Jack B. Whitehead

(December 21, 1925 - September 16, 2011)

NATCHEZ - Services for Mr. Jack B. Whitehead, 85, of Natchez, who died Friday, September 16, 2011 at Promise Rehabilitation Hospital in Vidalia, LA, will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Henderson officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Whitehead was born December 21, 1925 in Roxie, MS, the son of Richard Alvie Whitehead and Eron Thomas Whitehead.

Mr. Whitehead worked at Armstrong Tire and Rubber Co. in Natchez for 41 years. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the South Pacific, and also in the Korean Conflict, serving in the U. S. Army. He was a member of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Myrtle Whitehead, and brothers, Ford Whitehead and Richard Alvie Whitehead, Jr.

He is survived by his sister: Willie Mae Williams of Natchez; nieces and nephews: Junior Williams and wife, Connie, Dianne Housley, Elzie Whitehead, Jr., Connie Gamberi and husband, John, Sandy Stampley, Sherrill Free, Bobby Beard, Mark Henderson and wife, Amber, Dale Henderson and wife, Renee, Debbie Smith and husband, E. W., Roy Stephenson, and Linda Patterson and husband, Ken; special friend: Leona Friedman; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Junior Williams, Dale Henderson, Bobby Beard, John Gamberi, Roy Stephenson, and David Thomas.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Club of Lovely lane United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Lovely Lane United Methodist Church.

Marvin C. Ellerbe, Sr.

(March 24, 1933 - September 10, 2011)

NATCHEZ - Funeral services for Marvin Clem Ellerbe Sr.,78, of Vidalia, who died Saturday September 10, 2011 in Brandon, MS, will be 2 P. M. Monday September 12, 2011 at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Glen Harrigill and Rev. Bobby Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Monday 12 Noon until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Ellerbe was born March 24, 1933 in Winnsboro, LA the son of Clem Ike Ellerbe and Nellie Juanita Johnson Ellerbe. He lived in the Natchez area most of his life. Mr. Ellerbe lived in Nashville, Tenn for several years working for Armstrong Rubber Company. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force. Marvin never met a stranger and loved to talk. He also loved to read and had an avid interest in history and politics. Mr. Ellerbe will be greatly missed by those that loved him. He is preceded in death by his parents, and a baby daughter.

Survivors include five daughters, Marie Montague and husband, Ivan of Brandon, Cindy Kenney and husband, Shelby of Brandon, Sharon Fowler and husband, Bill of Brandon, Lissa Gundlack and husband, Chip of Virginia Beach, VA, and Janet Walker and husband, Carroll of Slidell, LA; one son, Marty Ellerbe of Vidalia;12 grandchildren, Shannon Mason, Tara King, Daniel Dayton, Ray Kenney, Louis Kenney, Brandi Fowler, Chris Fowler, Heather Fowler, Tracey Fowler, Katie Schojan, Tara Schojan, and C. J. Littlejohn; 13 greatgrandchildren; one sister, Cissy Carlton; one brother, Ralph Ellerbe; and a niece Rebecca Carlton.

Pallbearers wil be, Daniel Dayton, Ray Kenney, C. J. Littlejohn, Toby King, Glen Mason and Dennis Dunn.

Laura Mae Wallace

(July 31, 1920 - September 16, 2011)

NATCHEZ - Services for Mrs. Laura Mae Wallace, 91, of Brandon and formerly of Natchez, who died Friday, September 16, 2011 in Jackson will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 19, 2011 at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Berry officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Wallace was born July 31, 1920 in Wilkinson County, MS, the daughter of Wilber Beckham and Ida Mae Fuglar Beckham.

She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church, the Natchez Chapter #75 Eastern Star, and active member of Natchez Homemakers, and a member of the Farm Bureau Association for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Woodrow Wallace, and her brothers.

She is survived by three sons: Ronnie Berkemeyer and wife, Barbara, of Brandon, MS, Erick Wallace of Charlotte, NC, and Daniel Wallace and wife, Rhonda, of Pearl, MS; one brother: Wilber Lee Beckham and wife, Betty, of Woodville, MS; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Chris Bonham, Buddy Hankinson, Brain Hankinson, Jonathan Wallace, Clifton Wallace, and Phillip Troisclair.

Melvin Dudley Halford

(September 6, 1954 - September 19, 2011)

NATCHEZ - Funeral services for Melvin Dudley Halford, 57, of Natchez, who died September 19, 2011 at his residence, will be 2 p.m. Thursday September 22, 2011 at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Harrigill officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 5 p.m to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Laird Funeral Home.

Mr. Halford was born September 6, 1954 in Meadville the son of Dudley Halford and Rhoda Halford. Mr. Halford was an ordained minister and attended Hamburg Baptist Church in Franklin County and would preach sermons when his health would allow him to. Mr. Halford is preceded in death by his parents, one brother Calvin Halford.

