Mr. Melvin M. Howard

Tuesday, December 30, 2003

Funeral services for Mr. Melvin M. Howard, 85, were held at 3 p. m. Wednesday, December 31, 2003 at Porter Funeral Home in Louisville. The Rev. Franklin Smith officiated. Burial followed in Indian Springs Cemetery.

A native of Winston County, Mr. Howard was a retired electrician for the City of Philadelphia and a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. He was a member of Indian Springs Assembly of God. Mr. Howard died Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at Rush Hospital in Meridian.

Survivors include one daughter, Walterine Bradford of Louisville; two sons, Willie Howard of Noxapater and Rudolph Howard of Philadelphia; nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Indian Springs Assembly of God.

Porter Funeral Home of Louisville was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Samuel Davis Slaughter

Funeral services for Mr. Samuel Davis Slaughter, 76, were held at 2 p. m. Thursday, January 1, 2004 at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Philadelphia. The Rev. Harold Coburn, Jr. officiated. Burial followed in Donald Rest Cemetery.

A native of Neshoba County, Mr. Slaughter was retired from Yates Construction Company. Mr. Slaughter died Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at Rush Memorial Hospital in Meridian.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Slaughter of Philadelphia; three daughters, Gladys Jefferies, Jennifer Lynn and Nola Mae Johnson, all of Philadelphia; two sons, Paris Slaughter and Larry Collier, both of Jackson; three sisters, Ola B. Morris, Margarette Scott and Christine Clemons, all of Philadelphia; one brother, Sonny Slaughter of Philadelphia and a host of grandchildren.

Williams and Herring Funeral Home of Louisville was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Helen H. Boydstun

Wednesday, December 31, 2003

Funeral services for Mrs. Helen H. Boydstun, 74, were held at 11 a. m. Friday, January 2, 2004 at Porter Funeral Home in Louisville. The Rev. Doug Herring, the Rev. Paul Brown and the Rev. Terry Clark officiated. Burial followed in Good Hope Cemetery in Louisville.

A native of Winston County, Mrs. Boydstun was a member of Riverwood Bible Church in Jackson. She served as a missionary to the Philippines for 48 years, with her early years spent with a primitive tribe on the Island of Palawan where she assisted in putting their language into writing and getting the Palawano New Testament into print. For more than 30 years of her ministry, she taught in the mission's schools, training young people for Christian service. This year, In recognition of her contribution to Christian missions in the Philippines, more than 700 people gathered on the school campus as the girls' dorm was named Boydstun Hall. Mrs. Boydstun served on the board of her mission, the Christian Training and Missionary Fellowship, as secretary and treasurer. Mrs. Boydstun died Wednesday, December 31, 2003 at Rush Hospital in Meridian.

Survivors include five sisters, Lillian Dilworth of Westland, Mich., Elizabeth Bagwell of Bruce, Agnes Worrell of Ackerman, Ruth Vonkohn of Macon and Margaret Stout of Starkville.

Memorials may be made to the Christian Training and Missionary Fellowship, P. O. Box 606, Corydon, IN 47112.

Mrs. Rubye Palmer Sullivan

Funeral services for Mrs. Rubye Palmer Sullivan, 93, were held at 2 p. m. Saturday, January 3, 2004 at Murphy Creek Baptist Church in Louisville. The Rev. Terrell Stringer, the Rev. Rob Faulk and the Rev. Walter Simmons officiated. Burial followed in Murphy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Louisville.

A resident of Louisville, Mrs. Sullivan was a homemaker. She was a member of Murphy Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Sullivan died Wednesday, December 31, 2003 at her home in Louisville.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy Rogers and Bonnie Burks, both of Louisville; two sons, Johnny Sullivan and Jakie Sullivan, both of Louisville; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were James Carter, Curtis Quinn, Keith Rogers, Lance Sullivan, Robbie Sullivan and Shane Sullivan.

Nowell-Tilghman Funeral Home of Louisville was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Eugene Collier

Thursday, January 1, 2004

Funeral services for Mr. Eugene Collier, 91, were held at 10 a. m. Saturday, January 3, 2004 at Welch Funeral Home Chapel in Starkville. The Rev. Prentiss Gordon and the Rev. Wayne Sanders officiated. Burial followed at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church Cemetery.

A native of Winston County, Mr. Collier was a resident of Starkville and a retired worker with the City of Starkville Street Department. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge Post 365 and VFW Post 5573. Mr. Collier died Thursday, January 1, 2004 at Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville.

Survivors include one son, Bill G. Collier of Starkville; one daughter, Bertie Ruth Weeks of Jackson and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.

Welch Funeral Home of Starkville was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mary Ellen Johnson

Thursday, January 1, 2004

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ellen Johnson, 67, were held at 2 p. m. Monday, January 5, 2004 at Nowell-Tilghman Funeral Home Chapel in Louisville. The Rev. Charles Moody and the Rev. Jerry Lundy officiated. Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery in Louisville.

A resident of Louisville, Mrs. Johnson was retired from the State of Mississippi Department of Human Services. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a WMU member. Mrs. Johnson died Thursday, January 1, 2004.

Survivors include two daughters, JoEllen Johnson and Patricia Winstead, both of Louisville; one son, Stan Johnson of Louisville; one sister, Anna Jo Wilkes of Louisville; one brother, Billy Watson of Louisville and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Charlie Wilkes, Joey Lowery, Jacob Lowery, Pete Johnson, Jason Wright and Donnie Graham.

