CHARLESTON - MARY LEE SIMPSON PITCHER, age 68, died Friday, June 17, 1994, at the Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in Clarksdale. born icon in Tutwiler, she was the daughter of William Thomas and Annie Love Sweatt Simpson. She was the widow of Gordon Francis Pitcher, who preceded her in death in 1990. Funeral mass was 10 a.m. Monday, June 20, at St. John's Catholic Church conducted by Father Peter Machesky. Mrs. Pitcher was a communicant at St John's. Interment was in the Charleston cemetery with Womble Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. She is survived by two sons, Gordon F. Pitcher, Jr. of Memphis and Martin Tracy Pitcher of Grenada; three sisters, Mrs. Zenia Martin of Charleston, Mrs. Annie Kate Williams of Mobile, Ala. and Mrs. Hedy Maude Champion fo Charleston, 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Mike Callendar, Robertson Dailey, Matt Pitcher, Chris Morris, Jimmy Morris and Billy Selby. The family requests any memorials be sent to the America Heart Association or the American Lung Association.

CASCILLA - JESSIE JAMES TOWNSEND, 35, employee of Roger Morris Bricklayer's Co., died Sunday, June 12, 1994, of a gunshot wound at his home. Services were 1 p.m., Saturday, June 25, at Roberts & Sons Mortuary in Winona with burial in Bethlehem Baptist cemetery near Kilmichael. The husband of Linda Townsend, he also leaves a son, Anthony Townsend of Cascilla; his mother, Edna Maude Jenkins of Kilmichael; his father, Walter Townsend of Arkansas; two sister, Annie Gorden of North Chicago, Ill., and Beatrice Easterwood of Milwaukee; two brothers, Everett Daniels of Milwaukee and Bernard 'B.J." Daniels of Kilmichael, and his grandmother, Maude W. Davidson of Kilmichael.

ENID - MURRY 'PETE' DORRIS, 77, rtired farmer, died Monday, June 20, 1994, of emphysema at his home. Services were 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 22 at Newsom Funeral Home of Charleston with graveside services at 3:30 p.m. in Broom cemetery near Coffeeville. The husband of Lura Dorris, he also leaves four daughters Delaney Robinson of Marion, Ill., Cherri Boyle of Byhalia, Lafaye House of Salt Lake City and Gwendolyn Russell of Olive Branch, three sons, Sale Dorris of Enid, Murry Dorris of San Marcos, Texas, and Jess Dorris of Vicksburg; a sister, Annis Wilkie of Winona; two brothers, Dalton Dorris of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Dossie Dorris of Calhoun City, 26 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

ENID - EVA L. DRAPER, 87, homemaker, died Thursday, June 30, 1994, of heart disease at her home. services were 1 p.m. Saturday, July 2, at Canaan Missionary Baptist Church in Batesville, where she was a member. with burial at Springhill cemetery in Pope. Cooley's Mortuary of Batesville had charge of arrangements. She was also a member of Order of the Eastern Star Queen Esther Chapter 18 in Batesville. Mrs Draper leaves two sisters, Priscilla Bradford of Batesville and Helen Hardwick of Chicago; a brother, Tom Lloyd of Chicago, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

CHARLESTON - KENNETH HALEY PETTIT, 71, of Lake Providence, La., formerly of Charleston, died Saturday, July 9, 1994, of heart failure at Cypress Manor Nursing Home in Lake Providence. Services were 10 a.m. tuesday, July 12, at Newsom Funeral home with burial in Magnolia cemetery. He was a World War II veteran. The husband of Lois Pettit, he also leaves a daughter, Laura Coker, and a son, Roger Pettit, both of Charleston; three sisters, Martha Kyle and Mary Ann Elliot both of Tillatoba and Carolyn Little of Cleveland; three brothers, William E. Pettit, Jr. and Graham B. Pettit, both of Jackson and Wayne Pettit of Maryland; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

