CHARLESTON - CHARLES WAYNE RIDEOUT, age 54, agent for American General Life Insurance in Batesville, died Thursday March 31, 1994, at Baptist Memorial Central Hospital in Memphis. born icon in Tallahatchie County, he was the son of Thomas Roy and Addie Lous Thomas Rideout. A graduate of East Tallahatchie Hig Schoolin 1958, he later became a member of the United States Army and National Guard. Rev. Tommy Whitsett, minister of Faith Baptist Church where he was a member, conducted services 10 a.m., Sunday, April 2, at the Charleston First Baptist Church, assisting was Neil Wrenn, Mrs.Kitty Newsom, organist and Mrs. Terri Whitsett, soloist, presented the sacred Music. Interment was in Magnolia Garden cemetery at Paynes with Womble Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Nancy Carol Shaw Rideout; one daughter, Mrs Karen Ann Brassfield of Cleveland; Two sons, Harold Wayne Rideout and Thomas Alan Rideout, both of Greenwood; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Rice of Charleston and Mrs Dessie Whitworth fo Clarksdale and one grandson. Pallbearers were Bobby Shaw, Donnie Shaw, Glenn Shaw, James Shaw, Marion Shaw, Russell Shaw, Talmadge Shaw, and V. J. Woodall. Family requests that any memorials be made to Faith Baptist Church.

ENID - BETTY SUE NORMAN, 52, waitress, died Saturday morning, April 2, 1994, in Tallahatchie General Hospital after a heart attack. Services were 2 p.m., Monday April 4, at Newsom Funeral Home in Charleston with burial in Bethel cemetery in Enid. She was a member of Church of Christ of Enid. The wife of George Norman, she also leaves a daughter, Sonja Michelle Nichols of Horn Lake; a son, Gary Lamar Norman of Memphis; four sisters, Linnie Beardin of French Camp, Ann Calbert of Little Rock, Virginia Murphree of Enid and Shirley Dubois of Oakland; two brothers, George Hodges of Southaven and Griffin Hodges of Enid; and a grandchild.

CHARLESTON - MARY CUNNINGHAM ARBUCKLE, age 86, retired LPN, died Saturday, April 9, 1994, at the Tallahatchie General Hospital. born icon in Tallahatchie County, she was the daughter of William Montgomery and Sarah Winn Gurley Cunningham. Dr. Phil Gerber, minister of Charleston First United Methodist Church where she was a member, conducted services 2 p.m., Monday, April 11, at the Womble Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Louanne Cossar, organist and soloist, presented the sacred music. Interment was in Union cemetery at Tillatoba. Mrs Arbuckle was preceded in death by her husband James Frank "Jim" Arbuckle and on daughter Miss Gwendolyne Arbuckle. She is surived by one brother Veldon M. Cunningham of Greenville. Pallbearers were Jim Bonner, L.C. Clark, Bill Crawford, G.L. Cunningham, Preston Perkins. Family requests any memorials to be sent to Tallahatchie Extended Care Facility or Charleston First United Methodist Church or Union cemetery Fund.

CHARLESTON - LLOYD BENFORD BEAIRD, age 73, a retired Air Force master sergeant after 20 years, died Friday, April 8, 1994, at the Tallahatchie General hospital, born icon in Tallahatchie County. He was the son of Joe Percy and Roena Lillian Hall Beaird. He was a World War II veteran. Rev. Rex Wilburn conducted services 2 p.m., Sunday, April 10, at the Bethel United Methodist Church where he was a member. Assisting was Rev. Bud Lewellen. Mrs. Brenda Brasher, Pianist, and choir presented the sacred music. Interment was in the Bethel cemetery with Womble Funeral Home handling the arrangements .Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ethel Owens Arendale Beaird, two stepdaughters, Mrs. Nadine Cooper of Memphis and Mrs. Barbara Workman of Alexander, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Marie King of Memphis and Mrs. Gladys Lewellan of Enid; 5 grandchildren. Pallbearers were Michael Griggs, William Hickey, Griffin Hodges, Buddy Kiihnl, David Reed and Henry Reed. Family requests any memorials be sent to Bethel United Methodist Church cemetery Fund.

