CHARLESTON - CHARLES L. SMITH "Bobby", age 55, heavy equipment operator, died Monday, December 27, 1993, at his home in Enid. Rev. Gary Hankins conducted services 11 A.M., Wednesday, December 29, 1994 at the Womble Funeral Home Chapel. The Hanks Family provided the sacred music. Burial was in Oakland cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Odie Mae Presley Smith, four daughters, Glinda Rena Cook of Columbus, Teresa Jo Smith of Tupelo, and Elizabeth Ann Smith of Enid, five sisters, Ilene Dees of Enid, Jean Johnson of Water Valley, Christine Brown of Toledo, Ohio, Mary Bunch of Horn Lake and Pearl Boyles of Water Valley, five brothers, Delmer Smith, Lester Smith and James Smith, all of Atlanta, GA. and Wilson Smith of Horn Lake and seven grandchildren. Pallbearers were Gerald Clayton, David Johnson, Randy Parks, Jeff Smith, Mike Smith and Ronnie Smith.

CLARKSDALE - HENRY THOMAS VAUGHN, SR. age 80, died Monday, December 27, 1993, at Lackey Memorial Hospital in Forest. Dr. Thomas Tutor officiated services 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 1994 at Oakhurst Baptist Church in Clarksdale with burial in Rosemound cemetery in Tutwiler with a Masonic Graveside service. McNeil-Nowell Funeral Home of Clarksdale had charge of arrangements. He was a retired engineer for Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge F & AM #535, Tutwiler and honorary member of Clarksdale Lodge, a member of Order of Eastern Star, Clarksdale, Chapter #115 and a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Colleen Vaughn of Clarksdale, two sons, William Darrell Vaughn of Cleveland and Henry T. Vaughn, Jr. of Jackson, one daughter Fredna Pearson of Tutwiler; one brother, Rev. A.R. Vaughn of Forest; four sisters, Lilla Mae Bailey of Sparta Tenn., Jewell Moncrief of Kenner, LA, Harriet Boozer of Forest and Quida Petrowskey of Tampa, FL; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

CHARLESTON - FLOYD JONES, 72 of St Petersburg, FL., formerly of Charleston, retired tool and die maker, died Wednesday, January 12, 1994, in St. Petersburg. Services were 2 p.m. Sunday, January 16, 1994 at Newsom Funeral Home in Charleston with burial in Magnolia Gardens. He leaves a daughter, Anita Kay Marsano of St. Petersburg; a son, Wayne Jones of Jacksonville, FL.; three sisters, Beatrice Roach, Mattie Jean Young and Juanita Holland, all of Charleston; two brothers, A. J. Jones and Tommy G. Jones, both of Madison and a grandson.

CHARLESTON - CARY WALLS, 57, retired Tennessee Valley Authority employee, died Saturday, January 15, 1994, at his home. Services were 1 p.m., Friday, January 21, 1994 at New Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Batesville with burial in New Bethlehem cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home of Sardis had charge. The husband of Velma Walls of Courtland, he is survived also by two sons, Keith Walls and Allen Hines, both of Courtland; two daughters, Sharon Johnson of Courtland and Carolyn Flimmes of Oxford; three sisters, Essie Bobo of Courtland, Betty Sanford of Milwaukee and Nessie Pugh of Detroit and three brothers, Harford Walls, Jr. of Detroit and Leland Walls and Marvin Walls, both of Courtland.

PHILIPP - MILDRED COLE MEEKS CALDWELL, 83, retired artist, died Sunday, January 16, 1994, at her granddaughter home in Brandon. Services were 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 19, 1994, at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home of Greenwood with burial in Teoc Presbyterian Church cemetery near Greenwood. She had been a housemother at Mississippi State University and was a member of Philipp Methodist Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Caldwell, the widow of Nathan Troy Caldwell, leaves two sons, William M. Meeks of Yazoo City and Robert L Meeks of Geneva, N.Y.; two stepdaughters, Lucretia Farris of Fort Worth, Tx, and Patsy Aucoin of Jackson. two sisters, Marion Brown of Vicksburg and Edna Proctor of Ethel; a brother, J.D. Cole of Clinton, and 12 grandchildren.

