Mr. Otha Hartness Jr.

June 23, 2010

Funeral services for Mr. Otha Hartness Jr, 64, were held at 2pm June 25, 2010 at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Reverend Burton Commer and Reverend Michael Halfacre officiated. Burial followed in Sunrise Memorial Cemetery in Noxapater.

Mr. Hartness was a retired truck driver. He was also a member of First Apostolic Church. Survivors include wife Reta Dickerson Hartness, daughter Angela Hartness, sons Shannon Hartness and Shayne Hartness, sisters Ella Mae Shepperd and Elizabeth Reeves, and two grandchildren. Pallbearers were Ricky Hartness, Steve Reaves, John Dickerson, Kyle Dickerson, Carl Dickerson, and David Quinn. Memorials may be made out to the First Apolistic Church.

Mrs. Rebecca Robinson Malin

Mrs. Rebecca Robinson Malin, 75, died Tuesday, June 29, at her home in Louisville. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 10, at 1 pm, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Tommy Cherry officiating. Interment will be in Ellison Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 pm until service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Malin was born April 23, 1935, in Winston County, Mississippi, the daughter of Minnie Robertson and Charlie Thomas Reed. She was a retired hairdresser, and a member of Ellison Ridge Baptist Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Rhonda Ponder of Apple Valley, CA, Sharon Prather of Yuma, AZ, and Lori Suydam of Wrightwood, CA; one son, David Ponder of Louisville; 18 grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Mr. W. B. "Jack" Jackson, Jr.

Mr. W. B. "Jack" Jackson, Jr. of Meridian died, on Friday, July 2, 2010. He was 81.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Maureen, his two daughters, Amy Louise Jackson and Carol Anne Jackson Pryor, brother J. B. Jackson of Louisville, a granddaughter and extended family.

Mr. Jackson served in the United States Army's 24th Infantry Division (G Company, 21st Infantry Regiment) during the Korean Conflict.

Services will be held on Wednesday, July 7, at 11 a. m. at First Baptist Church with visitation prior to the service beginning at 9 a. m. in the Welcome Center of the Church.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Harry Causey, Marion Chiles, Mack Emmons, Dr. Gaines Harrell, LtCol Jim Herrera (USMC), Richard Pryor, Charles Roberts and Sonny Tolbert.

Mrs. Mary Nell Edwards

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Nell Edwards, 64, were held at 2:00 p. m. Friday, September 8, 2006, at Rural Hill Methodist Church. Rev. Mike Skipper officiated. Burial followed in Rural Hill Cemetery.

A native of Ethel, MS, Mrs. Edwards was a homemaker and a member of Rural Hill Methodist Church. Mrs. Edwards died Wednesday, September 6, 2006, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Dale Edwards of McCool; two daughters, Darlene Crocker of Louisville and Angela Cantwell of Meridian; three sons, Kenny Edwards of McCool, Randy Edwards of Louisville, and David Edwards of Philadelphia; two sisters, Eddie V. Gregg of Cleveland, and Charlene Grimm of Bayton, TX; one brother, David O'Briant of Fairaday, LA; 14 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Randy Edwards, Kenny Edwards, David Edwards, Bill Cantwell, Billy Joe Webb, Jr., and Charlie Black. Honorary pallbearers were Drew Edwards, Cruise Hemphill, Bryan Edwards, Troy Dale Edwards, Jonathan Crocker, Jonathan Crocker, and Tyler Hemphill.

Porter Funeral Home of Louisville was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Norma Jane Cross Crawford

Memorial services for Mrs. Norma Jane Cross Crawford, 71, were held at 3:00 p. m. Sunday, September 24, 2006, at the Ackerman Presbyterian Church. Rev. George Buell and Rev. Jerry Lawson officiated. Burial followed in Enon Cemetery.

