CHARLESTON - ZANA BAILEY ANDERSON, age 92, homemaker, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 1994, at the Tallahatchie Extended Care Facility. She was a member of Charleston First Baptist Church. Graveside services were conducted by Rev. Gary Adams at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 28. 1994, at the Charleston cemetery, Womble Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. The widow of Ronald Whitney Anderson, she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Jeanne R. Reed of Hobart, Indiana; 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. The family requests any memorials be sent to the Tallahatchie Extended Care Facility in Charleston.

CHARLESTON - IRA NOEL NELSON, age 81, retired farmer, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 1994, at the Tallahatchie General Hospital after a massive stroke. Rev. Clay Baker conducted services 2 p.m.; Sunday feb. 27, 1994, at the Womble Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs Ruby Adfams, organist, provided the sacred music. Interment was if the Oak Grove Methodist cemetery near Charleston. Survivors include hes wife, Mrs. Marjorie Nelson of Charleston; one daughter, Mrs. Nina Milam of Jackson; 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Greg Bridges, Shawn Cole, Terry Cole, George Seymore Milam, and Alec Nelson.Memorials may be sent to Oak Grove cemetery Fund .

CHARLESTON - LUTHER WINFORD "L.W." ROBINSON, 72, retired mechanic, died Monday, Feb. 28, 1994, of heart failure at his home. Services were 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 2, 1994, at Charleston Church of God, where he was a member, with burial in Magnolia Garden cemetery here. Newsom Funeral Home had charge of arrangements. The husband of Mary Agnes Robinson, he also leaves two daughters, Wanda Renfro of Batesville and Deloris Trout of Charleston; a son Luther Winford Robinson "Louie", Jr. of Charleston; two sisters, Iva Mae Ashmore of Charleston and Inez Smith of Benton, and seven granchildren.

OAKLAND - VIOLA GADDY WELLS, 97, retired co-owner and operator of The Corner Drug Store in Oakland after 50 years, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 1994 of heart disease at Hamilton County Nursing Home in Chattanooga. Graveside services were Tuesday, March 1, 1994, at 11 a.m., in Oakland cemetery, Garner-Harper Funeral Home of Grenada had charge. She was a member of Oakland United Methodist Church. Mrs. Wells, the widow of Thomas Graham Wells, leaves a son, Gen. T.G. Wells, Jr. of Chattanooga, and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Wells, and two sons, Robert Lee Wells of Grenada and Gaddy Wells of Texas. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Oakland United Methodist Church

CHARLESTON - LONNIE RUSSELL "RUSS' COLEMAN, afe 45 of Woodstock, Ga., architect for State Department of Corrections, died Friday, March 18, 1994, at the Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Ga. A member of First Baptist Church in Woodstock, GA., he was also a former Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts of America. Funeral services were held 3 p.m., Saturday, March 19, at Woodstock Funeral Home. Rev. Gerald Shook conducted greveside services 2 p.m. Monday March 21, at the Magnolia Garden cemetery at Paynes. Jared L.Coleman, son played the taps. Womble Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. He is survived by hes wife, Mrs Sharon Worsham Coleman of Woodstock, GA.; two sons, Warren R. Coleman and Jared L. Coleman of Woodstock, GA.; His parents, J.L. and Irene Coleman of Statesboro, Ga.; three sisters, Linda Mason of Swanquarter, NC., Phyllis Wiggins of Statesboro, Ga., Jenny Moore of Stapelton Ga. He was a son-in-law of Jams Carey and Myrtis Worsham of Paynes. The family requests any memorials be sent to Gideons International or American Cancer Society.

OAKLAND - LULA B. MOSELY, 71, housewife, died Saturday, March 12, 1994, at her residence. Services were Saturday, March 19, at 1 p.m. at Parrish Grove M.B. Church in Oakland with Rev. W.H. Johnson officiating. Burial was in Church cemetery. She was a member of Massey Grove M.B. Church in Oakland. She is survived by 3 daughters, Rosie Moore of Oakland, Lavonne Moore of Oakland and Nancy Moore of Chicago; 6 sons, Paul Armstrong of Oakland, Tommie Lee Moore of Oakland, Sylvester Moore of Chicago, Louis Armstrong of Chicago, James Nelson of New Oleans, James R. Moore of Oakland, and 3 sisters, Nancy Holland, Addie Bradford and Mary Scott, all of Oakland. Cooley's Mortuary of Batesville had charge of arrangements.

