Ms. Mattie Lois Ray

Saturday, April 15, 2006

Funeral services for Ms. Mattie Lois Ray, 93, were held at 2:00 P. M. Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at Salem Independent Methodist Church. Rev. Jim Reed officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

A native of Choctaw County, Ms. Ray was a retired factory worker and was a member of Salem Independent Methodist Church. Ms. Ray died Saturday, April 15, 2006, at Choctaw County Nursing Home in Ackerman.

Survivors include her niece, Rebecca Shaw of Mathiston, and four nephews, Bobby Stedman of Jackson, Bruce Stedman of Ackerman, Joe Stedman of Natchez, and Robert Stephenson of Jackson Gap, AL.

The family requests that memorials be made in memory of Ms. Ray to Salem Independent Methodist Church.

Coleman Funeral Home of Ackerman was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ruby Lucille White Coleman

Ruby Lucille White Coleman, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, sister and aunt, passed away in Santa Cruz, California, at the age of 95.

Lucille was born in Winston County, Mississippi, the oldest daughter of fourteen children. Lucille graduated from nursing school and became a registered nurse in Mississippi in 1934. She became Dean of Vicksburg School of Nursing and worked as a guide nurse at Carlsbad Caverns. In 1940, she was awarded a certificate as a nurse anesthetist from Charity Hospital where she met her future husband completing his internship, Hubert Wesley Coleman, M. D. They were married in 1941 at the Little Church Around the Corner in New York City. World War II separated them as Lucille lived in Jacksonville, Florida, with two daughters. The Colemans moved to Avon Park, Florida after the war, and a son was born. Lucille retired from nursing to become an active member in the Medical Auxiliary, Flower Arrangement Club, and other community service organization. Divorced in 1966, Lucille moved to Biloxi, Mississippi, where she became a military school nurse and worked in a nursing home before retiring. In 1999, Lucille moved to Santa Cruz, California, to be near children and grandchildren.

Lucille is survived by her three children, Clytee Lally Mills of Saratoga, CA, Nancy Coleman of San Francisco, CA, and Robert Wesley Coleman of Palo Alto, CA; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She leaves behind one surviving sister, Doris King of Louisville, MS, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial ceremony was held in Saratoga, CA, April 2, 2006, and donations have been made to the First United Methodist Church in Louisville, MS.

Mr. Garrett Thompson, Jr.

Funeral services for Mr. Garrett Thompson, Jr., 80, were held at 11:00 A. M. Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church in McCool, MS. Rev. Lyndon Geter officiated. Burial followed in Bethsalem Cemetery.

A native of Ackerman, Mr. Thompson was a laborer and a member of Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church in McCool. Mr. Thompson died Thursday, April 13, 2006, at Baptist Medical Center in Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Jeraldine Thompson; five daughters, Marleen Thompson of Gary, IN, Marthetia Thompson of Milwaukee, WI, and Marsha Leggett, Jackqueline Thompson, and Gail Thompson, all of Atlanta, GA; three sons, Gary Thompson of Milwaukee, WI, Johnny Thompson of Atlanta, GA, and Garrett Thompson, III, of Gary, IN; one sister, Bertha Kennedy of Louisville; one brother, Archie Thompson of Louisville; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Audrey Cumberland

Funeral services for Mrs. Audrey Cumberland, 83, were held at 11:00 A. M. Thursday, April 18, 2006, at Coye Assembly of God in Preston. Rev. J. M. VanDevender, Rev. Achan Dufrene, and Rev. Lawrence Pool officiated. Burial followed in Coy Assembly of God Cemetery.

A native of Kemper County and resident of the Spring Creek Community of Neshoba County for several years, Mrs. Cumberland was a retired inspector for Wells-Lamont in Philadelphia. She was also a member of Coye Assembly of God. Mrs. Cumberland died Saturday, April 15, 2006, at Baptist Memorial-Golden Triangle Hospital in Columbus.

Survivors include her two daughters, Mary Nell Jackson of Louisville and Dorothy Edwards of Union; one son, Lonnie Cumberland of Preston; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and one brother, James Madison of Laurel.

