Mr. James Kenneth Hanna

Funeral services for Mr. James Kenneth Hanna, 79, were held at 2:00 p. m. Thursday, December 14, 2006, at Vernon Assembly of God. Rev. Bobby Joe Butler, Rev. Hugh Smith, and Rev. Mike Ingram officiated. Burial followed in Vernon Cemetery.

A native of Winston County, Mr. Hanna was a retired assembly line worker for Ford Motor Company and a farmer. He was also a Navy veteran of World War II and a Mason. Mr. Hanna died Tuesday, December 12, 2006, at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mavis Robertson Hanna of Louisville; one daughter, Anne Peterson of Louisville; one son, Kenny Joe Hanna of Louisville; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Winston Choctaw Gideons, P. O. Box 556, Louisville.

Mrs. Mary Frances Hill

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Frances Hill, 75, were held at 2:00 p. m. Monday, December 18, 2006, at the Nowell Funeral Home Chapel in Louisville. Rev. James Yarbrough officiated. Burial followed in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

A native of Louisville, Mrs. Hill was a retired cafeteria worker and school bus driver for Louisville Public Schools. She was also a member of East Louisville Baptist Church. Mrs. Hill died Friday, December 15, 200, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville.

Survivors include her two daughters, Deborah Lynn Covington and Dinky Dickerson, both of Louisville; four sons, Frankie Hill, David Hill and John Daniel Hill of Louisville, and Darrell Hill of Ackerman; three sisters, Lula Mae Varner of San Clemente, CA, and Willena Morey and Lydia Burchfield, both of Germantown, TN; two brothers, M. J. Varner of Florence, AL, and Lemial "Bud" Varner of Louisville; 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Funeral services for Mr. Henry Lee White, 96, were held at 11:00 a. m. Monday, December 18, 2006, at Porter Funeral Home in Louisville. Rev. Walter Simmons and Rev. Wayne Hill officiated. Burial followed in Murphy Creek Cemetery in Louisville.

A native of Winston County, Mr. White was a retired funeral director with Harris Funeral Home. He was a Mason and a veteran of World War II as well as a member of Murphy Creek Baptist Church in Louisville. Mr. White died Friday, December 15, 2006, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville.

Survivors include his daughter, Hazel Ward of Louisville; two sons, John H. White of Louisville and Jerry White of Morganton, NC; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Joe White, Bud White, Scott White, Brett Smith, David Goodin, and Mike Johnson.

Porter Funeral Home of Louisville was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bruce Lavell "Red" Worrell

Funeral services for Mr. Bruce Lavell "Red" Worrell, 87, were held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, December 16, 2006, at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman. Dr. Clarence Cooper and Rev. Danny Irvin officiated. Burial followed in Enon Cemetery in Ackerman.

A native of Choctaw County, Mr. Worrell was a retired businessman. He served in the US Army during World War II and was an ex-POW. Mr. Worrell was also a member of Ackerman Baptist Church. Mr. Worrell died Friday, December 15, 2006, at the VA Hospital in Jackson.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes Worrell of Ackerman; two sons, Rev. Barry Worrell of Grenada, MS, and Bruce Worrell of Baton Rouge, LA; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Perry King, Waverly King, Alvin Coleman, Bo Newman, Wayne McLeod, and Deke Worrell. Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of Ackerman Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to Ackerman Baptist Church, P. O. Box 277, Ackerman, MS 39735 or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Mrs. Marvil M. Robertson

Funeral services for Mrs. Marvil M. Robertson, 77, were held at 2:00 p. m. Monday, December 18, 2006, at North Bend United Pentecostal Church of Philadelphia. Rev. Johnny Peden and Rev. Nathan Moore officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

A resident of Philadelphia, Mrs. Robertson was retired from U. S. Motors. She was also a member of North Bend United Pentecostal Church. Mrs. Robertson died Saturday, December 16, 2006, at her residence.

Survivors include her husband, James V. "Sock" Robertson of Philadelphia; one daughter, Yvonne Lofton of Philadelphia; one son, Joe Wayne Robertson of Philadelphia; one sister, Wautine Beard of Philadelphia; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Chris Gibson, Chris Peden, Ivan Alford, Jerry Whitehead, Marty Crawford, Kip Barrier, Stevie Barrier, and Dwight Fulton.

Mrs. Faye Marvene Lovern

Funeral services for Mrs. Faye Marvene Lovern, 76, were held at 11:00 a. m. Tuesday, December 19, 2006, at Macedonia Revival Center in Philadelphia. Rev. Leslie Courtney, Rev. Lloyd Adcock, and Rev. Greg Fortenberry officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

A resident of Philadelphia, Mrs. Lovern was a homemaker and member of Macedonia Revival Center. Mrs. Lovern died Sunday, December 17, 2006, at Neshoba General Hospital.

