BRISTER - James W. Brister Sr., 82, Olive Branch, passed away Aug. 12, 2008, at Methodist LeBonheur Germantown Hospital. Services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16 at Forest Hill South with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 15. Burial, Memphis Memory Gardens. Air Force Veteran, owner of Brister Brothers Amoco in Memphis, owner of Belmont Auto Sales, owner and truck driver for Commercial Carriers for 30 years and job steward for Teamsters Union Local 667. Preceded in death by son, James W. “Jimmy” Brister Jr. Leaves wife of 57 years, Edna B Brister; daughters, Neva Brister Crow, Olive Branch; Donna Brister, Cordova; son, Doug Brister, Southaven; daughter-in-law, Cindy Brister, Southaven; sister, Sue Bull, Texas; grandchildren, Joe, Lindsay, Mike, Mark, Ashley and Samantha Brister, Kevin Crow and Mike Glenn Jr.; and great-grandchildren, Grace, Emma, Jacob and Chase Brister and Leah Langston.

COX - Troy Hampton Cox, 78, Memphis, passed away Aug. 14, 2008. Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18 and visitation was from 5-8 p.m. Aug. 17 and from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., both in the Shelton-Hunt Funeral Home Chapel, Humboldt. Burial, Rose Hill Cemetery. Survived by wife, Maxine Cox, Memphis; son, Gary W. Cox, Horn Lake; sister, Peggy Row, Jackson; and brother, Haskle Cox, Henderson.

DENNIE - Mary A. Dennie, 87, Collierville, died Aug. 10, 2008. Retired after teaching for 39 years with the Memphis City Schools, member of Bethany Christian Church, and loved flower gardening. Survived by sister, Ruth S. Tennyson, Ackerman; and brothers, John Anthony, Collierville; Herbert Anthony, Olive Branch; and Paul Anthony, Arlington. Preceded in death by brothers, Charles and Robert Anthony. The family received friends from 12 noon-2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13 with services following at 2.p.m., both at Bethany Christian Church. Interment, Magnolia Cemetery.

EDGAR - Dorothy Elizabeth Edgar, 76, Memphis, died Aug. 12, 2008. Member of Ellison Baptist Church, worked as Customer Service Clerk at the UPS Store for over 14 years and previously was the Accounts Payable Supervisor for the Holiday Inn Corporation. Preceded in death by husband of 41 years, Ted A Edgar; and son, Gary Don Edgar. Survived by son, Edward Edgar (Ginger); and Karen Edgar, both of Olive Branch; grandchildren, Nicole, Ross, Patrick, Hesston, Gary Brooke; and five great-grandchildren. Services were at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15 at Memorial Park Funeral Home in the Riverside Chapel. Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. Aug. 14. Interment, Memorial Park Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be sent to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation 120 Wall Street, 19th Floor New York, NY 10005.

HARRIS - Corbert “Jay” Harris Jr., 61, Southaven, passed away Aug. 10, 2008. Served his country in the Air Force and employed at Bally’s Casino. Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13 at Forest Hill Funeral Home South. Survived by wife of 12 years, Dianne; four daughters; two sons; his mother; one sister; several grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

HILLIARD - Curress Hilliard Sr., 60, Hernando, died Aug. 12, 2008. Visitation was from 1-6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15 at Gillespie Funeral Home. Service was at 12 noon Aug. 16 at Kileton Church of Christ. Burial, Kileton Church of Christ Cemetery, Hernando. Leaves daughters, Zandra Jones, Byhalia; Margaret H. Lee, and Erica S. Jones, both of Hernando; sons, Curress Hilliard Jr. and Christopher Hilliard, both of Hernando; sisters, Bonnie Arnold, Annie Cowans, both of Olive Branch; Emma L. Williford and Lillie M. Manning, both of Hernando; brothers, Robert E. Hilliard, Southaven; and 12 grandchildren.

JACKSON - Beverly Ann Tipler Jackson, 59, Memphis, died Aug. 6, 2008. Retired secretary for the Board of Education and member of Greater Abyssinia Church. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15 and services were at 11 a.m. Aug. 16, both at Greater Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Leaves daughter, Angelique Jackson, Memphis; mother, Naomi Tipler; father, Miller Tipler Jr., both of Memphis; sisters, Ann Woodard, Memphis; Shirley Edwards (George), Olive Branch; Martha Jean Bell and Lovell Tipler Ray, both of Memphis; brother, Keith Tipler (Temesa), Memphis; four nieces; one nephew; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends.

LAUGHTER - Clarence “Buddy,” Laughter, 70, Hernando, died Aug. 14, 2008. Retired from the U.S. Army National Guard after serving 28 years, retired nurse for the VA Medical Center, and volunteer EMT in DeSoto County for 20 years. The family received friends from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15 at Hernando Funeral Home. Service was at 2 p.m. Aug. 16 at Grays Creek Baptist Church. Leaves wife, Virginia “Jenny” Laughter; sons, Jeffery Laughter and Kenny Laughter; and grandchildren, Missy L. Rochelle, Justin W. Laughter, Marley Laughter, Chet Laughter. Preceded in death by sister, Clara Jean McElroy.