Pallbearers were Randy Jackson, Mike Miles, Luke Smith, John Granberry, Josh Smith, Chandler Files, Jeffery Pilgrim, and Jonathan Pilgrim.

McClain-Hays Funeral Home of Philadelphia was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Winnie Madison Whitney

Funeral services for Mrs. Winnie Madison Whitney, 92, were held at 11:00 A. M. Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at Christ Episcopal Church in Dublin, Georgia. Graveside services were also held at 6:00 P. M. Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at Brooksville Cemetery in Brooksville, Mississippi with Rev. Bob Seney officiating.

A native of Noxubee County, Mississippi, and long-time resident of Dublin, Georgia, Mrs. Whitney was a graduate of the Mississippi University for Women and was a former Girl Scout leader, charter member and officer of the Dublin Association of Fine Arts, and an officer and retired member of the Women's Study Club. She was also a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Dublin where she served as church secretary, Sunday School teacher, and was active in the Episcopal Church Women's organization. Mrs. Whitney died Saturday, April 15, 2006, at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin.

Survivors include her son, William L. Whitney, Jr., of Jacksonville, FL; daughter, Ann W. Curry of Dublin, GA; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P. O. Box 409410, Atlanta, GA 30384-9410, or Christ Episcopal Church of Dublin, GA; Sharon Cemetery Fund c/o Cadence Bank, P. O. Box 346, Brooksville, MS, 39729.

Ms. Candace Dawn Tate

Funeral services for Ms. Candace Dawn Tate, 22, were held at 11:00 A. M. Friday, April 21, 2006, at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc, MS. Bro. Rob Faulk officiated. Burial followed in Carey Springs Cemetery in Randolph, MS.

A resident of Pontotoc, Ms. Tate was employed with American Furniture. She was a 2001 graduate of Louisville High School and was a CAN for 2 years. Ms. Tate died Monday, April 17, 2006, at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo.

Survivors include her mother, Donna Cangelosi; father, Rocky Tate; one sister, Jessica Tate; one brother, Shane Tate; son, Nathan Hardin; maternal grandmother, Virginia Sullivan; and paternal grandfather, Oliver Tate.

Pallbearers were C. J. Gamache, Peewee Holsey, Josh Hurst, Hank Vicknair, Don Martindale, and Teedee Johnson.

Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Prentiss Brooks Irving

Funeral services for Mr. Prentiss Brooks Irving, 81, were held at 11:00 A. M. Saturday, April 22, 2006, at the Ackerman Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in Enon Cemetery in Ackerman.

Mr. Irving died Tuesday, April 18, at his home in Ackerman. Mr. Irving was a graduate of Ackerman High School, Holmes Community College, and Mississippi State University. He began his career as a teacher and a football coach. Prentiss coached at McAdams, Sturgis, Shelby, and Magee, MS, before returning to his hometown to coach at Ackerman High School. After he finished coaching, Mr. Irving worked at the local United States Post Office until retirement. He was a member of the Ackerman Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. He served on the Choctaw County Board of Education and held a membership in the Rotary Club, Lions Club, VFW, and American Legion. He served in the United States Navy during World War II with two years of active duty in the South Pacific.

Prentiss is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jimmy Payne Irving of Ackerman; three daughters, Jan Bruening of Madison, Cissy Voight of Nashville, TN, and Pam Marriam of Oxford; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Irving to French Camp Academy in French Camp, MS, or to Palmer Home for Children in Columbus.

Mr. Cleo Lyons

Funeral services for Mr. Cleo Lyons, 79, were held at 11:00 A. M. Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Mt. Ary M. B. Church in Philadelphia. Rev. Lavo Kelly officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

A native of Neshoba County, Mr. Lyons farmed, worked in the construction business, and was retired from Louisiana Pacific in Philadelphia. He was also a member of Mt. Ary M. B. Church of Philadelphia and was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Lyons died Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at the Care Center of Louisville.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Moore Lyons; two daughters, Diana Junes of Hattiesburg, MS, and Mavis Lyons of Philadelphia; five sons, Willie Lyons, Richard Lyons, and Benjamin Lyons of Philadelphia, McAlan Lyons of Jackson, MS, and SFC Lavon Lyons of Colorado Springs, CO; three sisters, Arsula Lampley of Noxapater, Florence Moore of Philadelphia, and Pauline Smith of Mobile, AL; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Williams & Herring Funeral Home of Louisville was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sammie (A. E. ) Cole

Funeral services for Mrs. Sammie (A. E. ) Cole, 101, were held at 2:00 P. M. Sunday, April 23, 2006, at Edgefield Baptist Church in Attala County. Rev. Howard Cole and Rev. Mark Bell officiated. Burial followed in Edgefield Baptist Church Cemetery in Attala County.

