ADAMS

GREENVILLE — Graveside services for Georgia Myrtle Taylor Adams, 87, of Greenville, will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Greenfield Cemetery, Glen Allan. She died Nov. 29, 2000, of heart failure at her home. Burial will be under the direction of Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville.
Mrs. Adams was born in Aberdeen, Miss., where she received her education. She married William Adams and they made their home in the Rolling Fork area. He preceded her in death in 1978. She ten moved to Greenville.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Smith of Philadelphia, Miss., and Susan Adams of Greenville; one son, William Adams Jr. of San Diego; one sister, Grace Gardner of Jackson, Miss.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

BURELSON

CLEVELAND — Funeral services for Leola Burelson, 56, of Cleveland, are pending at Byas Funeral Home, Cleveland. She died Nov. 29, 2000, at her home.

CARSON

ROLLING FORK — Funeral services for Ella M. Carson, 73, of Rolling Fork, will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Mt. Lula MB Church, Rolling Fork. She died Nov. 28, 2000, at South Sunflower Count Hospital, Rolling Fork. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Rolling Fork, under the direction of Walker Funeral Home, Rolling Fork.
Survivors include one son, George Booker of Rolling Fork; two daughters, Shirley Martin of Chicago and Betty Ross of Rolling Fork; six brothers, Jacob Booker, Jimmie Booker and Micheal Booker, all of Waukeegan, Ill., James Shelton of Dallas, Judge Booker of Memphis and A.D. Davis of California; nine sisters, Cornelius Coble of St. Louis, Mo., Beverly Vaughn of Cocomo, Ind., Edna Booker of Kenosha, Wis., Dorothy Moore of Chicago, Jean Carter of Oakland, Calif., Vickie Booker of Egypt, Jennifer Mitchell of Atlanta, Ga., Karen Booker of Waukeegan, Ill., and Susie Moore of Indianapolis; one uncle, John H. Hobbs of Memphis; 21 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, Rolling Fork.
The Rev. J.M. Kimble will officiate.

CROWDER

ITTA BENA — Funeral services for Alberta D. Crowder, 75, of Itta Bena, will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at St. Rest Church of God In Christ, Itta Bena. She died Nov. 28, 2000, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, Greenwood. Burial will be in Pitts Cemetery, Itta Bena, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.
Survivors include nine sons, Marvin Crowder, Melvin Crowder and Coleman Crowder, all of Itta Bena, Eddie Crowder, James Crowder Jr., Madison Crowder, Arthur Crowder and Roosevelt Crowder, all of Illinois, and Willie Crowder of Indiana; seven daughters. Dorothy Crowder, Willie Goss and Hattie Abraham, all of Illinois, Margaret Crowder of Texas, Lou Byers of Minnesota, and Lashell Sandifer and Roberta Lee, both of Greenwood; one brother, Earl Rias of Lexington, Miss.; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Family hour will be Saturday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Byas Funeral Home, Indianola. The body will lie in state at the church Sunday from noon to 1 p.m.
Elder Samuel Sago will officiate.

GARRETT

COLUMBUS — Funeral services for Mary “Sissy” Vincent Garrett, 87, of Columbus, will be today at 9:30 a.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church, Columbus. She died Nov. 29, 2000, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Columbus. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery, Columbus, under the direction of Floyd Funeral Home, Columbus.
Mrs. Garrett was a resident of Fairfax County, Va., for 57 years. She retired in 1964, after 20 years as administrative assistant to the special assistant to the Secretary of Defense. An avid bridge player, she traveled around the country playing in bridge tournaments. She became a Life Master in Bridge in 1984. She also grew many varieties of roses and won numerous first place ribbons in rose shows. She was a parishioner of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Arlington, Va., and was also very active in the Williamsburg Women’s Club of Arlington.
A resident of Columbus since January 1999, Mrs. Garrett was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers.
Survivors include her husband, C. Donald Garrett of Columbus; two sisters, Kathleen Rogers of Greenville and Norma Switzer of Kennett, Mo.; and many nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be today from 9 to 9:30 a.m. in the atrium in the new church building.
Father Gerry Hurley will officiate.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38101.

HOSKINS

HOLLANDALE — Funeral services for Ella Mae Jones Hoskins, 67, of Hollandale, will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Green MB Church, Hollandale. She died Nov. 26, 2000, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery, Hollandale, under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Hollandale.
Mrs. Hoskins was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Woodard and Christine Williams; two brother, Eddie Williams and Roosevelt Williams; one grandson, Kelvin Bethanley; and one great-grandson, Billy Johnson.
Survivors include her husband, Ellex Hoskins of Chicago; one son, Waymon (Dorothy) Williams of Hollandale; five daughters, Dianne (Herman) Jamison, Dorothy (Charlie) McBride, Mildred (Tyrone) Buchanan and Carolyn (Percy) Pennington, all of Hollandale, and Gloria (Ricky) Atkins of Clewiston, Fla.; a devoted and loving mother, Charlean Jones of Hollandale; five sisters, Leola Williams of Hollandale, Gladys Williams and Lorie (Kenneth) Wells, both of Chicago, Earnestine (M.G.) Boones of El Dorado, Ark., and Geneva Williams of Nashville, Tenn.; two brothers, Walter B. Williams of Chicago and Johnny Williams of Las Vegas, Nev.; 34 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; a special friend of the family, George Lewis of Hollandale; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will always cherish and love the memory of her.
Visitation will be Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Redmon Funeral Home, Hollandale.
The Rev. R.C. Addison will officiate.

