Smith

INDIANOLA -- Funeral services for James M. Smith Jr., 62, of Indianola and formerly of Greenville, a truck driver, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home chapel, Greenville. He died of cancer Jan. 27, 2003, at his home. Burial will be in Leland-Stoneville Cemetery, Stoneville.

Mr. Smith was born July 22, 1940, at Skene, Miss., to James and Effie Smith. He moved to Greenville at an early age with his family. He attended Greenville public schools. He was a lifelong resident of Greenville until moving to Indianola in 1997. He and his wife Shirley were the former owners of the Prime Steer Steak House in Greenville. He was employed with America's Catch as a truck driver until ill health forced him to retire in 2002. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mary Francis Phifer and Linda Horton; and two brothers, Frank Smith and Gene Smith.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Shirley Smith of Indianola; two brothers, Jerry (Kay) Smith of Hollandale and Charlie Smith of Greenville; and two grandchildren, Michael Smith and Cameron Smith.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Greenville.

The Rev. David Vaughn will officiate.

Brown

CHICAGO -- Funeral services for Roger Lee Brown, 59, of Chicago and formerly of Greenville, Miss., were March 8 at Leak and Sons Funeral Home Chapels, Chicago. He died March 2, 2003, at Little Company of Mary Hospital, Chicago. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery and Mausoleum, Evergreen Park.

Roger Lee Brown was the eldest born Aug. 11, 1943, to the late Robert and Ora Brown in Sunflower, Miss. Family members and friends affectionately knew him as "Bob." He believed in God and confessed Christ at an early age.

He was educated at Lucy Webb Elementary and Coleman High School in Greenville. He later received certificates of achievements from various trade schools and Olive-Harvey College in Chicago.

Bob was an independent contractor specializing in carpentry, painting and electrical repairs. He cultivated a natural artistic ability and sold pieces of his artwork.

Bob was known for his love of the great outdoors and hunting game. He was a devout fisherman and enjoyed traveling.

On Sunday, March 2, 2003, his heavenly Father called Roger "Bob" Brown home. His sister, Josephine Brown McBeth, preceded him in death.

He leaves to mourn and cherish his memories a loving, devoted daughter, Nicole; a daughter, Michelle; a son, Jeffrey (Priscilla); stepchildren, Betsy, Ruby, Patricia, Landers and Conrad; one beloved sister, Joyce Brown of Greenville; one beloved brother, Clifton (Evelyn) Brown of Chicago; three aunts, Millie Flemings of Greenville, Arbella Walls of Chicago and Mary Hardy of St. Louis, Mo.; three uncles, Charlie Harris of Greenville, Tim Brown of St. Louis, Mo., and John Perry Brown of Toledo, Ohio; a very devoted friend, Dorothy Kelly; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Cooper

LELAND -- Funeral arrangements for Edward Cooper, 87, of Leland are pending at Watson-Edwards & Evans Funeral Home, Greenville. He died March 14, 2003, at his home.

Hicks

BENTON -- Funeral services for Brenda W. Hicks, 39, of Benton and formerly of Greenville were Sunday at 2 p.m. at Stricklin-King Funeral Home chapel, Yazoo City. She died of cancer March 14, 2003, at Rankin General Hospital, Brandon. Burial was in Scotland Baptist Cemetery, Yazoo County.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ellis Worbington.

Survivors include her spouse, Carl J. Hicks Jr. of Benton; three daughters, Stacey Hicks, Maggie Hicks and Carly Hicks, all of Benton; her mother and stepfather, Claudie and Ferris Wright of Yazoo City; two brothers, Dennis Worbington and Ron "Butch" Worbington, both of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; one sister and brother-in-law, Amanda and Bobby Barton of Yazoo City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society; Joe Lee Griffin Hope Lodge, 1104 Ireland Way, Birmingham, Ala. 35205; or Angel Flight Southwest, Regional Operations Center, 8742 Airport Blvd., Leesburg, Ga. 34788.

The Rev. Ken Lynch officiated.

Kisner

BRUCE -- Funeral services for John William "Bill" Kisner, 68, of Bruce and formerly of Greenville were March 2 at 2 p.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home chapel, Bruce. He died Feb. 28, 2003, at his daughter's home in Leland. Burial was in Bruce Cemetery.

Mr. Kisner was born Aug. 20, 1934, the son of Jan Kisner and Lois Williams Kisner, in Water Valley, Miss. He retired as laboratory technician for Greenville Mill in 1987. He was a longtime member and deacon of Greenfield Baptist Church, Greenville, and recently moved his membership to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Bruce.

Survivors include four daughters, Cynthia Ann Floyd and husband, Mike, of Leland, Deborah Lynn Davis and husband, Darry, of Shaw, Rebecca Carol Moak and husband, Dwayne, of Flora, and Cheryl Gay Cornelius of Greenville; one son, John Hollis Kisner and wife, Christy, of Tupelo; 11 grandchildren, Trudy Ann Whitfield, Nicholas Bradford Simmons, William Tyler Floyd, Justin Burt Davis, Lauren Michelle Davis, Kelly Peyton Davis, William Hoyt Moak, Alison Rebecca Moak, C.L. Cornelius Jr., Joshua Seth Cornelius and Alyssa Marie Kisner; one great-grandchild, Kaitlyn Breanna Whitfield; and one brother, James Morgan Kisner and wife, Gloria, of Gallatin, Tenn.