CHARLESTON - EMME KIRKWOOD GREER, 90, died Tuesday, January 11, 1994, at Tallahatchie General Hospital. Rev L.C. Blue conducted funeral services Saturday, January 15, 1994 at 1 p.m. at Riverview Headstart Center in Philipp. Burial was at Holly Grove cemetery in Philipp. Benevolent Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs Greer was a member of Solomon Chapel M.B. Church at Philipp. The widow of John Greer, Mrs. Greer was preceded in death by five of her 13 children. She is survived by five daughters, Mary Greer of Chicago, Earnice Kinsey of Memphis, Dorothy Brown of Charleston, and Tomella Williams and Elizabeth Kimbrough, both of Gary, Ind.; three sons, Ben Greer of Greenwood, Charlie Greer of Philipp and Herschel Greer of Chicago; 38 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

LILLIEN DENISE CUNNINGHAM, 28, died Thursday, December 30, 1993, in Hinds County. Ms. Cunningham worked as a waitress. The funeral was at 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 4, 1994, at Newsom Funeral Home. Burial was in Friendship Church of God cemetery in Enid. Ms. Cunningham is survived by a son, Zane Cunningham of Jackson; a brother, Wade Bailey of Yazoo City; three sisters, Meshea Bailey of Madison, and Matasha Harris and Sonya Land of Jackson;her mother Gale Land of Jackson; her father Perry Cunningham fo Cascilla; her stepfather, Cecil D. Land of Jackson; Her grandmother, Elsie Trusty of Cascilla and her grandfather, Glenn Crenshaw of Charleston.

BENNIE ALEXANDER WARE, 79, died, Friday December 31, 1993, at Oberton Park Health Center in Memphis. Mrs Ware was a housewife. The funeral was a 1 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 1994, at Newsom Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Buster Thomas officiating. Burial was in Magnolia Gardens cemetery in Charleston. Mrs. Ware was the widow of Shurford Ware. She is survived by three sons, Buster Alexander of Lake Village, AR, Clarence Alexander of Joliet, IL; and Marvin Alexander of Baton Rouge, LA; six daughters, Ruby Alexander of Memphis, Louise Alexander of Fort Worth, TX, Dolly Scallions of Greenville, Mattie Davis of Lambert, Brenda Griffin of Oakland and Bertha Calder of Grenda; three sisters, Ruby Stuart and Winnie Thompson of Cleveland and Maude Spells of Orlando, FL; two brothers, Clint Hunt of Pittsburg and Archie Hunt of Florence and 32 grandchildren.

MARGIE MAGDALENE WINTERS, 64, died, Friday December 31, 1993, at her residence in Hardy. Mrs Winters was a housewife and was a member of Turkey Foot Fork Church of God of Prophecy. Services were 2 p.m., Saturday January 1, 1994, at Adams Arbor Church of God of Prophecy in Paynes with the Rev. Ray Whitten officiating. Burial was in New Smith cemetery in Cascilla. Mrs. Winters is survived by her husband, Ray Winters of Hardy; three sons, Charles Winters and Terry Winters of Parchman, and Ronnie Winters of Hardy; four brothers Henry Winters of Charleston and James Winters, Ed Winters and Jessie Winters of Holcomb; a sister, Dovie Smith, three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

TUTWILER - CHARLES FRANKLIN 'DUDE' McGRAW, 73, retired farmer, died Saturday, Nov. 12, 1994, of heart failure at his home. Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at Linn United Methodist Church in Doddsville with burial in the Church cemetery there. Card Funeral Home had charge. He was a member of Tutwiler United Methodist Church. Mr. McGraw, the widower of Elsie Rayburn McGraw, leaves three daughters, Wanda Braswell of Raymondville, Texas, Barbara McGraw of Austin, Texas, and Kay Terell of Water Valley; three sons, Charles Alex McGraw of Ruleville, Wayne McGraw of Clarksdale and Dennis McGraw of Tutwiler; two sisters, Hilda McMahon of Rooling Fork and Tiny Kimbrell of Greenville, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

