Leah Covington Schoolar

August 2, 2003

Services for Mrs. Leah Covington Schoolar, 100, were held at 10:00 a. m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at Rena Lara Baptist Church in Rena Lara, with Rev. Herman Furniss officiating. Burial followed in Marks Cemetery in Marks.

Mrs. Schoolar was born November 22, 1902 in Attala County. She attended Blue Mountain College. She was a member of Rena Lara Baptist Church, active in the Home Demonstration Club, and supportive of educational progress.

She died of congestive heart failure, on Saturday, August 2, 2003 at the Village Health Center in Houston, Texas.

Survivors include three sons, Bronson Adrian Schoolar of Stanton, Kentucky, Joseph Clayton Schoolar of Houston, Texas, and Larry Leon Schoolar of Dunwoody, Georgia; one brother, Hughes Covington of Wayne, Arkansas; one sister, Imogean Racely of Memphis, Tennessee; twenty grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adrian T. Schoolar; two daughters, Josephine Leah Schoolar and Mary Elizabeth Clark; and one son, Daniel Hughes Schoolar.

Family requests that memorials be sent to Rena Lara Baptist Church in Rena Lara.

Arrangements were made by National Funeral Home in Clarksdale.

Mrs. Willie Sue Thames Coleman

July 26, 2003

Services for Mrs. Willie Sue Thames Coleman, 40, were held at 1:00 p. m. on Thursday, July 31, 2003 at Pleasant Ridge M. B. Church in Noxapater. Burial followed in Friendship Cemetery in Gholson.

She died from injuries received in an automobile accident on Saturday, July 26, 2003 in Choctaw County.

Survivors include her mother, Ethel Thames of Louisville; two daughters, Latoya Thames of Flowood and Latericia Thames of Weir; three sisters, Veterine Thames and Flora Harrington, both of Louisville, and Ethel B. May of Brooksville; six brothers, Lenard Thames, Willie G. Thames, Amos Thames, David Charles Thames, and Frederick Thames, all of Louisville; five grandchildren; aunts; uncles; cousins; and other relatives and friends.

Arrangements were made by Beck Funeral Home in Louisville.

Rev. Robert L. Jones

August 6, 2003

Rev. Robert L. Jones, 80, retired minister, died Wednesday, August 6, 2003, at his residence in Florence. Services were held at 2 p. m. Friday, August 8, 2003 at the Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home chapel with burial in Sinai Cemetery in Florence.

Rev. Jones pastored several churches in Mississippi in his 45-year ministry. He served as Chaplain for the Baptist Hospital for 14 years. He was a US Army Veteran, serving in World War II, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Rev. Jones was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Willie Frances Jones; one son, Glynn Jones and his wife, Jean of Louisville; one daughter, Sylvia Humphreys and her husband, Thomas of Newton; three brothers, Paul Jones of Florence, David Jones of West Point, and Ira Jones of Jackson; two sisters, Mary Sue Alvarez and Betty Jean Wright both of Florida; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Ministries, 455 Towne Center Blvd., Ridgeland, MS or the charity of the donor's choice.

Mr. Hosea Franklin Kemp

August 10, 2003

Services for Mr. Hosea Franklin Kemp, 82, were held at 11:00 a. m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at Noxapater Baptist Church in Noxapater, with Bro. Wayne Sanders officiating and Bro. Kevin White assisting. Burial followed in Mt. Cannel Cemetery in Noxapater.

Mr. Kemp was born November 27, 1920. As a long time resident of Winston County, Mr. Kemp was a member of Noxapater Baptist Church where he was a past deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was the owner of Noxapater Hardware where the local gentlemen would gather each morning for a cup of coffee. He was also World War II Veteran.

He died on Sunday, August 10, 2003 at the Anderson Hospital in Noxapater.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Johnson Kemp of Noxapater; two sons, Jimmy Wayne Kemp and his wife Peggy Kemp of Noxapater; Randy Kemp; 2 stepsons, William Johnson and Patty Johnson of Louisville, Johnny Johnson and his wife Sheryl Johnson of Mendenhall; one sister, Bobbie Kemp Hicks of Meridian; four grandchildren and six step grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and four step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred "Millie" Quinn Kemp; and one granddaughter, Lisa Kemp Mosley.

