Garrett

DESERT HOT SPRINGS, Calif. -- Funeral services for David Edward Garrett, 67, of Desert Hot Springs will be today at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, La Quinta. He died Dec. 14, 2002, in Desert Hot Springs. Arrangements are under the direction of FitzHenry Funeral Home, Indio.

David was born March 1, 1935, in Greenville, Miss., to Henry Author and Eulalia Vincent Garrett. He was baptized at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greenville when he was three weeks old.

He attended Sacred Heart elementary and high school. He was an altar server, a member of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality, and sang in the choir and played in the band and on the varsity basketball team. He graduated with honors in 1953.

He enrolled in Tougaloo College in 1953. While there, he became a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He graduated in 1957, and entered the United States Army. He received an honorable discharge in 1960.

He was married in 1958. His first of two sons, David Jr., was born in 1960. Michael, the second son, was born a year later, in 1961.

After leaving the Army, he worked as a chemical researcher at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago until he received an offer he couldn't refuse from the Standard Oil Co. He worked for Standard Oil and NALCO, one of their subsidiary companies, for 31 years before retiring.

He was a member of the Mission Lakes Country Club in Desert Hot Springs, a member of the Orchard Hills Country Club of Washougal, Wash., a parish member at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in La Quinta and a past Rotary Club member in Walnut Creek, Calif.

His parents, one brother, two sisters who died as infants and two adult sisters preceded him in death.

He leaves to mourn him, his wife, Joyce, his constant companion who was with him when the angels came. Other survivors include one daughter, Kerri Solberg of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; three sons, David Garrett Jr. of San Clementh, Calif., Michael Garrett of Laguna Niguel, Calif., and Robert Solberg of Alta Loma, Calif.; one sister, Regina Gray of San Antonio, Texas; one brother, Marion Garrett of San Bernardino, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, Attn.: Research Department, 9041 Magnolia Ave., No. 308, Riverside, CA 92503.

Greer

HOLLANDALE -- Funeral services for Jimmie Lou Grissett Greer, 88, of Hollandale, a homemaker, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville. She died of heart failure Dec. 17, 2002, at her home. Burial will be in Leland-Stoneville Cemetery, Stoneville.

She was born near Eupora, Miss., and moved at an early age to Cleveland, where she received her education. In 1934, she married Cecil Greer, and they made their home in Hollandale in 1943. She had been an active member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness since 1936. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her husband, Cecil Greer of Hollandale; three daughters, Ernestine Fioranelli of Greenville, Cecelia Gahan of Leighton, Ala., and Dianne Rexrode of Hollandale; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hollandale Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness or the Delta Regional Medical Center Hospice.

Hudson

GREENVILLE -- Funeral services for Genary Hudson, 63, of Greenville will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Horeb MB Church, Greenville. She died Dec. 16, 2002, at River Oaks Hospital, Flowood. Burial will be in Delta Memorial Gardens, Greenville, under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Inez and Robert Hudson Sr.; three brothers, Robert Hudson Jr., Auther Hudson and Roy Hudson; and one sister, Hertice Winder.

Survivors include four sons, Reginald (Patsy) Hudson of Fayetteville, N.C., John (Lisa) Hudson of Memphis, and Lenard Douglas (Deborah) Hudson and Michael (April) Hudson, both of Greenville; one daughter, Tracy Hudson Bradford of Memphis; one son-in-law, Quinton Bradford of Las Vegas; one sister, Dorothy Hudson Brown of Leland; one aunt, Hazel Gayles of Los Angeles; and two sisters-in-law, Margaret Hudson of Chicago and Deloris Hudson of Matteson, Ill.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Redmon Funeral Home chapel, Greenville. The remains will lie in state at the church Saturday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Pastor Albert Calvin Jr. will officiate.

Miller

LELAND -- Funeral services for Ruby Mae Miller, 76, of Leland, a homemaker, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Mortimer Funeral Home chapel, Indianola. She died Dec. 17, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Indianola City Cemetery.

Ms. Miller was the daughter of the late George Miller and Nettie Mae Raymond Whorten. She was born in Tunica, Miss., and lived in Leland most of her life.

Survivors include one daughter, Mae Raymond of Leland; one son, Billy Miller of Greenville; two sisters, Rosa Lee Raymond of Sunflower and Diane Smith of Lambert; two brothers, James Raymond of Leland and Burford Raymond of Sunflower; one special niece, Hesterine Whitaker of Indianola; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mortimer Funeral Home, Indianola.

