Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel with burial in Memorial Park. She attended Ellendale (Tenn.) United Methodist Church. Mrs. Whitaker, the wife of Andrew W. Whitaker, also leaves six daughters, Anita Rushing of Ellendale, Judy Duncan of Robinsonville, Barbara Dever of Turon, Kan., Vicki Gray of Cordova, Pamela Springer of Lincoln, Neb., and Peggy Sublett of Olive Branch; a son, Michael Duncan of Memphis, 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Breast Cancer Awareness or Ellendale United Methodist Church.

Batesville -- Janie Sue Hartsfield, 93, seamstress, died Monday at Tri-Lakes Medical Center. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Waller Funeral Home in Oxford with burial in Pilgrims Rest cemetery. She was a member of Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church. Mrs. Hartsfield, the widow of Howard Franklin Hartsfield, leaves three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Batesville -- Jack Tolleson Hartzell, 83, retired farmer, died Sunday at Tri-Lakes Medical Center. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Independence Presbyterian Church, where he was a member, with burial in Antioch cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home has charge. He was a World War II Navy veteran. Mr. Hartzell, the husband of Gwendolyn Hartzell, also leaves four daughters, Georgie Craig of Laurel, Jackie Cagley of Baton Rouge, La., and Sandra Darby and Dale Shankle, both of Batesville; two sisters, Frances Sullivant of Missouri and Sara Derby of Batesville, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Independence Presbyterian Church Memorial Funds.

Clarksdale -- John Oscar Connell, 72, farmer and businessman, died Sunday at Mount Sinai Hospital in Miami, Fla. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at St. George's Episcopal Church, where he was a member, with burial in Oakridge cemetery. Nowell Funeral Home has charge. He an Army veteran, attended Culver Military Academy and University of Mississippi, and member of boards of Coahoma County Hospital, North Delta Compress, Bank of Clarksdale, Lee Academy and Clarksdale Country Club. He leaves a daughter, Llewellyn Connell Hall of Memphis; two sons, John Oscar Connell Jr. of Memphis and Coleman Baugh Connell of Sherard; a sister, Stella Connell Salmon of Clarksdale, and three grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to St. George's Episcopal Church, Coahoma County Animal Shelter or a charity of the donor's choice.

Mr. Patterson, the husband of Patsy Funderburg Patterson, also leaves six daughters, Allis Patterson of Courtland, Shirley Applewhite of Moorhead, Jo Stead and Linda Cobb, both of Lambert, and Judy Royce and Debbie Tucker, both of Brewton, Ala.; three sons, Gerald Patterson of Waco, Texas, and Gary Patterson and Roy Patterson, both of Courtland; two sisters, Faye Johnson of Little Rock, S.C., and Pat Chaldwell of Johnson City, Tenn.; two brothers, Ray Patterson of Nacogdoches, Texas, and Wayne Patterson of Houston, 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. Howell, the husband of Estelle Howell of Mount Pleasant, also leaves six daughters, Loretta Choyce of South Holland, Ill., Juanita Moton of Lynnwood, Ill., and Bobbye Lewis, Ella Marshall, Marilyn Wright and Regina Boyd, all of Memphis; nine sons, Alvin Jones of Germantown, and John Howell Jr., Larry Howell, Rickey Howell, Stacy Johnson, John Terrell Johnson, Ezell Hurt, Clezell Hurt and Darlyn Hurt, all of Memphis; two sisters, Katie Henderson of Mount Pleasant and Ardilia Holden of Memphis, 32 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