Pallbearers were the deacons of Noxapater Baptist Church, and the Sunday School Class will be the honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Noxapater Baptist Church.

Arrangements were made by Nowell-Tilghman Funeral Home in Louisville.

Mrs. Sara Boykin Vanlandingham

August 11, 2003

Graveside services for Mrs. Sara Boykin Vanlandingham, 83, were held at 11 a. m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2003 at Salem Cemetery, with Rev. Allen Mapp and Bro. Glenn Miller officiating.

Mrs. Vanlandingham was born December 8, 1919 in the Lynn Creek Community. She attended Lynn Creek School and graduated from Brooksville High School, where she played basketball. She was an active member of West Side Baptist Church in Macon.

She died on Monday, August 11, 2003 at the West Point Community Nursing Home.

Survivors include three daughters, Sandra V. Clark of Macon, Linda Vanlandingham of Columbus, and Carolyn Rogers and husband Paul of Kingston, Georgia; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Family requests that memorials be made to Central Academy.

Arrangements were made by Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon.

Mr. Larry Coker

August 10, 2003

Services for Mr. Larry Coker, 51, were held at 10:00 a. m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at First United Methodist Church in Macon, with Rev. D. R. Ragsdale and John Kitrell officiating. Burial followed in Shuqualak Cemetery.

Mr. Coker was born September 12, 1951 in Shuqualak. He attended Shuqualak Elementary School and graduated from Noxubee High School. He was a member of Shuqualak Baptist Church, but attended First United Methodist Church in Macon. Mr. Coker was a professional truck driver for Temtco Steel of Louisville for 15 years.

He died on Sunday, August 10, 2003 at the Noxubee General Hospital in Macon.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie B. Coker of Macon; two daughters, Stacey and Coker of Macon; his mother, Mrs. Syble Coker of Shuqualak; three sisters, Shirley Boykin and Carolyn Higgenbotham of Macon, and Glenda J. Coleman of Shuqualak; and one brother, Neal Coker of West Point.

Family requests that memorials be sent to Central Academy or First United Methodist Church.

Arrangements were made by Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon.

Mr. Charles D. Roberson

August 5, 2003

Services for Mr. Charles D. Roberson, 76, were held at 2:00 p. m. on Saturday, August 9, 2003 at Antioch M . B. Church in Louisville with Rev. L. L. Logan officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Roberson was born August 13, 1947 in Louisville, and was a member of Antioch M . B. Church.

He died of cancer on Tuesday, August 5, 2003 in his home.

Survivors include his mother, Frankie L. Roberson of Louisville; one son Jessie Roberson of Louisville; three sisters, Gwen Dailey, Marilyn R. Tillery, Maxine Hudson all of Louisville; two brothers, Bernard Roberson and Clifford Roberson both of Louisville; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements were made by Beck Funeral Home in Louisville.

Sharronda LaShea Idom

August 5, 2003

Services for Sharronda LaShea Idom, 34, were held at 2:00 p. m. on Friday, August 8, 2003 at Mt. Sanai M. B. Church in Louisville with Rev. Preston Coleman officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

She died from injuries received in an automobile accident on Tuesday, August 5, 2003.

She was born July 24, 1969 in Louisville and was a member of Mt. Sanai M. B. Church.

Survivors include her father, Silas U. Smith of Carthage; three sons, Ryan, Justin, and Bryce, all of Louisville; two sisters, Ronnet Williams of Louisville and Jessica Lloyd of Carthage; and two brothers, Ronnel Williams of Horn Lake and Jeremy Lloyd of Carthage.

Arrangements were made by Beck Funeral Home in Louisville.