A native of Ripley, MS, Mrs. Crawford was an Ackerman High School graduate of 1952 and a University of Mississippi graduate of 1956. Following her graduation from Ole Miss, she began her flying career as a flight attendant with American Airlines where she was based in Chicago, Boston, New York, Dallas, Miami, San Francisco, and Los Angeles International Airports over her career of two decades. She returned to Ackerman in 1965 to operate the Ben Franklin Store, which her parents previously owned and operated, before returning to the airline. Mrs. Crawford died Tuesday, September 12, 2006, at the University of Arkansas Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Survivors include her only son, Peter.

Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society; the UAMS Family Home, 4300 West Markhara, Little Rock, Arkansas 72205; French Camp Academy in French Camp, MS; Ackerman Methodist Church in Ackerman, MS; or Enon Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Ackerman, MS.

Coleman Funeral Home of Ackerman was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Fred Vaughn

Funeral services for Mr. Fred Vaughn, 69, were held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday, September 17, 2006, at Butler Pentecostal Church. Rev. Jerry Lundy and Rev. Wayne Hill officiated. Burial followed in Butler Cemetery.

A native of Union, Mr. Vaughn was a disabled truck driver. Mr. Vaughn died Friday, September 15, 2006, at Laird Hospital in Union.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Slawson Vaughn of Union; two daughters, Janice Usry of Union and Brenda McRorey of Union; one step-daughter, Rene Higginbotham of Noxapater; four step-sons, Randy Slawson of Greenbrier, TN, Mike Slawson of Louisville, Paul Slawson of Greenbrier, TN, and Wayne Slawson of Jacksonville, FL; two brothers, Leslie Taylor of Louisville, and Raymond Taylor of Union; 20 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Scott Baskin, Tim Bouchillon, Jimmy Roberts, Daniel Robinson, Ray Taylor, and Jonathon Usry. Honorary pallbearers were Dale Talbert, Matt Taylor, and Dale Wiggins.

Mr. Paul W. "Sonny" Kemp

Funeral services for Mr. Paul W. "Sonny" Kemp, 69, were held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, September 23, 2006, at Nowell Funeral Home Chapel in Louisville. Rev. Mike Fuller and Rev. Bobby Joe Butler officiated. Burial followed in Good Hope Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of Louisville, Mr. Kemp was a retired equipment operator for Baker Ready Mix. He also attended Macon Pentecostal Church in Macon. Mr. Kemp died Monday, September 18, 2006, at his residence in Louisville.

Survivors include his son, Stacy Kemp of Louisville; three daughters, Shelia Guy of Macon, Sherry Jernigan of Brooksville, and Sandra Hill of Louisville; two sisters, Peggy Baker of Louisville and Virginia Sullivan of Fountain Valley, CA; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Brad Guy, Tyler Guy, Billy Don Baker, Michael Sullivan, Lacey Kemp, and Brandon Heard. Honorary pallbearers were Billy Baker, Tommy G. Foster, Bobby Baker, Dr. Spencer Sullivan, Rudy Kemp, Harold Kemp, Garner Kemp, and Steve Jernigan.

Mr. George Kelvin Lyon

Funeral services for Mr. George Kelvin Lyon, 40, will be held at 11:00 a. m. Wednesday, September 27, 2006, at Mt. Ary Baptist Church in Philadelphia. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

A resident of Ocean Springs, Mr. Lyon was a coach and schoolteacher at Laurel High School. He was also a member of Morris Road Church of Christ in Gulfport. Mr. Lyon died Wednesday, September 20, 2006, at South Central Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila Terrell Lyon of Ocean Springs; three brothers, MacArthur Lyon of Cleo, Michigan, Dennis A. Lyon of Noxapater, and Delvin Lyon of Chicago, Illinois; two sisters, Bonnie Lynn Brownlee and Dephine Howard, both of Chicago, Illinois.

Chapel of Angels Funeral Home in Laurel and Hampton Funeral Home in Louisville were in charge of arrangements.

Mr. William Monroe "Mac" McClure

Funeral services for Mr. William Monroe "Mac" McClure, 90, were held at 2:00 p. m. Monday, September 25, 2006, at Enon Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Ackerman. Rev. Jerry Lawson officiated. Burial followed in Enon Cemetery in Ackerman.