CHARLESTON - MARY ETTA TRIPLETT HILL, 60, retired school teacher, died Saturday morning April 23, 1994, at her home after a long struggle with cancer. Rev. C. L. Shelton performed services Wednesday, April 27, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, where she was a member and served as class leader and stewardess, with burial in the Oliver cemetery in her native hometown of Louisville. Century Funeral Home of Greenwood was in charge. Pallbearers were the stewards of St. Paul Church. Mrs Hill taught for 26 years at the Charleston Elementary School. She was a graduate of Coahoma Junior College and Mississippi Valley State University and did further study at Alcorn State and Delta State Universities. She was a member of the Mississippi Association of Educators and served for a number of years as youth director for the Business and Professional Women's Little Sisters Club. Mrs. Hill is survived by a daughter, Elma Jean Hill; a son Hirouth Hill; her mother, Odell Bozeman; and a grandson, all of Charleston.

CHARLESTON - MARY ALMA OWENS, 81, retired nurse, died Monday, April 18, 1994, of complications from a stroke at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in oxford. Services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, at Newsom Funeral Home with burial in the Charleston cemetery. She was a member of the Charleston Church of Christ. Mrs Owens, the widow of Lamar Owens, leaves a son, Robert Lamar Owens of Natchez, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

GLENDORA - PEYTON HODGE PROCTOR, 83, farmer and farm manager, died Thursday, April 21, 1994, of heart failure at his home. Services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 24, at the Wilson &Knight Funeral Home of Greenwood with burial in Woodlawn cemetery in Sumner. He was a Lions Club member. Mr. Proctor, the husband of Agnes Hoffman Proctor, also leaves three sons, James Proctor of Collins, Mick Proctor of Greenwoodand Phillip Wesley Proctor of Conyers, Ga.; a sister, Nancy Proctor King of Greenwood, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The family requests any memorials be sent to Glendora Methodist Church, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or Kidney Foundation.

ANGUILLA - ADDIE LAWS BARRETT, 102, of Anguilla, died Tuesday, April 19, at her home. Services were Saturday, April 23, 1994, at Locust Grove M.B. Church of Anguilla, where she was a member, with burial in the Locust Grove cemetery there. Smith Funeral Home of Belzoni was in charge of arrangements. Mrs Barrett was born icon June 19, 1891, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Laws of Charleston. She was married icon to James Barrett in March of 1960. Both Mr. Barrett and their daughter, Flora Copeland of Charleston preceded her in death. She is survived by a sister, Leola Moore of Anguilla.

CHARLESTON - BENFORD "PETE" McGARRITY, 75, retired maintenance employee for Mississippi highway Department died Saturday, April 30, 1994, at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Rev. Curtis Shelton conducted services at 2 p.m. Monday, May 2, at the Adams Arbor Church of God of Prophecy near Paynes, where he was a member. Mrs Sarah Shelton, pianist, and Mrs. Joan Ross, soloist provided the sacred music. Burial was in the church cemetery with Womble Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Floy Kerr McGarrity; four daughters, Mrs. Dorothy J. Baker and Mrs. Rose L Wilson both of Grenada, Mrs. Maggie"Bobbie" White of Atlanta, and Ms Jo Ann Williams of Charleston; a son Benford McGarrity, Jr. of Grenada; a brother, Clyde L McGarrity of Charleston; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were John D. Thorn, Raymond L Thorn, Clay Whitten, Cris Williams, Jack B. Wilson and Jeff Wilson.

ENID - EARL D. JOHNSON, 52, of Chicago, formerly of Enid, stocker for Hotpoint in Chicago, died Thursday, April 28, 1994, of heart disease in Chicago. Services were at 1:30 ap.m. Saturday, April 30, at Poplar Spring Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member, with burial in Poplar Spring cemetery here, Cooley's Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Johnson, also leaves two daughters, Lisa Johnson and Shan Johnson and a son, Timothy Johnson all of Chicago; four sisters, Shirley Johnson and Ester Johnson, both of Iowa, Annie Margaret Johnson of Charleston and Edith Johnson of Chicago; and five brothers, Willie Henry Johnson, Frank Johnson and Joe Lee Johnson, all of Enid, Ransom Johnson of California and Tom Ernest Johnson of Chicago.

