Mrs. Gladys Evelyn Hackler

Gladys Evelyn Hackler, 82, of Mena, Ark., died Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at her home.

Services for Mrs. Hackler were October 2, 2010, at Bear Creek Baptist Church with Bros. Greg Chamblee, Chet Ferguson, and Mark Mayo officiating. Burial followed in Bear Creek cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Edward Hackler of McCool, Miss.; son, Danny Hackler of McCool; daughter, Theresa Kelley of McCool; three grandchildren, Evelyn Pender, Liz Odom, and Emily Kelley; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers included Charles Pender, Ronnie Johnson, Tommy Pender, Erik Cagle Nathan Duggar, and Tony Spears.

Wilcox Funeral Home in Carthage, Miss., was in charge of the arrangements.

Martha Cutts Phillips, July 15, 1940 - July 21, 2010, A Memorial service for Martha Cutts Phillips will be held October 23, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. in Gulfport, Mississippi. Rieman Family Funeral Home of Gulfport, Mississippi is in charge of services.

Mr. Russell Ovette Hall

Mr. Russell Ovette Hall, 79, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2010 at Rush Foundation Hospital. His funeral will be held at John E. Stephens Chapel in Philadelphia at 1 P.M. Monday, October 4, 2010 burial followed in Galloway Family cemetery in the House Community where he lived most of his life. Rev. Richard Burks and Rev. John Stephens officiated

He was a U. S. Navy Veteran and a truck driver. He worked many years hauling milk, logs and sweet potatoes. Mr. Hall was an avid fisherman. He was a member of Pentecostal Apostolic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Hall of Philadelphia; one daughter, Ginger H. Brooks of Philadelphia; one son, Rusty Hall of Philadelphia; one sister, Betty Woods of Philadelphia; three brothers; Anderson Hall, Bobby Hall both of Philadelphia and Mike Hall of Columbia, MS.; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Pauline Carter Lewis

Mrs. Pauline Carter Lewis, 79, passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at Monfort Jones Memorial Hospital in Kosciusko. Her funeral was held at Mt. Calvary M. B. Church at 1 P.M. Sunday, October 3, 2010 burial followed in the Church cemetery. Rev. E. C. Pittman was the officiating minister.

She was a member of Mt. Calvary M. B. Church and a retired homemaker.

She is survived by six sons; Prentiss Woods, of Hattiesburg, MS.; John Lewis of Louisville, Lee Lewis, Fredrick Lewis, Leon Lewis and Bobby Lewis all of Kosciusko; two sisters, Margaret Daniels of Miami, FL.; Estes Fulwiley of Chicago, IL; nine grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews

Mrs. Lillie Mae (Cox) Lyons

Mrs. Lillie Mae (Cox) Lyons, 99, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at Neshoba County Nursing Home in Philadelphia. Her funeral was held at Mt. Ary M. B. Church at 1 P.M. Saturday, October 2, 2010 burial following in the Church cemetery near Philadelphia, MS. Rev. Bennie J. Hopkins, Sr. was the officiating minister.

She was a member of Mt. Ary M. B. Church and a Sunday School teacher. A member of the Home Mission Society, and served as Secterary to the Mt. Olive District Home and Mission.

She is survived by five sons; Marshall Lyons of Flint MI., Melvin, Jessie and Andy Lyons all of Philadelphia, MS.; twenty grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Mr. Robert Dwight Rucker

Robert Dwight Rucker, 43, passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at his home in Louisville, MS. His funeral was held at Beck Funeral Home in Louisville at 2 P.M. Saturday, October 2, 2010 burial following in the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Louisville. Rev. Robert E. Sangster, Sr. was the officiating minister.

He was a laborer.

He is survived by his mother Aldean Ivy; one son. Willis Smith of Louisville; two sisters, Patricia Hamilton of Humble Tx., and Marilyn Rucker of Houston, Tx; and one brother William Rucker, Jr. of Louisville; also aunts, uncles, nieces nephews and other relatives and friends

Mr. Johnny L. Cooper

Johnny L. Cooper, age 61, of Ashville, AL, passed away September 22, 2010.

He was formerly of Meridian, MS and York, AL. He was a veteran of the US Army, and was laid to rest at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East in Trussville, AL.

He is survived by his wife Linda Williamson Cooper; daughter Lori Cooper Donellan; 4 grandchildren; mother Charlene Cooper of York, AL; sister Sandra Smith of Cuba, AL; and extended Williamson family of Louisville, MS and surrounding areas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Johnny L. Cooper Memorial Fund. Please send checks to Hometown Bank, 6480 Hwy. 79, Pinson, AL 35216. (Acct. # 1611771) Proceeds will be used to offset funeral cost and to donate to pancreatic cancer research.

Mr. Demetrius Smoot

Funeral services for Mr. Demetrius Smoot, 25, were held at 1 pm September 28, 2010 at Brown Ridge M.B. Church. Reverend James T. Steele officiated. Burial followed in Depot Hill cemetery.

Mr. Smoot was a member of Brown Ridge M.B. Church in Dekalb, MS. Mr. Smoot died September 23, 2010 in Dekalb.