CHARLESTON - ANNA BELLE BROWN, 90, of Mesquite Texas, formerly of Charleston, homemaker, died Tuesday April 5, 1994, of apparent heart failure in Dallas. Services were 2 p.m. Friday, April 8, at Paynes Baptist Church, where she was a member, with burial in Magnolia Gardens cemetery. Newsom Funeral Home has charge. Mrs. Brown, the widow of Clyde Brown, leaves two daughter, Marjorie Staten of Mesquite, and Nina Townes of Nashville; a son Benford Brown of Charleston; two sisters, Maude Groves of Houston, Texas, and Mamie Lay Faulkner of Batesville, 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.

CHARLESTON - MARTHA MAE PRESSGROVE, 77, homemaker, died of heart failure, Friday, April 8, 1994, at the Tallahatchie General Hospital. Services were 2 p.m., Monday April 11, at Newsom Funeral Home with burial in Magnolia Gardens cemetery. She was a member of the Adams Arbor Church of God of Prophecy. Mrs Pressgrove, the wife of L.B. Pressgrove, also leaves a son Anthony Wayne Pressgrove of San Manteo, Calif.; a sister, Ruby Strickland of New Mexico, and two grandchildren.

CHARLESTON - FORREST ROLAND TYLER, age 77, retired shipping clerk for Metro Glass in Dalton, Ill., died Sunday, April 17, 1994, at the Grenada Lake Medical Center. A World War II Army veteran, he was born icon July 23, 1916, at Taylor, Miss. to Ben and Eula Tibatha Goodnight Tyler. Rev. Danny Jackson, minister of Stonefield Church of God, where he was a member, conducted services 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 19, at the Womble Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs Donna Ross, organist, and the Faith Singer provided the sacred music. Interment was in the Stonefield Church of God cemetery near Cascilla. He is survived by his former wife, Mrs. Verdie Jeanette Tyler of Grenada who cared for him. Pallbearers were his nephews.

CHARLESTON - NOBLE G. DEWBERRY, 58 of Howard Co., a native of Tallahatchie County, died April 8, 1994 at his home in Howard. The funeral was in Salida County on Sunday, April 10, with the Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home in charge. The body was the brought to Newsom Funeral Home in Charleston. A service was conducted Wednesday at 10a.m. with the Reverend Sherman Adams officiating. Burial was in the Adams Arbor Church cemetery. He was a career Air Force Veteran having retired after 20 years of service. He served all over the U.S., Europe, and the Far East including two tours of duty in Vietnam. After retiring from the Air Force, he established the American Drilling Company of Howard County. he ws involved in Civic Activities and local government, having served for 8 years on the Colorado School District (RE-3) Board of Education. He is survived by his wife, Barbara F. Dewberry of Howard, a daughter; Gay Dewberry of Tucson, Ariz.' two sons, Bradford (Bo) Dewberry of Howard and Christopher Dewberry of Denver, Col.; one sister, Gertrude Cook of Scobey and one brother, A. T. Dewberry of Grenada and two grandchildren.

WATER VALLEY - ROBERT WESTON WRIGHT, 84, mechanic of farm equipment, died of heart failure at Yalobusha County Hospital in Water Valley. Services were Thursday, April 14, 1994, at 2 p.m. at Browning Funeral Home Chapel in Water Valley with burial in Oak Hill cemetery. Rev. Steve Cannon officiated. He was a member of Oxford United Pentecostal Church. He is survived by his wife, Irene Wright; four sons, Gerrel Wright, Dan Wright, both of Water Valley, John L Wright of Walls and Dean Wright of Charleston; one sister, Annie Camp of Water valley and one brother, Talmadge Wright of Water Valley; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Randy Wright, Jonathan Wright, Paul McGehee, Shannon Wright and Paul Carroll.

