisters, Nella Staten of Clinton and Grace Luckett of Farmhaven and Maxine McCool (sister in law) of Noxapater and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers were her grandsons.

Special thanks to all who have prayed and cared for us during our journey. Memorials may be made to Rural Hill United Methodist Church or any charity of your choice.

Mr. Steve Albert Mayo

Mr. Steve Albert Mayo, 88, passed away on Friday, November 26, 2010, at Mississippi State Veteran’s Home in Kosciusko, Mississippi. Visitation was at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Saturday, November 27, 2010, from 4:30 p. m. until 7:00 p. m. Funeral services were at 2:00 p. m. on Sunday, November 28, 2010, at the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jay Murphey officiating. He was a retired carpenter and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Mr. Mayo answered the call of his country during the Korean Conflict and during World War II to serve in the United States Army.

He is survived by five nieces, three nephews, and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, Steve D. and Eugenia Scott Mayo; three brothers, Loyce, Eldred, and James O. Mayo; and three sisters, Lillie Rose Mayo, Eunice Mayo and Opal VanLandingham.

Pallbearers were Lester Griffin, Van Tharp, Barry VanLandingham, Chris VanLandingham, Neil Gregory, and Josh Mitchell.

Memorials may be made to Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Kay Black, 3942 Shiloh Road, Louisville, MS 39339. Nowell-Massey Funeral Home, 724 North Columbus Avenue, Louisville, MS is handling the arrangements.

Mrs. Maggie Sellers Haggard

Mrs. Maggie Sellers Haggard, 98, died Sunday, November 28th, 2010, at Winston County Nursing Home in Louisville. Funeral services were held at 1:00 P. M. on Wednesday, Dec. 1st, at First Baptist Church, with Rev. Arthur Story officiating. Interment was in Ellison Ridge Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Haggard was born March 11, 1912, in Winston County, MS. She was the daughter of Fennie Reed and Guy J. Sellers. Mrs. Haggard made her home in Noxubee County until she moved back to Louisville in 1970. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years and was very involved in W. M. U. work. In 1984, she received a certificate for her five years as Associational W. M. U. Director for Winston County. During this time she helped several churches get a W. M. U. started. In 1990, she received a diploma for completion of the W. M. U. Leadership courses. Mrs. Haggard was also a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, the Garden Club and Music Club. She was a devoted prayer warrior for her family, friends, and her church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Haggard; a daughter, Katheryn Haggard; a brother Audrey Sellers, and four sisters, Mavis Wright, Avis Hill, Minnie Mae Eaves, and Eunice Eaves.

She is survived by four daughters, Jane (Carl) Baggett of St. Louis, MO, Judy (Wayne) Bolin of Brooksville, MS, Carolyn (J. D. ) Pugh of Brooksville, MS, and Cindy Haggard of Louisville; a son, Donald (Annette) Haggard of Parsons, TN; three sisters, Marvine Kelly of Pascagoula, MS, Gwendolyn (Clyde) Burrell of Slidell, LA, and Modean Moore of California; 23 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Carl A. Baggett, Don Pugh, James E. (Rusty) Pugh, Jim Haggard, Printz Bolin, and James Haggard (Jay) Bolin.

Memorials may be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas offering at First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 547, Louisville, MS, 39339.

Mrs. Bonnie Taylor Ellis

Mrs. Bonnie Taylor Ellis, 91, passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2010, at home with her family in Jackson, Mississippi. Visitation was held at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Tuesday, November 30, 2010, from 4:00 p. m. until 8:00 p. m. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p. m. on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at Poplar Flat Baptist Church in Louisville, MS. Interment will follow in the Poplar Flat Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Eugene Dobbs and Rev. Jonathan Peoples officiating.

She was a retail clerk with TWL and a member of Poplar Flat Baptist Church and the WMU.

Mrs. Ellis is survived five daughters: Margie Bell of Jackson, Mississippi, Ellen Dane and Wayne Prisock of Madison, Mississippi, Glenda and John W. Baswell of Ackerman, Mississippi, Sandra and Lavon Grace of Byram, Mississippi, and Connie Greer of Richton, Mississippi; one sister, Gladys Merritt and one brother, Ester Taylor both of Louisville, Mississippi; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Leonard Ellis; her parents, John B. and Virgie Bagwell Taylor; four brothers, Burtron, J. D. , Freeman, and Morris Taylor; and three sisters, Allie Mae Cockrell, Mattie Doris and Dessie Alene Taylor.

Pallbearers will be Michael Grace, William Bell, Harris Bell, John Edd Baswell, Steve Prisock, and Preston Grace. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Dale Vance, Louis Shepard, Rick Nix, and Ben Stutson. Memorials may be made to the Poplar Flat Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Roy Roberts, 128 McMinn Circle, Louisville, MS, or to the American Heart Association. Nowell-Massey Funeral Home, 724 North Columbus Avenue, Louisville, MS is handling the arrangements.

Mrs. Mary Lou Miller

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Lou Miller, 81, were held at 1 p. m. Monday, April 19, 2004 at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Louisville. The Rev. W. L. Hightower officiated. Burial followed in New Zion Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

A native of Winston County, Mrs. Miller was a homemaker. She was a member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Miller died Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at her home in Louisville.