SUMNER - MERIL LUTHER CANNON, 72, carpenter, died Sunday, July 3, 1994, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital in Greenwood. Services were Monday, July 4, at Pine Hill Presbyterian Church with Rev. Charlie Cornelius officiating. Burial was in Pine Hill Presbyterian cemetery in Oakland. The husband of Helen Ruth Cannon, he is also survived by one son Tom J Walters of Kaleen, Texas; three daughters, Mrs. Martha McCaslin of Springfield, Va. Mrs. Gayle Jennings of Taylorsville, Mrs. Ellen Debrow of Theodore, Ala.; two sisters, Mrs. Geneva Bethea of Daphne, Ala. and Mrs. Beth Holsonback of Spanish Fort, Ala.; 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

ENID - SAM 'BIG BOY' BLACKBURN, 71, maintenance worker for Panola Mills in Batesville, died Saturday, July 2, 1994, of heart disease at Methodist Hospital in Memphis. Services were 1 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at Mt Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Enid, Where he was a member, with burial in Flemings cemetery in Scobey, Cooley's Mortuary had charge. Blackburn, the husband of Dartha wren Blackburn, also leaves eight daughters, Christine Johnson of Batesville, Minnie Ray, Norma Faye Blackburn, Betty Blackburn, Odester Blackburn, Bobbie Shegog, Gloria Blackburn and Phylisteen Leonard, all of Enid; five sons, Sam Blackburn, Jr., Edward Ray Blackburn and Ben Blackburn Jr., all of Chicago, and Joel blackburn and Michael Blackburn, both of Enid; nine sisters, Annie M. Jonsoh and Gentra Lighting, both of Batesville, Emma Curtis of Charleston, Martha Williams and Dora Johnson, both of Chicago, Willie M .Small, Flossie Cox and Male Robinson, all of Los Angeles, and Minnie Bell King of Detriot; seven brothers, Patrick Cox, Travis Blackburn, Billy Blackburn, and Tommie Lee Blackburn, all of Chicago, Cornelius Blackburn and Noble Hayes Blackburn, both of Batesville, and Jim Nelson of Rockford, Ill., 37 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

ELAINE, AR - JOHNNY 'JOHN' GILBERT WRIGHT, 69, died Friday, July 1, 1994, of natural causes at Helena Regional Medical Center, Helena Ark. He was a U.S.Navy veteran, retired farmer and carpenter, who had lived in Elaine since 1957. Services were held 4 p.m. Saturday, July 2, at Roller-Citizens Chapel. Officiating was Rev. Mike Fowler. Burial was held in Sunset Memorial Park in Barton Ark. He leaves his wife, Rachel Edgin Wright, two sons, John 'Johnny' Richard Wright and Terry Lynn Wright, both of Elaine, Ark. 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

ENID - BRADY HOWE, 75, retired security guard, died Saturday, July 23, 1994, of heart failure at Memphis Veterans Medical Center. Services were 2 p.m. Monday July 25, at Dickins Funeral Home in Batesville with burial in Bethel cemetery near Enid. He was a World War II Army Air Force veteran and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He leaves a sister, Madie Darby of Enid.

CHARLESTON - JOHNNIE CARPENTER LINDSEY, age 92, widow of Guy Herbert Lindsey, died Wednesday, July 27, 1994, at the Tallahatchie General Hospital, She was a member of Charleston First Baptist Church. Rev. Joe Sweat conducted services 2 p.m. Friday, July 29, at the Womble Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs Ruby Adams provided the sacred music. Interment was in the Charleston cemetery. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Nadine Kenwright of Greenwood and Mrs. Evelyn Blair of Hernando, 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son George Ross, Jr. Pallbearers were Mark Davis, Chuck Jackson, James Kenwright, Jay Sweat, Perry Wells and Wesley Wells.

CASCILLA - JESSIE A. BROWN, 87, homemaker, died of heart failure, Tuesday, July 26, 1994, at Grenada Lake Medical Center in Grenada. Services were Thursday, July 28, at Cascilla Baptist Church where she was a member, with burial in Charleston cemetery. Newsom Funeral Home had charge of arrangements. Mrs. Brown, the widow of Pate Brown, leaves a daughter, Janice Lane of Nashville; a son, Pate Brown, Jr. of Cascilla; a sister, Mildred Dunn of Lake Wales, Fla.; two brothers, Vernon Allison of San Antonio, Texas, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