CHARLESTON - MARJORIE LUCILLE WOLFE, 39, homemaker, died Friday, Aug. 5, 1994, of cancer at her mother's home. Services were 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, at the First Baptist Church in Charleston with burial in Magnolia Garden cemetery. Newsom Funeral home had charge of the arrangements. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church. Mrs. Wolfe, the wife of Ronald Wolfe of Gore Springs, also leaves two daughters, Christy Bell of Grenada and Renee Self of Greenwood; a son, Steve Savage and her parents, Lucille and Tom Barefoot, all of Charleston; three sisters, Diane Todd and Brenda Todd, both of Charleston, and Barbara Rodriquez of Fort Know, Ky.; a brother, James Downs of Charleston and five grandchildren.

CHARLESTON - THURMAN PAUL DENLEY, age 59, machine operator at Heatcraft, died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 1994, at the U.T. Bowld Medical Center in Memphis. Rev. Jerry Bingham and Rev. Silas Clements conducted services 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, at the Paynes Baptist Church. Sacred music was presented by Mrs. Janet Roberts, pianist and Mrs. Karen Fox. Mrs. Sandra Staten and Harlin Fox, vocalists. Interment was in Magnolia Garden cemetery conducted by Rev. Curtis Shelton and H.E. Shook. Womble Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. He was a member and deacon of Paynes Baptist Church and taught Sunday School there also. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Chessis "Polly" Smith Denley; one daughter, Miss Julia Mae Denley of Paynes; one son, Richard Paul Denley of Paynes; his mother, Annie Denley of Charleston; four sisters, Mrs. Earlene Aven of Batesville, Ms Aline Denley of Oakland, Mrs. Fay Aven of Cowart and Mrs. Nita Shaw
of Rockford, Ill., and one brother, Estel Lee 'Dill' Denley of Charleston. Pallbearers were Danny Campbell, Hayden Carpenter, Dan Shook, Edward Shook, Randy Staten, and Douglas Wolfe. The family requests any memorials be sent to Paynes Baptist Church building Fund.

CHARLESTON - ALLIE HOUSTON DICKEY, age 77, widow of Spencer Pryor Dickey, died Thursday, Aug. 18, 1994, at the Ruleville Health Care Center. She was a member of Walnut Grove Church of God opf Prophecy. Rev. Bobby Murphree and Rev. Shelly Scallions conducted services 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Womble Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs Ruby Adams, organist, and Rev. Shelly Scallions, a soloist, provided the sacred music. Interment was in Slaughter cemetery near Charleston. Womble Funeral Home had charge. She is survived by one son, Bobby Dickey of Hewitt, Texas and one brother, James Edwin Houston of Enid. Pallbearers were Dale Dorris, David Hargett, William Houston, Fred Moorman, Robbie Moorman, and M.P. Morgan. The family requests any memorials be sent to Walnut Grove Church of God of Prophecy.

CHARLESTON - EVELYN MILNE CRISWELL, AGE 74, retired case worker for the Tallahatchie County Welfare Department, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 1994, at the Tallahatchie General Hospital. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Magnolia garden Club. Rev. Jeff Sockwell conducted services 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at the First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Linda Allison, organist, and Mrs. Elaine Sayle pianist, provided the sacred music. Interment was in Bethel cemetery near Enid with Womble Funeral home in charge of arrangements. The widow of Vernon M. Criswell Jr., she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Carol Kirkland of Senatobia; one son, Vernon M. 'Chris' Criswell III of Independence; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Smith of McComb and Mrs. Anne Kornegay of Baton Rouge, La.; two brothers, Richard Milne of Jackson and Bruce Nilne of McComb and three grandchildren. Pallbearers wer Phil Criswell, Wayne Criswell, Kenneth Davis, Christy Finke, Lewis Hubbert, and Herman Kornegay. The family requests memorials to be sent to St. Jude Children Hospital in Memphis.

OAKLAND - CLYDE G. MASSEY, age 85, retired farmer, died Friday Aug. 26, 1994, at his home. A native of Oakland, he was a member of Oakland Church of Christ and for 24 years, he was president of Springhill Water Association. Wes Arabic conducted services 2 p.m., Sunday Aug. 28, at the Womble Funeral Home in Charleston. Congregational hymns were directed by wes Arabie. Interment was in the Oakland cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Trebia McKnight Massey; two daughters, Mrs. Martha Townsend of Grenada and Mrs. Clyde Callihan of Oakland; one sister, Mrs. Winnie Walker of Webb, 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were B.J. Bryson, Marty Langston, David Pendergrass, John Prewitt, Ray Roundaville and Troy Waldo.