Moore

INDIANOLA -- Graveside services for Sennie Lee Moore, 84, of Indianola, a homemaker, will be today at 2 p.m. in Methenie Cemetery near Belzoni. She died Dec. 17, 2002, at South Sunflower County Hospital, Indianola. Burial will be under the direction of Card Funeral Home, Indianola.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Henson Moore.

She is survived by one son, Ronnie Lee Moore of Carthage; and one grandchild.

Visitation will be today at noon at Card Funeral Home, Indianola.

Thrash

GREENVILLE -- Funeral services for the Rev. Oscar "O.T" Thrash Sr., 88, of Greenville will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at J.L. Featherston Progressive Baptist State Convention Center, 238 Thomas St., Greenville. He died Dec. 11, 2002, at his home. Burial will be in Delta Memorial Gardens, Greenville, under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville.

He was vice-moderator of Bolivar County Association and a chartered member of the Progressive Baptist Association and State Convention for 47 years. He was employed at England Motor Co. for 38 years.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Beatrice Thrash of Greenville; two sons, Oscar Thrash Jr. of Mansville, Ohio, and Andrew Thrash (Willia Bea) of Memphis; 24 grandchildren, including a special granddaughter, Vondra Litt; 18 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Fannie (Robert) Luney of Irvington, Ky., Annie Thrash of Los Angeles and Leola Lanehart of Pontiac, Mich.; a special cousin, Remelda Lewis of Greenville; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives; his church families at St. Peter Church of Merigold, Mt. Galilee Church of Greenville and Wright's Chapel of Benoit; and a host of friends.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 5 p.m., with family hour from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Redmon Funeral Home chapel, Greenville.

Pastor Henderson Fields will officiate.

Tolton

ROLLING FORK -- Funeral services for Dorothy Tolton, 73, of Rolling Fork will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Chapel of the Cross MB Church, Nitta Yuma. She died Dec. 14, 2002, at Sharkey Issaquena Hospital, Rolling Fork. Burial will be in Nitta Yuma Cemetery under the direction of Watson-Edwards & Evans Funeral Home, Greenville.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Redmon Funeral Home chapel, Hollandale.

The Rev. Johnny Mackin will officiate.

Williams

GREENVILLE -- Funeral services for Gregory Lynn Williams, 42, of Greenville will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Seven Star MB Church, Scott. He died Dec. 15, 2002, at South Fulton Medical Center, Atlanta, Ga. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Greenville, under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville.

Survivors include his mother, Viola Powell of Chicago; his father, Cleve Williams of Chicago; two sisters; four brothers; a grandmother, Mae Esther Williams of Scott; a special aunt, Ann Williams of Decatur, Ga.; his best friend, Tim McGhee of Atlanta, Ga.; a special cousin, George (Blanche) Howard of Scott; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Redmon Funeral Home chapel, Greenville. The remains will lie in state at the church Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.

The Rev. Roosevelt Smith will officiate.

Bingham

GREENVILLE — Graveside services for Rose Marie Bingham, 66, of McComb and formerly of Greenville, a retired office manager, will be today at 11 a.m. in Greenfield Cemetery, Glen Allan. She died of heart failure April 6, 2003, at Grenada Lake Medical Center, Grenada. Burial will be under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Greenville.

Mrs. Bingham was born March 26, 1937, in Bolivar County, to Dema and Della Bishop. She moved at an early age with her parents to Washington County, where she spent most of her life. She was an office manager of Greenville Gravel Co. for many years. She was preceded in death by her father, Dema Bishop, and her husband, Collin Bingham Jr. She had been a resident of McComb since 1999. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include her mother, Della Bishop Cates of Yukon, Okla.; four sons, Buddy (Genia) Bingham of Greenville, Butch (Cindy) Bingham of Clarksdale, the Rev. Robert (Sharon) Bingham of McComb and Buster (Vicki) Bingham of Cleveland; two sisters, Barbara Hudson of Yukon, Okla., and Elnora McHann of Cave City, Ark.; three brothers, Billy Joe Bishop of Eudora, Ark., Rudolph Bishop of Vicksburg and Douglas Bishop of Grenada; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Robert Bingham will officiate.

McKinney

CLEVELAND — Funeral arrangements for James McKinney, 55, of Detroit and formerly of Cleveland, are pending at Byas Funeral Home, Cleveland. He died Feb. 5, 2003, in Detroit.