Nowell-Tilghman Funeral Home Louisville was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mary Louise Marenghi

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Louise Marenghi were held at 11 a. m. Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at Coleman Funeral Home Chapel in Ackerman. The Rev. Jerry Lawson officiated. Burial followed in Enon Cemetery.

A native of Choctaw County, Mrs. Marenghi was a resident of Columbus. She was a retired secretary for the United States Army Corps of Engineers - Memphis District and a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Florida Society, the Southern Dames of America and the Daughters of the American Revolution, along with being an artist in oil paints, a genealogy researcher and an avid reader. Mrs. Marenghi died Sunday, January 4, 2004 at The Windsor Palace in Columbus.

Survivors include her husband, Charles A. Marenghi, Jr. of Columbus; four nephews and two nieces.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital of Memphis or the Palmer Home for Children of Columbus.

Coleman Funeral Home of Ackerman was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Edna Alice Black McKay

Memorial services for Mrs. Edna Alice Black McKay, 61, were held Saturday, February 21, 2004 at Whitehall United Methodist Church. Brother Fred Gerber officiated.

Mrs. McKay died Wednesday, February 18, 2004 in Bogalusa, La.

Survivors include one son, Doug McKay of Louisville; one daughter, Mitzi McKay McDaniel of Louisville; four sisters, Joyce Jones, Claudia Jones, and Linda Jones, all of Brandon, and Virginia Patrick of Florence; one brother, Charlie Black of Brandon; five grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.

Mr. Willie B. Lockett

Funeral services for Mr. Willie B. Lockett, 57, were held at 2 p. m. Saturday, March 6, 2004 at Beck Funeral Home Chapel in Louisville. The Rev. Clifford Jernigan officiated. Burial followed in Springhill Cemetery.

A native of Louisville, Mr. Lockett was a mechanic. Mr. Lockett died Friday, February 27, 2004 at Orlando Regional Hospital in Orlando, Fla.

Survivors include two daughters, Ada Salley of Orlando, Fla., and Margaret Davis of Minneapolis, Minn. ; four sons, Maurice Salley, Ronald Salley and Willie May, all of Orlando, Fla., and Willie June Davis of Milwaukee, Wisc. ; his mother, Ada Lockett of Louisville; six sisters, Selma Triplett, Mable Thames, Hattie Hughes and Betty Lockett, all of Louisville; Brenda Lockett of West Point and Gloria Johnson of Hinesville, Ga. ; four brothers, Douglas Lockett and Brandon Lockett, both of Louisville, Victor Lockett of Orlando, Fla., and Prentiss Lockett of Macon and five grandchildren.

Mrs. Willie Mae Cotton-Alexander

Funeral services for Mrs. Willie Mae Cotton-Alexander, 82, were held at 1 p. m. Friday, March 12, 2004 at Williams and Herring Funeral Home Chapel in Louisville. Elder Eric Moore officiated. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Louisville.

A native of Noxubee County, Mrs. Cotton-Alexander was a Jehovah's Witness. Mrs. Cotton-Alexander died Thursday, March 4, 2004 at Winston County Nursing Home in Louisville.

Survivors include two sisters, Tiller Henley of Louisville and Joanna Robinson of South Bend, Indiana, and one brother, John Cotton of Bessemer, Ala.

Williams and Herring Funeral Home of Louisville was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Homer Leo Jackson

Funeral services for Mr. Homer Leo Jackson, 84, were held at 2 p. m. Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at Nowell-Tilghman Funeral Home Chapel in Louisville. The Rev. Charles Rook and the Rev. Charles Maples officiated. Burial followed in Murphy Creek Baptist Cemetery in Louisville.

A resident of Louisville, Mr. Jackson was a farmer and retired assembly line operator wit Georgia Pacific Corporation. He was a charter member of Wess Chapel Baptist Church. Mr. Jackson was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served during World War II with the North Atlantic Wing of Air Transport Command, stationed in Newfoundland. Mr. Jackson died Sunday, March 7, 2004 at his home in Louisville.

Survivors include his wife, Brownie Eaves Jackson of Louisville; one daughter, Norma Bennett of Louisville; three sons, Lester Jackson of Louisville, Leo Jackson of Utica and Mark Jackson of Water Valley and eight grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Grady Jackson, Jimmy Jackson, Ben Jackson, Chris Bennett, Markie Jackson, Lethal Jackson, Burgess Jackson and Jeff Jackson.

Memorials may be made to the Baptist Children's Village Reedy Acres Campus in Water Valley.

Mrs. Ruth McNeill Yarbrough

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Ruth McNeill Yarbrough, 89, were held at 2 p. m. Thursday, March 11, 2004 at Rocky Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery in Winston County. The Rev. Bill Mills officiated.

A resident of Madison and former resident of Louisville, Mrs. Yarbrough was a homemaker and a former clerk in the Chancery Clerk's office. She was a member of Rocky Hill United Methodist Church. Mrs. Yarbrough died Monday, March 8, 2004 at St. Catherine's Village in Madison.

Survivors include one daughter, Ann Yarbrough Hall of Madison; one son, John M. Yarbrough of Louisville and one sister, Carmen Smith of Louisville.
