WALKER

INDIANOLA — Funeral services for Jessie Roy Walker Jr., 50, of Indianola will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Greater New Jerusalem Church of God In Christ, Indianola, He died Nov. 24, 2000, at his home. Burial will be in Union Grove Church Cemetery, Inverness, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.
Survivors include his wife, Oria Clark-Walker of Indianola; three sons, Gavin Walker of Indianola, and Roy Clark and Renard Clark, both of Indianapolis; two daughters, Ciarnia Walker of Indianola and Sondi Thomas of Jackson, Miss.; five brothers, Ledell Walker and James Walker, both of Elkhart, Ind., and Larry Walker, Marvin Walker and Elder David Walker, all of Indianola; six sisters, Eva Holmes of Inverness, Lula Jones, Annie Walker, Josie Walker and Mable Walker, all of Indianola, and Willie Ann Walker of Elkhart, Ind.; and 10 grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 2 to 6 p.m. at Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.
Elder David Walker will officiate.

ANDERSON

GREENVILLE — Funeral arrangements for Sallie Anderson, 77, of Maywood, Ill., and formerly of Greenville are pending at Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville. She died Jan. 15, 2001, at Loyola Hospital in Maywood, Ill.

CARROLLO

LELAND — Memorial services for Paul Vincent Carollo, 58, of Houston, Texas, and formerly of Leland, a retired senior power consultant for Houston Light & Power Co., will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, Leland. He died Jan. 6, 2001, following an extended illness. Local arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland.
Mr. Carollo was born in Greenville, the ninth of 14 children. He graduated from Leland High School in 1960, and was president of the FFA. He entered Mississippi Delta Junior College and then enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served as a postal clerk while in France. Following an honorable discharge, he graduated from Mississippi State with a degree in marketing. While at State, he served as president of the Mississippi’s Newman Club, a Catholic organization for college students. He remained an avid Bulldog fan throughout his life.
He moved to Houston where he began his professional career and resided until his death. He was a Rotarian and became increasingly active in many phases of volunteer work. Recently, he was presented the Volunteer of the Year Award for his work with The Guild Shop, a Houston organization that assists with the financial needs of nursing home care. He proudly assisted many students with college scholarships during the past 10 years and established a scholarship foundation for his heirs to encourage educational achievement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Joseph and Gertrude Lucile Thornton Carollo of Leland, and one brother, John Oliver Carollo, also of Leland.
Paul will lovingly be remembered by his brothers, Charles “Junior” Carollo of Jackson, Otis Carollo of Baton Rouge, William “Bill” Carollo of Leland, Alphonse Carollo of Tuttle, Okla., Sam A. Carollo of Grenada, James Q. Carollo of Greenville and Mike Carollo of Madison; and his sisters, Roselyn St. Clair of Denham Springs, La., Camille Doiron of Vicksburg, Sarah Marie Stanton of Greenville, Linda C. Winter of Leland and Barbara Ivy of Brandon.
Sharing their loss are numerous nieces, nephews and many other relatives including his special cousins, Emanuel “Manny” and Geri Murgola of Bellaire, Texas.
Family and friends will attend a memorial service in Houston on Jan. 27, 2001.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to his favorite charities: The Guild Shop, 2009 Dunlavy, Houston, Texas 77006; Hospice at the Medical Center, 1905 Holcombe, Houston, Texas 77030; M.D. Anderson Memorial Fund, 1515 Holcombe, Houston, Texas 77030; St. James Ladies Auxiliary, c/o Mrs. Clint Johnson, 606 South Deer Creek Drive West, Leland, Miss. 38756; or a charity of your choice.
Father Sean Atkinson will officiate.

ELLIOTT

COLT, Ark. — Funeral services for Valerie Hope Davenport Elliott, 26, her two daughters, Christeen Ann Elliott, 7, and Jessica Jean Elliott, 1, and her son, Jeffery Thomas Elliott II, 5, all of Colt, will be today at 2 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Home chapel, Forrest City. They died Jan. 13, 2001, in a fire at their residence. Burial will be in Hughes Cemetery, Forrest City.
Survivors include her husband and the children’s father, Jeffery Thomas Elliott of Colt, Ark.; her parents, Jesse and Mary Davenport of Forrest City, Ark.; six brothers, Jerry Davenport of Greenville, Miss., and Joel Davenport, William Davenport, Paul Davenport, Kendall Davenport and Keith Davenport, all of Forrest City; two sisters, Karen Carr of Belton, Texas, and Trena Flowers of Norfork, Ark.; and her grandmother, Mrs. Velva Melton of Forrest City, Ark.
The children are also survived by their grandmother, Margaret Busby of Forrest City, Ark.

GRIFFIN

SHAW — Funeral arrangements for Walter Griffin Sr., 95, of Shaw are pending at Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville. He died Jan. 15, 2001, at his home.

