Hernando - EVELYN HUNSUCKER, 84, homemaker, died June 30, 2005 at DeSoto Healthcare. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hernando Funeral Home with burial in Gray's Creek cemetery. Mrs. Hunsucker, the widow of Dudley Hunsucker, leaves a son, Jerrol Hunsucker of Coldwater, MS; two sisters, Jimmie Collums and Sue Mixon, both of Houston, MS; three brothers, Leon Lambert and Charles Lambert, both of Coldwater, and Bobby Lambert of Harrison, AR, and a granddaughter, Natasha Rhoda of Hernando. The family requests that memorials be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

South Carolina, Southern Pines - BESSIE JEAN HOPE, 75, died Sunday, June 26, 2005 in Ellicott City, MD. She was the wife of 53 years of the late Oscar Leonard 'Chuck' Hope Jr. of Southern Pines. She was preceded in death by her father, Harry Wilt, Osawatomie, KS; her brother, Edward Wilt of Osawatomie; and her mother, Bessie Mae Poley Wilt Devine, Osawatomie, and a native of Days, MS. She is survived by four children. Jean Freeland, Spottsylvania, VA; Richard Hope, Ellicott City, MD; Rebecca DeMarco, New Windsor, MD; and Michael Hope, Sykesville, MD; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She also leaves an aunt, Nannie Poley Riley, Hernando, MS and Centerville, AL. Mrs. Hope was a devoted mother, grandmother, and homemaker, and always attentive to her extended family as well. She was an avid reader, and she enjoyed duplicate bridge, trap shooting and volunteer work. Optimism, faithfulness, a sturdy spirit, a great sense of humor, and an infectious laugh were hallmarks of her presence. Visitation is from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the Hernando Funeral Home, 2285 Highway 51 South, Hernando, MS. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with burial service to follow at New Bethlehem Presbyterian Church cemetery on Church Road, Nesbit, MS.

Coffeeville - DAVID ALLEN PORTER, 70, retired building contractor, died July 8, 2005 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS. He was born icon on May 24, 1935. Services will be Monday, July 11, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Coffeeville First Baptist Church in Coffeeville, MS. Visitation will begin at noon and continue until the service time. Burial will be in the Coffeeville cemetery in Coffeeville, MS. Rev. Donnie Stewart and Rev. Daniel Hathorne will officiate. Garner-Harper Funeral Directors of Coffeeville has charge of the arrangments. During his career, Mr. Porter employed and trained many local men, many of whom went on to establish their own building businesses or otherwise remained involved in his craft. Many of the homes in Yalobusha and surrounding counties were built by Porter Construction Company. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lula Beth Burns Porter of Coffeeville; three daughters: Teresa Porter Persick and her husband, Virgil Ralph Persick, of Grosse Tete, LA, Cindy Porter Wells of Laurel, MS, and Betty Alene Porter of Coffeeville, MS; a sister, Betty Porter Summers and her husband, Don, of Batesville, MS; a brother, Tommy Gene Porter and his wife, Sue, of Jackson, MS; and four grandchildren: Lauren Elizabeth Persick of Oxford, MS, David Ory Persick of Oxford, MS, Porter Hardy Wells of Laurel, MS and John Edward Wells of Laurel, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents: Charles Ory Porter and Rubye Brower Porter and a daughter, Rose Marie Porter. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Coffeeville, the American Cancer Society or the charity of the donor's choice. He is survived by his wife, Helen Delorse Tippitt of Lake Cornorant, MS; a daughter, Jennie Lynn Tippitt, of Lake Cornorant, MS; 2 sons, Chad Allen Tippitt and Michael Aaron Tippitt, both of Lake Cornorant, MS; his parents, Ralph and Mary Tippitt of Sardis, MS; a sister, Susan Ronk, of Alamo, TN; a brother, Larry Tippitt of Lake Cornorant, MS; and his grandparents, W.W. Stokely and Dorothy Stokely, both of Jackson, TN. His was preceded in death by his grandmother, Hazel Stokely. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Tippitt was a truck driver for Roadway Express and died on a scheduled run to Knoxville, TN. He was a member of Lake Forest Church of Christ. He leaves his wife of 52 years, Margaret Ragsdale; 3 sons, Edward Ragsdale, Jr. (Eddie), Jimmy Ragsdale, and Mike Ragsdale; his daughter, Linda Ragsdale Fortune, all of Olive Branch. He also leaves his mother, Louise Ragsdale; his brother, Don Ragsdale; 2 sisters, Bettie Stevenson and Mary Pate; 11 grand children; and 2 great grand daughters. Texas, Georgetown - Ronald E. Billingsley, 57, died July 7, 2005 in Georgetown, TX. Ronald was born icon September 13, 1947, in Oxford, MS, to Elvis Crawford Billingsley and Bertha Arnold Billingsley. He married icon Elizabeth Ann Stewart Billingsley on March 21, 1970 in Como, MS. A graduate of North Panola High School and Northwest Mississippi Junior College with an Engineering Degree he worked for IBM and retired in 2005 as a project planner after 37 years of service. Ronald was a Methodist by faith and practice and participated in the church as a Sunday School Teacher and UMYF Director. He was also active in the Boy Scouts of America serving as Cub Master, Scout Master, Brotherhood of OA, District Award of Merit and he was active in the PTA. Ronald was a very happy, cheerful man who loved the outdoors. His twenty year scouting career had a powerful and long lasting impact on the hundreds of boys and young men that called him "Mr.B". Ronald is suvived by his wife, Elizabeth of Georgetown; his son, Ronald Tracy Billingsley and wife Angela; grandchildren, Steven, Taylor and Elizabeth Nicholson; a brother, Kenneth Max Billingsley of Harmontown, MS; sisters, Brenda Fletcher and husband Mike of Olive Branch, MS, Donice Billingsley of Memphis, TN, Susan Baze and husband Dick of Midland, TX; and his loveable companions, Mr. Bingle, Noah and Daisy. He was preceded in death by his parents; Elvis and Bertha Billingsley. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2005, at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel. Since retiring from Germantown Exxon in 1995, he has been Co-Owner and Operator of the Auto Clinic in Southaven, MS. Mr. Free leaves his wife of 40 years Lynn Hoover Free of Southaven; one daughter Lisa Free Lashlee and a son Kevin Free both of Southaven; and 5 grandchildren. Rolling Fork - Dorothy Lucille Edwards Cortright died on Wednesday, July 27, at her daughter's home in Ridgeland following a brief illness. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at The United Methodist Church in Rolling Fork. Burial will follow in Mound cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Fellowship Hall of the church following the interment. The oldest of 3 sisters, Mrs. Cortright was born icon on January 14, 1922, in Lula to the late Vernon and Lela Beevers Edwards. She graduated as valedictorian of Lula-Rich School before studying music at Mississippi State College for Women, from which she graduated in 1944. She moved to Rolling fork in the fall of 1945 to teach music and piano. In 1946 she married icon Cauley Cortright, and together they made their home there. Mrs. Cortright has been an active and faithful member of The United Methodist Church of Rolling Fork, serving as an organist and choir director for almost 60 years. She was an avid gardener and a long-time member of the Rolling Fork Garden Club, having served in recent years as it's chair of Civic Improvement. Mrs. Cortright was devoted to her family- a loving sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. She is survived by 3 of her 4 daughters: Ann Elizabeth Cortright Quarrier and her husband Archie of Keswick, VA; Mary Cornelia Cortright of Ridgeland, and Dorothy Jean Cortright Copeland and her husband Doug of Greensboro, NC. She is also survived by her sister, Juanita Edwards McNair of Ridgeland; her son-in-law, Dr. Richard F. Stowers, Jr. of Lynchburg, VA; her 5 grandchildren: Cornelia Michelle Cortright of Ridgeland, Elizabeth Ann Stowers, Frazier Caldwell Stowers, and Richard Covington Stowers of Lynchburg, VA, and William Cortright Copeland of Greensboro, NC; and her nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mrs. Cortright was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, George Caldwell Cortright; their daughter, Lela Frances Cortright Stowers; and a sister, LeVerne Edwards Varner.