CHARLESTON - BINA McCORD COX, age 101, homemaker, died Wednesday Nov. 16, 1994, at the Tallahatchie General Hospital. born icon in Tallahatchie County, she was a member of Friendship East Baptist Church. Rev. J.G. Thomas conducted services 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 18 at the Womble Funeral Home Chapel. Louanne Cossar, organist, and vocalist, presented the sacred music. Interment was in Smith cemetery at Rosebloom. Survivors include a niece, Jean McCord Smith, her caretaker; 2 grandsons and 4 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Travis Best, Gene Hall, Charles McAtee, Jody Smith, Perry Whitten, and Charles Worley.

CHARLESTON - CHARLIE PATTERSON SMALLWOOD, 86, retired farmer, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 1994, of heart disease at Grenada Lake Medical Center. Services were 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, at Newsom Funeral Home with burial in Magnolia Garden cemetery. The widower of Bertha Leona Smallwood, he leaves four daughters, Vivian Robinson of Panola, Texas, Patsy Brook of Waskom, Texas, and Shelby Rhea and Charlene Flippo, both of Memphis; two sons, Hilton Smallwood and Samuel Smallwood, both of Charleston; 41 grandchildren and 71 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

CHARLESTON - ROBERT MONTGOMERY WHITE, age 82, retired merchant and salesman, died Thursday, Nov. 24, 1994, at Garden Park Community Hospital in Gulfport. born icon in Lincoln County, he was a longtime resident of Charleston. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shrine Temple. He is remembered for his portrayal of Santa Claus in Charleston for many years. Dr. Glen Wilkerson and Dr. Phil Gerber conducted services 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27 at the Charleston First United Methodist Church. where he was a member. Cindy Brougher, pianist; Sandra Hardy, organist; and Louanne Cossar, soloist; provided the sacred music. Interment was in the Charleston cemetery with Womble Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The widower of Ruth Mohon White, he is survived by one daughter, Patsy McLemore of Cypress, Texas; one son, Robert E. White of Picayune; one brother, Albert Douglas of Lawton, Okla., and four grandchildren. Pallbearers were Greg Barnett, Todd McLemore, Charles Nelson, Bobby Osbarn, Patrick White, and Scott White.

GRENDADA - BILLIE KILPATRICK WILLIAMS, age 72, retired military technician for the National Guard, died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 1994, of cancer at his home. He attended Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grenada and was a World War II veteran, receiving a Bronze Star. Dr. Clarence Cooper Jr., minister of Emmanuel Baptist Church, conducted services 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 25, at the Womble Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston. Sacred music was presented by Ruby Adams, organist. Interment was in the Springhill cemetery near Oakland with a full military service. The widower of Ethel Donaldson Williams, is survived by on daughter, Rhonda Kay Williams of Grenada.

TUTWILER - JOHN GRAY BELL, 83, retired farmer, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 1994, of pneumonia at the North Sunflower County Hospital in Ruleville. Services were 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at National Funeral Home in Clarksdale with burial in Brazil cemetery. He was a member of the Sumner Church of God. The husband of Clene Adelene Walker Bell, he also leaves a daughter, Maxine O'Neal of Clarksdale; four sons, John Thomas Bell of Highland, Fla., David G. Bell of Drew, Stevie Bell of Amory and Lester Paul of McQueeney, Texas; two sisters, Jewel Green of Zapata, Texas, and Norene Childress of Brazil; a brother, C.D. Bell of Fort Worth, Texas; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

CHARLESTON - JAMES WALDEN DARBY, 63, of Kosse, Texas formerly of Charleston, independent trucker, died Nov. 11, 1994 of cancer at his home. Services were Nov. 13, with burial in Kosse cemetery. Groesback Funeral Home had charge. He was a Korean War Air Force veteran. The Husband of Irene Heinen Darby, he also leaves two daughters, Barbara J. Williams of Katy Texas, and Rebecca M. Darby of New Oleans; a son, William G. Darby of Portland, Ore.,

ENID - ESTELLE CARVAN HUBBARD, 90, of Enid formerly of Pope, retired teacher, died Thursday, Nov. 24, 1994, of heart failure at her home. services were 11 a.m., Saturday Nov. 26, at the Pope Baptist Church where she was a member, with burial in Chapel Hill cemetery east of Pope. Dickins Funeral Home had charge. Mrs. Hubbard, the widow of Haywood Hubbard, leaves a brother, Gerald W. Carvan of Oakland.