CHARLESTON - EVA FLOYD KENDALL, age 51, nurses' assistant at the Tallahatchie General Hospital Extended Care Facility, died Thursday, Sept. 1, 1994, at her home. A native of Indiana, she attended Paducah Wells Church of God of Prophecy. Rev. Shelly Scallions and Rev. C.H. Newcomb conducted services 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 2, at the womble Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Sis Dahl, pianist and Rev. Shelly Scallions, soloist, provided the sacred music. Interment was in North Shady Grove cemetery near Cascilla. She is survived by her husband, William Henry 'Buddy' Kendall Jr.; two daughters, Mrs. Tiffany Jennings of Elliott and Miss Kimberly Joy Kendall of Charleston; her parents, Vollie P. and Dorothy Floyd of Mountain Home, Ark. and one grandchild. Pallbearers were Buddy Dahl, Ronnie Dahl, Curtis Denley, Carson Little, Jr. Roger Morris and Mike Stevens.

CHARLESTON - WILLIAM J. AMMONS, JR., 47, teacher, died Friday, Sept. 9, 1994, of heart disease ft Northwest Mississippi Medical Center in Clarksdale. Services were 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Newsom Funeral Home with burial in Charleston cemetery. He leaves a sister, Pat Ammons of Clarksdale.

TUNICA - BERNICE VANCE WILLIAMS, 90, homemaker, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 1994, of heart failure at Senatobia Community Hospital. Services were 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at graveside in Erin cemetery near Union. Nowell Memorial Funeral Home had charge. She was a member of Webb Baptist Church and a member of Eastern Star. The wife of the late Benjamin Clay Williams, she is survived by three daughters, Mary Williams Hammel of Kansas City Mo., Joan Williams hill of Webb and Frances Allen of Houston, Texas; three sons, Benjamin F. Williams fo Memphis, John Williams of Houston and Bobby E. Williams of Tunica; one sister, Nell Perkins of Newton, 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Al Tapper, Gene Williams, Leo Hill, Vance Hill, David Hammel, George Williams, Keneth Allen, Chuck Bolen and Michael Young.

CHARLESTON - WILLIAM CLAYTON LOGAN, age 85, retired farmer, died Friday, Sept. 16, 1994, at the Greenwood Leflore Hospital. Rev. Shelley Scallions conducted services 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept 17, at the Womble Funeral Home Chapel. Yvonne James and Roy Goodwin, pianist, and Sis Dahl and Rev. Shelley Scallions, soloist, provided the sacred music. Interment was in Corinth cemetery near Charleston. Survivors include one daughter, Wanda Smith of Charleston; one son, William Lynn Logan of Whithaven; two sisters, Thelma Neal and Effie Carpenter of Charleston and three grandsons. Pallbearers were Mike Carpenter, Buddy Dahl, Curtis Denley, Roy Goodwin, Alton Holland and Mike Stevens.

OAKLAND - EULA DORRIS PRIDDY, age 88, homemaker, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 1994, at the Red Bay Nursing Home in Red Bay, Ala. of cardiopulmonary arrest. born icon in Yalobusha County, Miss., she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Spencer Priddy; and later William Frank Priddy. Also preceding her was one son, William Spencer Priddy, Jr. Mrs. Priddy, a member of Springhill baptist Church, was also a member of the Women's Missionary Union. For about 60 years she was a member of the Springhill Homemakers Club. Rev. Bill Cox and Rev. Jack Maroon conducted services 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Springhill Baptist Church, Mrs Ramona Brewer Rodgers, pianist, and Rev. Maroon, soloist, presented the sacred music. Interment was in the Springhill cemetery with Womble Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Rodney Hayes, David Hipp, Jimmy Hipp, Jr., Steven Hipp, David Lennox, Scotty McKay, Spencer Priddy, III, Tommy Ross.

TUTWILER - GRACE PAULINE 'POLLY' PITTS, 74, homemaker, died of heart failure Friday, Dec. 16, 1994, at home. Services were 1:30 p.m. Sunday Dec. 18, at Tutwiler Baptist Church with burial in Oak Hill cemetery in Pontotoc. Mrs Pitts, a native of Tallahatchie County, was a graduate of Sumner High School. Survivors include; sons, Jerry W. Beck of Greenwood, Richard K Pitts of Jackson, and Milton R. Pitts of Clarksdale; sister, Addie Breland of Boyce, La. and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

OAKLAND - CLYDE M. ADAMS, 78, retired farmer, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 1994, of heart disease at his home. Services were 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. at Newsom Funeral Home in Charleston with burial in Charleston cemetery, with Clay Baker, pastor of Oak Grove officiating. He was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. where he was Sunday School Superintendent and teacher. He was a former member of FHA County Commission and a former member of the ASCS County Commissions. The husband of Ruby Green Adams, he also leaves a son, Clyde R.'Bobby' Adams of Starkville; two brothers, Paul Adams of Oaklsnd and John Helm Adams of Little Rock, a grandchild and two great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Morris Payne Morgan, Lamar Howell, Joe Monday, Roger Jones, Terry Cole, and Billy Adams.