MCBRIDE - James “Jim,” McBride, 75, Southaven, died Aug. 15, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - DeSoto. Born Sept. 3, 1932, in Paris, Tenn., retired automotive mechanic, and enjoyed traveling, especially to the Smoky Mountains. Visitation was from 6:30-9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18 at Twin Oaks Funeral Home, Southaven. Graveside services were at 4 p.m. Aug. 19 at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens. Preceded in death by wife, Elizabeth McBride, daughter, Marie; and parents, Issac and Altie Mae McBride. Leaves son, James “Jimmy” McBride (Vickie), Horn Lake; daughters, Marty McBride, San Antonio, Texas; Judy Stanczak (Lee), Lakeland, Fla.; Sarah Harper, Millington; and Anita Crick (Don), Southaven; son-in-law, Floyd Masters, Arlington, Tenn.; grandchildren, Brett Dickson, Shannon Dickson, Mike Rogers (Angela), Michelle Rogers, Brandon Childers, Brittany Childers, Dustin Crick, Ashley Crick, Tony Masters, Billy Masters (Nikki), and Cody Masters; and great grandchildren, Kaylee Dickson, Brooke Dickson, Kyan Dickson, Bradlee Stanczak, Aaron Rogers, Joshua Phillips, Allison Marie Masters, and Savannah Marie Masters.

NELSON - Katie Mae Arnold Nelson, 81, Southaven, passed away Aug. 16, 2008. Member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Beta Sigma Phi, the first EEG technician in the city of Memphis and retired from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Survived by children, Raymond A. Nabors, Portageville, Mo.; Patricia R. Cavallo Taber, Southaven; and Vincent S. Cavallo, Horn Lake; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The family received friends from 5:30-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18 and services were at 11 a.m. Aug. 19, both at Brantley Funeral Home, Olive Branch. Interment, Memory Hill Gardens. Memorial gifts may be made to either the Alzheimer’s Association or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Member of Eureka Methodist Church, Batesville and employed for 30 years at Kimberly Clark in Memphis. Preceded in death by husbands, Jack Billingsley, Memphis; and John W. Reed, Batesville; and daughter Barbara Ann King. Leaves sons, Jerry Billingsley, Oklahoma City, Okla.; Hugh Billingsley, Olive Branch; Bobby and Bill Reed, both of Batesville; brother, Sam McKee, Missouri; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. TALLANT - Evelyn F. Tallant, 73, Olive Branch, passed away Aug. 15, 2008. Preceded in death by husband, Alton O. Tallant. Survived by sons, Stan Tallant and Jeff Tallant; one granddaughter; and one grandson. THOMPSON - Rick Thompson, 65, Southaven, passed away Aug. 11, 2008. Family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 13 at Forest Hill South with service at 10 a.m. Aug. 14. Survived by wife, Barbara Turner Thompson; mother, Charlotte Thompson; uncles, Bill and Waller Wright; brother, Raymond Thompson (Toni); children, Alisa Harris (Tracy) and Lane Thompson (Genevieve), Brian Turner (Ann Marie), Doug Barrett (Maria), Scott Lewis (Michelle); 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; as well as many loving relatives and friends. Attended Whitehaven High School and NWJC, served in the Air Force for 4 years, and dedicated employee of United Airlines for 20 years, FedEx, and DeSoto County school bus driver.

VAUGHN - Roy Glenn Vaughn, 55, Hernando, passed away Aug. 12, 2008. Survived by mother, Mary Vaughn; wife, Daryl Vaughn; sons, Benjamin, Daniel and Chaz; daughter, Dana; and brother, Ronnie Vaughn. The family received friends from 4-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16 at High Point Funeral Chapel, and service followed at 5 p.m. The family suggests any memorials be sent to the Hernando Band Boosters in care of Hernando High School, Hernando.

VOLGAS - Tim Volgas, 46, Olive Branch, died Aug. 9, 2008. Director of Logistics at ALSAC/St. Jude, attended Great Commission Church, enjoyed working with wood, but his greatest passion was his family. Leaves wife, Julie Volgas; step-son, Brandon, Rodgers; parents, Jim and Irene Volgas, Bartlett; brothers, Dave Volgas (Sue), Montevallo, Ala.; and Greg Volgas (Julie), Bartlett; mother in law, Kathryn Tyer, New Albany; father in law, Terry Willard, Myrtle; brother in law, Brian Willard, Myrtle; seven nephews; two nieces; and many other relatives and friends. Service was at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13 at Brantley Funeral Home, Olive Branch. The family received friends at 4 p.m. prior to the service. COMO — Services for R.C. Cunningham, 82, retired construction worker, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Brantley-Phillips Funeral Home, Hernando. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Cunningham died Aug. 18. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Cunningham; two brothers, Joseph Cunningham and Kenneth Cunningham; two sisters, Evelyn Sherron and Irene McCurdy; He leaves two daughters, Janet Ward, Holly Springs, Joyce Eads, Hernando; two sons, Robert Cunningham, Millington, Tenn., Kenneth Cunningham, Birmingham, Ala; four brothers, Red Cunningham, Linden, Tenn., Bert Cunningham, Clinton, Ky., Steve Cunningham , Obion, Tenn., Lue Cunningham, Obion; six grandchildren, John, Anna, Sarah, Casey, Billy and Morgan.

SOUTHAVEN — Services for Earline P. Moore, 77, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Brantley Funeral Home, Olive Branch. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Moore died Aug. 18 in Holly springs. She was a Baptist. She was a former employee of Wurlitzer and the IRS. She leaves her daughters, Deborah J. Tice, Holly Springs, Kathy Huey, Humphreys, Ark.; a son, Bill Moore Jr., Byhalia; grandchildren, Becky, Tiffany, Jerry, Johnny, Kevin, Tracy and Marsha; great-grandchildren Jerry, Jacob, Christopher, Kimberly, Richie, Max and Justin. Interment will be in Memorial Park Southwoods Cemetery. Any memorial may be sent to Faith Baptist Church, Oxford or A&E Hospice, Olive Branch.