CHARLESTON - CLYDE E. HOLLAND, SR., 88, retired farmer and Mississippi State Highway Department employee, died of heart failure Monday, Aug. 1, 1994, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church. Rev. Talmadge Lane and Rev. Hartzell conducted services at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, at Newsom Funeral Home. Sacred organ and vocal music was provided by Mrs. Allison Hooand. Burial was in Oakland cemetery. the husband of Marders Coulter Holland, also leaves two daughters, Mary Dean Lane of Southaven and Jo Anne Vandervoort of Excelsior Springs, Mo., four sons, Clyde Holland, Jr., of Tillatoba, James Holland of Fulton, Charles Holland of Magee and Charles Holland of Byhalia; three sisters, Frances Adams of Oakland, Tyna Jones of Port Gibson and Margaret Hawks fo Memphis; a brother, Thomas Holland of Oakland, nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were, Mike Line, James Holland, II, Chad Holland, eric Holland, Brad Holland and David Merry.

SUMNER - VELMA LEWIS CARR CARNATHAN, age 90, retired Postmaster, died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 1994, at Nortwest Mississippi Medical Center in Clarksdale. Services were 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, at Sumner Baptist Church with burial in Woodlawn cemetery in Sumner. Rev. Carl White officiated. She was a member of the Sumner Baptist Church, Sumner WMU and Sumner Bridge Club. The widow of Sam Carr and Philip Carnathan, she is survived by one son, Sam Carr, Jr. of Tutwiler; two daughters, Bobbie C Hathorn of Gulf Breeze, Fla. and Patti Carr Black of Jackson, 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. The family request any memorials be sent to St. Jude's Children Hospital in Memphis.

TUTWILER - DELORES ODOM HUFFMAN, 84, retired teacher for Dublin (Miss)School, died Friday, Aug. 5, 1994, of heart failure at her home. Services were 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug 7, at the First Baptist Church of Tutwiler, where she was a member, with burial in Rosemound cemetery, McNeil-Nowell Funeral Home had charge. She was a graduate of University of Mississippi. Mrs. Huffman, the widow of Roy A. Huffman, leaves several nieces and nephews.

WEBB - MARIE WILLIAMS MELTON, 54 homemaker, died Thursday, March 17, 1994, at Baptist Central Hospital in Memphis. Services were 2 p.m. Friday, March 18, at Sumner Baptist Church with burial in Woodlawn cemetery in Sumner. Rev. Bob White officiated. McNeil-Nowell Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.She graduated from West Tallahatchie High School and was a member of Sumner Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband Paul Melton of Webb; 2 sons, Fred Melton of Charleston and Phillip Melton of Westl one daughter, Paula Melton Cobb of Isola; one brother, Bobby Williams of Winona and three grandchildren. The family requests any memorials be sent to Strider Academy in Charleston.

OAKLAND - JOHN ROBERT MOORE, 46, truck driver for Barton Construction, died Saturday, March 19, 1994 at Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi in Oxford. Services were Saturday, March 26, at 12 noon at Parrish Grove M.B. Church in Oakland with Rev. Birde Brooks presiding.Burial was in the Church cemetery with Cooley's Mortuary of Batesville in charge fo arrangements. He is survived bytwo sons; Michael Bland of California and Johnathon Sandifer of Milwaukee, Wis., three sisters, Rosie Moore and Lavonne Moore of Oaklandand Nancy Moore of Chicago; six brothers, Paul Armstrong of Oakland, Louis Armstrong of Chicago, Tommie Moore of Chicago, James Nelson of New Oleans, and Joe Louis Jenkins of Oakland.

SCOBEY - MELTON RAY MITCHELL, 81, self employed truck driver, died Monday, March 21, 1994, of cardiac arrest at Grenada Lake Medical Center. Services were 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, at Garner-Harper Funeral Home in Grenada with burial in Smith cemetery in Rosebloom. He is a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Grenada. The husband of Agnes "Polly" D. Mitchell, also oeaves three daughters, Anne Lee of Crystal Springs, Bobbie Williams of Coffeeville, and Billie McCracken of Grenada; two sons, Melton "Buddy" Mitchell of Grenada and Paul Mitchell of Duck Hill, three brothers Ralston Mitchell of Grenada, Skeet Mitchell of Charleston and Raymond Mitchell of Cascilla. 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

METAIRIE, LA - MICHAEL JOSEPH HALL, 22, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 1994 at his home. Graveside services were Thursday, Feb. 17, at Pine Grove Baptist Church cemetery in Bernice, La. with Eagan Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walton Hall, Jr. on Metairie, La. He was the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Walton Hall Sr. of Enid and the late Mr. and Mrs. Sam Patterson of Bernice, La.