CHARLESTON - LOUISE NEWKIRK DENMAN, age 92, widow of Daniel Webster Denman, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 1994, at the Tallahatchie Extended Care Facility. Rev. Jerry Bingham and Dr. Phil Gerber conducted services 10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 23, at the Womble Funeral Home chapel. Mrs. Sandra Hardy, organist, provided the sacred music. Interment was in the Charleston cemetery. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by two daughter, Mrs Joyce Denman Rowland and Mrs June Denman Fox both of Charleston; one son, Dan Denman Jr. of Stroudsburg, Penn., one sister, Mrs. Grace Newkirk Trusty of Memphis, 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Pallbearers were Clay Denman, Chip Denman, Harlin Fox Jr, Abbott Myers, Rick Robertson, Tom Robertson, Bob Rowland, Dave Rowland and Ike Sayle.

CHARLESTON - L.E. FILLYAW DAHL, age 86, widow of Calvin Dahl, Sr., died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 1994, of heart failure at her home. Rev. J.G. Thomas and Rev. Shelly Scallions conducted services 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 23, at Womble Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Louanne Cossar, organist, and soloist, presented the sacred music. Interment was in Bethel cemetery near Enid. She is survived by four daughter, Mrs. Velma Goad of Charleston, Mrs. Elizabeth Thurman of Grenville, Mrs. Shirley Grier of Fayetteville, Ga. and Mrs. Sheila Jackson of Tillatoba; two sons, Calvin Dahl, Jr. of Charleston, Bobby Dahl of Charleston; two sisters, Mrs Molly White of Enid and Mrs Rosie Goad of Courtland; 27 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Twol sons preceded her in death John Dahl and Otey Dahl. Pallbearers were Derrick Dahl, Otey Neal Dahl, Randy Dahl, Ronnie Dahl, Calvin Goad, Donnie Goad, Mike Goad, Henry Jackson, Benjie Thurman, Roger Thurman and Steve Thurman.

SUMNER - ANITA SHAMA LEE HURD, 31, died of liver failure Wednesday, Dec. 21, 1994, at Greenwood-Leflore Hospital. Services were 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24, at Mt Carmel baptist Church, where she was a member, with burial in the Old Antioch Baptist Church cemetery. M.J. Edwards and Sons Funeral Home Coffeeville Chapel had charge. Mrs. Hurd, the wife of Jimmie Hurd, also leaves her mother, Essie L. Lee of Sumner, her father, James Lee, Jr. of Tuhula; eight sisters, Shirley Conrad of Chicago, Tara Lee, Moncia Lee, Antrion Lee, Keyota Banks, Pertice Lee, Sandra Lee and Chandra Lee, all of Webb; eight brothers, Larry Williams of Chicago, London Lee of Augusta, Ga., James Lee of Atlanta, Edward Lee of Clarksdale, Kenneth Lee, Mark Lee, all of Webb and Harvey Smith of Glendora, and a grandmother Janie Williams of Webb.

CHARLESTON - LOUISE 'LOU' RICHMOND, 77, died Monday, Dec. 19, 1994, at the Charleston Clinic. Ms. Richmond was retired from private duty. She was a member of Baptist Little Missionary Baptist Church. Services were Friday, Dec. 23, with Rev. J.H. Gibson officiating, burial was in Little Hubbard cemetery. She is survived by two sons, George A Morgan fo Charleston, and John Harold Morgan of Memphis; and two daughters, Elizabeth Flowers of Bay City, Mich., and Mary Louise Date of Memphis; and two sister, Nina Waters of Memphis and Ida Bell Isome of Oxford. Clark Funeral Home had charge.