A native of Ackerman, Mr. McClure was a business partner with his wife. ??? He served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of Enon Cumberland Presbyterian Church as well as Masons and Eastern Star. Mr. McClure died Thursday, September 21, 2006, at Choctaw County Hospital in Ackerman.

Survivors include his son, Gerald McClure of Columbus; daughter, Betty Gayle Steiner of Ackerman; half-brother, W. J. McClue of Kilburn, LA; sister, Mamie Boyd Deimler of Grass Valley, CA; half-sisters, Winnie B. Albritton of Broken Arrow, OK, and Louise Davis of Oak Grove, LA; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Enon Cumberland Presbyterian Church Lighthouse Fund, P. O. Box 294, Ackerman, MS 39735.

Mr. Bonzy Darden

Funeral services for Mr. Bonzy Darden, 81, were held at 1:00 p. m. Friday, December 15, 2006, at Mount Bell Missionary Baptist Church in Louisville. Rev. Anthony McIntosh officiated. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

A native of Louisville, Mr. Darden was a funeral director for 28 years with Beck Funeral Home in Louisville. He was also a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Louisville. Mr. Darden died Friday, December 8, 2006, at the Winston County Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Elmer Darden; seven daughters, Mary Pearl Lovelace of Milwaukee, WI, Shirley Nunnally of Indianapolis, IN, Vernon Lee Smith of Sturgis, MS, Linda Harrell of Orlando, FL, Annette Jernigan and Towana Hickman both of Louisville, and Karpinos Brown of Huntsville, AL; four sons, Harvey Darden and Bonzie Darden, Jr., both of Louisville, Willie Darden of Montgomery, AL, and Melvin Darden of Louisville; two sisters, Charity Johnson and Francis Curry, both of Milwaukee, WI; 50 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Mary Eloise Wraggs

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Eloise Wraggs, 41, were held at 12 noon Saturday, December 16, 2006, at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Louisville. Rev. Roy L. Goss officiated. Burial followed in New Zion Cemetery.

A native of Louisville, Mrs. Wraggs was a nurse's aid and a member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Louisville. Mrs. Wraggs died Sunday, December 10, 2006, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Survivors include her parents, Walter J. and Annie Lou Wraggs of Louisville; three daughters, Keneshia Wraggs, Terri Hunt, and Tomaryium Yarbrough, all of Louisville; one sister, Vanessa Primer of Louisville; and five brothers, Douglas Wraggs of Louisville, Christopher Wraggs and Jeffery Wraggs of St. Petersburg, FL, Marvin Ashford of Ackerman, and Bob Woodard of Weir.

Mrs. Nellie Triplett Carter

Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie Triplett Carter, 92, were held at 3:00 p. m. Saturday, December 16, 2006, at Bibleway Pentecostal Church in Louisville. Bishop Henry Lee Young officiated. Burial followed in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

A native of Louisville, Mrs. Carter was a homemaker and a member of Bibleway Pentecostal Church. Mrs. Carter died Monday, December 11, 2006, at her home in Louisville.

Survivors include her four daughters, Earlene Bailey of Lorain, OH, Merlean Ball of Chicago, IL, Dorothy Gooden Wallace of Lorain, OH, and Leather Mae Moore of Louisville; one son, L. D. Carter of Louisville; 23 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Keith Lynn Burton

Funeral services for Mr. Keith Lynn Burton, 52, were held at 10:00 a. m. Saturday, December 16, 2006, at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman. Rev. Bill Hutto, Rev. Lannie Collum, and Rev. Steve Jordan officiated. Burial followed in Wood Springs Baptist Cemetery in Choctaw County.

A native of Choctaw County, Mr. Burton was a self-employed logger. Mr. Burton died Tuesday, December 12, 2006, at his residence near Ackerman.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Burton of Ackerman; mother, June Burton of Ackerman; two sons, Ben Burton and Virgil Burton both of Starkville; four brothers, Austin Burton of California, Donnie Burton of Ackerman, Gary Burton of Houston, TX, and Randy Burton of Ackerman; one sister, Melonie Dean of Eupora; and one grandson.
