Graveside services were held Monday, May 16, 2005, at Forest Hill Cemetery Midtown in Memphis. Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven has charge. She was a Baptist. Mrs. Heitman, the widow of Charles Heitman, leaves a daughter, Rita Rickman of Walls, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto Palliative Care.

Hirsch
HIRSCH, ANNIE L., 73, homemaker and bus aide for DeSoto County Transportation Department, died Friday, May 13, 2005, at her home. Memorial services were held Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at Getwell Road United Methodist Church in Southaven, where she attended. Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven has charge. Mrs. Hirsch, the widow of Robert B. Hirsch, leaves a daughter, Sandra G. Rumball-Eckloff of Horn Lake; three sons, Robert S. Hirsch Jr. of Horn Lake, Harry B. Hirsch of Clovis, Calif., and David Hirsch of Salem, Ore.; three sisters, Arlean Grosso of Tennessee, and Georgia Stewart and Wanda Kelley, both of Mississippi; four brothers, Harold Mascroft of Tennessee, Junior Mascroft of Missouri, Ronald Mascroft of Mississippi and Billy Mascroft of Idaho, and eight grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Getwell Road United Methodist Church.

Jenkins
JENKINS, HOWARD LAWSON, 56, electrical engineer for Thyssen Krupp Elevator, died Sunday, May 8, 2005, at his home. Memorial services were held Saturday, May 14, 2005, at Leaclair Church in Memphis, where he was a member. Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven has charge. He was an Air Force veteran. Mr. Jenkins, the husband of Judy Dianne Jenkins for 17 years, also leaves two daughters, Laurie Ann Jenkins and Paula D. Rury, both of Memphis; three sons, Howard Robert Jenkins of Memphis, Stephen R. Gunter of Ashland and Edward Kelly Gunter of Reno, Nev.; his mother, Mary C. Jenkins of Memphis; two brothers, Dewey L. Jenkins of Bartlett and Troy Jenkins of Memphis, six grandchildren and a great-grandchild. The family requests that any memorials be sent to University of Tennessee cancer research or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Johnson
JOHNSON, MERLE F., 77, of Memphis, retired service station attendant, died Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at Methodist Extended Care. Services were held Saturday, May 14, 2005, at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch with burial in Memorial Park. He was an Army veteran. He leaves four sisters, Maxine Johnson Cates and Bonnie Johnson Beasley, both of Memphis, Betty Johnson Nickleman of Olive Branch and Helen Johnson Magee of Byhalia, Miss., and a brother, Donald W. Johnson of Memphis.

Lucas
LUCAS, DAN, 54, superintendent for Montgomery Martin Contractors, died Friday, May 13, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. Services were held Monday, May 16, 2005, at Forest Hill Funeral Home South with burial in Forest Hill Cemetery South. He was a Navy veteran and a member of Parkway Village Baptist Church. Mr. Lucas, the husband of Brenda Lucas, also leaves his mother, Marine Johnson of Memphis, and a sister, Judy Sutton of Cordova. The family requests that any memorials be sent to the American Lung Association of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

McCallister
MCALLISTER, RUTH EVELYN, 73, homemaker, died Friday, May 13, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto. Services were held Monday, May 16, 2005, at Memphis Funeral Home Germantown Parkway Chapel with burial in Memory Hill Gardens. Mrs. McAllister, the wife of Charles McAllister, also leaves a daughter, Karen McAllister of Olive Branch; a son, Curt McAllister of Southaven; her stepmother, Lena Wright of Roswell, N.M.; a sister, Sharon Price of Capitan, N.M., and five brothers, Jack Wright of Odessa, Texas, Lee Wright of Byhalia, David Wright of Cleburne, Texas, and Butch Wright and Timmy Wright, both of Roswell.

Mills
MILLS, CORA BERNICE, 88, homemaker, died Saturday, May 14, 2005, at Trinity Missions of Greater Oaks in Byhalia. Services were held Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at Forest Hill Funeral Home South in Memphis with burial in Forest Hill Cemetery South there. She was a member of Minor United Methodist Church. Mrs. Mills, the widow of Lamar Mills, leaves a daughter, Gail M. Ellis of Hernando; a son, Richard L. Mills of Bartlett; a sister, Florence Crippen of Memphis, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Nesbitt
NESBITT, ANNIE BELL, 67, homemaker, died Friday, May 6, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Antioch Church Two with burial in the church cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home has charge. Mrs. Nesbitt, the wife of Ezell Nesbitt, also leaves a sister, Beatrice Wooday of Coldwater, and two grandchildren.

Pickens
PICKENS, RUTH K., 82, retired school teacher from Horn Lake High, died Friday, May 13, 2005, at her home in Nesbit. Services were held Monday, May 16, 2005, at Forest Hill South Chapel, who had charge, with burial at Forest Hill South Cemetery. She was a Math major and graduate from Blue Mountain College. She was a member of Carrige Hills Baptist Church, where she also taught Sunday school for 50 years. She was a secretary for TN State Commander Ex-Pow's and traveled the US. She leaves her husband, Olin R. Pickens of Nesbit; her two sons, Larry K. Pickens of Memphis and David P. Pickens of Hendersonville, TN; her brother, Jimmy Kent of New Hope, AL, and three grandchildren. Memorials may be donated to the American Cancer Society.