Survivors include father Johnny Butler, mother Sandra Smoot, sisters Tamekia Butler and Pamela Corbin, brothers Jermaine Smoot, Devontae Drummond, and Dennis Griffin, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

Hampton F. H. of Dekalb was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Faye Ellen Phillips

Mrs. Faye Ellen Phillips of Eupora, 58, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, TN.

Mrs. Phillips was born icon February 10, 1952 in Louisiana, She is survived by her children, Bobby Tumey of Meridian, MS, and Tonya Huffman of Eupora, MS. She also survived by six grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at Wise Funeral Home in Eupora. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Wise Funeral Home in Eupora, MS with Bro. Billy Trull officiating.

Burial will follow at North Union cemetery. Pallbearers include Frank Britt, Joel Britt, Drew Britt, Scott Britt, Marvin Huffman, and Tyler Huffman.

Wise Funeral Home in Eupora is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jennie L. Curtis

July 8, 2010

Funeral services for Mrs. Jennie L. Curtis, 86, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday July 11 at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman. Rev. Bill Taylor and Rev. Bryan Carrubba officiated. Burial followed in French Camp cemetery in French Camp.

A native of Port Gibson, MS, Mrs. Cutis was a seamstress.

Survivors include daughters Lynda Sue Curtis of Starkville, Barbara Langford of Winterhaven, FL, and Cindy C. Moore of Meridian, 3 grandchildren, and 2 great grand children.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and/or French Camp Academy.

Mr. Hubert Wade Wolf

July 10, 2010

Mr. Hubert Wade Wolf, 56, of Starkville, passed away at his residence on July 10.

Visitation for Mr. Wolf was held Sunday, July 11, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville. A funeral service was held on Monday, July 12, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Tim Buchanan. Burial followed in Craig Springs cemetery.

Mr. Wolf was a member of the Sturgis FFA and owner of Wade Wolf Construction Company.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Howell Wolf of Starkville; daughter, Michelle Wolf of Starkville; and parents, Ray and Willard Wolf of Starkville.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org, or Charity of Choice.

Mr. Athel Louis Etzkorn

Funeral services for Mr. Athel Louis Etzkorn, 81, will be held at a later date.

Mr. Etzkorn was a retired farmer. Mr. Etzkorn died Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at his residence in Louisville.

Survivors include wife Ruby Etzkorn, daughters Toni Eaves, Karen McCaffree, Miki Sims, and Sarah Gilliland, and 9 grandchildren.

Memorials may be made out to St. Jude's. Nowell-Massey Funeral Home of Louisville was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lillie Gales Campbell

July 2, 2010

Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie Gales Campbell, 76, were held at 2 p.m. July 11 at Warren Chapel Church of God in Christ. Supt. Marcus Smith officiated. Burial followed in Mt. Pisgah cemetery in Preston, MS.

A native of Louisville, Mrs. Campbell was a homemaker.

Mrs. Campbell died Friday July 2, 2010 at Winston County Nursing Home.

Survivors include daughters Lillie Ruth Claiborne and Margaret Gale, both of Davenport, IA., Annie Pearl Gale of Minneapolis, MN, and Katherine McGraw of Preston, MS., sons Henry Earl Gale and Howard Gale, both of Preston, MS, Joseph Patty, William Patty, and Raylee Patty, all of Louisville, MS, sisters Carrie Bee Chamberlin and Mae Love Gale, both of Davenport, IA, and Lillie Mae Gales of Philadelphia, MS, brothers Howard Gales of Minneapolis, MN, Oliver and David Gales, both of Davenport, IA., 32 grandchildren, 65 great grandchildren, 27 great-great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives.

Funeral services for Mr. James Earl Henley, 66, were held at 3 p.m. July 11 at the Chapel of Williams, Herring and Hampton Funeral Home. Dr. B.M. Pittman officiated. Burial followed at Memorial Garden cemetery.

A native of Noxubee County, Mr. Henley was a Landscape Developer. He was also a member of Mt. Moriah M. B. C. Church.

Mr. Henley died Thursday July 1, 2010 at his home in Hattiesburg, MS.

Survivors include father Walter Henley and mother Tiller Henley of Louisville, sons Dennis Goss and Marvin Henley, both of Louisville, sisters Beatrice Hamilton of Delmar, MD, Pearlie Bates of Washington D.C., Ethel Henley Love of Chicago, IL, Emma Hannah and Carolyn Matthews, both of Louisville, brothers Willie Henley of Gautier, MS, Jimmy Henley, Howard Henley, and Billy Henley, all of Louisville, Jessie Henley of Denver, CO, and Eddie Henley of Oxford, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Mr. Harold Charles Powe

June 29, 2010

Funeral services for Mr. Harold Charles Powe, 66, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday July 10 at New Hope U.M. Church of DeKalb, MS.

Elder Ever J. Burt officiated.

Burial followed at the church cemetery.

A native of DeKalb, Mr. Powe was retired from General Motors.

Mr. Powe died Tuesday June 29 in Flint, MI.

Survivors include daughters Tarrence R. Butler of Grand Blanc, MI, Lisa Powe of Auburn Hills, MI, sons Kenneth W. Butler of Louisville, KY, Frank Powe of Jackson, Earnest Powe of Laurel, Emanuel Powe Jr. of DeKalb, and Emmitt Powe of Jackson.
