Arkabutla -- J. M. 'Dusty' Veazey, 84, retired sawmill owner and mechanic, died Saturday at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Surrette cemetery. Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia has charge. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Evansville Baptist Church. Mr. Veazey, the husband of Vera Yount Veazey, also leaves a daughter, Sharon Veazey, and a son, David M. Veazey, both of Arkabutla, and three grandchildren.

Batesville -- Jimmie D. 'Hick' Ellis, 71, retired laborer, died Wednesday at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Batesville with burial in the church cemetery. Hodges Funeral Home in Batesville has charge. Mr. Ellis, the husband of Mary H. Ellis, also leaves two daughters, Bernadette Johnson of Courtland and Pamela Lee of Batesville; three sons, James C. Johnson and Willie D. Johnson, both of Courtland, and Darin Ellis of Batesville; four brothers, Ulyeess Ellis and Sidney Ellis, both of Batesville, and Howard Ellis and Larry Ellis, both of Milwaukee, 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Batesville -- Walter Gundolphus Murphree, 77, retired Air Force master sergeant for 22 years, police chief and superintendent of Batesville Water Department, died Friday at his home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Dickins Funeral Home with burial in Batesville Magnolia cemetery. He was a member of Batesville First Baptist Church. Mr. Murphree, the husband of Radia Grace White Murphree, also leaves a daughter, Nita Murphree McGreger of Vardaman; a son, Gregory K. Murphree of Tupelo; three sisters, Vivian Bridges of Batesville, Charlie Ann Barton of Charleston and Mary Louise Watts of Pope; a brother, James D. Murphree of Centennial, Colo., and five grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Center Hill cemetery or Batesville Magnolia cemetery.

Byhalia -- Manuel Ascedo, 44, machine fabricator, died Tuesday in Memphis. Services were Saturday at Byhalia First Baptist Church with burial in Garden of Memories in Salinas, Calif. Mr. Ascedo, the husband of Dana Ginet Ascedo, also leaves his mother, Irene Ascedo; a sister, Betty Lou Vega; a brother, Frank Ascedo Jr., and his grandmother, Betty Lou Vega, all of Salinas.

Corinth -- Edna Alice Bizzell, 95, homemaker, died Friday at Corinth Health & Rehab. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Memorial Funeral Home with burial in Old Enon cemetery in Middleton, Tenn. She was a member of North Corinth Baptist Church. Mrs. Bizzell, the widow of Perry Franklin Bizzell, leaves a daughter, Ruby Mae Cornelius of Cairo; two sons, William L. Bizzell of Corinth and Richard Bizzell of Michie, Tenn., 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

'Alexa' Cooke, 14-year-old daughter of Stephen S. and Ginger Moore Cooke, student at Lee Academy in Clarksdale, died Saturday at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. George's Episcopal Church in Clarksdale with burial in Oddfellows cemetery in Grenada. Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale has charge. She also leaves a sister, Molly Cooke of Dublin, and her grandparents, Earl and Sara Moore of Duck Hill and Dr. Gaines L. Cooke of Grenada. The family requests that any memorials be sent to St. George's Episcopal Church, Church of the Advent in Sumner or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Horn Lake -- Annie L. Hirsch, 73, homemaker and bus aide for DeSoto County Transportation Department, died Friday at her home. Mrs. Hirsch, the widow of Robert B. Hirsch, leaves a daughter, Sandra G. Rumball-Eckloff of Horn Lake; three sons, Robert S. Hirsch Jr. of Horn Lake, Harry B. Hirsch of Clovis, Calif., and David Hirsch of Salem, Ore.; three sisters, Arlean Grosso of Tennessee, and Georgia Stewart and Wanda Kelley, both of Mississippi; four brothers, Harold Mascroft of Tennessee, Junior Mascroft of Missouri, Ronald Mascroft of Mississippi and Billy Mascroft of Idaho, and eight grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Getwell Road United Methodist Church.