Survivors include her daughter, Joyce Gray of Philadelphia; four sons, Douglas Lovern, Orborn Lovern, Brooks Lovern, and Rudy Lovern, all of Philadelphia; three sisters, Marie Lovern and Ruby Holly of Philadelphia and Margie Watkins of Florida; two brothers, Kenneth Pope of Pascagoula and Bobby Pope of Philadelphia; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Allan Lovern, Chad Lovern, Jase Lovern, John Ainsworth, Wes Gray, Todd Gray, Clayson Lovern, and Ardy Reed.

Ms. Isadora "Dodie" Turnipseed

Funeral services for Ms. Isadora "Dodie" Turnipseed, 92, were held at 1:00 p. m. Tuesday, December 19, 2006, at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman. Rev. Bill Mills officiated. Burial followed in Weir Cemetery in Weir.

A native of Choctaw County, Ms. Turnipseed was a retired beautician and a member of Salem United Methodist Church near Weir. She also volunteered at French Camp Academy. Ms. Turnipseed died Sunday, December 17, 2006, at Atwood Personal Care Home in Kosciusko.

Survivors include her brother, John F. Turnipseed of Meridian, and sister, Vera T. Rodgers of Kosciusko.

Memorials may be made to Salem United Methodist Church or to Weir Cemetery.

Ms. Alta Mae Ward Cole Kelly

January 20, 2006

A memorial service for Ms. Alta Mae Ward Cole Kelly will be held Tuesday, December 26 at 10 a. m. at Webster Memorial Garden. Rev. Jason Lupo will officiate.

Kelly was a nurse who in the interest of helping others donated her body to science. Her remains will now be laid to rest beside her husband George Sherman Cole. She was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother and friend.

Funeral services for Mr. Omar Wade Bounds, 66, were held Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Bro. Keith McGee officiated. Burial followed in Floral Hills Memory Garden in Pearl.

A native of Newton County and longtime resident of Pearl, Mr. Bounds was a retired railroad conductor after over 30 years of service. He was a member of the Pearl Masonic Lodge and was a Baptist. Mr. Bounds died Friday, December 29, 2006, at River Oaks Hospital in Flowood.

Survivors include his daughters, Pam Parker of Philadelphia and Deborah Teasley of Vicksburg; one son, Jeff Bounds of Philadelphia; two sisters, Linda Miller and Jan Gable of Jackson; one brother, Robert G. Bounds of Whitfield; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Darryl Henderson, Alan Osborne, Kenny Mack Parker, Cole Chastain, Steve Bounds, and Scotty Gilmore. Honorary pallbearers were Jonathan Teasley, Maxey Parker, Jeffrey Bounds, and Danny Marble.

Ott and Lee Funeral Home, Inc., of Brandon was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Robert Lee "Bud" Bozeman

Funeral services for Mr. Robert Lee "Bud" Bozeman, 69, were held at 10 a. m. Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at John E. Stephens Chapel in Philadelphia. Rev. Lloyd Adcock, Rev. Sammy Fulton, and Rev. Glenn Jordan officiated. Burial followed in Sandtown Cemetery in Philadelphia.

A resident of Philadelphia, Mr. Bozeman owned and operated Bozeman Tire Repair for several years. He was also a member of Deemer Church of Jesus' Name. Mr. Bozeman died Saturday, December 30, 2006, at St. Dominic Hospital.

Survivors include his two daughters, Janet Bynum of Brandon and Tammie Blakeney of Pearl; two sons, Sammy Bozeman of Montgomery, LA, and Kendal Bozeman of Pell City, AL; two sisters, Gladys Daniels of Philadelphia and Mary Reid of Carthage; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Rev. J. W. Jenkins, Rev. David Richardson, Reggie Bozeman, Rev. Steve Fulton, Titus Blakeney, and Shane Jennings.

Funeral services for Mrs. Joyce Hayes, 63, were held at 1:00 p. m. Saturday, January 6, 2007, at Rockport United Methodist Church in Louisville. Rev. Ronald Jefferson officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

A native of Louisville, Mrs. Hayes was a homemaker and a member of Rockport United Methodist Church of Louisville. Mrs. Hayes died Sunday, December 31, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus.

Survivors include her daughter, Ronnet Harris of Louisville; one son, Ronnel Williams of Horn Lake, MS; two sisters, Thelma Thomas of Decatur, GA, and Bettie Miller of Louisville; three brothers, Horace L. Hayes of Louisville, Adron Hayes of Newport News, VA, and Roger Hayes of Belleville, IL; and three grandchildren.