The Rev. L.H. McCullough and the Rev. Rick Griffin officiated.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Kisner, Gary Paul Adams, Tommy Cain, Randy Cain, Billy Gene Goodwin, Lanny Hillhouse, Tony Cain, Johnny Norwood, Junior Hillhouse, Terry Dean Cain and Maurice Adams.

Maggiefield

GREENVILLE -- Funeral services for Alice Maggiefield, 94, of Greenville will be today at 1 p.m. at Sisson Chapel of Byas Funeral Home, Greenville. She died March 12, 2003, at her home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Greenville.

Survivors include one son, Lawrence Maggiefield of Chicago; four daughters, Sadie Ridgell and Charlotte (Lesley Cannon) Maggiefield, both of Greenville, Lillie Harris of Isola and Mary Fleming of Chicago; two sisters, Alberta Morris and Viola Sosa, both of Greenville; 21 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.

Elder Sam Turner will officiate.

Rucker

TCHULA -- Funeral services for Willie Lee Rucker, of Tchula, a public worker, will be today at 1 p.m. at Mt. Oliver MB Church, Isola. He died of heart failure March 13, 2003, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, Greenwood. Burial will be in Mt. Oliver Cemetery, Isola, under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Belzoni.

Survivors include three sons, Sylvester Rucker of Milwaukee, John Edward Rucker of Marks and Christopher Rucker of Greenville; seven daughters, Vera Hall of Chicago, Yvonne Rucker, Shirley Green, Shirley Toy, Brenda Hunter and Josie Hall, all of Belzoni, and Letha Clay of Detroit; three brothers, A.D. Pettigrew of Greenville, and Willie Lee Johnson and Kenny Johnson, both of Tchula; and a very special friend, Annie B. Johnson of Tchula.

Visitation will be today from noon to 1 p.m. at Mt. Oliver MB Church, Isola.

Taylor

SHELBY -- Funeral services for Sidney Taylor, 57, of Shelby will be today at 2 p.m. at Byas Funeral Home chapel, Shelby. He died March 12, 2003, at Bolivar Medical Center, Cleveland. Burial will be in Shelby Cemetery.

Survivors include two sisters, Annie L. Taylor of Friars Point and Alice Hemway of Shelby; and four brothers, Sammie Taylor of Clarksdale, Willie Taylor of Rome, Frank Taylor of Friars Point and Leffy Coleman of Detroit.

Pastor Emma Williams will officiate.

Triplett

GREENVILLE -- Funeral arrangements for Milton Triplett, 73, of Greenville are pending at Dillon Funeral Home, Leland. He died March 11, 2003, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville.

Bell

BELZONI -- Funeral services for Malcolm D. Bell, 71, a retired state Highway Department employee of Belzoni will be at 2 p.m. today at Mortimer Funeral Home Chapel, Greenville. He died May 31, 2003, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Roundaway Cemtery, Sunflower County.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys B. Bell of Belzoni, Miss.; two daughters, Melody Cantrell and Barbara Bell, both of Belzoni, Miss.; a son, Malcom Bell Jr. of Moorhead, Miss.; a sister, Anne Rathie of Panama City, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The Rev. Donnie Martin will officiate.

Clark

GREENVILLE -- Funeral arrangements for Pearlie Mae Clark, 65, of Greenville are pending at Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville. She died June 1, 2003, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville.

Jones

LELAND -- Funeral arrangements for Michael Wayne Jones, age unavailable, of Leland are pending at Boone Funeral Home, Leland. He died May 31, 2003, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson.

Moore

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Funeral services for Robert "Stanley" Moore, 36, of Cookeville, Tenn., will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home, Cookeville. He died May 30, 2003, at his home. Burial will be at Phillips Cemetery.

Stanley died unexpectedly at his home on Friday, May 30, 2003.

Son of the late Alan B. Moore and Lula Frances Moore, he was born on Aug. 22, 1966, in Greenville, Miss. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert G. and Hattie B. Leach, and grandfather H. Stanley Moore.

He was a Christian and attended services at Stevens Street Baptist Church.

His family includes his brother, Alan Moore of Mississippi; his sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Harold Sowell; nieces Michelle and Nicole, and nephew Kevin, of Cookeville; a grandmother, Flora Moore Whittier of W. Sutton, Mass.; an uncle, Jim Moore of N. Oxford, Mass.; and other aunts, uncles and cousins; and his friend, Nick Lovallo and his family of Cookeville.

Bro. Tim Frank will officiate.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 1 p.m. until time of services.

Shelton

MADISON -- Graveside services for Anne West Shelton, 78, a homemaker of Madison will be at 11 a.m. today at Greenville Cemetery, Greenville. She died May 30, 2003, at her home at St. Catherine's Village, Madison. Arrangements are under the direction of Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home, Jackson.

Mrs. Shelton was a native of Sardis, Miss., and was a long-time resident of Jackson. She was a graduate of Sardis High School and Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, Miss.

Survivors include her husband, Walter Lee Shelton Jr. of Madison; sons, Royal Branton Jr. of Ocean Springs, Miss., Nolan Branton of Greenville and Walter Shelton III of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughter, Betty Shelton Falkner of Brentwood, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and brother, John J. West of Sardis, Miss.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1390 N. State St., Jackson, MS 39202.