CHARLESTON - WILLIAN RICHARD SANDERS, 71 of Gillett, Ark., retired consulting engineer, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 1994, of lung cancer at the Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, Ark. Graveside services were Friday, Aug. 26, in Gillett cemetery. Essex Funeral Home of DeWitt, Ark. had charge. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of American Legion Post 158. The husband of Marjorie Sanders, he also leaves a son, William Richard Sanders Jr. of Charleston; a stepdaughter, Pamela Peterson of Stuttgart, Ark.; a stepson, Billy Kirchoff of Gillett; two sisters, Mary Hyatt of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Margaret Hartmann of Jasper Ind., ; a brother Boak Sanders of Prattville, Ala. and two grandchildren.

SOUTHAVEN - LORENA F. SHEARIN, 73, retired customer service representative for Ely Walder, died of cancer Sunday, Aug. 7, 1994, at Baptist Memorial Hospital DeSoto in Southaven. services were Tuesday, Aug. 9, at Forest Hill Funeral Home South with burial in Forest Hill cemetery South. She was a member of Longstreet United Methodist Church in Memphis. Formerly of Charleston, she may be remembered as Lorena Ferguson McFerrin. Mrs. Shearin, the widow of Hal Shearin, leaves two daughters, Margie Lewis of Southaven and Linda Riley of Memphis, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family requests any memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society.

BATESVILLE - CHARLES EUGENE O'CONNER, 51, died Saturday, Aug. 13, 1994, at his residence. Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 15, at Moore Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Martin Case officiated and interment followed in Longtown cemetery. He was an iron worker for Fluor Construction Co. in Memphis. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Batesville. A former resident of Tallahatchie County, he was a former Deputy Sheriff of Tallahatchie County. He is survived by his wife, Faith Bankston O'Conner of Batesville; four sons, Chuck O'Conner of Clarksdale, Greg O'Conner, Brandon O'Conner and Waylon O'Conner, all of Batesville; his mother, Girtie Adams O'Conner; four sisters, Elizabeth Sanders and Girtie Sexton, both of Como, Merlene Fordon of Senatobia and Earlene Hill of Henderson, Tenn.; two brothers, Floyd O'Conner of Whithaven, Tenn. and Howard O'Conner of Pontotoc; and two grandsons.

SUMNER - LUCILLE CROWDER FLEMING, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 1994, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital. Mrs Fleming, born icon in Tallahatchie County in 1909, was a resident of Sumner for many years, where she worked in the home of Judge Joseph Albert May and later his daughter's family, the Adyn Schuylers. After moving to Tutwiler she remained active in church and community activities. She was renowned for her artistic quilts, some of which are in collections in New York and the Center for the Study of Southern Culture in Oxford. Services were held at Friarson Chapel, where she was a lifelong member, at Sumner on Sunday, Aug., 28, at 10 a.m. with burial following at the Old Antioch cemetery in Sumner. The Tutwiler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

CHARLESTON - BARRY NASH PARISH, age 79, died Friday, Aug. 19, 1994, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi in Oxford. A native of Charleston, he retired from the Postal Service after 31 years of service. He was a member of Charleston First United Methodist Church where he served as secretary for the men's Sunday School Class. Dr. Phil Gerber conducted services 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, at the Charleston First United Methodist Church. Sacred music was presented by Cindy Brougher, Louanne Cossar and Louise Fox. Interment was in the Charleston cemetery with Womble Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. A Navy World War II veteran, he was decorated with eleven battle stars while on the USS Yorktown Carrier. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mildred Carithers Parish; two daughters, Mrs. Dottie Seymore of Tutwiler and Mrs. Pam Tribble of Charleston; one son, tany Parish of Apachie Junction, Ariz. and 4 grandchildren. Pallbearers were Bill Ellard, Dan Luther Fedric, David Morgan, Avery Rowland, Dwight Shepherd and J.W. Turman.