CHARLESTON - JOHN GLEN DUNGAN, JR., 45, teacher and football coach at Charleston High School, died Tuesday, Nov. 22, at South Panola County Hospital in Batesville. Services were 2 p.m. Friday Nov. 25, at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Enid with burial in the church cemetery. Newsom Funeral Home had charge. He was a graduate of Memphis State University. The husband of Carolyn Dungan, he also leaves three daughters, Elaine Rowland, and Laura Dungan of Charleston and Raquel Dungan of Memphis; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Dungan of Enid; a sister, Gay Lynn Groover of Atlanta; and two brothers, Gary Dungan of Memphis and Brannon Dungan of Vidalia, La.

CHARLESTON - KATHLEEN MULLEN POWELL, 69, retired supervisor for Taylor Publishing Co., died Friday, Nov. 25, 1994, of heart failure in Van Cleave. Services were Wednesday, Nov. 30, at Newsom Funeral Home with burial in Stonefield cemetery near Cascilla. Ms. Powell leaves a daughter, Linda Darlene Morgan of Van Cleave two sons, Rufus Powell of Indianola and Duane Powell of Leverett; two sisters, Ailene Selby of Charleston and May Ellen Schillingburg of Menomonie, Wis., two brothers, Lester Mullen and Clovis Mullen, both of Charleston, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

CHARLESTON - CHARLES ROBERT SMITH, age 64, of Alexandria, La. formerly of Charleston, retired branch manager for General Electric Credit Corp., died Friday, Dec. 2, 1994, of cancer at Rapides General Hospital in Alexandria. He was a member of Jackson Street Church of Christ in Alexandria. Curtis Mancess and Bill Nettles conducted services 10 a.m. Monday Dec. 5, at the Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Alexandria. Wesley Arabie conducted graveside services 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Charleston cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Lois Smith Smith; three daughters, Paula M. Davis of Tacoma, Wash., Cynthia Firmin and Amy Taylor, both of Alexandria; one son, Charles Robert Smith Jr. of Riverside, Calif.; one sister, Lora Joy Box of Cleveland and six grandchildren. Pallbearers were Benny Allbritton, Tommy Ashcraft, R.L. Box, Jr., Kenneth Davis, and J.W. Turman.

WEBB - MATTIE WEEKS WINTERS, 85, homemaker, died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 1994, of heart disease at Greenwood-Leflore Hospital. services were 2 p.m. Friday Dec. 2, at Webb Baptist Church with burial in Woodlawn cemetery here. Newsom Funeral Home had charge. Mrs Winters, the widow of Floyd Winters, leaves four daughters, Elua Foster of Webb, Delia Melton of Charleston, Becky Smith of Clarksdale, and Betty Lou Campbell of Batesville; a son, Alvin Winters of Oakland; two brothers, Clearance Weeks of Friendship, 223 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

BRANDON - HAYDEN H. PRITCHARD, 80, died Saturday, Dec. 3, 1994, of heart failure at River Oaks Hospital. He was a retired farmer and business man. Prayer service was held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, in the suite of Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home, Parkway Chapel, Ridgeland with Dr. John Case officiating. A native of Charleston, he was a resident of Brandon since 1968. He was co-founder of Pritchard Oil Company with his son. He was a member of Thornton Hunting Club and was an avid hunter and sportsman. He is survived by his wife, Ester Pritchard; one son, Ken Pritchard of Madison; three daughters, Bonnie Tedford of Brandon, Judith Pritchard and Susan Bronski of Atlanta, Ga. and 8 grandchildren. Pallbearers were Ronald Tedford, William Pritchard, Everette Bronski, Keith Pritchard, Michael Pritchard, Robert Pritchard, Jimmy Pritchar and John Pritchard.