Mr. Draper Allen Jackson

Funeral services for Mr. Draper Allen Jackson, 24, were held at 12 p. m. Saturday, January 6, 2007, at Wake Forest Baptist Church in Sturgis, MS. Rev. Danny Irvin and Rev. Wade Stevens officiated. Burial followed in Wake Forest Baptist Cemetery.

A native of Maben and resident of Lynnwood, Washington, Mr. Jackson was a musician. Mr. Jackson died Monday, January 1, 2007, at his home in Lynnwood, Washington.

Survivors include his parents, Ed and RoeAnn Jackson of Sturgis; maternal grandfather, John D. Nason of Sturgis; paternal grandparents, Brelan and Marilyn Jackson of Ackerman; and fiancée, Amber Reschloe.

Pallbearers were Harold Gordon, Henry Rhodes, John D. Nason, III, John D. Nason, IV, Brandon Mason, and Chris Ives. Honorary pallbearers were John D. Nason, V, Mike Jackson, and Mark Jackson.

Memorials may be made to Wake Forest Baptist Church Building Fund in Sturgis, MS.

Funeral services for Ms. Ethel Louise Wells, 72, were held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday, January 7, 2007, at Maple Spring United Methodist Church in Louisville. Rev. Mary Ann Veasley officiated.

A native of Noxapater, Ms. Wells was a faithful member of Maple Spring United Methodist Church where she served on the usher board. Ms. Wells died Monday, January 1, 2007, at her home.

Survivors include her daughter, Freada Mae Estes of Louisville; five sisters, Annie Pearl McDonald of Noxapater, Sally Ann Triplett of Indianola, MS, Mary J. Latimer of Kenosha, WI, Annie Mae Graham of Rochester, NY, and Hattie Wells of Rochester, NY; four brothers, Willie B. Wells of Rochester, NY, Clifton Wells of Rochester, NY, Jimmie D. Wells of Louisville, and David Wells of Louisville; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were David Wells, Jr., Eddie Triplett, Humphries Wells, Daniel Burnside, Nathaniel Burnside, and Marcus Coburn.

Mrs. Pattie Sue Shelton Hughes

Memorial services for Mrs. Pattie Sue Shelton Hughes, 68, were held at 11 a. m. Monday, January 8, 2007, in the chapel of Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS.

A native of Ripley and raised in Aberdeen, Mrs. Hughes received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from the Mississippi University for Women. Mrs. Hughes died Thursday, January 4, 2007, at St. Catherine's Village.

Survivors include her children, Lisa Hughes Cheyne of Hampden-Sydney, Virginia, Glenn Hughes of Scottsdale, Arizona, Patty Carol Hughes of Buteau of Hattiesburg, Angela Hughes Watson and Ginger Hughes Skinner, both of Madison; sister, Maxine Shelton Reedy of Aberdeen; brothers, Terry Shelton and Jerry Shelton of Cadiz, Kentucky; 16 grandchildren and devoted friend and caretaker, Willie Lee Craig of Louisville.

While flowers are welcome, memorial donations may be made to The Alzheimer's Association Mississippi Chapter, 1900 Dunbarton Drive #H, Jackson, MS 39216.

Funeral services for Mr. Larry Douglas Courtney, 60, were held at 2 p. m. Monday, January 8, 2007, at French Camp Presbyterian Church in French Camp.

A native of Bluffton, IN, Mr. Courtney was a longtime teacher and coach after receiving a bachelor's degree from Belhaven College and a Master of Arts from Mississippi State University. Mr. Courtney died Friday, January 5, 2007.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Mary Hutchinson Courtney; four sons, Doug Usry of Ridgeland, Paul Courtney of Ackerman, James Courtney of Hazelhurst, and Chris Courtney of Starkville; his mother, Katherine Courtney of Pearl; two sisters, Connie Cherry of Florence and Peggy Barker of Waveland; two brothers, David Courtney of Davis, WV, and Eddie Courtney of Pearl; and grandchildren.

A native of Brooksville, Mr. Kemp worked for Deerbook Company for many years as a hog farm manager. Mr. Kemp died Friday, January 5, 2007, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus.

Survivors include his son, Billy Ray Kemp of Brooksville; sister, Lucille Callie of Mobile, Alabama; and brother, Lynn Lynell Kemp of Aberdeen.

Palmer, Paul Davis Palmer, and Tim Palmer, all of Louisville, and Tony Palmer of Columbus; four sister, Roberta Carr, Gladys Stokes, and Margie Marsicek, all of Louisville, and Calleen Witham of Pensacola, FL; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