Sutherland
SUTHERLAND, VIRGINIA HUMPHRIES, 82, retired bookkeeper for Ely Walker Co., died Monday, May 9, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis. Services were held Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at Twin Oaks Funeral Home with burial in Memphis Memory Gardens. She was a member of Cherry Road Baptist Church in Memphis. Mrs. Sutherland, the widow of Jack Sutherland, leaves three daughters, Beverly Ann Shelton of Roswell, Ga., Jane Akins of Olive Branch and Jean S. Reed of Nesbit, nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

BENTON, JOHNNIE R., 73, retired, farmer, died Sunday, July 24, 2005 at Baptist Hospital Desoto. Services were held Saturday, July 30, 2005, at Taylor Chapel AME Church in Victoria, MS with burial at Tunstall Cemetery in Byhalia. Gillespie Funeral Home has charge. He leaves 1 sister Vira Lee Coleman of St. Louis, MO., 1 brother, Preston Benton of Memphis.

Creswell
CRESWELL, RICHARD EUGENE, 68, died Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at Beverly Health Care in Southaven. He retired as a printer for The Commercial Appeal after 39 years. He was a member of Glenn's Chapel Methodist Church in DeSoto County. He is survived by his wife, Melba; a daughter, Elizabeth Cogburn of Benton, AR; a son, David Creswell of Piperton, TN; a brother, Billy Creswell of Memphis, and three grandchildren. Services were held Friday, July 29, 2005 at Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis. The family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Dale
DALE, ELEONORE M., 70, of Coldwater, MS died at home Friday, July 29, 2005, of heart failure. A memorial service will be at a later date. Brantley Funeral Home has charge. She was a Baptist. She leaves her husband, Warren A. Dale of Coldwater, MS, 2 sons, Richard Dale of Hernando, and Allan Dale of West Minster, MD; 8 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.

Evans
EVANS, EDITH S. GARNHAM, 93, retired florist, of Olive Branch died on Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at her home. Services were held Saturday, July 30, 2005 at Holy Cross Episcopal Church, where she was a communicant with burial at Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye, New York. Brantley Funeral Home had charge. Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by her husbands, George D. Garnham and Arthur C. Evans. She is survived by one daughter, Geraldine McDonnell of Olive Branch; one stepson, Arthur Evans of San Antonio, TX; 4 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. The family requests any memorials be made to Holy Cross Episcopal, Olive Branch, MS or Desoto County Literacy Council, Olive Branch, MS.

FREE, CAROLYN FAY, 55, of Byhalia, died Monday, July 25, 2005 at Methodist Hospital Germantown. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 28, 2005 at First Baptist Church of Collierville with burial at Magnolia Cemetery of Collierville. She was an employee of From The Heart Florist of Collierville, a member of Collierville Baptist Church where she was a member of the Sweet Memory Choir and the Celebration Choir. Mrs. Free was survived by her husband, Mr. Charles Free of the home; one son, Mitchell Wayne Free of Byhalia; one daughter, Sandra Marie Marcum of Byhalia; 2 sisters, Sharon Rickman of Dickson, TN, Judith Sandusky of Lexington, TN; 4 brothers, Richard Cox of Denver, CO, Lindsey Cox of Bernie, MO, Patrick Cox of Franklin, TN, and Brian Cox of Dickson, TN; mother, Betty Cox of Dickson, TN; 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her father, S.O. Cox and a brother, Monty Cox.

HALL, BRENDA KAY NELSON, 58, of Monroe, LA, died Wednesday, July 27, 2005, at her home. She was retired from Ford Motor Company and a member of Lea Joyner United Methodist Church in Monroe. Services were held Saturday, July 30, 2005, at Brantley Funeral Home, who had charge, with burial at Lebanon Cemetery. She leaves her daughter, Kimberly K. Hall of Ohio, her two sisters, Sandra Chamberlin and Linda Nelson, her niece, Stormy Chamberlin, all of Monroe, her two nephews, Chuck Chamberlin of Monroe and Jimmy Hinchey of Tampa, FL, her aunt, Pauline Dodson of Memphis, and four grandchildren.

Hawks
HAWKS, MARY EARLE SEALY, 76, retired supervisor for William Carter Company, passed away Monday, July 25, 2005. Services were held Wednesday, July 27, 2005, at Pate-Jones Funeral Home with burial in Magnolia Cemetery. Mrs. Hawks, the widow of Thomas M. Hawks, leaves a daughter, Juanita Hawks Walden of Coldwater; a son, John T. Hawks of Senatobia; two sisters, Ava Ruth Boyette of Tupelo and June Moore of Coldwater, six grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