Margaret Roberts Porter

April 30, 2003

Funeral services for Margaret Roberts Porter, 81, were held Friday, May 2, 2003 at 4 p. m. at the Nowell-Tilghman Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery. Porter died April 30, 2003 at the Winston County Nursing Home.

Porter was born March 10, 1922. She was a store clerk for the Sewing Center and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Aberdeen.

Porter is survived by two daughters, Jean Parks of Aberdeen and Sara Goodin of Louisville; four brothers, Sam Roberts of North Carolina, Billy Roberts of Louisville, Johnny Roberts of Baton Rouge, LA and Olyn Roberts of Louisville.

Nowell-Tilghman Funeral Home of Louisville was in charge of arrangements.

Walter Van Jernigan

April 30, 2003

Funeral services for Walter Van Jernigan, 84, were held Saturday, May 3, 2003 at 11 a. m. at the First United Methodist Church in Macon. Bro. Bobby Joe Butler and Bro. Allen Mapp officiated. Burial followed in Oddfellows Cemetery. Jernigan died April 30, 2003 at the Baptist Memorial Golden Hospital.

Jernigan was born August 31, 1918. He was a native of Mashulaville and attended Mashulaville school as a youth. He married Merle McKinley august, 15, 1936. He was a retired ranch manager from Noxubee County. He was a member of the Mississippi Livestock Association, Boy Scouts of America, Magnolia Club, and was a Macon Lion's Club Member for 20 years.

Jernigan is survived by his wife, Merie Jernigan of Macon; three sons, Walter Ervin Jernigan of Sharpsburg, GA, Henry Douglas "Hank" Jernigan of Brooksville, David Phillip Jernigan of Millport, AL; sister, Mary Winfred Parks of Alvin, Ok; two brothers, Marion Jernigan of Mashulaville, and John Jernigan of Tupelo; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren

Cockrell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Charles A. McAdams

May 1, 2003

Funeral services for Charles A. McAdams, 84, were held Saturday, May 3, 2003 at 11 a. m. at the Ackerman Church of Christ. Jimmy Dendley and Ed Casteel officiated. Burial followed in Antioch Methodist Cemetery. McAdams died May 1, 2003.

McAdams was born December 23, 1918. in Ackerman. He was a sawmill worker and farmer. He was a member of the Ackerman Church of Christ and a U. S Army Veteran.

Memorials may be made to Ackerman Church of Christ.

McAdams is survived by one son, Winky McAdams of Grenada; two daughters, Linda McClure of Ackerman, and Charlisa M. Bowie of Ackerman; three brothers, James McAdams of Ackerman, Grady McAdams of Memphis, TN, and Billy McAdams of Jackson; three sisters, Inez Taylor of Ackerman, Irene Edwards of Ackerman, and Emily Fondren of Mathiston.

Nowell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Charlie Triplett

Monday, December 15, 2003

Funeral services for Mr. Charlie Triplett, 79, were held at 11 a. m. Saturday, December 20, 2003 at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Louisville. Dr. B. M. Pittman officiated. Burial followed in Memorial Garden Cemetery in Louisville.

A native of Winston County, Mr. Triplett was a retired construction worker and a member of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and a member of the male chorus. Mr. Triplett died Monday, December 15, 2003 at his home in Louisville.

Survivors include his wife, Sallie Triplett of Louisville; three daughters, Mary Ann Hopkins of Louisville, Mary Hathorn of Olive Branch and Joan Fry of Chicago, Ill. ; four sons, Wesley Lewis, Bobby Triplett and Donnie Ray Triplett, all of Louisville, and Charles Triplett of Chicago, Ill. ; three sisters, Martha L. Ingram and Essie B. Wraggsm both of Louisville, and Sue Ann Hopkins of St. Louis, Mo. ; seven brothers, Lee Roy Triplett, Harvey Triplett and Herbert Ray Braggs, all of Louisville, Albert Triplett of Milwaukee, Wisc., Willie B. Webb of New York, Lawrence Norwood of Detroit, Mich., and W. T. Norwood of Greenwood; 19 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Beck Funeral Home of Louisville was in charge of arrangements.