MARTIN

GREENWOOD — Funeral arrangements for Arlee Martin Sr., 94, of Greenwood and formerly of Minter City, are pending at Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville. He died Nov. 30, 2000, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, Greenwood.

RISER

GREENVILLE — Memorial services for Darold Herbert Riser, 65, of Greenville, will be today at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Greenville. He died Nov. 28, 2000, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville, of heart failure. Local arrangements are under the direction of Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville.
Mr. Riser was born in Lorain, Ohio, and moved to San Diego, Calif., at an early age. He graduated from San Diego High School and then attended Pasadena City College in Pasadena, Calif. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After moving to Greenville, he was employed as a salesman with Nelms & Blum, Hafter’s and S. Goodman. He was involved in scouting from 1978 to present, serving as scoutmaster of Troop 50 from 1981 to 1994. Thirty-four scouts received the rank of Eagle including his son Paul, under his leadership. On March 21, 1989, he received the Silver Beaver, the highest award for adult scout; received vigil honor, order of the Arrow on Oct. 29, 1993; received Scoutmaster award of merit and district award of merit. He went to the Philmont Scout Camp in Cimmoron, N.M., twice, and attended the National Jamboree in Washington, D.C., in 1997. He was recognized at Washington District Awards Banquet and 90th Anniversary of Boy Scouts of America on Feb. 24, 2000. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he was an active member of the Big Brothers Sunday school class, and served as president and former president of the Methodist Men’s Association.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine McIntosh Riser of Greenville; two sons, Paul Albert Riser and Michael Landon Riser, both of Greenville; mother, Mae Robinson Wiley of Pinetop, Ariz.; and three sisters, Kay (Allen) Phillips and Sandy Wine, both of San Diego, and Mary Louise Stiles of Pinetop, Ariz.
The family will receive friends today from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts of America or First United Methodist Church.

STURDIVANT

ANGUILLA — Funeral services for Ella Sturdivant, 56, of Anguilla, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Christian Light MB Church, Anguilla. She died Nov. 28, 2000, at University Medical Center, Jackson. Burial will be in Cynthia Diana Cemetery, Anguilla, under the direction of Walker Funeral Home, Rolling Fork.
Survivors include one son, Frank Sturdivant of Chicago; two brothers, Jessie Sturdivant of Los Angeles and James Sturdivant of Anguilla; five sisters, Jimmy Dorsey of Oakland, Calif., Lillie Bennett of Greenville, Ruth Killinworth of Chicago, and Mattie Sturdivant and Rebecca S. Price, both of Anguilla; and three grandchildren.
The Rev. Milton Evans will officiate.

THOMAS

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Josephine Cornelious Thomas, 93, of Greenville, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Rose Hill North MB Church, Greenville. She died Nov. 26, 2000, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Greenville, under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville.
Survivors include one niece, Nina Mae Clardy of Pine Bluff, Ark.; one goddaughter, Dorothy Mae Green of Greenville; several children she cared for over the years; devoted friends, Annie Edmond and Billie and Malcolm Wynn, all of Greenville; also a host of friends at Greenville Convalescent Home.
Visitation will be today from 1 to 5 p.m. at Redmon Funeral Home chapel, Greenville. The remains will lie in state at the church Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.
The Rev. V.J. Moore will officiate.

THOMPSON

DREW — Funeral services for L.C. Thompson, 53, of Drew, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Holmes Chapel, Highway 49, Drew. He died Nov. 27, 2000,a t North Sunflower County Hospital, Ruleville. Burial will be in Nebo Cemetery, Drew, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Ruleville.
Survivors include his father, Roger Lee Thompson of North Carolina; one son, Tyrone Thompson of Drew; five brothers, Eddie Lee Thompson of Greenville, Roosevelt Thompson of Cleveland, Clevand Thompson of Tupelo, Johnnie Thompson of Drew and Jimmy Lee Thompson of St. Louis, Mo.; five sisters, Thesia Tucker of Cleveland, Ohio, Doretha Logan of Alligator, Louise Mays and Beatrice O’Neal, both of Greenville, and Mablean Webb of Drew; and one grandchild.
Visitation will be today from 2 to 6 p.m. at Byas Funeral Home, Ruleville.
The Rev. N.T. Love will officiate.
