Batesville -- Sylvia Sanders Cannon, 78, homemaker, died Wednesday at her home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Waller Funeral Home in Oxford with burial in Pine Flat cemetery there. She was a member of Pine Flat United Methodist Church. Mrs. Cannon, the widow of Dewey G. Cannon, leaves a daughter, Donna Acanfora of Valparaiso, In.; two sons, Larry G. Cannon of Charleston, Ill., and Dennis M. Cannon of Valparaiso; a brother, Wayne Sanders of Water Valley, and seven grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to the American Heart Association.

Batesville -- James T. 'Buddy' Cooper, 83, laborer, died Tuesday at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member, with burial in Johnson Chapel cemetery in Courtland. Cooley's Mortuary has charge. He leaves two sisters, Earnestine C. McCain and Hattie Mae Frazier, both of Batesville, and a brother, Tom Cooper Jr. of Memphis.

Benton County -- Mattie Tatum, 61, of Chicago, formerly of Benton County, died Sunday in Chicago. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sand Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Lamar with burial in the church cemetery there. Serenity Funeral Home in Holly Springs has charge. Mrs. Tatum, the wife of Thomas Tatum, also leaves a daughter, Aretha Tatum, and two sons, Andre Tatum and Thomas Tatum Jr., all of Chicago; six sisters, Jessie Mae Hampton, Marsel Owens, Georgia Cole and Marquita Poole, all of Ashland, Annie Mason of Memphis and Ethel B. Harris of East St. Louis, Ill.; five brothers, Ted Harris, Dwight D. Harris and James Harris, all of Memphis, George Harris of Ashland and Jimmy Harris of Arlington, Texas, and three grandchildren.

Byhalia -- James Edward Goad, 65, retired from the Air Force, died Thursday at his home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holly Springs Funeral Home with burial in Byhalia cemetery. Mr. Goad, the husband of Shelia Murkin Goad, also leaves three daughters, Teresa Goad of Olive Branch, Jean Goad of Warsaw and Stacy Perryman of Barton; a son, Kenneth Goad of Jonesboro, Ark., six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Coldwater -- Blundell Sansom, 71, retired supervisor for the Corps of Engineers, died Wednesday at Methodist University Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia with burial in Bethel cemetery in Coldwater. He was a Korean War Army veteran. Mr. Sansom, the husband of Shirley Porter Sansom, also leaves a daughter, Kay S. Kopf of Coldwater; three sons, Steven Sansom of Jackson, Michael Sansom of Senatobia and Mark Sansom of Coldwater; his mother, Sarah Lillie Sansom of Hickman, Ky.; three sisters, Ruth Ann Rice of Hickman, Joyce Nell Ray of Peru, Ind., and Katherine Elmore of East Ridge, Tenn.; a brother, Larry N. Sansom of Hickman, and eight grandchildren.

Corinth -- Carrie Myrtle Dixon, 98, retired educator for Alcorn County School System and co-owner/operator of Dixon's Service Station for 35 years, died Tuesday at her home. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at McPeters Funeral Home with burial in Henry cemetery. She was the oldest member of First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Dixon, the widow of Lloyd Dixon, leaves a daughter, Carrie Sue Holder, and two sons, Joe Lloyd Dixon and Billy Dixon, all of Corinth, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Crowder -- James Lamar Bailey, 73, retired corrections officer for Mississippi Department of Corrections, died Wednesday at Quitman County Hospital and Nursing Home in Marks. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Crowder Baptist Church with burial in Crowder cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home in Marks has charge. Mr. Bailey, the widower of Pauline Holland Bailey, leaves a daughter, Tammy Bailey Houston of Olive Branch; two sons, Randy Lamar Bailey of Crowder and Darron Lane Bailey of Southaven; four sisters, Earline Bailey White of Crowder, Louise Bailey Wimberly and Sue Bailey Sutton, both of Lambert, and Shirley Bailey Vowell of Batesville; a brother, Harold Wayne Bailey of Crowder, and six grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Crowder cemetery Fund or the American Heart Association.

He was a member and former Sunday school teacher at Asbury United Methodist Church, a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and the Masonic Lodge, a graduate of Rust College and attended the University of Mississippi. Mr. Bruce, the widower of Vivian Jackson Bruce, leaves two daughters, Pat Bruce Lowe of Birmingham and Sheila Bruce Renfroe of Memphis; two sons, Louis Robert Bruce and Marvin Maurice Bruce, both of Holly Springs; five sisters, Emma Rucker, Vernice Henderson and Rosemary Bruce, all of Milwaukee, Pauline Goree of Shannon and Geneva Murphy of Dania, Fla.; three brothers, Percy Bruce of Batesville, Warren Bruce of Oxford and Calvin Bruce of Milwaukee, and six grandchildren.