HARTLEY

LAKE VILLAGE, Ark. — Private family services for Gordon G. “Fritz” Hartley, 76, of Lake Village and formerly of Leland, Miss., will be at a later date. He died Jan. 15, 2001, at Chicot Memorial Hospital, Lake Village. Local arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland.
Mr. Hartley was born in Skeen, Miss., the son of the late Edgar W. and Etna Turner Hartley. He married the former Bessie House in 1942. She preceded him in death in 1997. He was a combat veteran of World War II, serving under General George Patton. He received the purple heart for wounds received in France. After his discharge in 1946, he made his home in Leland, where for 35 years, he was a rural mail carrier. He coached Little League baseball and was a Scout Master for several years. He was active in conservation work and was presented with the State Conservationist of the Year Award in 1968 by Governor John Bell Williams. He wrote The Delta Outdoors column for the Delta Democrat Times for many years. He served as deacon in the Leland Presbyterian Church. He had made his home in Lake Village for the past four years.
He is survived by one son, Glynn Hartley of Lake Village, Ark.; one granddaughter, Stacy Hood; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.

HOLLIMAN

GREENVILLE — Funeral arrangements for Willie C. Holliman, 48, of Greenville are pending at Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville. He died Jan. 15, 2001, at The King’s Daughters Hospital, Greenville.

TAYLOR

LELAND — Memorial services for Earl “Rooster” Taylor, 61, of Leland and Chicago will be Friday at 6:30 p.m. at New Zion MB Church, Leland. He died Dec. 7, 2001, at Thorex Medical Center, Chicago. Arrangements were under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Chicago.
The Rev. Earl Reed will officiate.

Biddle

GREENVILLE — Graveside service arrangements for Bryant Kirk Biddle, 81, of Greenville, an Air Force retiree, are pending at Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville. He died Jan. 26, 2002, at his home.

DeLap

CLEVELAND — Graveside services for Marsha L. DeLap, 49, of Cleveland will be today at 3 p.m. in New Cleveland Cemetery, Cleveland. She died Jan. 25, 2002, at Bolivar Medical Center, Cleveland. Burial will be under the direction of Ray Funeral Home, Cleveland.

Miss DeLap was born Jan. 29, 1952, to Irby B. and Betty DeLap. She graduated from Delta State University and worked in the Social Security office for nine years. She had been a partner and manager of the Linen Closet in Cleveland since 1984. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Irby B. DeLap.

Survivors include her mother, Betty Aldridge DeLap of Cleveland; a brother, Doug DeLap and his wife, Betty, of Greenville; one niece, Lauren DeLap of Greenville; and one nephew, Steve DeLap of Greenville.

Hobby

PHILADELPHIA — Funeral services for Alda G. Hobby, 100, of Philadelphia, a homemaker, were Saturday at 1 p.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Home chapel, Philadelphia. She died Jan. 23, 2002, at Choctaw Residential Center, Neshoba County. Burial was in New Black Jack Cemetery, Philadelphia.

She was born and raised in the Zephyr Hill community of Neshoba County, where she made her home all her life. She was a member of the New Black Jack Baptist Church in Philadelphia. She was also a member of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 91 in Philadelphia, where she served as worthy matron. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Hobby, and two daughters, Marcella Griffin and Marjorie Donald.

Survivors include one son, Billy Hobby and wife Jeanette of Brandon; one daughter, Georgia Lou Lee of Baynton Beach, Fla.; one son-in-law, Walter Griffin of Atlanta, Ga.; three granddaughters, Betty Stanley, Linda Davis and Sandra Ballentine; and three grandsons, James Donald, Scott Griffin and Jeff Hobby.

The Rev. Ira Curtis Griffin officiated.

Kimble

INDIANOLA — Funeral arrangements for the Rev. J.M. Kimble, 84, of Indianola are pending at Byas Funeral Home, Indianola. He died Jan. 26, 2002, at South Sunflower County Hospital, Indianola.

Montesi

SHAW — Funeral services for Marlou J. Montesi, 83, of Shaw will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Shaw. He died Jan. 26, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Shaw Cemetery under the direction of Ray Funeral Home, Cleveland.

Mr. Montesi was born on Jan. 24, 1919, in Sunflower to Alberigo and Maria Paioni Montesi. He served his country in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of technical sergeant. He married Rosa Bologna on Nov. 23, 1946, in San Leandro, Calif. He was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, the VFW, the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and the Columbus Club.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Matt Short, in September 1996.

Survivors include his wife, Rosa Montesi of Shaw; two daughters, Marilou (Louis) Leyens of Norwalk, Conn., and Sammye Ann (Dennis) Short of Shaw; two grandchildren, Ryan (Heather) Short and Dan Short; and one great-granddaughter, Emma Grace Short.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. today at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, followed by the rosary at 7 p.m.

Shaw

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Dorothy Evans Shaw, 78, of Greenville, a retired state employee, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville. She died Jan. 26, 2002, at University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Monday in North Union Cemetery, Bellefontaine.

Mrs. Shaw was a native of Webster County, where she graduated from the Eupora High School. She married William Floyd Shaw in 1946. In 1951, they made their home in Greenville, where she was a bookkeeper and office manager with the Mississippi Department of Human Services for 35 years. She retired in October 2000. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Anita Shaw Luke of Greenville; and two granddaughters, Jamie Elizabeth Luke and Laurie Lea Luke, both of Greenville.

The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. at Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