Survivors include five daughters, Sarah Holland, Mary A. Rubin and Bonnie Hudson, all of Flint, Mich. , Diannie Grissom of Louisville and Pearlie Johnson of Hattiesburg; three sons, Charles Miller, Johnny Miller and Terry Miller, all of Flint, Mich. ; three sisters, Nadine Eiland of East St. Louis, Ill. , Elouise Foster of Cleveland, Ohio and Henrietta Moore of Reform; three brothers, Johnnie Eiland, Roosevelt Eiland and McArthur Eiland, all of East St. Louis, Ill. ; 18 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Ida Mae Bennett

Friday, April 16, 2004

Funeral services for Mrs. Ida Mae Bennett, 73, were held at 11 a. m. Friday, April 23, 2004 at Unity Missionary Baptist Church in Louisville. The Rev. L. B. Hathorn officiated. Burial followed in Mt. Sinai Cemetery in Louisville.

A native of Louisville, Mrs. Bennett was a homemaker. She was a member of Unity Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Bennett died Friday, April 16, 2004 at her home in Louisville.

Survivors include three daughters, Christine Coleman and Frankie Johnson, both of Louisville, and Edna Varnado of Oakland, Calif. ; four sons, Will Bennett, Pete Bennett, Johnny Bennett and J. W. Bennett, all of Louisville; three sisters, Lee Vicie Houston, Lily Mae Price and Clara Morgan, all of San Francisco, Calif. ; three brothers, Elbert Gray and Odel Gray, both of San Francisco, Calif. , and Robert Gray of Mobile, Ala. , and 17 grandchildren.

Mr. Henry Ford

Funeral services for Mr. Henry Ford, 79, were held at 2 p. m. Friday, April 23, 2004 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Louisville. The Rev. Roosevelt Gage officiated. Burial followed in Oliver Cemetery.

A native of Louisville, Mr. Ford was a retired logger. He was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. Mr. Ford died Friday, April 16, 2004 at Winston Medical Center in Louisville.

Survivors include his wife, Eliza Ford of Louisville; seven daughters, Bertha Yarbrough, Daisy Ford and Anita Coleman, all of Louisville, Faye Dotson and Walterine Jones, both of Sturgis, Mary Armstead of Birmingham and Barbara Courtney of Jackson; six sons, Billy Ford, Allen Ford and Marvin Ford, all of Louisville, Jimmy Ford of Chicago, Ill. , Johnnie Ford of Des Moines, Iowa, and Howard Ford of Riverdale, Ga. ; one sister, Mae Bell Eiland of Louisville; 37 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren.

Mr. Willie Reese Arterberry

Funeral services for Mr. Willie Reese Arterberry, 85, were held at 2 p. m. Saturday, April 24, 2004 at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Louisville. The Rev. L. B. Hathorn officiated. Burial followed in Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Louisville.

A native of Louisville, Mr. Arterberry was a farmer. He was a member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Arterberry died Saturday, April 17, 2004 at his home in Louisville.

Survivors include nine daughters, Ella Mae Evans of Weir and Ruthie Smith, Dorothy Willis, Beatrice Miller, Bessie Mullins, Mary Ann Miller, Velma McGee, JoTinea Arterberry and Coretha Hardin, all of Louisville; two sons, Freddie C. Arterberry and Frank Arterberry, both of Louisville; four sisters, Annie Mae Davis of Denver, Colo. , Katie Mae Evans of Weir, Josephine Fonder of Kosciusko and Dossie Hatcher of Jackson; two brothers, Charlie Fair of New Jersey and John Arterberry of Louisville; 26 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Virgie Lee Baker

Funeral service for Mrs. Virgie Lee Baker, 88, were held at 11 a. m. Saturday, April 24, 2004 at Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Louisville. Dr. Benjamin M. Pittman officiated. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Louisville.

A native of Louisville, Mrs. Baker was a homemaker. She was a member of Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Baker died Saturday, April 17, 2004 at Winston Medical Center in Louisville.

Survivors include her husband, Ezra Baker Sr. of Louisville; one daughter, Victoria Goss of Louisville; three sons, Walter Baker of Louisville, Ezra Baker Jr. of Columbus and DeAngelas Baker of Jackson; two sisters, Francis Doss and Maude Coburn, both of Louisville; three brothers, J. D. Gladney, Marvin Lynch and DeCalvin Lynch, all of Chicago, and 11 grandchildren.

Mr. Isaac Joel "Ike" Mink

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Isaac Joel "Ike" Mink, 65, were held at 1 p. m. Wednesday, Aril 21, 2004 at West Point Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Dale Funderburg officiated.

A native of Red Bay, Ala. , and resident of West Point, Mr. Mink was a carpenter. Mr. Mink died Sunday, April 18, 2004 at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point.

Survivors include one son, Patrick Mink of Pella, Iowa; his mother, Linus K. Barnes of Louisville; two sisters, Judy Bouchillon of Louisville and Rebecca McMullin Davis of McComb, Mich. , and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Arlis O'Brian, Boyd O'Brian, Randy Bramlett, Jesse Mays, Daniel Davis and Joshua Davis. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Ed Miller, Dr. Andrew Wartak, Clayton Pruett, Ronnie Moore and his many friends.

Robinson Funeral Home of West Point was in charge of arrangements.