Survivors include three sisters; Bernice Harvey and her husband, Coy Harvey, of Natchez, Nadine Holton and her husband, Delmer Holton, Jr of Natchez, and Betty Dawson and her husband, Tony Dawson of Natchez; one brother, Gene Halford and wife, Suni; one sister, Faye Woods and husband, Bill; a number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; his beloved pet, Boo-Bear; a very close and appreciated friend, Cindy Burton.

Pallbearers will be, Stacie Cloy, Tonya Dawson, Delmer Holton, III, Blake Heidel and Heath Emfinger.

Honorary pallbearers will be, Bobby Scott, Coy W. Harvey and Tony Dawson.

Betty Dukes McLemore

(September 23, 1933 - September 19, 2011)

Services for Betty Dukes McLemore, 77, of Natchez, who died Monday, Sept. 19, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, Sept. 22, at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with Donald Shupe and Marshall Trisler officiating. Burial will follow in the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Laird Funeral Home.

Betty was born September 23, 1933 in Natchez, the daughter of Longino Henry Dukes and Velma Ola Lane Dukes. She retired from A&P Grocery after 35 years of service. She was a member of Community Chapel Church of God and the Natchez Moose Lodge.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Lane McLemore and three brothers; Burna Lee Dukes, L. H. Dukes Jr., and Wallace”Buddy” Dukes.

Survivors include one son, Dale McLemore of Natchez, four granddaughters; Kacy Givens of Natchez, Leah White of Brookhaven, MS., Paige McLemore of Natchez, and Sharrlee McLemore of Natchez, two great granddaughters; Riana McLemore and Bella Givens both of Natchez, one brother, Otto Dukes and wife Gloria of Natchez, one sister, Shirley Dukes of Natchez, six nieces; Rhonda Bunch, Terri Thomas, Gerri Perry, Kevin Dukes, Susan Scruggs, and Sandra Rodriguez. She is also survived by a number of great nieces and great nephews.

Pallbearers will be Sam Thomas, Prentiss Harveston, Lew Harveston, Stanley Perry, Micah Griffith, and Darron Coleman

Honorary Pallbearer will be Dale Thomas

Irlan John Rudisill

(February 27, 1919 - September 20, 2011)

NATCHEZ - Funeral services for Irlan John Rudisill, 92, of Natchez, who died September 20, 2011 at his residence, will be held 1 p.m. Saturday September 24, 2011 at Parkview Church of God with Rev. Victor Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Saturday 11 a.m. until service time at the church.

Mr. Rudisill was born February 27, 1919 in Wilda, LA the son of John H. Rudisill and Ora Amanda Clark Rudisill. He was a member of Parkview Church of God. Mr. Rudisill was a member of Masonic Order, Harmony Lodge #1 and Andrew Jackson, Rosalie Commander #5, Order of the Eastern Star, and Wahabi Shrine Temple. He was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Rudisill was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Sherry Rudisill Johnson, one sister, Floy Rudisill Long and a brother, Alton Rudisill.

Surivors include his wife, Maudie Rudisill of Natchez; two daughters, Ellen Rudisill of Fort Worth, Texas and Marilyn R. Gonsiorek of Fort Worth, Texas; one son, Dennis Irlan Rudisill of Pine Bluff, Ark; three grandchildren, Mary Ellen Gonsiorek , Lisa Rene Gonsiorek both of Fort Worth, Texas and Kenneth Jay Owens of Flower Mound, Texas; three great grandchildren, Connor Irlan Owens, Ryan Jay Owens and Brady Clark Owens.

Pallbearers will be his Masonic brothers.

Memorials may be sent to Knights Templar Eye Foundation, Inc.

Phillip G. "Chainsaw" Ray

(June 14, 1957 - September 27, 2011)

NATCHEZ - Funeral services for Phillip G. “Chainsaw” Ray, 54, of Natchez, who died September 27, 2011 in Newellton, LA, will be 11 a.m. Friday September 30, 2011 at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bo Swilley and Rev. Paul Trosper officiating. Burial will follow at Arlington Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mr. Ray was born June 14, 1957 in McComb, MS the son of Doyle Lee Ray and Faye East Ray. He was preceded in death by his parents, step father, J. W. Roberts, one brother Roy Ray, one daughter, Mellisa Faye Ray.

Survivors include his wife, Lynn Ray of Natchez; three daughters, Kristie Simmons and husband, Skylar of Natchez, Kimberly Ray and her fiance’ Michael both of Natchez and Katrina Trosper and her husband Paul of Winona, MS; four grandchildren, Colette and Ryan Simmons, Gabriel and Caleb Trosper.