Mrs. Cole was a retired part owner of Cole Brothers Furniture and was a member of Edgefield Baptist Church. Mrs. Cole died Thursday, April 20, 2006, at Winston County Nursing Home in Louisville.

Survivors include her sister, Ida Lee Reridan of Kosciusko; four grandsons and a host of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Mr. John Thomas Nordan, Jr.

John Thomas Nordan, Jr., 62, died Friday, April 21, 2006, at the Louisville Group Home in Louisville, MS. Funeral services were held at 3:30 P. M. Monday, April 24, 2006, in the chapel of Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home on High Street in downtown Jackson with burial following in Lakewood Memorial Park.

Tommy was born in Palestine, Texas, and was a lifelong resident of Jackson. He graduated from Central High School. Tommy previously worked for the Mississippi Industry for the Blind. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and began attending Ellison Ridge Baptist Church after he moved to Louisville in 2000.

Tommy was an avid Mississippi State fan and always enjoyed attending the football games.

Survivors include his mother, Louise Singleton Nordan of Madison; two sisters, Faye Bailey of Madison and Diane Chapman of Madison; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Ellison Ridge Baptist Church in Louisville.

Mrs. Coy Prisock

Funeral services for Mrs. Coy Prisock, 89, were held at 2:00 P. M. Sunday, April 23, 2006, at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Rev. Curtis Guess, Rev. Coy Fulgham, and Rev. James Yarbrough officiated. Burial followed in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Choctaw County.

A native of Chickasaw County, Mrs. Prisock was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Choctaw County. Mrs. Prisock died Friday, April 21, 2006, at her residence in Eupora.

Survivors include her five daughters, Joyce Haimes of Louisville, Ruthie White of Avon Park, FL, Susie Russell of Versailles, KY, Annie Redwine of Duck Hill, MS, and Betty Harwell of Eupora, MS; two sons, William Prisock of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Kenneth Prisock of Eupora; one sister, Charleen Murphy of Eupora; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Pallbearers were Larry McClain, Rodney Miles, Rickey Miles, Teddy Lampard, Edward Lacy, and Don Swindle.

Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mabel Estelle Morgan Lacey

Funeral services for Mrs. Mabel Estelle Morgan Lacey will be held at 11:00 A. M. Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at Weir Baptist Church. Rev. Jim Pender and Rev. Curtis Guess will officiate. Burial will follow at Beulah Cemetery.

Mrs. Lacey was an active member of Weir Baptist Church where she had served as teacher and Bible study leader. While she resided at Peachtree Village Assisted Living in Brandon, she organized and taught their first Sunday school class. She was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband on their farm in Choctaw County. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Extension Service Home Demonstration Club. Mrs. Lacey died Monday, April 24, 2006, at Hospice Ministries.

Survivors include her two daughters, Mrs. Bobby Ashley of Brandon and Martha Lacey Henderson of Birmingham; four siblings, Carey Morgan, Victor Morgan, Willis Morgan, and Rosa Pell; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Weir Baptist Church, P. O. Box 262, Weir, MS 39773.

Mrs. Claudine Rawson "Pat" McGee

Graveside services for Mrs. Claudine Rawson "Pat" McGee, 79, were held at 2:00 p. m. Monday, July 3, 2006, at Magnolia Cemetery. Rev. Sephus Garrett officiated.

A resident of Meridian, Mrs. McGee was a retired legal, medical and insurance secretary. Mrs. McGee died Friday, June 30, 2006, at her residence in Meridian.

Survivors include her two daughters, Judy McGee of Meridian and Janie Weeks of Louisville; one sister, Edwina Rash of Riverside, CA; and one granddaughter.

Barham Funeral Home of Meridian was in charge of arrangements.
